For 40k, it's in the price range of a new or light used Epic -W. I think 6k carbon dragon is still amazing camera, but dsmc2 body will put you in better place to move forward with reds future upgrade. it's just my opinion, congratulation on the new camera.

What matters is acquiring the job from the customer (since he is paying you big & directly) - And for that, good/HQ-gear helps alot and is for that a good selling point. Furthermore you won't acquire any good jobs in the professional industry without some "professional" Gear - because it's the standard, if you don't have it, u arn't able to compete on paper, as simple is that!! In addition u can charge ur customer rent or even rent it to third parties-productions.. The flexibility of owning a prof. HQ-Camera and to be ready to shoot at any given moment without having to loose time and money in searching/renting equipment ist worth gold! Finally REDs an Prof EQ of this lvl (Arri, Panavision, ...) don't really loose theire worth fast - so reselling to a good price won't be a problem - this camera is gonna be amortised faster than u think ;) If he still gets 8 paid jobs a month he should be able to have paid off the camera (500-1k rent per day for a Dragon depending on Country and rig, can be even more!!) after only 5-10 months with only the rent of the camera-equipment, not counting his earnings for his services as xxx ..! So yeahhh - its all about business and money my friend - sry to break ur fantasies...

Crazy how fast technology becomes stagnate. This camera now is only 5k-8k some come fully rigged out. You can buy an arri Alexa now for 4k-12k depending on what you need it for but it's still the same quality. Great time right now for cinematographers 😊

Thats for their cheapest versions which don't have the features of this camera and thats only for the "brain" when you buy the camera their starting price are a certain number but thats only for the housing. You then have to buy all the accessories to make it actually usable like the camera monitor, batteries, memory cards, handle, etc.
Being such a bad business man and being here in southern Europe I would need like 2 lifetimes to be able to get one hahaha.... Seriously! Glad you worked your ass to treat yourself with that Lil jewel!
I am torn.. as much as I would love to buy (and more so have the money to buy) a RED, the new GH5 with a good lens and the Atomos rig is a fraction of the cost and puts out really high end video quality. What is your take on a hobbyist who would like to get into doing some DP work at some point using something like the GH5 with LOG output to the Atomos in ProRes? I have spent a ton of time on comparison videos and while the RED and even BM have slightly better dynamic range (and shoot RAW vs 4:2:2 10 bit), I dont see a huge difference in the quality of the videos when the right settings, colors, etc are applied in post.
If you can afford it, RED all the way. It *crushes* the GH5. With that said, there's also cameras from Kinefinity, which provide RED-ish quality at indie-ish prices($4-8k).

If you paid 40K for this no matter the hours you got robbed blind, Epic's with a dragon sensor second hand kitted out on RU go for 10-15K. Not sure why you didn't buy a DSMC2 also..?

i own Arri Amira from the age of 27...this red in 6k its crop...so...i want that 35mm look on 200fps..RED it's croped in 200...that's why i hate RED...and you can't compare a RED to an ARRI...simply you cant...
Regilio Bouma as a DP your not keeping the footage unless you want to. The editor is going to need to HDD space. Also you can transcode the raw files to another codec for storage after your edit is done to save space.

I bought a Dragon about a year and a half ago. Hate myself for doing it. You can get a super similar image from the Red Raven for about 30k cheaper.
