This guide was a MONSTER help.....but seriously. Thank you. I had watched other vids but couldn't grasp everything. I felt so lost. But the way you put things and described why you were doing them has me feeling confident in the systems for the very first time.
Being completely new to the franchise and having MH: Rise as my first title, I was completely overwhelmed with the mechanics of the game. Having Longsword as the default weapon to start with did not help either (as the counter mechanic is the bread and butter of this weapon). I had to teach myself a lot by failing countless times in hunts and runs with other players. Anyway, finally achieved HR 40 last night. Looking to improve my build using Decorations, and I stumbled into your video. Thank you so much for the helpful rundown!
Simple... learn game until rajang armour. Rinse rajang until you get it full armour. Rinse everything up to level 100, get valstrax unlocked, wear all its skin, rinse everything in the game. Get every decoration then work on a god roll talisman. See you at hr 999 and sunbreak .
Iv played all of rize and just went into sum break and this video was so good for explaining and simple to learn.I don’t even know some of the stuff you wear talking about but now I do.This video was well made and well structured 👍🏼
Regardless of what weapon, I must build and preferably max out crit eye/crit boost/wek ex/burst for raw and crit eye/crit elem/elem ex/burst for elememental.
Great guide! First time playing MH and looking at all the stat weights I thought i was in a college course. Your guide broke it down wonderfully for my noob brain. Thanks for taking the time to make this.
You’re taking the title too literally. He’s saying to not waste gems and mantles by just crafting anything at the beginning. Some rewards take a long time to earn. Learn how to min/max as you go along so that by the end of sun break. You have a respectable build you can use while you’re farming for more materials.
Great video!! I wanted to get into Monster Hunter World back when it released, but I had a very hard time trying to learn the game. It appeared that MHR was simplified a little around the edges, so I was excited to hear it was coming to GamePass. It was still overwhelming to start, but I've been trying to learn what I can. You made this very simplified and easy to understand. Videos like this help players like me that normally wouldn't play a certain game, the chance to learn it, and enjoy the game while we play.
I started with World and it was a little overwhelming at first, but over time you start to learn more and more and get better at the game so it comes naturally. I feel like I still don’t understand the canteen system in World even though i’ve put 850 hrs in it lol. I’m glad they simplified the canteen with the dango system, it’s way more easily understandable.
Monster hunter is now my new favorite game . With only 20 or so hour in rise and world combined . I like rise slightly more at this point , amazing games
Thank you for this vid, it's my first Monster Hunter, and I just started, been watching some videos on youtube, but they lacked your simplicity / precision. You are clear, and it makes sense, and now I get it, thank you, @Dear Gamer.
If your using a weapon with a shield get guard up level 3 it allows you to block every attack and take pretty much zero damage its very good on weapons like lance and gunlance
Thanks a lot. I’m at High Rank rn, and I felt like I wasn’t really been focusing much on my armor setup. I’m a newcomer to the Monster Hunter Rise and series. There is a lot to grasp with this game, but I’m really enjoying it so far.
What's really messed up is the system is totally different on Monster Hunter rise and world that it is on Monster Hunter generations and 3 Ultimate 3 tri. I generally play and help people out on all the games. And, is very easy to tell people that are coming to Generations ultimate or three ultimate from the newer games because, they don't have a clue on how to set up their equipment. That's not saying that they're dumb or anyting, but the way skills are applied with the number system in the newer games actually does not work with the older games. What happens is this, on the newer games I might have five active armor skills and the only numbers we see applied or 1, 2, or 3. On the newer games that makes the skills active. On the older games there's a minimum number of 10 that needs to be applied for that particular skill for it to be active. Some skills required + 15 some require + 20. But the players coming from the newer games will insist that they have all these skills active because they have the numbers one, two, or three. I ended up making my own video for Generations ultimate and 3 Ultimate to explain the differences because I got really tired of trying to explain it in game. I noticed people coming from the older games to the newer games usually have an easier time figuring these things out. Thank you for making this video. I'm glad I'm not the only one doing so.
