The secrets to CG method... silicone based shampoo and conditioner. Silk protein leave in products. After 35 years of managing curly hair, having big hair in the 80's and still today at age 50, this is the minimal routine, silicone based shampoo, conditioner and silk protein leave in product, plus air dried hair.

Hi, I have been following the CG method for nearly 2 years now so have a couple tips! When you apply product, you want your hair to be wet (soaking if you can), I find that gives me the best results with little frizz. Gel or Custard is great for reducing frizz (my favourite is cantu custard)- it forms a cast (which doesn't feel nice) but then once it is fully dry, you scrunch out the crunch - essentially crunching your hair until the crispyness has gone, but as the product is still there it helps hold the curls in place. One last tip, if you have thin fine hair, you want to wash your hair once a month with a chelating shampoo/ one with sulphates. This helps breakdown build up, my hair is prone to this and therefore the curls get weighed down over time. Hope this helps anyone who wants to try it! (also once you have styled, avoid touching your hair until it is dry, this helps reduce frizz!)

Cantu products are surprisingly affordable in the UK now aren't they? I buy the massive bottle of conditioner from Superdrug and it's something like £7.99

    • @WonderV76
      @WonderV76 3 роки тому +23

Yes to all of this! I actually apply all my product in the shower. This is easier because I can bend over and scrunch things in upside down. I wash as usual, then scrunch in my conditioner and leave it while I do the rest of my washing, shaving, etc. Then rinse that, upside down scrunch in leave in conditioner, stay there and do my curl activator/curl cream, then gel. If I want to have extra hold, I sometimes also scrunch in a bit of mouse. Then scrunch with a towel to get the excess water out and roll up into a micro fiber turban. It IS a ton of product! What I have learned is that I don't really need as much as I thought at first and have backed off so it's more comfortable. When it's dry, just scrunch the crunch out and your hair is soft and flowey and amazing! I kind of squeeze the dry hair from the side versus the bottom and that seems to keep the curl clumps in order and the frizz down. I have been doing this for over a year and its a LOT of trial and error. A UA-camr I love is SWavyCourtney and she gets into a lot of the science which helps a lot. Good luck, Girl!! 😘😘

@@WonderV76 i apply all mine in the shower too, means you can add more water when needed too! I actually wet plop first in a shower cap once all the product is in - I have very low porosity hair which means it takes a while for it to absorb the product, if I scrunch with a tshirt straight away all the product comes off again so the act is pointless on my hair! 😂 I need the volume so I scunch from the bottom to give it the helpful frizz!

Some tips from a curly girl!
Apply product on soaking wet hair! Leave in conditioner, curl cream, gel/mousse in that order. Start at the ends and work your way up, use a wet brush or Denman brush to help distribute the product evenly. Emulsify your gel (vigorously rub it between your hands for 10-15 seconds) this will make it so you need to use less and will help activate certain ingredients in the product. Once your hair is completely dry, if there are any crunchy pieces take a tiiiny bit of oil on your hands (Jojoba is my personal fav) and gently scrunch out the crunch!! Loved this video and I hope these tips help some of y'all 😁

As a studying biologist I get so triggered whenever people say “no gmos” as a positive thing. Without genetic modification, we wouldn’t even have broccoli or kale. Genetic modification is largely done to make crops pest resistance or consume less water, aiding in sustainable farming. GMO is also done to make crops have higher vitamin and mineral content.
The demonisation of genetic modification holds back the future of sustainable farming.

The anti-GMO movement should be about Monsanto and glyphosate, but ppl just go wild and think its all bad.
Unfortunately if it's not "non-GMO", it might contain high levels of glyphosate, which is why I, personally, avoid a lot of GMO products.
BUT I understand fully that the problem isn't genetic modification itself, but the fact that Roundup can be used on GMO crops.

    • @jednrrp
      @jednrrp 3 роки тому +41

PS. The modification to resist pests can a lot of times involve putting glyphosate in the seeds, which is bad. They also modify seeds so that they can't be bred to produce viable next gen seeds, requiring farmers to re buy seeds every season which is pretty wack. Again tho I understand the difference between the practices used with GMO and the benefits of GMO itself

one more tip for all: Ellbat has haircut for straight hair. Curly hair has to be cut and layered differently to reach full potential. In my experience not many hairdressers can do it properly and they just give you a wrong haircut with the best intentions. Anyone who decides to go curly should look for a curly (maybe cgm friendly) hairdresser, but once you guys get a curly cut, straightened hair won't look so good.

