I am 58 years old. My Mother is from North Dakota. Growing up I use to always watch her make homemade bread. Watching her kneed and kneed her dough in a huge wash tub. Watching her let it rise. We never bought a Loaf of Bread out of grocery store. We had a red handle bread knife that you could adjust to the size of the sandwich bread you wanted. I'll never forget how hard she worked a 40 hour a week job and made bread for the whole week. I miss those days. She is 81 now and back in North Dakota. What a Glorious Mother she is.

It is so beautiful to see a young woman who has mastered these traditional techniques. I'm 81 and have been making bread for 65 years also learned from my mother. With current prices a loaf of your bread would cost no more than $1 instead of $3 up to $7. All during covid my daughter in-law did our grocery shopping and I baked 8 loaves and shared them with her. There is nothing more rewarding than making bread.
My mom, who had dementia, came for supper the day I made bread. She sat herself down on a kitchen chair and sniffed and then in a sweet voice she said "oh, you made bread! Can I have the heel and lots of butter." Roles had been reversed. I am so blessed by having a mother like her. She died peacefully in my arms at 89. Your video made me happy and took me back to better times. Your Mom must be so proud of you. Thank you..

@tvigil880 Oh yes, I agree. I married into a Catholic family and I was just a believer in God but not Catholic so I sent my first 2 kids to cadicism but I found out how my boys were disciplined and took them out asap! I decided I would let them decide on their religion when they got older. BIG MISTAKE! People, please don't do that unless both parents go to church and show support in both religions. I pray my kids will come around and go to any church. It worries me all the time. My daughter goes but not my sons. But I can still pray for it. What gives me faith is I know God believes in them and loves them anyway. It's too much to put on a kid plus the bad taste they were left with in the Catholic school. God bless you and your family as well and Merry Christmas.

I have made many loaves of bread but always looking to try new recipes. I used olive oil instead of canola oil & added about a teaspoon of honey instead of sugar to the yeast water. Soooooooo good! What I like is it comes together fairly quickly AND two bonus loaves to gift to friends or family!! Its a nice change from the crusty artisan bread that I most often make. Great instructions!! If you've never made bread, this is a great recipe that you'll likely make over & over again!!

I love your story....the way it used to be. Back in a time when people helped each other out and didn't expect things for free, but at least tried to bring something useful to you in exchange. Nothing wrong with helping others when they need it too, but the simple barter system was a wonderful thing I think. I remember going to my Aunt's house in the mountains as a kid and we would beg to stay because she made the best fried chicken, fresh corn on the cob and green beans from her garden and fresh baked biscuits.... memories I will never forget. I started raising chickens and I've begun teaching myself how to make bread and it has inspired others around me to start or to take it back up again. There is so much satisfaction in making things from scratch....

Hi from New zealand. I have taught myself to make bread and I am always looking to see how I can improve my technique. It took me a while to use the proper way to knead the dough and not having big hands I found it a bit difficult but I found as long as I stretched the dough as I kneaded it didn't matter so much, but the correct technique is much easier on your hands. This is the first time I have seen the proper way to prepare the dough after the first rising and I think this is what makes all the difference in making a good crumb. Thank you so much I really appreciate it.

My problem was always the yeast. When they say lukewarm water, that won’t do it. I bloom the yeast even when they say to throw it in with the rest of the ingredients. Make sure the water or milk is between 110 and 115 degrees, that feels very hot to take a bath in. That is almost 1 minute in the microwave and of course it needs a little sugar mixed in too. It gets super foamy. Now I make the best bread, cinnamon bread/buns and rolls. Took til age 78 to get it right but these videos make it so easy. Thank you

Hi Sheri. This is probably the third time I've watched this. I can "almost" smell the bread. I use two different machines to make my bread, but like you, I prefer to bake it myself as opposed to letting the bread machine do it. I personally prefer to use stoneware to bake my bread. It requires no lubricants, such as PAM, or whatever. The only difference is that it's better to wait until the bread is cooled a bit before turning it out onto a breadboard. My best friend brags to others that my yeast rolls need no butter to be delicious! Thanks for the tips!

