- Hey guys! The top request for the next Disney redesign was Ariel from the Little Mermaid! I decided to redo her pink dress in the time period of the original story, to do a more comfortable mermaid top, and to give her modern clothes! I hope you like it!

I remember seeing a post that talked about why Ariel’s pink dress looks like that. It said to remember the fact that the dress isn’t hers. It wasn’t made to fit her, it wasn’t made to look nice with her hair, and it was most likely just something they probably happened to have on hand from a maid or visitors. There was no way they could have made a whole dress for her in the few minutes it took her to change.

A lot of artists out there I know of are really hateful and judgmental to other artists and artistic works. I'm really happy to know about Lavender because she seems to just love art and does it to truly have fun ☺️ she just talks and haves a good time and doesn't smack talk anything, complain, or gossip. I quite like the dress and modern outfit! But the mermaid redesign outfit just doesn't sit right for me, something seemed off. Maybe it's because she wore such a fancy top, but her tail is very plain, maybe add like a little skirt to enhance her princess side.

I agree! It looked very nice, but now that her upper half was fancy, it didn't seem right. Giving her a skirt would have balanced it out.

As a child of the 80's who was a little girl when The Little Mermaid came out... I can say that the original dress was of a fashion and colour that was very very popular among young girls back in the day. If it was BIG, PINK and/or SPARKLED.... it the hottest thing since cable television and we all wanted it (even blonde kids like me that didn't like pink).
That halloween Disney came out with a few different coloured versions of that dress (mine was blue). And just about every little girl that I can recall seeing out and about that year was wearing one colour or another of that dress.
Looking back now I cringe at it...but it was the era of Big things and gaudy colours XD
It would be nice to see a more accurate version of Jasmine's outfit

Maybe next time you could do Princess Tiana from Princess and the Frog? It's a pretty underrated Disney movie. Also...maybe you could recreate the blue princess costume in the somewhat beginning of the movie and possibly modernize the green dress she transforms into during the wedding scene.

I like the way the modern outfit gives Ariel her own type of cute sea theme and overall you did amazing, LavenderTowne! ^^ As a suggestion, maybe Mulan next after the style challenge video and keep up the great work on your art.

I've heard that the pink dress is actually a combination of past Disney princess' dresses (Snow White, Cinderella, etc.) and that her casual outfit (the brown and blue one) was inspired by Aurora
there's a collectable "barbie" doll of Ariel Disney did, called Fairytale Design Collectable Collection. and her dress is quite similar to yours but much fancier for say. I thought that was cute~

This looks really nice! Also if you don't already do this, when you're redesigning the dresses, try searching up the country the story takes place. For example Snow White is German, and Arielle is from Denmark. But anyways, great as always!

yeah most people dont like her because "she left her family and friends for a man" but really, she was always interested in the human world and wanted to visit it, and when she met eric it just made her want to go up there even more
and i could honestly care less if she was a feminist character or not (as long as the movie isn't blatantly sexist) because the visuals and music in the little mermaid are _amazing_
she also reaches for her dreams and doesn't let a simple no get in her way! love is also a beautiful thing, maybe Ariel's dream and goal is to fall in love. The human world obviously interests her so no wonder she'd be fascinated in a guy with legs :)

this is really cute! the blue dress is beautiful and definitely suits the ocean/mermaid theme more, but personally i adore the pink dress she wares... i think it's really pretty even though it's not right for the occasion
I like it, but I wouldn't want to see this in a Disney movie, it feels a little bit too much like fanart (yes it technically is fanart but in these videos I try to imagine the looks in the actual movie)... oops just my opinion passing by

Well, the modern day one would certainly look odd, but the actual blue dress she redesigned for her would be period-accurate (ish)... Plus incorporating things from under the sea, like pearls and seaweed, don't seem that out of place. I remember her sisters had things like that in their hair.

You should draw Moana except instead of her living in a hot climate, she lives in a cold climate and her design adapts to that.

I never really thought Ariel's pink dress clashed with her hair too much. I think it would have clashed more if she had orange-red hair, but since hers seems to be a true red with more pink in it I think it looks fine.

I loved how you redesigned that hideous pink dress. The little Mermaid has always been my favorite movies and my entire life I've always despised that pink dress. When I was very young I can specifically remember watching this movie and climbing up on a chair to reach the fast forward button on the VHS player during the scene when she wears that dress because I hated it THAT much lololol 📼📺😂✌️
