Don't worry Molly - we all cried when we saw that prom dress in "Pretty in Pink". I saw it in the theater & actually yelled "Y'all made that gorgeous vintage prom dress into THAT?!!"
yeah, I was sitting in front of you. Actually, you talked all the way through the movie. Really annoying and self absorbed. Thought you were so damned witty, too. You weren't. Just loud. And your eating habits - damn! - all the open mouthed slurping and chewing and lip smacking of triple-buttered popcorn, raisonettes, good 'n' plenty and Diet Coke was disgusting.
Omg my friend and I saw PIP at a local theater about two weeks ago too. We yelled and were laughing so hard when that part came on we got shushed by our partners. Hilarious! 😂
Oh that is so relieving to know she hated that pink prom tent I mean dress as well. The polka dots, lace and potato sack waist was just heartbreaking. Still a great movie!
I had the same hairdo in the 80s and a similar hair color and people used to actually call me Molly (one of my many nicknames) and ask me for my autograph…🖋️✨
The designer that did her prom dress in Pretty In Pink did her character dirty. I remember really being into fashion as a young girl & loved her character because she was so relatable in the movie. When she came out in the prom dress for the big reveal, I was so disappointed. But Molly Ringwald is a phenomenal actress so it didn't matter.
I agree; that dress is also cruel to the character Molly played, because she's made it herself and aspires to be a designer. And then we get that hideous dress. Made me sad as a viewer.
I like the choker part. Maybe if they did without the puffy sleeves it would've looked better. But at the same time, I feel like it oddly kind of fits because she's an aspiring designer and doesn't have much money, so in a way it shows she worked with what she had. ❤
What's the word for those diamond cutouts that are supposed to give the waist that hourglass shape? I'm an idiot and maybe I'm wrong, I think the dress was boxy in that way?
@@pamelaolson5614 Then somebody grossly underestimated teenagers, because they would do a way better job than that or if they couldn’t they would have to buy a nice already made. That movie was a mess and it sucked what rich guy and his friends attend public school with poor people and the ending was a reshoot andrew mccarthy had a stupid wig because he was filming a war movie and his hair was shaved and molly was sick with the flu that movie was all over the place and the editing was pretty bad
@Yoyomu205 It happens a lot, actually, that a school district has good programs and test scores so wealthy people willingly send their kids there whether they have to or not. @Yoyomu205 That's a good example, actually. Tulsa in the 1960s wouldn't have been a very big city, really, and there wouldn't have been multiple school districts for the white kids, anyway. Native American and black kids might have had different situations going on, but that's a whole other bunch of societal issues.
back in 1986 she was filming Fresh Horses in Cincinnati around Xmas and I was shopping at Saks 5th Avenue with my mum and I bumped into Molly Ringwald while she was shopping at the Lancome counter. I actually saw her father first. He was up on the 2nd floor and he is blind so I remembered that and then we spotted Molly at the counter. I just smiled. I didn''t gush because I didn't want to disturb her figuring she was there with her family.
I willingly ventured into Julie’s, a truly terrible shop, just to find clothes that were reminiscent of Molly’s clothes from her movies. I haven’t forgiven upper management for their intrusive dressing room policies, but I loved the outfits
Did anyone notice that Molly was basically wearing the same silhouette for the interview that she wore to the Temptest premiere in 1982?! I giggled when she was describing the dress.
SAME!! I was just about to say the same exact thing until I read your comment. With the exception of the premiere dress being all white, it is literally the exact same dress silhouette.
As an Asian immigrant growing up in the 70s-80s, I hated my different appearance and prayed every night I could wake up blonde with blue eyes. Then Molly with her white, white skin, big beautiful toothy smile and that red red hair came on the big screen. She took my breath away. I thought to myself, "Okaaay. You caaan look different and be considered cool, chic and pretty in pink. Gave me hope. Thank you Molly and Hughes!
I loved Molly’s hair in The Breakfast Club! I had short hair all the way through high school with Molly as idol. How on earth did all that time pass so quickly?
She is so iconic!! Love Molly, she had my heart since I saw PiP in the 80’s. The scene where Blaine walks into the record store…omgosh, u know the scene! Still takes my breath away!
Molly Ringwald for me still has - from her films- magic as a girl, as a representative of something important magical fun stylish aspirational - what these days is called iconic. She still gives me something to dream about and I like that.