Just started on MH Rise recently after i got the game for the switch...its hard still to understand stuff i cant decide the best weapon for me yet but for now im using sword and shield cuz kinda feels safe in some way but i like super fast weapons so im torn between my two playstyles...the super fast attacker and the fortress if theres a weapon with good middle ground in those areas i aprecciate all help i can get to go all in this game.
Been on your channel since mhw youre the one who really progressed mostly compared to othee new to MH youtubers back in 2018. Btw im 2 years late on Rise cause of busy years but now im here. I missed a lot. Maybe im just the only one who is new to rise this 2023😂
Elemental damage isnt just good on fast hitting weapons. The amount of element status applied is different depending on the weapon. For example dual blades may take 10 hits before it procs, and greatsword may only need 3 hits.
I started yesterday and can't stop playing! It feels very different but also similar to world, I wish there are 2-3 more new monsters but I love it. The new mechanics and movement are great. Love the wirebugs but only use them for the special attacks 😅Kamure is very beautiful but feels extreme small compared to the base in world. All in all rise is a 8/10 for me because I hate most of the old monsters (basarios, volvidon...) 😅

Got this video on my home page, and after watching it with a bit of skipping, I have to say pretty decent. However, there are three things that I believe could have been gone a bit further into or clarified for the sake of new players who have never played monster hunter before. First, is why element is good on fast attacking weapons like dual blades but not on relatively slower weapons. Second is the weapon you showed in the sharpness section doesn't really have green sharpness immediately. Rather, you need a skill called Handicraft to get to it. Third is the sharpness modifier table you showed. If I'm not mistaken, those modifiers are strictly for raw damage and there are different modifiers for element damage and shelling damage.
Got a switch and Rise a few days ago. It's a big switch coming from icebourne. Keep hitting A instead of X, or getting the shoulder and trigger buttons switched
@yuilix__972 Master Rank 308, Hunter Rank 602. I'm still working on rebuilding on PS5. But DG's builds have been a foundation of some of my builds over the span of MHW and Rise/Sunbreak.
Insect glaive is such a fun weapon once u get the hang of it. I've noticed my deaths have seriously dropped off now that I'm a floating ninja lol. Takes some practice to time the air jumps and land the hits but man you will be the star of the show with that shit sometimes lol. They should also change the whole decoration thing. It does nothing to actually decorate your weapon it's just an unseen buff lol.
I know the term "decoration" is kind of misleading as a term, but decorations have been simple personalized stat buffs since the beginning of the series.
Thanks for the video. Algorithm did me a solid and recommended it to me. Rise is my first monster hunter and even though I've reached HR40, I don't feel like I'm well equipped for my rank. Honestly never knew about decorations and paying attention to skills other than "quick draw" on armor pieces(also a long sword user). Hopefully some of the tips you've given help with my low damage and hopefully I can do something about getting one shotted by Kushala Daora.
thank you~ i'm planning to buy MHR and this is so easy to understand because i played genshin with all those crit rate, crit damage, substats, skills...
Hey DG, as someone who hasn't played rise at all on switch but did put a lot of time onto the world, especially around fatalis endgame time. I was wondering if sunbreak also has the same build potential as iceborn had at endgame. You could have a full build with the majority of skills maxed out and everything. Does sunbreak come close to that or do you think it's making its way there?
Base Rise is limited for builds due to not having access to Certain Talismans you need to acquire if your going after a meta build. In Sunbreak the build potential is vast but RNG is a thing. The Talisman System gets better though.
Yhup .. sunbreak really opens up the build possibilities... and as talismans went back to RNG and decos are craftable again... It's much easier to make the build you want... Random talismans are also sometimes a boon.. coz it kinda pushes you to try different builds .
You can max out A la iceborn, however certain, highly desirable skills can't be slotted using decorations. Qurios armor crafting is extremely expensive and rng dependent, less so than talisman farming. If you see a maxed play, they spend a Ton of time/ materials/ zenny on their armor. The payoff is glorious. I trivialize MR fights. AR200 Flaming Espinas is the only monster that poses any risk to me presently.
I’ve been having so much fun with this game already, HR120 and just got my third slay on Valstrax with 118 hours already. Still greatly appreciate the video!