    • @gwenchase97
      @gwenchase97 Рік тому +1

@@lemonbread3585basically the haircut is a lot more layered than a normal haircut. Especially on the crown of the head, hair are kept shorter, and go from shorter to longer. Think of it as a sort of mullet, but with sensible lengths, where the differences in lengths are not so obvious that it looks weird. If straightened though all the layers that normally look great, come out and make the shape look a bit off, mainly because you see all this shorter pieces that come from the crown and there is a visible disconnection in lengths from the hair over the years and the hair under that are usually kept longer to provide length. I don't know videos or pictures to show you, though I hope the description I offered helps.

I have been doing the curly girl method for over a year and my frizzy, wavy-ish hair turned into beautiful curls that feel healthy and wonderful. Here are a few of the things I do for my hair in response to the questions in this video:
    - I always apply my products(leave-in conditioner, mousse or curl cream, and gel) to my hair when it is soaking wet. I brush the products through if my hair is knotty and then scrunch or I just scrunch them in.
    - I use a shampoo that has sulfates- but not silicones- once a month. I do this to get rid of any buildup in my hair. My favorite clarifying shampoo is Bumble and Bumble Sunday Shampoo.
-I deep condition my hair once a week. I brush and then scrunch the conditioner into my hair, then let it soak in for 20-30 minutes while it's still very wet.
    - I "plop" my hair(wrap it up in an old cotton t-shirt) for about ten minutes after all my products are applied.
    - My favorite CGM brands are Treluxe and Bounce Curl. My favorite individual products are Matrix Biolage Hydrasource Conditioner, Aussie Instant Freeze Gel, and Pantene Defined Curls Mousse.
    - curlmaven.ie is the best CGM blog I've found, and Swavy Curly Courtney is an awesome UA-cam channel for CGM.
    Hope this helps anyone!

Great video! And your hair looks great too.
My tips from a fellow wavy/curly girl would be:
    1. Your hair seems to curl better, when more water is in it. Try applying your products while it is still wet and maybe add some water throughout styling. (You can use a water spry bottle or simply wet your hands while styling)
    2. Be a bit more careful with your hands while styling. Don't run your fingers to much through and avoid ruffeling your hair while it's still wet. That creates frizz and will effectively make your hair less curly.
    3. Let your hair COMPLETELY dry before crunching the gel cast out. That way it goes away without leaving that weird feeling of product in your hair. It will be softer and more smooth.

Yeah I do not like the CGM community, although there are other parts of the curl community (non-CGM) that are great. After caring for my curls for nearly 10 years now, I think that CGM is a good starting point because it helps correct a lot of damage, but over time it’s not the best method because your hair will get too healthy for it. On a related note, the creator of CGM doesn’t like people calling their routines CGM when they vary from the CGM guidelines.

      Hair isn't dry. That's a myth.
      Moisture causes frizz.
I mean you yourself say to stay away from glycerin because it causes frizz.
Glycerin works in a way that it attracts water (moisture) from the air and that makes hair especially frizzy in humid weather because the hair strands swell from the water and that raises the hair cuticles.
Plus it gets puffy because the glycerin makes hair "move" towards water in the air.
The way to take care of curly hair is by coating the strands with conditioners rich with oils and fatty alcohols (especially fatty alcohols) to the best of your ability and helping those cuticles lay flat by preventing the moisture from entering hair.
      That makes for defined curls.
Water (moisture) is necessary only to reset the curls via hydrogen bonds after they've been straightened or after the wear and tear of your daily life (waves fall flat easily, they need refreshments by spray bottle to help the hydrogen bonds form again).
What makes hair feel soft and "moisturised" isn't an increased moisture content in the strands.
It's the oils from the conditioner which are smoothing the hair shaft and its pH level which is helping the cuticles lay flatter.
But there's a lot of weird misinformation out there so eh.

