    I feel your cute design is something she'd transition into more after the town accepts her.
    Don't get me wrong, it fits so well! But I feel they made her so out of time period or tradition because she feels betrayed, and is throwing away what she was raised in, "letting it go" since she feels an outcast, and more herself when she isn't tied to the timeline and tradition of the town that fears her

I doubt the work was ever the problem, but the fact that she was supposed to act a role that wasn't herself in front of the whole people. With her secret out, and everyone accepting it, she doesn't have to play a role anymore, even as a queen. She can be her own kind of a queen.

    I think one of the reasons that Disney made Elsa's costume so 2017 prom-like, was because the material that resembles that is very cheap, so they could make dolls and costumes easier, and cheaper. Also, she has ice and snow powers, so they wanted to make look magical, icy, and frosty - basically what most people think of as a magical ice princess... even though she's a queen.

    Although I love Elsa’s dress, I do agree it was way too modern. However, my only problem with your redesign (which was absolutely gorgeous, I’m just hoping to give some constructive criticism) is how warm it looks. I understand the cape and the boots, I thought those were absolutely adorable, but the dress and the gloves especially seemed a little too warm for someone who isn’t affected by the cold and would probably be more comfortable in it than in the heat. Also, frozen seems to have this thing with gloves where they’re hiding their true selves when wearing them (hence Elsa and Hans). I just felt like I needed to point that out. Please don’t see this as rude, I absolutely adore this drawing, it’s just some of the aspects in her character that I think werent portrayed very well

    I think the idea of Elsa dressing like Anna originally was to prove how hard she tried to fit in - and at the end of the movie, she really didn't have to, hence the different fabric choices/less modest/etc. however I do agree that the heels were weird - they may have been added to show that she does things that may not make sense to other people (her coping mechanisms, for example) but worked for her. I did a whole paper in college on Frozen and it's representation of mental illness, so I looked waaay to hard into the movie lmao

      Not necessarily. Depending on how you treat the dyes, you can get a very nice light purple with lycan. DARK purple, however, is another story. Back before synthetic dyes, the only way to get a super rich and dark purple was with tiny shells from the Mediterranean sea, so therefore extremely expensive, leading dark purple to take the second most expensive dye color, right after scarlet, which was called kermes, and was made from the dried shells of a certain type of beetle.

  • @zat1245
    @zat1245 6 років тому +953

    Great video, I enjoyed it a lot and the drawing. But I do wanna say, in defense of the movie, the attire was a writing choice. It symbolized her rejection of her previous self which is why her new clothes were opposite of her old ones. Her old clothes were conservative, tight, calm, and blending. But the new ones were free, extravagant, loud, and attracting. The same goes for her hairstyle. Her tucked-in, well kept hair is change out for a free and wild look that shows off her hair more. It’s her cocoon to butterfly transformation to show she’s no longer going to be this person who tries to blend in, having to be reserved and calm, holding up expectations, and not drawing attention to herself. So every aspect of her old clothes was flipped because they are a symbol of who she was and the flip represents how she has changed and revealed with the clothes how she wants to be. When I saw this scene, the inverse of her look I felt was a pretty powerful message. But you made a really cool look, I just wanted to share my perspective on the subject.

    It definitely bothered me throughout the movie that Elsa changed her outfit to this sparkly prom-dress that completely went against the time period she was in. And saying her ice-magic made it just doesn't make sense to me either. It obviously looks like fabric for the most part. A story about magic or not, Elsa has ice magic. She's not a fairy-godmother from Cinderella. I think Disney pressed the marketing a bit too much on Elsa and they made it way too obvious.
    The idea of ice skates instead of heels actually sounds a lot of fun to me and I love what you did with her hair and the tiny crown. What I would personally do differently is making her design a bit more elegant and snow-queen like instead of the wooly cape and boots. Throughout the story, Elsa really comes off as this somewhat reserved and quiet woman. Cold and distant though warm to those she cares about. I think Disney could have done better with her personality but those traits even somewhat show when she's younger. She is considerably quieter than her sister, who is louder anyway but Elsa just seems quiet and reserved in general to me. The elegance really fits her character in my opinion because she is based on the Snow Queen from the original story.
    I would also not add gloves because I doubt she would ever want to wear them again, considering she was forced to wear them to conceal her powers.

Also since the fabric to her newer dress looks a lot thinner to her old dress, maybe she just froze the black dress underneath that she was wearing?

