Hi Shivam,
I'm experienced personal (9+ years) and also leading a team. Right now I'm a Product Engineer & wanted to move towards Project Management. Would you please help me what should I do first and start my journey towards Project Management.
Thanks,
You mostly have what it takes in terms of skills, understanding the processes, team formation, delegation etc.
I'd recommend going through a few youtube video courses on PM once and see if you can get an internal transfer for a 1 or 2 projects as a PM to see how you can handle it.
If everything goes well you can check your eligibility for PMP cert and prepare accordingly :)
let me know if this makes sense
Hello Shivam , I am working as a software engineer with 8+ years of experience. However, I would like to switch career in project management as project manager(currently pursuing prince2 certification)…. Is project management is the right way to start ? Do we have career growth? Can you please help?
PMs do have career growth however since you have such exp one thing to think would be to build a PM path for yourself within software teams so Technical PM or alternatively look at engineering management.
The market is very tough and it is easy to feel that whatever field we are in has limited growth and some other field has more growth(grass is greener quote) so I'll also advise to look at things more realistically but yes PMs do have growth however unless you're a PM at a FANG or similar company it might be tough to beat SDE packages etc.
So the whole point is that PM is superb, especially if you can leverage your SDE experience and build on that otherwise you'd be taking a step down...hope this makes sense
Hey! Shivam
Just wanted to clear out some doubt can a Business development consultant(IT service and Consultancy) with 4 years of experience can opt for project management role. And if yes would comapanies hire a candidate with experience as a intern
ideally yes there are quite a few transferable skills imo - intern experience counts to some extent but of course based on your question I think you already know it won't count too much
Hey Shivam. I have more than a decade’s experience in non-IT sales in various companies. I am looking to get into a Project Management role. I am currently doing the professional certification from Coursera. I have a bachelors degree in hospitality and hotel management. What would you suggest my next step be to get into a project management role?
as you do your course I will suggest talking to people in PM roles who might have a similar path as you - linkedin search mein use filters to do this
2. I will suggest exploring internships or at the very least project coordination roles etc - NGOs or part time volunteer opportunities at NGOs are a good way to get things going and get some actual experience
3. In parallel of the above 2, work on your resume from a PM role viewpoint and choose 5-10 companies you want to apply to and create really really good applications and send them over. Right after that try to get in touch with the hiring managers and see if you can get your resume seen
Note: make sure to highlight managerial and project related experience you might have with your previous roles - do not apologize for not having the experience but make sure to frame it in a way that skills match as much as possible to PM roles
@@frwrdfast great insights. Thank you
I have done my MBA in 2024 March and right now I am working as a TSO for Marico company but I am not satisfied with my role and package so I am looking for a new course or new career path, so after MBA project management is worth it or not and please help me with the pros and cons of this
@@CoolDeepYT0 you just completed your MBA, just started a career path, how are you looking for a new path in 5 months?😱😱😱😱 or are you watching too many day in my life or 5 crore package wale youtube videos???
@@frwrdfast it's not about 5 months or 5 crores, People from different colleges having same degree, they are getting higher role with good package and I know my mistake that I choose an average college that time I was not aware about it thats why it happened, and right now i am handling a Territory for this company as a sales manager but I have high interest in event management I worked for various channels and even I started my own start of event management. That's why I asked you I am doing my work because I don't have any other choices right now and I am not happy with my work or colleagues or environment I don't know.
so my suggestion would be to give it some more time(current work, job and colleagues), I understand what you mean but rather than jumping off right away, try to find learning points in your current role while you look for new opportunities - in the interim look at event management roles - even though event management studies are a different learning path, with an MBA you are eligible to get roles around event management - look for events companies and operations related roles there - see what they are asking for and start building towards that line.
I am a Mechanical Engineer with diverse experience across manufacturing, site engineering, and biogas.
While I don't have formal IT experience, I know coding and am a quick learner. Currently working as a Business Development Project Engineer, I'm eager to transition into a Project Manager role.
Any advice on how to best position myself for this shift?
ideally I'd say explore what PM responsibilities can you pick up in your current role/current company and start adding that to your profile.
Internal transitions are usually the easiest - internal industry specific transitions. So ideally looking into PM opportunities within the company across manufacturing, engg or biogas projects could be a good start
I'm currently working in inventory management & opt google project management course so I'm asking that after completing google course which exam should i prefer CAPM / PMP
PMP will hold more weight since CAPM is a beginner level exam - so if you are eligible then you can explore PMP.
Hello Shivam, i am a Bachelor degree holder in Interior Design and have Completed 12 plus years of experience in Interior Projects, recently i completed my PMP certification from PMI . Now i thinking of doing a post graduate or MBA online mode what specializing would be better for me to add value to my career in senior roles
Ideally if you can get a role in PM and explore an MBA along with it - it would be better.
Specialisation would depend on your future plans per say - what is it you want to take your career towards?
Please respond that any work experience is required for this certification or a fresher can also do this? A guy in another UA-cam video mentioned that a 3 year experience is required for this certification. Is this true?
I've done engineering from India and no job experience. How am I supposed to proceed?
No experience required mere hisab se to but project management jobs milna tough hai with just this cert and no experience - PMP certification requires experience not the google certification
I'm currently working as a Program Manager in an edtech industry. I neither have an experience of SaaS nor I have the educational background of it. Though I have just received PSM certification. I feel clueless on how to move forward.
Adjust your linkedin, resume etc
Try for an internal position change to PM or certain projects where you can get PM or scrum master responsibilities
Hi Shivam
I have done MBA in Agribusiness and now having 1 year experience as Project Executive in an NGO, I want to switch, having intrest in AI related courses and do project management course and get a job ...what are the options for me?
Have you explored project roles in ai or tech companies? Checkout what their job descriptions look like to get an idea on how to setup your own profile to best fit your
Is doing project management course after working as a chemist in research and development department will be good?
Depends on what you want to do aage - does it fit with your career goals? How are you planning to leverage your past experience? Any opportunities in your industry where you can be a good fit as a PM?
shivam sir if I will work as a warehouse Incharge in future can I then do PMP Project Management after getting 6 months of more than 1 years of experience??
technical question, I am not sure about this tbh - might want to google once - technically Warehouse Incharge can be treated as managing projects but im not sure