Amazingly helpful to a new player! Ive been fond of the monster hunter games for ages but never got to playing them because the initial learning curve is a bit offputting to someone used to more streamlined rpgs like Kingdoms of Amalur or Legend of Zelda. I got only one question... So i found out that basically as new character you get armor and the potential to (easily) craft a certain weapon that help you get to the dlc faster... Obviously as new player i dont want that so whats the best way i would start out? Just ditch the armor i'm given and start with nothing and craft leather armor instead and just ignore the defender blades at all costs? Is that the way?
there is no wrong way to build in rise as every monster is situational and it would be a good idea to have a balanced build. Sharpness is not really about damage that is just a secondary effect. Sharpness is for Armor Penetration as it's primary mechanic. if you want to know the elemental weakness to a monster just check out it's Armor after slaying it. you can figure out elemental weakness majority of the time by the monsters elemental and or status attacks. once you figure it out switch your weapon to that element, if you do not have that element then just switch to raw damage.
If you're new to Monster Hunter. *Don't watch this video yet* It's far too Damage focused. This isn't the classical Monster Hunter where you can be hunting for 40 minutes. *Play for fun* Not for fast hunts or muh DPS. If you want advice. 1. Try all weapons to see which one you like and it feels right. Only you know that answer to this. 2. Learn the recovery of your weapon of choice. For example some moves you can roll out of and some you can't. 3. Take your time when fighting new monsters. Why? Because virtually all moves have tales. You can't learn these by blitzing monsters. It's why people run into walls. They don't learn the subdue lessons and when faced with consequences, They either permanently quit or lean the hard way and improve. Once you Roll credits after High Rank, *then come back* to a video like this to see where you can improve.
This is my first Monster Hunter game that I've bought and actually played in depth, instead of only for a moment at a friends place. I'm main the hammer, kinsect glaive, switch axe, and long sword with elemental power. Then I pack on the defense and damage with decorations, as well as those protection ones that have a set chance to lower damage taken. I absolutely love using the hammer with the ko and destroyer decorations, and just bully the monsters. When it comes to kinsect glaives, I try running blast with them as often as I can when I use them.

This my first time playing a game from the mh series on Xbox s game is smooth good graphics sweet gameplay I use bow atm but want to get good with long sword
I came from world and I understand why they changed LS helm slash but I feel like they made it so complicated now......not sure how I feel so Ive been using switch axe and dual blades a lot so far early game
Just got this game for 20 dollar on my Switch, and this is the best video guide for me to start progressing my character I'm curious tho, is it better to grind on hub or village? I'm a solo player with bad internet connection, and missions on hub are taking around 20 minutes or more to complete
Hey thanks for watching! I would grind village to farm specific monsters that you need to make your weapon and armor. The game will give you an option to skip some hub quest if you focus on village quest.
Hey bro do you have a build that can carry you through high ranks till you get too master or do you have too use multiple builds ? Cause mitsu was busting my ass just too get into HR6 given I’ve only just started but the jump in difficulty was wicked
if anyone needs help in the missions, i can help you (i'm a switch player) or if anyone knows if there is a group, welcome, i always play alone hahaha i'd like to play online with other people a bit
I'm sorry my guy but there is no perfect way to build your character or right way to build your character it's however you wish to build it would be the correct way and there is no wrong way to create your character as most people who play the game are not those insane min/maxers within the monster Hunter community. To the people who watch this video just know that any build you want to make is the correct build do it however you want.
So I played on switch and I’m currently on console now, and I like the console graphics better then the switch but I wouldn’t say it’s a huge difference for me it’s just slightly better, and the controls are much easier which is one of the reasons why I quit playing rise on the switch is because I could never get the controls down, but it all depends on the player so make the choice you want to make.