      Not once were they complaining about LavenderTowne's art Mary. You need to actually read the comment before you say ANYTHING about how they're "complaining". besides, even if they were complaining, it's their opinion, and you don't need to be so rude about it. it would probably be better if you kept rude comments like this to yourself. I get you are defending an artist and their styles, but, being a fellow artist, everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

    No hate or anything, the outfit was great! But I have like 2 “complaints”. Please do not think I am trying to degrade the outfit whatsoever and I am just trying to state my opinion about the outfit. :) So first what I would like to say is, is that if Elsa transformed into this version of her during that epic transformation in the song I don’t think it would be as exciting as it is. She’s showing her true colors and that she isn’t like everyone else, she just wants to be her self and if she wore this outfit I feel like she’d still fit in a lot more and wouldn’t really be different. I may be a year late but I just discovered this channel and I absolutely love it, I am in no matter trying to send hate to your design or you because all of the designs you make are wonderful! I'm sorry that this is long, but I wanted to get my thoughts down about the design!
    I think the comments here aren't particularly helpful. I'm not saying that because they're against the design, but more on how they're presented. There is various "Hate this" or "I like the original better" which aren't good critiques at all. I'm taking a media class so I guess I notice this more often now.
    I thought the design was nice, but I did have some thoughts on it. The original dress was unpleasing to look at because it didn't fit with the rest of the characters. Others have said this was because "It was meant to show that she was different" and I totally get that! But I wish that it was a dress that fit in with the era of the characters. It looked too modern in my opinion and didn't give me a sense of magic when she created it.
    For Lavendertowne's design I thought that she did well in making it seem to be in the same time with the other characters. The thought behind it made since and the colors weren't in your face. I actually really liked the thought of Elsa making her shoes into skates so that she could skate around her castle! I thought that would be an interesting thing to see in the movie since it was a fond memory for her and Anna.
    My problem with the design was that I thought it was TOO fitting. When I say this I mean that I felt the design was too close to what Anna was wearing. While it was practical, I wish that it would be easier to tell that there was something visually different about Elsa beside her bright hair and snowflakes in her dress. I might be twisting my words with saying "I think it fits" and "She doesn't pop as much" So I'm sorry if I'm not making my meanings clear!
    And others in the section had pointed out that Elsa's dress was made out of ice, so it wouldn't be possible for her to use fur or leather in her design. I would make a comment about that was well, but have you seen the concept art of Elsa? They're wonderful and obviously made out of other materials, and it manages to make her fit in with the time yet look different!
    All in all, each design was made with a purpose in mind and I'm sure they're justifiable, with their own ups and downs. I thought your design was nice and it gave a feeling of "Fantasy" like the concept art for Elsa.

    When it comes to Disney princesses' final dress's/designs... Here are a few that have always bugged me.
    Fa Mulan: The color palette of her green dress always felt like it never belong. Like her outfit should feel strong, graceful, but a little manly as well. To reflect on everything she had been through. OR more extravagant, as the savior of China. It just never felt right.
    Merida: I feel like, given she is more of a tomboy type, her main dress could have been designed better. Maybe change partway through the movie to reflect her change.
    Jane: While her dress is meant to be impractical, she's still a smart character. I've always thought, given she's smart and the daughter of such a smart man of the time, she would have made a more practical decision for exploration.... And still have it look impractical, since that was the point of the dress.
    Ariel: For her blue dress in the end, I feel like it could have been changed. Color-wise, I feel like it contrasted too much with her hair and didn't feel special at all.
    Kida: The princess everyone forgets about... Her clothes throughout the story is fine, but I feel like her royal garb doesn't fit in with her tribe of people.
    Although, I'm remembering most of these from memory, so I could be off with some of them. :')

    The design is very good, but I feel like a big part of Frozen's story was figuring out that Elsa didn't have to pretend to be someone she's not. That would be a very justifiable reason why her clothes are so different than the traditional clothes that Ana wears, to give a loud statement that says they're not the same, even though they are sisters.

    I find it interesting how everyone is saying 'you can't make fur out of ice' when Elsa made flowers in Frozen Fever - and the high heels and long cape look like more of a hindrance in the film than a help.Elsa's original dress is a beautiful design, but I agree in that it doesn't /look/ right with the rest of the film. Although it's symbolic of her changing from her society, when she's next to Elsa on the infinite frozen merchandise, if I hadn't watched the film I wouldn't know that they were sisters at all. My point is that symbolism is important, but there still has to be a sibilance to the aesthetic, or it can look confused. I feel like there's a happy medium between both of these dresses that would satisfy everyone. > u> (It is adorable - good job!)