OK sir..
Is project management only for IT projects? I'm in HR now and looking to switch to project management, but I'm looking for non-IT project management roles
no not really - project management can be applied to any and all fields - you will see tons of non it positions such as real estate project managers, retail, supply chain etc etc
Hi Shivam.
I am a school teacher since 5 years but I wish to enter into project manager field. I have managed teams and have leadership qualities. So please tell me as a complete fresher in this field should I follow the same steps as you have mentioned or there will be more to it? Please guide..
Thank you!
As a first step I'll suggest modifying your resume in the direction of project management- highlighting relevant experience within your current role
Then see if this opens up PM job roles for you, in parallel I'll suggest checking out your eligibility for the PMP exam too
There are udemy courses as well as youtube playlists that teach what you need for PMP but the condition is eligibility for that exam - although if you get that certificate it doesn't mean getting a job would be a easy but PMP is a well respected cert so it will open up doors to interviews when HR people review resumes
Lmk if this answers your question
@@frwrdfast Thanks for your reply Shivam. I think what you just said makes sense. To begin with I have started taking courses on udemy but I guess Google certification is a must to have isn't it? Also I have researched about PMP exam but I am not eligible for it. As far as I read about it I first need to get a cAPM certification only then I can go for PMP. What do you suggest? And also I wanted to know about intership whether to apply for it after the course end or after I finish my certification course?
technically no certification is a must have - google will help for sure and especially if you are not eligible for PMP yet then Google cert will help to some extent.
as for CAPM then PMP, im not sure that is correct - PMP requires work ex or education - specific number of hours other than that it should be cool however any industry cert that requires a proper proctored exam would help to some extent
As for the internships I'll suggest start applying for a few and see especially since you have a background as a teacher. Gauge the response you get on your internship applications and then you will have a better idea of the next steps
Usually transitions are best if done internally or step by step, so,.
Best case scenario would be to talk to your employers and see if you can handle PM responsibilities - in parallel google ka cert to get started would help figure out properly ki kya kya cheezein required hoti hain
Hope this helps!
Okay Shivam. I'll take care of what you said and thank you so much for your valuable time for answering my questions.
My pleasure, good luck!
Hello Shivam
I recently completed my MBA in Project Management and I'm fresher can you please guide me to how to start the job preparation for a project manager
And one more question
Can i join the product manager job?
1. have you started exploring internships? resume, linkedin etc complete karo and start applying for internships too
2. and technically no - product managers are more technical roles especially these days the expectation is that you'd know analytics, development pipelines etc as a product manager
Hey Shivam , what exactly should i experience as to clear any interview , i believe only going through courses won't be enough . Some internships? Any leads would be appreciated
internships are a great idea, preparing well for interviews through QnA is another good idea so you know what recruiters and hiring managers are expecting in the answers
Hello Shivam,
Currently am working as a program manager and want to switch to project management field. I heard about pmi certification. Is pmi same as pmp? Can u plz share a roadmap for the project management field?
Pmi is the org that gives out pmp - also btw why do you need a cert? Curious question: how come you want to go into a more hands on role like project management from program management??? Most project managers aspire to get into program roles one day
Are you interested in being more hands on rather than more managerial?
Hi Shivam, will you be able to suggest some good courses in India for Project management certification or one year degree which provide placements?
usually colleges in India do help with placements as such - so all good colleges that have PM would fit in that criteria. Courses usually don't, colleges outside India also do NOT provide placements so they don't fit that criteria.
Hey shivam sir, hope you are doing well.
I have done my bachelors in economics. I wanted to do my masters in international business or entrepreneurship since I want to run a business on my own one day. But everyone is suggesting me to do project management (from UK). What should I do? Please help. 😢
Also, are project management and IT project management two different fields?? Which one is better??
Both are different in terms that IT PM mein you will learn more about managing software and tech projects - a lot of transferable skills if you want to be an entrepreneur some day
Tends to be better to first experience the corporate side of things, work in a startup or two so you understand what it takes to actually run a company and for that it will be better to learn something jiska demand is strong
With a bachelors in economics there are a lot of fields open to you from data to project management
Wanted an opinion on what is the value of MBA or PGDM course from Symbiosis through online or distance mode in today's scenario especially in MNC and private sector?
Distance avoid kar sako to better hai - the general perception of distance is that it tends to be relatively lower quality
Bhai agar mai project management ka course mai coursera se karu is it a good idea ,bcz i dont have that much money for mba
Coursera ya online courses are not going to replace MBA but aap 2-3 courses ko mix karke kar sakte ho to get started and explore internships and then job opportunities
Hi,
I'm a third year student pursuing Bcom from Delhi University. I wish to go for Project Management. How shall I proceed?
Ideally learn about Pm from any free course, work on your resume and add a portfolio project to showcase and then start applying for internships - internships are the best way to learn while building experience
@@frwrdfast Can you provide some links for free courses?
Google project management on coursera is a good start
@@frwrdfast this is a paid course
@@specsyshristi just click on audit for free and all the material will be available for free
I have a Btech degree in computer science I want to go in project management in UK. Please suggest if its feasible.
Feasibility will depend on why you want to do it, how big of an expense it is going to be etc - it might make more sense to work for a couple years before going for a masters such as PM since it will help you extract much more value in terms of salaries and opportunities
hello sir...currently i m in Ba 3rd year and learning japanese language as well and also want to make my career In project management field...so i want to know that as you told about interships .....how to grab internships and how much time and cost project management will take? and capm exam requires 23 hours of study completion what is the meaning of that? and it is necessary to do mba ?....pls reply sir
1. MBA not needed but a lot of jobs are going to prefer candidates with degrees in project management
2. Japanese is a great language to learn and if you are above N3 or at N2 you can open potential opportunities in Japan as well
3. CAPM or PMP has eligibility criteria for the exam of some study hours etc - my suggestion would be to go for PMP instead of CAPM. CAPM is slightly more beginner level and might not carry as much weight as a PMP cert. You can buy any project management course on udemy that covers the 36 PDU hours for PMP exam eligibility - check FAQ section on the website, you will understand what it means - alternatively you can also ask ChatGPT or watch a couple videos on youtube about PMP eligibility.
4. Time and cost depends on how you go about it totally - most masters in PM are 1 year long, but PMP can open up opportunities much sooner too.