Hey I’ve been on my cgm journey for almost 2 years and all the tips that the other people said are great, but I’m sure that this will help you a lot: you’ll get a better end result if you’re applying the product on soaking wet hair, AND keeping wet until you scrunch them for the last time. I suggest you to apply the leave in first, comb through gently, then a light gel to keep the curl, re wet the hair (I use a spray bottle), apply any other product like mousse or cream or more gel if you need and make sure that the frizz is minimum by wetting the hair more and scrunching lightly just with your hands, then use the T-shirt for scrunching the remaining water. Lastly plop in the T-shirt 💕💕

About the crust after the gel - you can scrunch it out when the hair is completely dry, if done gently it doesn't affect the curls, but removes the feeling of too much product. As for the straight locks - that's completely normal, the curls are not distributed evenly across our heads. I know that my left side locks are more straight than the locks on the right. So if it bothers me, I can take more time scrunching or diffusing it. Your hair look similar to mine (more on a wavy side), so when choosing the styling product, you may want to choose the ones with more hold and curl definition, 'cause waves are more eager to lose their curliness.
I've tried curly girl method more than a year ago, and eventually abandoned most of its rules.
Rule about no-sulfates shampoo is a dangerous thing to promote. Shampoo should clean your skin, and it doesn't matter if you have curls or not. I happened to have a really greasy skin, I used to wash my hair every other day for it to look clean. And non-sulfate shampoo didn't do the job for me, after a couple of weeks using it my hair kept itching no matter if I used shampoo once or twice. Back to sulfates - and nothing bad happened. If your hair are particularly dry, but non-sulfate shampoo doesn't work for you, good idea is to pre-condition the hair except roots, then shampoo, then condition again.
Also I stopped layering a lot of products, I use only 3 products in one wash now: shampoo, conditioner, hair gel. No leave-in, no hair creme, etc.
    What really worked for me:
    1) taking time to distribute the conditioner and adding water to make sure that all the locks are slippery. I realised I never conditioned my hair properly, a lot of hair was left out of the product.
    2) Always using the styling product! It turned out, that good conditioning + styling make my hair grease-protected - so now I wash my hair once in 3 or 4 days when my head is itching, and not every other day because the hair start to look dirty.
    3) Different techniques of scrunching, drying the hair. Denman brush is a fine tool
    4) Brushing the hair. I stopped brushing my hair dry. I brush the wet hair every day though, after the wash or prior to the refresh, it helps me evenly distribute the hair gel & I found it results in less frizz.

loved this vid! a few CGM modifications which helped me that i think you might like:
    1. styling on more wet hair as opposed to damp hair and seeing if it works for you
    2. if you're okay with leaving your conditioner in for around 5-10 minutes, then take two hair clumps and twist them together and leave it that way for a bit, helps saturate the product & encourages the hair to curl
    3. with the hair cream, apply it by glazing it over the hair and then maybe use a wide-toothed comb to distribute the product. the gel, i would reccomend trying to pat the hair with it rather than raking it through your hair (the latter tends to disrupt loose curls a bit)
    4. what you're doing with scrunching your hair w the cotton tee works great. just do that and leave the hair alone after that to air dry and then scrunch out the gel cast once it's fully dry!
your hair is beautiful and im excited to see anything you choose to do with it 💕

Huzzah for great results! Things I learned after a couple of years of doing the CG method: there's a war on between the wavies and the curlies. OK, exaggeration, but there is definitely a spectrum, where what works for one texture may not be the best product or method for the other. Also, haircuts can make a big difference; wavies do well with lots of layers so the extra length doesn't pull out the curls, where curlies do better with more of a uniform length so they don't wind up with triangle hair.
You also went into it with an advantage, as you were already used to showering a few times a week instead of every day. Daily shampoo people have a transition period that can take a while to work through as their scalp gets used to not being bombarded with sulfates.

Ooohhh, loved the video! I started looking into CGM when someone pointed out my hair was quite dry, and I realised THAT'S what was wrong with it, I now have a head of curls! I don't follow the CGM really, but I've been doing this for just over a year, and have just had to pick up and drop techniques that worked for me. I'm quite comfortable now washing my hair every couple of days, scrunching in a leave in conditioner, wrapping it in a tshirt for about 10 mins and then adding gel and sometimes diffusing, but it's quite often dry enough by that point to not need it.
I think your hair looks amazing! only thing i'd say is to be more gentle with it, the rougher you are the more frizz you get. So, gently rake the product through and then scrunch it up, no rubbing either. And add product and style when it's as wet as possible. But yeah, looks amazing!!