    Your redesign is very cute~ People seem very determined to drive home the fact that Elsa's dress was made the way it was because she's "Not like everyone else", but even so her dress just didnt fit. I too thought she stood out TOO much. She doesnt have to wear flashy, sexy attire to stand out from the crowd. Her hair alone would make her easily identifiable. And heels in the snow? Being immune to the cold or not, they're just to unnecessary. Ice skates and boots are such a lovely idea. Heck the boots can even have a small heel to them! But those kinds of heels she has in the movie are just... They don't fit.
    Ahh anyways, I really enjoyed your redesign and while I can sort of see why people like the original, I personally see to many flaws and faults in it and appreciate yours much more.

      Mynx She just walks on water like it’s nothing. She wouldnt really need to to walk in the snow, although I do like the look of the ice skates better. As really well designed and cute as this is, it really does kinda take away from the whole point of the dress, although I do I agree it looks a little to much like a prom dress (plastic looking bodice and all). She makes it look all warm and cuddly which does kinda take away from the whole “I don’t feel the cold”. Also, the color change (as beautiful as it is) kind takes away from the fact that her dress is literally made out of ice magic. Ye. Still, beautiful and cute design, but it kinda ignores so many of the points the original design. It looks like something Elsa would wear BEFORE she freed herself

    The redesign is nice and really cute, but it does suit Anna a lot more than it does Elsa. Part of Elsa's character was the fact that she was different, which is why visually, she looks so different. It's a visual metaphor for Elsa's emotions and how Elsa feels.
    1. Elsa's dress is a manifestation and creation of her own powers. She can walk around in the cold in heels because she MADE them from her own powers. It's meant to be symbolic of Elsa being comfortable with using her powers. Elsa is literally immune to the cold, which is why she can live in a palace made of ice in the mountains while Anna and Kristoff had to wear full blizzard gear.
    2. They look so different in the end because they're meant to be different. Elsa trying to be a traditional, good princess, is what was causing her so much stress and such an inability to control her powers. At the end, she's much more relaxed and comfortable BEING DIFFERENT as opposed to trying to be the same as Anna and everyone else. Which is why at the end, she doesn't change back into more traditional clothing, because now she is comfortable being different around everyone else. She no longer tries to hide the fact that she's different, she embraces it and doesn't mind showing people anymore.
    3. Eyeshadow dates back to 10,000 BC. The earliest eyeshadow was basically made out of minerals, stones, crushed bugs, plants, etc. All you need to make purple eyeshadow is purple pigment, which could have come from minerals and stones such as amethyst. Not to mention, trade is shown to be existed in the area. It isn't unlikely that they can obtain things from other far away countries.

    It's really pretty. But I just don't think it fits her character at all. Maybe after the movie, maybe. But for the time when she actually made her dress (out of ice) it just feels way too restrictive, even if you removed the gloves. Elsa doesnt feel the cold. So she has literally no need for thick cloth or fur. (I don't remember seeing her breath fogging up once in the movie, like the cold doesnt affect her at all.) And she's spent her entire life completely covered up. I do agree that the shoes she has originally are super impractical though, though I feel like it would fit more for her to go barefoot. Also the crown thing, Elsa ran from her responsibilities, she threw them away with her former life, literally in the case of the crown itself, and I don't think she'd make herself a new one, though again, maybe after the movie.

It's giving more of a message saying, "here's who you were, now you're the same person but in a different situation." Therefore, the dress stayed. I understand the rationale but I think growing up in a society where nobody wears slinky dresses with a slit up the leg, it'd be pretty strange to suddenly design one for yourself. It'd be just as out of place as her wearing like, hammer pants or something else from a totally different era. At least that was my rationale. c: I wasn't thinking about protecting her from the cold so much as being more accurate to the time and place.
      As for the crown, I thought she might want one as she made herself a huge dramatic castle, so I thought she still had a desire to be royal, just in her own way. But again, that was just my interpretation. c:

    I think the reason why her dress is the way it is is because 1; it's made of magical ice, 2; It feels alot easier and makes her feel free since it's more light to wear, which fits with the whole concept of ''Let it Go''

