The Spraying of the lube was a nice piece of info. Things like this are helpful to beginners as well as Old Dogs like me! Thanks!

Ben, I am glad this was helpful. The reason I make videos is to share the knowledge. I don't pretend to be an expert on anything, just sharing my experience. There are lots of ways to accomplish whatever goals we have, it is nice to know what worked for someone else. I appreciate you watching and commenting. The spray lanolin lube is inexpensive and can also be made from scratch if you are so inclined. Have a great day.

@@johnshandloading7907 yes, I know about the many uses of lanolin along with castra oil. Both are useful for high pressure lube as in bullet swaging. I shot Black Powder Cartridge Silhouette for many years and used beeswax with lanolin. Castra oil and canola oil to make my lube (all natural products and stayed soft with BP residue). I was sizing some freshly cast 150 gr 30 cal bullets today and had a problem with my die so I used some castra oil on my fingers and the problem was solved.

Just got mine in the mail today and it works GREAT it does EXACTLY what this video described. Can’t wait to shoot these ideal 311413’s tomorrow after getting the check on correctly.

The base of the bullet is what steers the bullet as it exits the bore, having the base as stright as possible gas check or not is just one of the many things that contributes to good accuracy. I've been putting gas checks on teh same bullets for quiet a few years since I started powder coating and some require me to use my RCBS Lube A Matic others depending on the powder I use go on very easily just using the Lee push through sizer. Thanks for posting the video.

Good tip there John ... I'm still using an old lube sizer that I've blocked the travel in to about 1/4" just to seat the checks and have control of the nose at the same time....yah, it's time consuming but our rifle casts aren't just a typical plinker load when GC's are installed. Excellent video.

Okay, I didn’t know there was such a thing as gas check seater die. Interesting! Thanks for sharing, John.

I find that using the Lee sizer seats the gas check firmly and squarely every time. I spray the bullets with Dillon case lube before pushing them through the sizer. It seems to work equally well pushing the bullets through either nose first or base first. The SAECO and RCBS sizers/lubers also seat gas checks, but not nearly as consistently as the Lee unit. Sometimes simple is best! I have Lee sizer dies in .430"; .451"; .452"; .454"; and .458". Like all Lee stuff, they are reasonably priced and they work.

I shoot a lot of .44 mag, (100-200 rounds a day) leading is a concern for me… would the gas check be worth while? I do spend a lot of time cleaning the bore of my rifle and pistol.
It may sound silly to some, but cost is always a factor for me, and I’m constantly weighing cost vs benefit.
I’m loving your content, thanks for your help.

My general rule for cast lead bullets is this: Rifle rounds get gas checks, pistol rounds do not. I too am a budget conscious reloader and when I was younger I had to quit shooting for a couple years because I could not afford it while my kids were little and my wife was a stay at home mom. I started hand loading to avoid that and also be self sufficient but but as you see EVEN THAT gets expensive. If I did not cast I would not shoot much. Depending on how fast you push them you may need gas checks. Some guys use checks all the time and some don't use them at all. I water quench and gas check my rifle bullets. I have noticed that certain times you get a lot of black goo that requires a lot of cleaning, it is not leading, I think it is the powder coat rubbing and burning into the rifling. It does come out. l suggest maybe stop half way at like 50/100 rounds and do a quick cleaning to get the first layers of buildup out while the bore is hot too. Hot bores clean better. Thanks for watching. I am here to try and help people and share knowledge.

I watched it three times thinking I had somehow missed the use and explanation NOE Gas Check Seater prominently mentioned in the title, only to realize the first 18 seconds with no audio was it. The title should be something like, "Lubing Bullets for Sizing".

YES you are right. I did a poor job showing it and should probably make a video on JUST the gas check seating die. I am still learning the video making process and don't have the best skills and equipment for sure. Thank you for the very fair critique, I agree with your opinion. I will take steps to show the gas check seating die by itself to try and correct this. Thank you for watching and commenting.