What made a big difference for me was applying my product(s) on SOPPING wet hair, combing it through, and scrunching (leaning every which way, to both sides and then upside down) while still very very wet (my hair always makes squelching noises while scrunching it, thats how i know its wet enough) before scrunching again with a t-shirt to dry it. Your hair will curl the best when its very hydrated, ie wet, so its a really great option to get your curl pattern settled a bit before your hair has dried at all. Also it doesnt hurt to sparingly use the twisting method on troublesome curls (:

Important to do a final wash with a sulfate shampoo (and then silicone-free conditioner) the time before starting with the sulfate-free shampoo. The sulfate shampoo will remove any silicones left in your hair from your old conditioner. It's also important to note that most people will go through a "transition" period where their hair has to adjust. This can take weeks or even months for some. Next, keep in mind that many of the techniques and product application methods pertain more to people with level 3 and 4 curls. For those of us in the type 2 category (you are likely type 2), it's important to remember that we do better without heavy curl creams and handfuls of gel (usually - though everyone is different!). And if your hair is easily weighed down or gets greasy, leaving in some of the conditioner may not be right for you. You may want to give mousse a try instead of the curl cream. Personally, I've had really good luck with the Not Your Mother's Curl Talk line of products - the defining cream, mousse, and gel are all great, as is the shampoo and conditioner. One or two styling products is usually enough. Also, try not to RUB your hair when using the t-shirt. This can cause frizz and tangles. For better volume, you may want to try flipping over and scrunching upside down. Lastly, you may want to use a clarifying or gentle sulfate shampoo occasionally (once a month or so) to remove any buildup. In addition to Manes by Mell, I recommend checking out India Batson and Swavy Curly Courtney for great tips and techniques - especially for wavies (type 2's). Sorry for the LONG post - those are just some of the things that helped me a lot!

Hi, I have curly hair too! I've seen others answer some of your questions, but I wanted to address the inconsistency you were seeing in your hair. Hair, especially curly, is just kind of inconsistent naturally. The curl pattern is unlikely to be exactly the same all over your head and that isn't your fault! Personally, the hair on the back of my head is straighter and frizzier, and the front bits are also like that usually. That doesn't necessarily mean you've done anything wrong :) applying product evenly and trying not to touch your hair too much can help but sometimes it just is what it is

having flat/straight hair at the front: means you heat style the front so it cant curl because it's damaged,
the solution: do a monthly protein treatment and deep condition twice a week.
having flat/straight hair at the side: means you sleep on that side more often,
the solution: sleep on a satin pillow case or with a satin bonnet and always put your hair up in a pineapple bun (i prefer to do it loosely, but it can come off in your sleep)
also note that because the hair only curls to one direction, on one side you'll have curls towards your face and the other side will be away from your face because they either curl only to the left or only to the right. for some people with finer or less hair this will make your hair look unsymmetrical so i reccommend doing a side parting because it doesn't define the middle of your face so the hair doesn't need to be symmetrical.

I have wavy to curly hair. I have to say that I was not aware of the CGM until very recently, and was curious about what it entailed... Well, what do you know, I was already doing some of the stuff they recommend. However, I find that what you see online with the method is too much effort for my personal taste. I wash, I condition, I put my post-wash product (can be just an oil, can be leave-in conditioner, can be styling mousse), scrunchy-scrunch with a cotton shirt (or with a towel because I'm a barbarian) with my head upside-down, all the hair to the left, then to the right, let air dry while scrunching a bit if I feel like it, and let my hair live its wild wavy to curly life.
And my hair is voluminous and pretty and I like it xD
Also: you can have different textures throughout your hair. For example, my hair naturally goes from slightly wavy (at the back, near the neck, where it's the longest) to beautifully curly on some strands. And of course, the shorter the hair, the more textured, so my front sections are always curly.