  • @spillingrainbow9998
    @spillingrainbow9998 7 років тому +170

    But why give Elsa warm clothing when she isn't bothered by the cold, I mean that was one of the things her parents made her do when she was younger to hide that she was different.Elsa's hair is that color due to her powers, which in fairness is pretty obvious when looking at her sister and her parents who all have brown or reddish(strawberry blonde) hair, this is also why she is so pale. Elsa basically forsook being royal at the beginning of the movie which is why the continuously cut out lines that referred to her as the queen of ice and snow, she doesn't even refer to herself as such, Putting Elsa in a royal color contradicts the musical number LET IT GO when Elsa takes off her cape that was a royal purple to signify how she was leaving royalty behind and living her life free.Anna's clothes were designed after where the story takes place, being Norway, not fairy-tales. Also the reason Elsa is designed the way she is is because it was to represent that being your self and unique in more powerful then hiding who you truly are. Everything on her after the transformation was made with her ice magic including, oddly enough, her makeup which was the same color as parts of the ice castle; purple. Her and Anna look different, design wise, because they have two different personalities and it was to show that you don't have to look like those you love. Other then that the design was good.

The dress she made out of ice fit really well with the entire frozen ice castle scene.

    Cmon guys, not only are some of you being super rude, but you're missing the point!
    Lavender missed SOME of the symbolism, sure.
    But Elsa could've been "unique" without mysteriously knowing what Polyester, Sequins, and Tulle are.
    It's PRETTY obvious Elsa's dress is made of cheap, modern fabrics for marketing's sake alone.
    (now all the shitty halloween costumes look just like the movie!!1)

    • @leirawhitehart1236

      Look man, I haven't seen not one person dissing her redesign. There are people who disagree with her sure, but most of the people I've seen commenting on here, seem to be very polite, and while they like her redesign, they have problems with it as well in terms of how it doesn't fit well with the story or character of Elsa.
      It's a nice design, very cute, but it really doesn't fit with Elsa. Sure, it fits in with her people, but not Elsa herself, as Elsa doesn't fit in with her people, so I think it's appropriate that her attire reflects that.
      And I'm pretty sure her dress isn't actually made with polyester, sequins, and tulle. At least not in the movie. Sure, her merchandise might be made out of it, but in the movie I'm pretty sure it's just made out of ice. In fact, I'm pretty sure she didn't know what they were per se, but perhaps she invented them? Like, cause look, I think the point of her dress transformation wasn't just to sell merch to little girls (I mean, I'm not saying that *wasn't* a factor in their decision, just that it wasn't the only one) but I think the point was also to express herself, and show off her creativity. So I think perhaps in the movie's lore, she created a dress that was entirely and uniquely her's, and unlike any in Arendelle.
      In short, it's not just a cheap dress made out of cheap materials to sell to children, but it is an extension of herself and her powers. Something she truly owns for the first time.
      And I think that's about it for me. Sorry I made such a long comment to someone who commented almost a year ago, and has probably forgotten about this. I hope if you manage to read all of this and decide to respond that you would be kind, as I mean no harm to you. You have your opinions and I have mine, and all I wish to do is allow you to perhaps see a different perspective.
      I hope you have a wonderful day. :)

      Most of the comments I've seen criticizing her have been very polite. You're right, Elsa could've been unique without those things, her having heels in her original design is strange, and I do think that Elsa's dress should've related more to Norwegian culture. A redesign incorporating that would be very interesting. However, Elsa's real design makes way more sense than what Lavender drew. The crown and the wool that Lavender gave makes no sense. That's my opinion though.
      Also, I don't know where you got "cheap modern fabrics" from, it's an animation. Look up "Elsa Costume" and "Elsa's Dress". None of the costume dresses I saw looked anything as good as Elsa's actual dress.

    Hello! This was a lovely idea and design but I would like to fact bomb you! Please don't take this offensively, I'm just trying to let you know the background info on their costumes. First off, I completely agree with you that Elsa's dress doesn't fit at all. Frozen takes place in Norway. Arendele is a real place (been there) but it's pronounced are, not air. Anna's dress is called a bonad, which is a traditional Norwegian dress that can also be a suit for men (Hans wears one). Anna's dress isn't a fairy tale dress, it's an actual dress from Norway! Your design fits much much better but it wasn't in style to have short dresses (considered scandalous) and they wouldn't normally wear much fur unless on an expedition or work. Especially if Royal... All in all, your design fit much better! Don't take this the wrong way please! Thank you and have a wonderful day! TOODLES!