OK, I'm going to tell you that this is the VERY BEST BREAD I have ever made. I really liked the idea of using honey instead of sugar, and I like the fact that it made 3 loaves instead of 2. I used my kitchen aid for mixing and it worked just fine. I had to use the full 5 cups of flour. My yeast was Flechmens. My rising time was a little longer than 45 min, but after 1 hour I tested it using my finger to make an indent when I thought it was done, and it didn't spring back so it was confirmed. I also had to bake it a little longer than 1 hour, but I think that is just my oven. I couldn't wait to try it. It is delicious!! Thank you so very much for this recipe. I used to make my own bread. So good and so much cheaper. I always used bread flour
Can I ask why you use all purpose? Could your recipe be used with bread flour? Great video. I enjoyed watching. Do you make other yeast products other than bread?

Eileen W, that is what your dough hook is for, if your hands can't handle the kneeding. I found the boron/Borax mineral killed my art- hritis at 1/8 teaspoon in water and split between 2 meals. So knees are fixed now too. No cane, can kneed bread again. Life is younger. Hiking, baking, swimming down the river. (I started at the book: Medical Medium Celery Juice. Did 10 day challenge of 24 oz. Celery Juice. Day 4, 30% drop in pain, day 10 zero pain. (Started from level 9 pain.) Back to reccomended 16 oz daily, later switched to B o r a x protocol. Need 3X monthly now. Removed from googly for pharma wealth reasons. Fixes about 35 more things. Osteoporosis reverses 50% year 1.

@@charlanpennington3989 Thank you for your comments. I'm looking into a mixer that will knead the dough for me. Also, thanks for the tips about boron/Borax. I'll have to look into that, as well.

Eileen, I make bread all the time, similar recipe to this but its a little smaller and makes 2 loaves. I use my bread machine on the dough setting. But I remove it as soon as it has been kneaded or its still a bit too big when it rises. So I put all ingredients in the machine, press dough settings. I watch it in case I need to add more flour, then let it do the kneading. Once that is over I remove to a greased bowl and cover and then once doubled in size, shape two loaves and put in pans and bake in oven once they have also doubled. Saves on my hands and wrists, I have carpel tunnel, and dengerative disc disease so no way can I knead anymore. This works for me, and I sell some of my bread and they love it. I have an Oster kitchen center and it will not knead the bread with the dough hooks just makes a mess, so bread machine is my way I do not like bread baked with the machine though.

I have been baking our bread for years now and I have a Bosch mixer and wheat grinder and I love them. My question is what do you use to store your bread in after you bake it. I have tried several over the years but never really have one way that I really like. In the summer I would also make my own jam and have bread just out of the oven when my husband would get home from work and the fresh bread and jam where gone bust line that. He would take four sandwiches and several homemade cookies every day. Our son still makes home made bread thanks for your videos.

I'm back! Just finished making my first batch using your recipe. Instead of a stand mixer I used a large bowl and wooden spoon. Mixing and kneading by hand is most enjoyable for me. I baked two and put one in the fridge. It will be baked tomorrow night or the next day to see if slow fermentation made any flavor difference. The two that were baked are HUGE. Beautiful bread. Forget fitting any of those slices in the toaster. Ha! We let the loaves cool for about two minutes and broke out the bread knife and butter. One loaf went to a neighbor who gave me the honey he gets from his beehives. I'll be using this recipe again and I believe it could easily make four loaves.

I'm so glad you made it!! I really enjoy kneading bread too, I could do it in my mixer but prefer to do it by hand. I'm curious to know if the fermentation made any difference. Let me know! Yes, it can make 4 loaves they will just be a bit smaller and it depends on the size of your bread pans. So glad you like the recipe!! Thank you!!