  • @nursiev
    @nursiev 3 роки тому +1

Hi. We have similar hair texture and curl pattern. Tips: you want your hair to be soaking, sopping wet when you apply the product. If you have already towel dried your hair a bit, even a small amount, your curls will break up and it will look like stringy strands of hair….this is what gives bad results. When it’s soaking wet and you apply the product, you get much better results. Next, put a small (very, very small) amount of product on your fingers and rub your hands together. Then, before putting on your hair, put a tiny drizzle of water on your hands to dilute the product just a bit. Place a flat hand under your hair and another flat hand on top of your hair, sandwiching your hair between them. Run your hands down to apply the product. Add small amounts to your hands and keep applying until your hair is lightly covered. Now apply to your hands again and start scrunching your hair. Do slow scrunches though. Meaning this: your hair should still be sopping wet. If it’s not, wet it a bit. Scrunch up your hair and hold it in your palm and squish it over and over (like you’re making a fist and squeezing over and over). This gets the product into your roots so you get more root curls. I hope that made sense. Then I scrunch with a T-shirt or something to get the excess moisture out, being careful not to break up those curl clumps. The bigger and fatter those clumps are as they dry, the better curl you’ll get at the end (they won’t stay that big and obnoxious when they are dried). Other tips for our hair type: I know they say to leave in the conditioner and whatnot, but I don’t get the best results when I do. My hair is too fine and just the weight of the conditioner can weigh down the curls and knock them down. Try different products until you find the best for you. Good luck!

there’s no need of espicifically doing cgm to have nice curls. my fav curly youtube, manes by mell taught me how to take more care of my wavy/curly hair. from my point of view the cgm is too complicated, and by some well-done styling and haircare (using para en, sulfates, silicones) you can get as well curls.

    • @katherinemorelle7115
      @katherinemorelle7115 3 роки тому +2

I personally prefer silicones, because I flashed my hair with bleach, and I need that silicone coating to keep it from being an absolute mess. Also, all that “clean” marketing makes me roll my eyes and not want to buy the product. It’s completely unscientific.
I used to cowash and do a curly girl type method, using only my normal conditioner as leave in conditioner, plopping, then just leaving it to dry naturally. That worked really well for me, and I didn’t need any other products, though if I wanted extra banging curls I’d use the LYS leave in product (it’s a small Canadian company, and the product is wonderful).
I ended up stopping because I had trouble washing my hair properly (cowashing can take a lot of really working on the scalp) due to disability. And I decided I really wanted to grow my hair, so as it’s grown it’s less curly. I tend to just put a lot of conditioning products in it, then braid it or plait it. I spend most of my time in bed, so I wanted something comfy, and that won’t birds nest my hair.

I also pile my hair on the top of my head and wrap in a t shirt to partially dry for about 10-15 minutes, then scrunch hair products into wet hair. I also really recommend trying a diffuser bc it was a game changer for me. The weight of my hair didn't pull it straight that way.

Tip from me is that I wet my hair every single day in the shower. I only use shampoo and conditioner around 2 times a week, but I have very thin hair and I find that most of my curls flattens out when I sleep. So every morning I take a shower and I get my hair wet so a can put a bit more gel in when I get out of the shower and scrunch it again. Just a tip that might help some people with the same hair-type as me.

I considered the CGM but I didn't want to spend money on buying all new products, so I settled for a curling cream and started to plop my hair in a t-shirt. It worked for a while, but my hair is finicky. Curls need moisture, but if mine have too much then they get weighed down. I'm bad at keeping up routines so I now just add what I feel like. Occasionally diffuse, usually air dry. Sometimes put product in, sometimes none. Sometimes going all out makes my hair super voluminous and defined and sometimes it does nothing, so we go with the flow.

I ended up chopping a good think of my hair off to embrace my natural curl. I'm very thankful that mine don't need too much maintenance. But it took me about... 5 years to embrace my natural curls.