    • @pippa862
      @pippa862 7 років тому +19

      Yes, this is true! I was going to comment on the Bunad thing, but you got there first. I would also like to point out that all bunads are different depending on where they come from. For example, Bergen bunads are more red compared to the bunads around Ålesund (in the area of Skodje, because that's where I've seen them) which are black. So I think taking inspiration from the bunads of Arendelle (or perhaps Finmark, as they are furthest north?) for Elsa would be a good way to redesign her outfit. Maybe that's just me, though.

    Hey I hate to bring this up but Elsa wouldn't wear gloves. In cartoons gloves represent hiding something or secret intentions. They also very clearly address this in the movie by the gloves as a layer between her and her powers and the the people around her. When she throws the gloves in let it go she is letting go of her secrets and is coming clean even to herself. This is not only apparent in her design but also in hans design. Before he shows his true colors he wears gloves but when the twist happens and he reveals his true intentions he takes the gloves off. Normally I wouldn't comment something like this but I felt as though it was integral as a metaphor to the story and character that made absolute sense. Also I believe the dress and its modern design was meant to be a juxtaposition to the the townspeople because Elsa is different. When we see this we're meant to see Elsa revealing her true nature. The clothes act as a symbol for Elsa. I enjoy your design a lot but I think that making her look like everyone else defeats the point of Elsa's self doubt and eventual character evolution.

She had changed MANY key assets of Elsa and what’s she’s known for. For example, almost every one who’s seen frozen knows that Elsa can make clothing from ice, she changed that, frozen heals, changed as well. I’m very fond of her videos but I just think she changed Elsas clothing too much. Disney also originally had Elsa slated as the villain, I believe they changed the plot part way through the production, so they may have kept her dress as it was (or softened it a lil) to save time or work that had already been done.
      But I totally agree, the disparity between the sisters' designs helps solidify their differences; although I've always found Elsa's makeup was a tad too severe for her, the dress was perfectly /her/, y'know?

    So many people are complaining about or arguing against the point made about how incredibly and strangely different Else and Anna look, and yeah, she changes but she doesn't move centuries into the future people, jeez- and if we wanna keep going down the symbolic route, yes, Elsa's synthetic outfit choice may have been totally symbolic of her change still, transitioning into her freedom, but then she changes once again at the end of the movie to realize her mistakes, and her friendship with her sister, so where is drastic oufit change number two then??

    • @leirawhitehart1236
      @leirawhitehart1236 5 років тому +18

      Is it ok if I disagree?
      I don't think the dress was meant to be like Elsa having future vision or something and predicting dress designs of the future, but rather, my interpretation of this is that, Elsa made a dress that was entirely new to her world, one unlike any other seen in Arendelle. I think perhaps she invented the dress. She didn't base her design off of anything in her kingdom, and just made whatever felt right to her, almost as if on impulse. It was something unique and entirely hers. And for the first time in forever (excuse the reference it was unintended), she had control over her own everything. Her powers, her life, her destiny. All of it was hers, and it was in part represented by her dress.
      And also even though her character goes through another significant change near the end of the movie, don't you think it'd be kinda jarring to have another dress change sequence? I mean, what, is she supposed to change her dress every time she realizes something? No. It's better if it was a one time thing, because that makes it more special. If she were to have another, it would kinda dilute the importance of the scene.
      Plus I'm pretty sure they wanted the dress to be pretty iconic and recognizable, so changing it again might not be in their best interests. After all, when you look at other Disney princesses, the "special dress" is often the one they keep till the end of the movie. Not always, but most times. You don't see kids wearing the dress Bell wore before she danced with the Beast, right? It's like that I guess.
      Anyway, just my thoughts. It's not that her points aren't valid, just that people recognize that the people of Disney had reasons for doing what they did, and are just pointing out things that she may have missed. Heck, there are even some points I agree with her on in a way, but I guess my answer for them is just "magic". Why does she have eye shadow? Magic. Why does she wear heels? Magic. How can she run on ice and snow in those heels? Frickin magic. I dunno, but if you ask me, it actually kinda fits with old folktales, in which some things would be the way they are cause magic. No further explanation.
      So I dunno, but anyway, I really appreciate it if you read this very long comment on a post that you made almost a year ago, and if you decide to respond, please do be kind. I'm only offering up my opinion.
      Please, have a wonderful day. :)

    I think you did a good job! The crown was a really nice touch, and also both culturally accurate and in the original source material!
    Personally, I really wished they would have stuck with a more traditional bunad. But that is probably just because I'm Norwegian..Then again the ice queen for the original tale is described as tall, thin with a long flowing white dress and fur Cape.

