OK, I've heard about this anime but never got to watch it until now. The style is not exactly the same as in this opening (a mix of Anime and American Comics) but it looks very beautiful, nonetheless.
I was hoping I could change to the Japanese dub in the settings on Disney+ and hear this theme song in the new X-Men'97 series. But that option doesn't exist. I really hope the Japanese dub gets this song.
So far the best upscaling of the intro I've seen, but the AI really does make a bit of a mess in places, especially that freeze frame at the end, *ugh*!
Yeah AI up-scaling STRUGGLES with zoomed out vintage animated frames. At that point its better to train a diffusion model on close ups then touch up those by regenerating those zoomed out frames on higher resolution. Basically giving diffusion AI models creative liberties to reconstruct details that are missing.
It looks really weird to me, especially compared to the original, everything looks so unnaturally smooth. I'd rather an actual remaster or HD uploads of the original film scans or something. This just kinda made me sad. is this going to be the future of HD or remastering older film? Stripped of it's artistry and care and cranked out from machines?
@@lynn6760 I'll agree with you on the far away shots, but not the upclose ones. Those look great. There are higher quality versions of these intros from Japan that I am surprised no one has uploaded.
They are drawn and animated so perfectly; especially the women... Specifically, Rogue. X-men 97 needs this level of detail. Japanese animation is the best in the world. I loved the work that was put into 2011's X-men Anime series.
That's absurd. _X-Men '97_ looks ten times better than this. X-Men is originally American and looks better animated by American studios. Not every animation needs to be redone as an anime. Animes also don't convey Americanisms very well either.
lol seriously? How many animes do you know with good animation instead of showing a guy speaking at forefront with a shade over the mouth every time they have the chance? Yes, I have also watched Attack on Titan; one of the main exceptions.
@@LordMellington1668 Lol seriously? do you have a common sense? I never said anything about anime, I was only talking about the animation. you do realize that X-Men animated series first 2 season only have a around 13 episodes right? so they have enough time to make a better animation. and since you want to compare this to anime, you do realize, that these american cartoons have bigger budget than most anime back in the days right?
@@karlluigi1987Yes, I have common sense. The animation of this opening is 100% anime opening style, and therefore my comment. Anyways, it looks more than cool. I admite it.
@@LordMellington1668 Thank you captain obvious! Everybody already knows that, the title literally said japanese opening. the whole point is, if japan can make this type of animation back then, then an american produce cartoon, shouldn't have trouble having the budget to make an animation like this.
The AI Upscale on this is so bad. Characters become literal mush once they enter the background. The Japanese text in the forefront is also horrendously just destroyed. Even where characters are supposed to shine as they enter the foreground, the backgrounds are just absolutely gone. What is the point of upscaling something if you just ruin it? The original version might be blurry, but I'll take that any day over this.
You're right. The video overall looks great and clean. But they are few shots where the images look warped/distorted. The AI seems to have a hard time rendering smaller faces. It's quite noticeable if you slow the video down or pause at the right frames. Pause and look here: 0:08 Magneto's head disappears. WTF? 0:14 Jubilee's face 0:16 Wolverine's face 0:18 Jean Grey's entire body. WTF? 0:27 Cable's Face 0:41 Storm's face and Rouge's body 0:43 All their faces look way off. 0:46 Omega Red's face was fine, but the further away it got, the worse it looks. 0:53 Wolverine's face and left arm, and Omega Red's face 1:12 Gambit's face 1:21 Even at normal speed, the faces look messed up especially on Beast, Professor X, and Rouge. Despite all these oddities, I think the rest look amazing! I wish the whole animated series had this art style.

Okay the original English opening is amazing, but I wasn't expecting a Guilty Gear music video for the Japanese intro. Pretty cool. I was expecting some super power-of-friendship, cheesy pop song for some reason honestly. (Seriously though, this sounds so much like a Guilty Gear track)
This is great and better at selling it as an action series but it’s not as good at portraying the conflicts and characters. The imagery is less meaningful.
It legitimately upsets me that people think "remastering" now is just "slather horrible smearing noise reduction on it and coat it with gross, image warping globs of AI generation". This looks unbelivably, disrespectfully awful and downright hideous, and yet so many ignorant people in the comments are praising this disgusting mess.
This is not a good remaster. It smears everything and loses more detail than it gives, which is especially obvious in the scene with Omega Red and Wolverine.
The most 90's US intro deserved the most 90's Japan intro
Perfect comment.
They made Beast an actual beast! That earth-shattering punch.
Literaly, He´s a badass "Hulk" here.
It's almost insane how well the animators understood the assignment! Cable! Omega Red! The Brood! It's like they *actually read the comics!*
if there's one thing from Marvel that Japan loves, they love them some fuckin X-Men.
As they should, as everyone should.
And also Spiderman
@WesleyWyndam-Pryce the story and characters of the X-MEN is one of those things I genuinely feel the entire world can't help but admire
When it comes to animation the Japanese are practically the Authority on the subject matter.
The original X-men cartoon was animated by a Japanese studio. All they did was *BROADCAST* this to Japan
All Japanese do is 4x the labor for less pay. Korean or Chinese animation is just as good. Actually its superior
My cousin told me about this and I didn't believe him, until I saw it for myself. My jaw was sore for days from it hitting the floor.

If the Japanese get X-Men '97, they need to recreate this intro with updated characters and stuff.
Well, considering that the original series was a massive flop in japan I doubt they would use this song.