While showering you can take a wide toothed comb, meant for curly hair, and after applying the conditioner, slide it through your hair to distribute the product evenly. I just use my fingers.
Then I take the hair and twirl it loosely on the top of you head with a clawed clampy thingy (forget what it's called), to allow the stuff to really soak into the hair.
Also when rinsing use lukewarm to rinse it out.
    After shower.
When adding product to your hair try loose prayer 🙏 👐 and gently slide sections of hair through you hands. When you reach the ends gather the hair of that section and scrunch up. There is a method called plopping which is kind of what you did with the hair shirt. Instead what you'll do is lay the shirt flat on any surface 'I use my sink.' Make sure the bottom hem is towards you. Face down and hair falling forward. Allow the hair to gather on the shirt. Then wrap the towel behind your head oneside over lapping the other and tuck in the end. Like when you wrap a towel around your body.
Taking the bulk part of the sleeves closest to the armpit or shoulders and you'll kinda roll the shirt under and toward the back of your head essentially you'll be rolling your hair into it or kind of creating a buble or lose pocket where your head is gathered then taking taking sleeves tie it on the front of your head.
Boom you got a cool shower hat. Yer welcome.
Let it sit and dry like that for a bit.
Note: some find it easier to distribute products through the hair wile it really wet while other like it more on the damp side.
A good jell that doesn't cast or if it dies you can scrunch the hair which will break up the crunch (love this part but I'm an odd ball) and it leaves the hair nice as well I use a custard as apposed to a gell. Essentially they both hook the hair but I prefer one of the other both smell wise and feel.
And yes the more you play with your hair the more the curls come apart = frizz over relaxed or floof and poof.
Ps just Google it the hair clawed clampy thing is infact called a "hair claw".

Never tried the curly girl method, but here's what I've learned with naturally curly hair from experimentation and youtube:
-how you cut your hair matters! Having layers will help some parts of your head curl better because gravity isn't weighing the curls down. However I'm not sure how layers look with straight hair, so it might be a bit of a gamble if your hair is inconsistent due to it not being naturally very curly. Also with the back being straight, that's just how curly hair is really. The back usually never curls the same as the front.
-I sleep with a silk bonnet and pillowcase. I love both, but the silk bonnet saved my ass even more than the pillowcase. It's amazing. I cut my hair super short now and it fits under the bonnet almost perfectly, so I don't have to flip my hair upside down to smush it in. I can now go a long time in between washes, like 4-5+ days, when I could only go 2-3 before, and it's very quick to fix. Just ruffle it a bit, put whatever product you want, and go.
-I use a microfibre head wrap to dry my hair for 10-15 minutes after a shower before I put anything in my hair. I know the cgm says to put product in while sopping wet, but I don't like doing that personally. It also helps give volume because it's not weighing the hair down with water. I've also used a cotton towel but I like the microfibre head wraps better because they're meant for hair.
-I own a Denman brush but now only use it to fix parts of my hair that turned out weird, rather than curling it before putting anything in it. I used to do that when it was long, but it never turned out well because it looked too unnatural with the curl pattern.

My hair used to be borderline curly, and one day decided to kill every wave and just become flat. So I'm definitely giving this a try.

Long time curly girl here. You're doing well. You mentioned that diffusers are expensive, but Boots has a Tresemme hairdryer with diffuser for £23.49. You'll probably want to use one in winter. I know some people are saying to put products on soaking wet hair. That doesn't work for everyone. I put products on damp hair and that works better for me. If you're using gel, don't forget to scrunch out the crunch so your hair loses the crunchy-ness.

I stopped using shampoo a month ago and have just been rotating between using tea rinses, micelar water, aloe juice and apple cidar vinegar rinses (usually a concoction of all of them) and my obnoxious flat frizzy waves are now becoming silky smooth bouncy curls! It's amazing! I don't even have to condition anymore!

The tip with avoiding shampoo is to have other stuff to replace it. Having a good co-wash + revitalizing sprays (I like the Sunday2Sunday ones), allows you to get far more time between co washes and then eventually using shampoo. I don’t think that using shampoo is bad, but cutting down definitely was great for my hair

You can use mousse as an alternative to hair gel to seal in the curls since both products have alcohol. There’s also alcohol free mousse it’s less damaging to the curls but usually more expensive.