Me an her are about the same age. An to this day I still watch the breakfast club an sixteen candles an pretty in pink. The songs are still my favorite. I related to your character very much. An when I want to think about my high school days I just watch her movies. Thank you to her for that. Your still a beautiful person I believe inside too.
I get what she’s saying about the Pretty in Pink dress. However, the story portrays her dad, who made very little money, purchasing the one dress for her; the other polka dot dress from her friend. She had to piece the two together. The end result was what I would expect the prom dress to look like. Could it have been better? Perhaps. But I think it’s memorable, adorable, and iconic.
I just love Molly. I am a child of that Pretty In Pink era, and I admire her so much. Those movies are so iconic to me. I am thrilled as a grown up to be following her on social media.
What a fun revisiting of Molly's styles...still so stylish. Can you imagine being a daughter of hers borrowing items (like that purse Molly mentioned)? ❤ You are cool, Molly Ringwald! ❤
Molly was every 80’s girls role model! I watched every movie and knew every line word by word .It’s so cool that my daughters watch her movies now and still can relate! The 80’S movies are a true statement for that decade! I even painted my bedroom pink and got the pink phone! The end of Pretty in Pink was every girls dream come true ! Jake Ryan!
This was so fun to watch! I love what Molly said about how the most important things is how the clothes make you feel - powerful, pretty etc. A really good way to determine whether you should buy something or not.
The DRESS! It was an ‘80s style with a ‘thinking outside the box’ twist. I believe it’s what they (director, producer) envisioned an aspiring teenage designer would create .
Wow. Molly, I LOVED you in that pink dress from Pretty in Pink!!. ALWAYS!!! When the other is turned into this one, I was stunned. It was PERFECT for that particular moment in time and fashion. Completely different and , again, TOTALLY 80's!!!. THAT'S what makes it perfect for that movie!. Personally, it may be another story, but SPOT ON for that moment in time!!!! And, yes, i lived thru that time so, yea, i thought it was spot on!!!
Like most young girls/teens in the 80’s, Molly was THE “it” girl. We all wanted to be as feminine yet slightly edgy and fashion forward without looking like we were trying too hard as she was in our magazines and on our movie screens. Her hair! Her face was so fresh at the time. When everything was blonde blue eyes Barbie doll, she was this enigma we couldn’t take our eyes off of. And come on, the characters are ICONIC. My sister and I went to see her in concert a few years back. We sat centre stage about 3 rows back. It sounds so silly and it took me completely off guard, but I had this weird reality bending moment when she came out onto the stage. She was truly lovely and gracious and so down to earth. She will always have a special place in our hearts. And, totally unpopular opinion, but while the dress WAS odd and slightly disappointing when it was revealed, it, to my mind, made sense for her character and where she was at and it really has become yet another iconic look from that time. So, kinda a win, really.
I loved your hair in the 80s and loved all your movies. You'll always be my favourite 80s actress Molly. Thanx for showing us your beautiful dresses.❤❤
I totally agree about the Pretty in Pink dress - I was 13 when that movie came out and loved the movie, but the clothes, not so much (way too much floral) and particularly that dress.
She did this serious movie wity Andrew Mccarthy and a young Viggo Mortenson the movie sucked it was called Fresh Horses but her acting was good she acted well being serious she could of done more serious roles but hollywood didn't like her and chose Julia Roberts for pretty woman because the producer didn't want molly because he felt she was bland not pretty enough and couldn't act

Yes, it was a TERRIBLE DRESS!!!!
It's the waistline that gets me. I can work with anything if only they'd done something else with the boxy shape. 😢
Yes…hated that dress it was awful!
her hair in the 80's was fabulous.
Her hair in The Breakfast Club looked awesome with her bone structure.

I agree; that dress is also cruel to the character Molly played, because she's made it herself and aspires to be a designer. And then we get that hideous dress. Made me sad as a viewer.

I so agree about the pretty in pink prom dress. I was so underwhelmed when it was revealed ,it looked sloppy.
Yeah, I never got it about that dress especially for the character.
Glad that she feels the same way…even cried. I would have too! 😊
Especially when the vintage dress was so cute before she ruined it!
It waa supposed to be a dress that a teenager made.
