I have a stone wall fence and there are some gaps where the mortar has fallen out, but would like to use something similar to what I've seen in your video. I think it'll be a quicker easier and less mess job using that thing you did.

Novice question, for this type of fire pit, is the lava rock what you are “setting on fire” or are you still burning wood on top of it?
yes wood. the rocks are not flammable they just help keep oxygen at the bottom and seperate the fire from the sand and ash.
