There are a number of reasons for use of a Gas Check. One most think of is velocity and yes thats part of the equation. But more precisely its pressure. As pressures increase a GC is a real benefit. Another other is quality of the base. A GC offers better more consistent base and this is a very important part of a accurate bullet. I have not been able to get good accuracy from a bullet designed for a GC, when a GC is not in place. So as a rule, if a bullet calls for a GC its getting one if my load really requires one or not. Simply because I find better accuracy with one. Since PC I only rarely buy a GC designed bullet as most if my pressures and velocities combined with powder coat, do not require a GC. Hope that helps more then confuses.
Excellent molds sir. Only 22 cal mold I have right now is Lyman 225438. I use it for 22 hornet with unique powder. I will soon powder coat them and run gas check with 2400 powder. There’s just something cool about casting for 22 center fire rounds. I can shoot my hornet for so darn cheap.
@@cw2a Dare I say when loaded down to 22 mag power it’s a great squirrel bullet. My unique loads are like 2000 fps. My bullets are BHN of 16 and coming out at just around 45 grains with gas check. I only make head shots on the squirrels with cast hornet rounds.
@@cw2a That’s an awesome idea. I hadn’t even considered using powder coat and gas check to push soft lead faster. Wow I might try that with my unique loads bumped down slightly. Maybe 1600 fps. I’ve used powder coat to shoot 125 grain soft lead round nose flat point bullets to 1000 fps in 38 special.
@@jw-sigp2258 yuppers!! The GC helps offset lil higher pressures and PC shields from leading. Great combo! Some think PC replaces a GC it does NOT. It will allow most hand guns to not need a GC. But pc does little for pressure and thats the real issue as velocity increases.

I think you will like that 65gr MP. I really like mine in the AR rifles. My Savage with the Criterion barrel is too tight and too short of a throat to use them in right now. I only have about 50rnds through the barrel right now. But once it gets a bunch of rounds I will revisit it in that gun.
I missed that! Happy birthday! Nice molds! Sounding a bit jaded with the YT Nazis! Understandable. #2 mold is a beaut! Very distinct lines. Thanks for the bamboo tip! See ya! Oh yeah, what was the weight on the M&P? Oh oh yeah yeah awesome army green! Also that APP is pretty handy!
Yes, sometimes. Powdercoat does not replace gas checks. But what it does is it raises the velocity threshold where a gas check is required. So to generalize, regular revolver, cartridges, magnums or otherwise one powder coated will not require a gas check. But, I find better accuracy when a mold is cut for a gas check, when I use a gas check. When I cast a rifle bullet, generally, they're all checked. I will powder coat it and gas. Check it. I gas check, better handles the higher pressures found in rifle loadings.
Beautiful Bullets, I've heard that Lyman gets their gas checks from Hornady. Ya sure gets a lota casts out of a 20lb of alloy with those tiny bullets. 😁👍
Thanks for the mention ----

Will this mold work for the Hatsan BT65 22cal air rifle?
USUALLY a standard designed bullet isnt best in a air gun. But Im not an authority on such. Sorry I do not know for certain.
Thanks for watching'
Great video , I am interested in how that MP bullet does at the range , Could you do a accuracy test ?
I will for sure. Just may be a while as we are into cold weather and Im not as able ta get to the range.
@@cw2a How Hard is Linotype ? How much pressure can it handle ?
If it's harder than wheel weights why would it need a gas check ?

Can those bullets be used on .22 air rifle?
I know some conventional cast bullets are used in some PCP air guns. But I do not know that these are a good choice or not. Thanks for watching.
@@cw2a thanks for your reply. I was thinking of buying the LEE mould to make pellets for my .22 air rifle not sure if this will work or not
Id say no. But I know that NOE (Night Owl Enterprises) makes mold for air guns. Have ya looked at there molds?
Actually, the specification for Lee molds are based on a Lead/Tin alloy, it actually states that on the product sheet that comes with their molds.

I was after that Lee mold but now I have an RCBS & NOE so it's hard to justify another with the low volume I need. They sure look good CW.