When it comes to the armor abilities..do you have to wear the full set to get the bonus or can you mismatch with other gear to get more bonus combinations
This games were far better on the DS I just bought this base on nostalgia and what a shock ! What I find is a mess idk the game tell me to choose my weapon type and armor to then having totally different weapons and armor I guess this gen settled for everything
You won’t have a lot of good options for deco’s until late HR6/7 and after you beat the final boss, then your options for decos and melding expands to the better skills. However depending on your weapon you can still look into getting a talisman that is helpful even early on, I melded a wirebug whisperer talisman early on, eventually about mid way through high rank you can craft quick sheathe jewels if you’re playing longsword, and meld quick sheathe talismans. So I was able to get a decent build put together by the end of high rank. But you can meld some decently helpful jewels like free meal and speed sharpening fairly early on into high rank. It takes a good amount of work to actually craft them though. I had a pretty solid set of skills with wirebug 3, quick sheathe 3, weakness exploit 3, critical boost 2 etc. by the end of the main story

i'm planning to buy MHR and this is so easy to understand because i played genshin
with all those crit rate, crit damage, substats, skills...
Yes in Sunbreak build are actually crazy, you can max out all attacking skills. You would just need some RNG.
Build variety in sunbreak actually really varied, unlike iceborne where everything's just 3 piece teostra
AR200 Flaming Espinas is the only monster that poses any risk to me presently.
this is a very good video to get people started, coming from someone who has over 1000 hours on rise. well done.
Great vid most vids just tell you what item to get this was more of how to understand how to build your own … thank you great vid bud
Im playing rise and its my first monster hunter game ever and this guide helped alot, thanks!
Just started on xbox and it’s really great so far, just need to practice with long sword more 😢
there is no wrong way to build in rise as every monster is situational and it would be a good idea to have a balanced build.
Hey man I use to watch you when I was younger I’m sad that your channel didn’t grow more you were always my favorite
I'd choose attack and crit deco and skills and/or maybe some utilities. just upgrade armor pieces to compensate the defense?
This is my first Monster Hunter game that I've bought and actually played in depth, instead of only for a moment at a friends place. I'm main the hammer, kinsect glaive, switch axe, and long sword with elemental power. Then I pack on the defense and damage with decorations, as well as those protection ones that have a set chance to lower damage taken. I absolutely love using the hammer with the ko and destroyer decorations, and just bully the monsters. When it comes to kinsect glaives, I try running blast with them as often as I can when I use them.
Negative affinity is a chance to do less damage, not a lower chance to crit.
Ya I’ve been playing mh since the first frontier and I still don’t get what affinity is
@@IceNoaIceTea affinity = crit chance
Ahhhhh...very easy to understand guide...thanks man, i only play Mh:portable (psp) a loooong time ago, didnt have the chance to finish the game 😁
Hopefully theres somehere playing on nintendo, gotta need some help hahaha
I played a lot of mhw and just started rise on ps5. Which game would you consider better?
💯💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ thank you so much for taking the time to do this video I just want to say that I appreciate your work and I ascribe that I like much-loved Keep On Rocking
I don't really go for DPS... I really like that makes hunts easier skills . Recovery SPD/boost, speed sharp, razor sharp, deff boost...
I like to be as immortal as possible😅
Starting MH Rise, right in time for the new dlc. Your video helps me. Thank you!
Yo quick question what is metal material and bone material good for in weapons, do they cut better? What's there advantage
You just gather them to make weapons and some armors, they don't affect the ability of your weapon.
GG guide, finally i understand how to build weapon and armor
Jeez, where have you been in my MH life?! This is the tutorial I needed. 😁 Subscribing for more. Thank you so much.
My man, thank you for watching! I'll be back when the next MH game is out.
@@DearGamerTV Ayyy! I totally look forward to it. New favourite Monster Hunter youtuber! :D Hope you have a great day by the way.
Thanx alot for this video, but what i dont understand when do i use weapon trees, weapon list or upgrade list? What is the difference would you please explain that also?
Bro I’m going to need a long sword build with fast sheathing with good armor set. Going to be replaying after a while since the switch version
Been following ur content since u started MH World and was so pleased to see you're revisiting your "how to" type vids on MH:Rise for console since we just got access to it, love the vid and longsword for life 😁 just hit HR5 and still going. Need that max build for when sunbreak drops so can be ready to hit the ground rolling
You know after 10 hours in world ( which i still wanna finish on playstation) and after almost 15 hours of rise ( alot of time was spent jus gathering also) but so far i find rise way easier to start with and a little less complicated it feels . I prefer rise now gonna finish this one first
love the guide, watching it again while i make my build!
