I just bought this machine yesterday from the thrift store!! Y’all, I’m so excited about this! It was only $8.00! There’s too many chemicals and preservatives in store bought bread so this is my solution 😁
I always dump in fhe water, then dry ingredients (sans yeast) and make a well in the center. Then I add yeast in the well. Also, DO NOT open the door during proofing. You will let the heat out and interrupt the rise.
My mother-in-law bought this almost 30 years ago… it’s been through four different moves (including a trip down from Alaska!)… and here I am using it today. It makes awesome bread still… I don’t think I’ve ever used bread flour in it. What I do is add the yeast, sugar, and warm water first, let it sit about 10 minutes and proof, and then add everything else. Comes out perfect :)
Believe or not, I bought mine 20 years ago in a thrift store.. it still works great.. I think I paid 5 bucks for it. Westbend made products that lasted ! I still look up recipes online for it it bakes a perfect loaf, and I am using it right now . It is great when during this Covid 19 crisis I can have fresh bread .. I have to bake 2 loaves today, one for me and one for Mom.
@@shanar7404 I used all purpose.. the recipe I used was for a 2 lb loaf add ingredients in this order to bread machine....1 and 1/2 cups water, 4 teaspoons softened butter,2 tsp sugar,2 tsp salt 4 tsp milk powdered I used buttermilk..4 cups all purpose flour, then made a dent top of flour add 2 tsp dry yeast or one packet..I set the machine to basic and medium on color..if you want 1/4 to 1/2 cup honey to water for honey bread..
@@scarletcomptonbellew8470 o guess I didn't think about this until just now, my thing says that it is 1.5 pounds. Your recipe is for 2. Does this really matter??
I have been making bread for over 20 years and here is a tip. Run hot water into the bread pan (and let it drain out) before you add the ingredients. A hot pan will produce a nicer loaf.
Thanks for posting. I bought a bread maker from the thrift store without instructions. Awesome that u can set it like a coffee machine for fresh bread in the morning.
I don’t have packaged yeast so how much do I measure out? Could I use regular milk? This seams like the recipe me and my grandmother would use when I was a kid. Just found the west bend machine we’d use and I wanted to make some bread like old times but couldn’t find our recipe.
My husband brought this to me from garage sale about a month ago!! Been baking bread my teenage kids ask for it always!! Now I want to bake wheat bread next!!
For those that don't have bread flour or dried milk, I used this recipie and it works perfectly every time! 1 cup of water 3 cups of flour 2 tbsps of cold salted butter divided in 4ths [pretty sure you could use unsalted] 2 tbsps of sugar 1 3/4s teaspoon of salt 2 tbsps of whole milk 2 teaspoons of breadmachine yeast Just make sure the yeast doesn't touch the salt or the milk/water when putting the ingredients in. I usually add the water first, 2 cups of flour, all of the other ingredients then the last cup of flour to provide the yeast some protection 😉
Thank you so much for the recipe. I don't stock dry milk or bread flour. This was why I started looking at videos and this was the first one. Yippee! , didn't have to watch a thousand videos and recipes.
Oh my gosh thank you so much for this!! My mother in law gave me a bread maker she got at a garage sale and it has no Instructions and she wasn't sure how to use it either so thank you for this video!! It's extremely helpful!! 🤗

"TIP" Once kneeding cycle is complete remove dough then remove the mixing paddle, re-insert dough and let machine continue for a better looking loaf and less moisture loss due to lack of hole oil bottom of loaf.
I had a different bread maker that didn't last long. I bought it new. This one, my dad bought at a yard sale or something because I loved fresh bread. Well, this thing might have a smaller loaf, but it keeps on ticking. Just needed to recheck the loaf size.
I just bought one at a yard sale but it doesn't open on top the front opens and the bread Pan looks like a regular shaped bread Pan would. Everything be the same? There's no recipe book.
My wife got this same model at a thrift store couple years back...$40. Stopped mixing properly and I'm looking for clues as to why. Everything is operating just not mixing....idk

what type of flour??? in my country we have the hard flour, medium hard flour, and like the soft flour. which more or less will be for baking cakes, which flour do I use?
ANNA SIMÓN ESCRITORA , for bread you must use the hard flour; it may be also called Red duram or winter wheat since it is grown in the winter months. The soft flour you correctly write is grown in the warmer months and for cakes and pastries.