I knew it!! I noticed your hair in other videos! I love it and I'm so proud of your results.
I'm not a full curly girl but I steal a few techniques alongside some inspiration from the LOC method. I use a sulfate-free salon shampoo and conditioner. Then I throw in LUSH SuperMilk as a leave-in. I scrunch with my fingers as I apply, as you did near the end (though I also like the praying hands method🙏 and have had great results) and "plop" my hair with my tshirt (for me, it's easiest to pop my head in the neckhole and wrap the rest around my head and tuck near the nape). I leave that in for 15-30 minutes, depending what time I can afford, before scrunching in LUSH Curl Power. Honestly I hate the feel of too much product in my hair, so I'm going for ALL the moisture. Anyways, this is me. Just wanted to leave some tips for anyone interested, though as Elena said, there's Tons of info to be found.
Super glad you tried this, Elena. I noticed your hair looked way healthier when you lopped your hair and it's just been looking better since. Rock it and have fun!

So my hair pattern is similar to yours. After washing my hair I’ll put leave-in conditioner in and brush it with a denman brush. Then I’ll add gel to my hands and scrunch it in. I’ll scrunch out excess water and then plop it for only about ten minutes and after that I’ll Air dry 😌 tips: products in soaking wet hair, and be very gentle not do disrupt the curl pattern you have when the hair is wet. Meaning: no rubbing oder shaking
    Hope this helps 😊

A fresh trim helps and product weighs down... I've always scrunched after washing with a light layer of hairspray before scrunching... Healthier hair is bouncier but truly curly hair is genetic or achieved through heat/chemical products...
Your hair looks gorg! It's healthy so it has bounce... Scrunching and adding air while it dries (usually with alcohol containing products) is the trick!
    LOVE your videos!

Washing your hair upside down or when applying product you pull the hair away from your head can help curl the other pieces.
If your hair gets frizzy and you don’t mind it, use a mousse (John Frieda) it is way lighter than a gel and doesn’t make my hair as greasy as a gel does. Hope this helps 💚

I have been doing the curly girl method for about 3 years now and I'm just going to give you some tips and tricks I've learned... first you want to have your hair soaking wet when you are applying your creams and gels... I would recommend you section your hair into 2 sections when applying cream... then use the praying hand's method on your whole head to apply a soft to medium hold gel and then scrunch... then apply a hard hold gel using the praying hands and scrunching method... then use a diffuser and hover it around 6 inches away from your head for about 3-6 mins ( high heat and high speed) ... until there is a cast on your hair. then turn the diffuser down to low heat and speed and bubble your roots and dry them all the way around your head.. then you can air-dry your hair making sure to flip your hair back and forth without touching it to each side so that it creates a lot of volume... then for night time make sure to sleep with it in a silk bonnet or a pineapple with a silk or satin scrunchie... btw this is just my personal preference doing the curly girl method for 3 years and just what I have found helps... you could also get a denman brush and use that to define your curls... and also make sure to only brush out your hair in the shower when you have conditioner and when you get out of the shower with soaking wet hair... just some advice... good luck

If you can get your hands on a Denman brush it is very helpful in defying your curls. Another thing is by using a diffuser which along with the Denman brush can give you very defined and voluminous curls. One thing with the gel is that when it goes crunchy you need to scrunch out the crunch until you hair is soft. The best way to get the right method is to keep trying new things and stick with what works. I've had curly hair all my life and I am still finding new ways to improve my curls.

Hi Ellbat! love your sense of humor. I made sure my hubby and daughter checked out your channel. ps-my hair has one side that curls and one that is straight. I think it's related to the moon's gravity. That heavenly celestial body just pulls and pulls and flattens my hair.

Don’t forget to cleanse your hair with a haircleanser bc you will have build up from the products etc that’s also important to keep in mind

yes if you play with your hair you pull apart the curl pattern.
also, dont lie on your hair!
    while sleeping tie a bun,
wrapping your bun with satin scarfs can also reduce frizz-on-wakeup

Went CG last year and echo people on scrunching out the crunch, applying products when hair is super wet, and praying hands method. Essentially you are trying to keep the curls in their families and not disturb them too much - so try not to fluff and rub the products in as much. Will help with frizz. I was also having the flat top issue and now “plop” for ten minutes with the t shirt. Then I air dry with my top layer of hair piled on top of my head (held with a clip). This helps the curls dry in their curled up position and prevents the top layer from being super flat.
Also - transitioning to CG takes time. Your hair will continue to curl better over the next few months if you continue