Super helpful. I’m about 22 hours in and hadn’t really figured out much of this
Glad it helped!
This my first time playing a game from the mh series on Xbox s game is smooth good graphics sweet gameplay I use bow atm but want to get good with long sword
I sold my rarity 3 decorations but I kept the rest . I’m running out of money too. Kinda sucks that I’m gonna start to struggle with low cash
I came from world and I understand why they changed LS helm slash but I feel like they made it so complicated now......not sure how I feel so Ive been using switch axe and dual blades a lot so far early game
Just got this game for 20 dollar on my Switch, and this is the best video guide for me to start progressing my character
I'm curious tho, is it better to grind on hub or village? I'm a solo player with bad internet connection, and missions on hub are taking around 20 minutes or more to complete
Hey thanks for watching! I would grind village to farm specific monsters that you need to make your weapon and armor. The game will give you an option to skip some hub quest if you focus on village quest.
I have a question. When you look at the elemental damage, is that the damage it does plus the raw damage?
Awesome guide. Thanks for the chapters!
Thank you, glad it helped
Hey I’ve got questions on half of my weapon tree do I just unlock all of one side to unlock the other half
I'm at the beginning rn, so sry if you answer later, but how do you unlock the ability to craft high rank armor?
Hey bro do you have a build that can carry you through high ranks till you get too master or do you have too use multiple builds ? Cause mitsu was busting my ass just too get into HR6 given I’ve only just started but the jump in difficulty was wicked
Yeah that was the first “hard” fight l. Yeah I have a build I made a playlist on my 36 tips video comments, check it out.
@@DearGamerTV thanks man got a new sub for life 🔥🔥
Thanks man your the best
Consistent uploader wit the best advice and tips. Man take care of his supporters 🙏
Thank you for the help !!
Glad I found your channel when I did bro! I was about to give up on this game.
I’m happy you did too, thanks for watching
Dog, you are hitting it out of the park with these videos!
Thank you fam 🙏🏾
Love your vibe!
Dude I just got it and even though this was confusing sometimes it helped me mostly understand everything 👍
if anyone needs help in the missions, i can help you (i'm a switch player) or if anyone knows if there is a group, welcome, i always play alone hahaha i'd like to play online with other people a bit
Very nice explanation. You make it easy to understand. The only monster hunter game I’ve played before was on the ds 😂 So it’s been a while since
Glad I could help!
Just started playing today, game its way more complex than I thought
I'm sorry my guy but there is no perfect way to build your character or right way to build your character it's however you wish to build it would be the correct way and there is no wrong way to create your character as most people who play the game are not those insane min/maxers within the monster Hunter community. To the people who watch this video just know that any build you want to make is the correct build do it however you want.
Thanks great video
This will be super useful
New to rise on xbox, and I'm enjoying it, this helped me out a lot though
Hey DG, what I want to know is the graphics and the gameplay experience is it a huge difference compared to the Switch?
So I played on switch and I’m currently on console now, and I like the console graphics better then the switch but I wouldn’t say it’s a huge difference for me it’s just slightly better, and the controls are much easier which is one of the reasons why I quit playing rise on the switch is because I could never get the controls down, but it all depends on the player so make the choice you want to make.
When it comes to the armor abilities..do you have to wear the full set to get the bonus or can you mismatch with other gear to get more bonus combinations
You want to mix match, similar to what I did at the end of the video
Do u level up armor once bought and all decorations r applied
Thank you for this video ... very helpful for a noob like me
This games were far better on the DS I just bought this base on nostalgia and what a shock ! What I find is a mess idk the game tell me to choose my weapon type and armor to then having totally different weapons and armor I guess this gen settled for everything
how do you equip gear without changing your cosmetic?
Smooth Guide!
What platform are you on?
What HR should you start diving in to talismans and decorations
Probably when the village quest end or going to high rank
I say explore decorations as soon as possible and see what selections there are to craft. You might find something that suits your fighting style.
Also a lot of decorations don’t unlock until you beat a specific monster, so you’ll want to fight all of the monsters in high rank
O ok I guess I have a long way
I just don’t have that much time because I work full time and go to the gym
