wouldn't a longer shaft allow the clock arm's to travel over the HDD stylus? Very cool project, but I think you created more waste than you saved lol. As HDD's are metal, they can be sent to any metal scrap yard, it's things like monitors that really become a problem.
hard disk drives are made out of some very rare and valuable metals if you just send them in with bulk scrappl the scrap yard will process it as shreddable steel in that process it is sorted out in the end it will still be thrown away instead of recycled that is why you send it to an E-Waste recycling center. My father worked at a plant that processed and steel and aluminum into ingots to be used for production of new consumer guides for 41 years. just because you send something to be recycled doesn't mean it doesn't get thrown away because it doesn't fit exactly into that recycling process.
@@davidmcguire6043 not true, many, if not most, scrap yards will take hard drives, where do you come up with this ? iscrapapp.com/metals/hard-drives/ 90% of the Hdd is composed of aluminum, with a tiny bit of platinum plating on the platter and some magnets and a tiny bit of gold on the stylus. If you have a lot of them (like more than 1000) it might be worth your while to break them down. Most people will have like 1 or 2, and aren't willing to pay an e-recycler that might actually charge you to take them.
G'day Brian, this was really cool, some of my best memories as a kid were helping my Grandpa make something from something else, It is these memories that give me my love of being creative & recycling
G'day Brian, I came back to watch the vid again today asI had a 3TB H/D Die, So I'm off to the Hardware or Spotlight to get a Clock mech to make one of these for my PC Desk 😁
I'm going to make one to go with my new build and new desk build I'm doing just started the computer build do it will be awhile before it's all done. The clock looks cool 👍
Shouldn’t have put numbers on. I think it would have been really cool if there were ticks on the platter, and it rotated with the read arm acting as the hour hand.
So bps actually stands for big penis systems, took me quite a while to figure out. I really dig the thought of reducing e-waste, also the clock turned out pretty cool.
This is awesome. I have a couple of old hard drives to do this with. Thanks for the idea.
Love watching folk that have never played with the internals of a HDD before
Yeah I felt like an idiot
@@BPSCustoms nah mate, we All did exactly the same as you did when it was our first time as well.
Be thankful that you aren't as old lol
Came out great! Now... get some rgb up in there.
You right
@@BPSCustoms EL Wire
Loved it I’ve a few drives to do the same

That is SO cool!Kudos for showing us !
this is so cool. I'm gonna make one I have an old hard drive
G'day Brian,

Was a refreshing digression
i actually really liked this video idea it was something different and i always appreciate that!!!
Me this entire video. "The minute hand is LONGER then the hour hand!" 😆
The minute hand is supposed to be longer than the hour hand, weirdo.

Now to raid the local tip for some old PCs, turn the HDDs into clocks, and make a few bucks at the local craft shop.
Use the hard drive platter(s) as drink coaster(s)
Now make a light of a broken display
Or something with dead circuit boards
For example Linus made a wall of motherboards that's a good idea

Wait is this a BPS perks video? Or a BPS customs video? ;)
69th like! NICE! Love hearing him say shaft lol we are all just kids inside aren't we?!
Nice!! Its 'about time'... :-)
Damn u should of put glue on the numbers little drops great idea execution a 3