Wish u great future ahead 🤞

3. Udemy or Coursera or Google course is best?
4. After clearing pmp we should directly apply for job or internship?
5. I should do degree in pm or just course and give exam?
6. As I searched on Google , I came to know that fees to give PMI exam for non member of PMI is 17000 something...so if we fail in exam we have to deposit this full 17000 again ??
Pls reply sir pls.... because I have no one guide pls
@@frwrdfast pls reply
1. I will suggest learning PM on your own, building something of a project for your resume and start applying to internships even before you clear PMP
2. udemy courses are better - udemy ke PDU hours wale courses teach what you need and also check the eligibility criteria
3. degrees are still preferred in all the fields but PMP is an industry certification so it can still help to some extent even if you don't have a degree
6. im not sure of the fee wala point - check the number of attempts - mostly industry certifications are expensive actually because these are proper exams for specialists and recognized world over too
Can freshers get into project management?
Yes but best would be to look at junior project management job descriptions on linkedin etc to understand what they're really asking for today
How is the potential for project management for civil engineers?
Overall its great - competitive but great - check linkedin job postings to get an idea on what is expected
@@frwrdfast what if I want to pursue MS in the same abroad before trying for jobs?
Hey Shivam sir
Actually currently i m pursuing bcom from open university and planning to do pm course so please guide me.. Nd how to land up into pm internships?
Like right now i don't hv any relevant skills.
A good way to start is to go and check entry level PM and project coordinator job descriptions and see what skills are in demand - then start learning those one by one
2. also checkout PM courses available on platforms like coursera, udemy, youtube etc - linkedin learning is also really good - start building those skills
3. build some projects for your portfolio - coursera has projects available, google/youtube search can also help with ideas here
4. then build your resume and start exploring internships around the same positions - you can also start applying right away and see what kind of response you get btw
Hey how you are doing in pm can you please tell me?