    Really pretty but like most comments, not extremely fitting. If the cold doesn't bother her, she'd have no need for clothing so warm and heavy. Perhaps a redesign of Else but in summer Norway clothing? This seems more fitting. I do agree with you not liking her dress and the style being too fantasy based and out of place.

    It's a beautiful outfit.😄
    What I imagined was along the lines of something more regal, like those long slinky gowns they wore in fairy tales. Something on the medieval side, ya know? Especially with the trumpet sleeves. (I just love those!😍)
    Those sort of gowns can be slimmed down, like a spring or summer gown, or fluffed up for the winter.
    Elsa is a queen of ice so she doesn't really need to be have warm clothing like her sister.
    Again, that's just my perspective.😄
    Both the original Elsa and your rendition are gorgeous.

    After I rewatch this video and read the comments I want to note that any artist who can’t take suggestions or constructed criticism then they are over confident with their at pieces. And this particular UA-cam’s does not seem over confident at all. Lavendertowne is probably happy to get these suggestions because people are paying attention to her art. She can handle people who take account into her art.

    I love your videos and your art, but I couldn't help but be bothered by this. As everyone else is saying in the comments already, the cold never bothered her anyway. She has no need for any sort of furs whatsoever. She doesn't need anything to make her warm. You actually sort of contradicted yourself in the video when you said you wanted her to be more like Anna but you wanted to distinguish her more. Also, Frozen was based in Norway, so the dress was actually based off traditional Norwegian designs and not fairytale designs. Part of Elsa's dress design is to distinguish her from Anna. Turning her into this cutesy, almost vulnerable seeming winter girl is contradictory towards everything about Elsa's character. I also wasn't a big fan of this whole idea that her dress needs to be more practical, because (as stated before), Elsa doesn't need her dress to be any more practical than it already is. They live in a world filled with magic. She doesn't get bothered the cold in any way.There isn't any need to change her shoes, add fur, or make anything look thicker. Changing the color scheme I didn't particularly agree with either, because it's too close to her original character design as a villain in my opinion. The lighter shades of blue help make her seem like a good character, while darker tones are usually perceived as more 'villainous'. That also might be why Elsa's villain design had black hair whilst her design in the actual movie depicts her with platinum blond hair. The rosy cheeks and visible breath I found contradictory to her character because (again) the cold never bothered her anyway. The ice crown really, really irked me, though. In Let It Go, she throws her crown away, which is symbolic of her leaving her past and everyone's expectations behind her. To me, there is no reason or logic that she would then create another crown- a royal element. She left everyone's expectations behind her when she ran off to North Mountain. To put it bluntly, I didn't agree with any of your changes. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love your videos, but this video is may be my least favorite yet...

    Anna’s dress is inspired by the Norwegian bunad, it’s the Norwegian national clothing. And the entire story of frozen, the place, the clothing, the food, is all inspired by Norway, arendale is inspired exactly on an really old town in Oslo called “arendall”, and the second movie is inspired by the samme another race in Norway, I think it was inspired by the Norwegian rivalry with the samme, just some facts I wanted to share with you! ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

  • @thancred
    @thancred 7 років тому +11

    I love the art but I really think if it was something like this the movie wouldn't have been as strong? I understand this was just for fun of course but I think she was designed with way more in mind then you might be giving credit. Having her and Anna not look so similar at the end has a strong showing that you don't have to be alike to love someone deeply. I believe her original Ice dress makes her look powerful and gracefully since it's so slick, but personally I think your design wouldn't have held the same effect and she would have had a harder time coming off as a strong and powerful lead. Her design might also still take from the original design of her being the villain and in later stuff she is in a more normal outfit for her time period like in the shorts.

    I love your new design and I think it’s super pretty, but I do belive it would’ve been better suited for an outfit she changes into in the epilogue or a Disney short or the sequel. I think the point is that she goes from all of these layers to one flowy piece because it’s showing her from being all covered up and hiding to being free. I also think it should stay a lighter blue (not the tacky teal they used but a different shade of blue) becuase it’s supposed to be an ice color. I also don’t think gloves would be a good idea, the whole point was that her gloves held back her powers. However, I LOVVE the ice skate idea Sssoooo much. That woudlve been stunning. Other than that I lovvvvee this design. It would be super pretty for Elsa in the sequel or maybe another character.