    1. You need more water when you scrunch in your gel, so scrunch the water off after you applied gel, not before
    2. If you get your hair hard you need to scrunch out that crunch
    3. Be gentle with your hair when it's wet, the way you manage it creates a lot of frizz so your curls are not as defined
    4. Don't just co-wash your hair as oils and butters can build up on your hair and cause hair loss and permanent scalp damage. Co-washes are great for coily and extremely curly hair. You have looser curl pattern so don't just co-wash please.
    5. If you use sulphate free shampoo on a regular basis you need to clarify your hair with any clarifying shampoo once a month to wash any build up potentially created to avoid any further issues with your hair. Follow up with a deep conditioning treatment.
I have quite a few videos on my channel that you mind find helpful as I also have looser curl pattern and our hair needs slightly different treatment.
Also: AAAAAAA!! YES, finally you tried it! Welcome to wavy/curly/coily community

I totally feel you! i started my curly girl journey in april and with every product i try, every shower, i try to adjust one thing a little bit, so i end up with the perfect routine for my hair
The word "journey" really nails it, because it is a long way
Right now, the Only BIG downside to the CGM is to me, that after the first day, they always tangle so much, that i cant even get through with my fingers.... on day two i often give in and brush them, and then they usually just PUFF up and never come down again.
I am looking and trying refreshing methods, because i dont want to wash my hair more often then every 3-4 days.... Hopefully i will find something good soon, it really bothers me XD

The crunch is the cast that helps the curl stay - but once it's dry you scrunch out the crunch to get rid of the crispiness!crispness!
Also try scrunching from the bottom up more, you seem to be grabbing wherever and squeezing randomly, but think of the curls like a stretched out slinky. Put your hand under the bottom at the end of the hair, and lift it up towards the root to coil up. Like a slinky going from stretched out to condensed small. Or like a victory roll rolling up from end to root. I hope that makes sense!

Curly guy here with some tips:
1.sections, sections sections, working in sections will allow you to adjust the amount of product in each section because we have different textures In our hair that might need a slightly different amount of product
2.deep conditioner once a week will not only give your hair moisture, if you use a protean hair mask it might help in reviving your curls when you're transitioning because you were using heat on it the hair is damaged and needs protein to help rebuild the cuticle.
    3. If you hate the gel but still need some hold without weighting down your hair try a hair mousse, scrunch it in gently you will be golden
    4. Get a trim, getting rid of split ends and damaged parts of the hair will allow the curl to bounce back and look more healthy, I say a trim every 2~3 months is good.
5.try styling with a denman brush
Get a section of hair after you apply the leave In and brush it away from your scalp to create volume specially at the top then try to diffuse upside down or using clips to hold your hair for maximum volume.
    6. The greasenis is a reaction from your scalp, you were using sulphates wich was stripping your natural oils away so the scalp reacted then by overproduction of oil to substitute the lose but when you suddenly went to sulphate free shampoo now your scalp produces more than it needs it will adapt at some point.
    Hope this helps💙

Ok. So what I do is.... brush my hair before washing it. Once it's washed, I don't brush it. I finger it *ahem*. Then I mix a curling creme like Charles Worthington or an organic one with Pantene mousse for curly hair. I finish it off with L'oreal hair oil. I leave it for 15 mins to let it absorb. Then I diffuse it. I have to dry it. My parting is on the left so I diffuse it by flicking the hair on the right. Or dry it upside down so I get a lift on the roots. I don't scrunch it at all till I feel it's dry and a tad hard. Once dry, scrunch it with the hot hairdryer upside down. If you have straight bits, tong them. Finish off with L'oreal Elnet lacquer.
You could try drying it halfway and then having plaits and leave them overnight. You must alwaya use mousse though.

Yeah I had the same problem with gel at first (especially because I didn't brush it out first so I had that weird frizz halo with crunchy ends) but when I got into diffusing I realised there's a healthy medium - enough to coat really wet hair (aids product distribution) but not so much that it leaves a greasy sheen after scrunching and fluffing with a diffuser (or your hands if you're a wild one) hope this helps with future curly exploration ily dude :)

When I say my hair is exactly like yours, I mean EXACTLY like yours. Dark brown, semi curly/wavy, I use the same routine even before seeing this, and I have the same straight patch towards the front that looses curl first 🥲