Hii i am social media marketer with just 1 year of experience and i also want to move forward in the field of project management can i go in this field ? And also suggest me should i go ?
yes you can - its a different field than SMM so you might want to research well and explore how you can open up internships as a PM for you - check Linkedin for job descriptions and see what people are applying for etc.
I m a medical student.. doing MLT. Can I do PMP? And Is it suitable, according to my degree or not?

Heloo shivam, i have done mba and have experience of 5 years in different fields, and having gap of 2 years because of baby planning and all but now want to stat new path woth project management course of Google so will it be helpful? And other than linkdin which other courses or seminar or workshop will you refer to enhance as well for internship which is the best platform?
1. Google project management is a good start especially paired with your experience and MBA
2. I'll suggest start exploring jobs directly even if fresher/low experience jobs in project management - MBA should help get to interviews
3. To enhance skills and understanding, LinkedIn is good and so is UA-cam
4. I'll also suggest start networking or talking to people on Linkedin in general, join project management groups, explore project management community articles on linkedin and start contributing little by little(5 minutes a day is good even)
5. For internships, internshala is good, so is Wellfound(used to be angel list). Even for jobs Wellfound is really good - I would definitely explore wellfound, naukri and linkedin
I am BTech machanical engineering student i want to be a project manager if i do udemy project management course, learn microsoft project and do budgeting course in undemy can i get into project management if i do not do mba.

Hi Shivam
I'm completing my Graduation in BBA next month after the last semester.I'm doing a internship in a music production startup comapny where im learning music production with hands on experience at the same time I'm working on their accounts section ,administrative section and new projects launching of the company,
Interested in project management , learned little bit about it because i have this subject in my semester,
my college and my internship is going to finish in two months ,
can u suggest me a roadmap for my career ,and what is the right time to start with google project management certification?
im preparing for the cat examination from a institution but i dont want MBA right after my graduation.
i want to add some skills and learn from the industry and wants some job experience
please help me out and suggest me with a roadmap plan.
this roadmap from the video should fit well actually.
if you don't want to go for an MBA then a google course + focusing more on PM in your internship and then looking for entry level PM jobs would be your best bet.
Google ka course + linkedin or any free youtube course on PM should be more than enough - what will matter most is your internship PM experience - I would even say that in case you don't have a lot of PM hands on in your current internship, it might make sense to look for a PM internship after finishing this one
PMP cert etc have strict eligibility criteria which you'd fill only with work ex or a couple years of professional degree level education in PM, so best bet is to rack up internship experience and pull up for entry level PM jobs
It will be tough but keep your eyes and mind open for the long run - the salary for a PM right at the start(after BBA) might not be very high since PMs are mini CEOs so a lot of varied experience is expected, but your first job or two shouldn't be about salary today but about what salary and career it will open up for you in 3 years
PS. look for very good brand name companies to work at rather than no name companies or very very small startups

Can you recommend any good institutes or colleges offering offline courses in project management or online certification course that will help me to get in as an intern?
PMP certification is the main one however I'm not sure you'll be eligible.
I would rather build some sample project plan to showcase as a case study, and apply to internships. Additionally I'll suggest talking to people on LinkedIn and your network to explore internship opportunities.
Relying on courses or colleges to get us internships or jobs is not a really good move in 2024.

If want to do Project management from Germany after BS in IR ... Is it worth it to get a job in germant
Germany is a great place to be in for sure - hub of tech in Europe
@@frwrdfast doing MS In project management from Germany after BS in International Relation , is worth it?
if the college is good and you can explore opportunities there - for sure. I'll suggest exploring the college, which city it's in, what kind of opportunities are available in Germany in PM roles where you can match your skills etc. - one suggestion I can give based on the time I have spent in Germany is make sure to spend some time learning German - it will be really helpful setting you apart.
Bhai main 12 class ke bad project management kaise kar sakta hun
Tough hai - its not a field that should be ideally explored without experience at a higher level..but you can check out bachelor degrees which give specialization around project management though
