  • The New Dalek Paradigm were created in the aftermath the Time War and tasked with restoring the Dalek Empire to the universe. But what is the in-universe history of these distinctive, multi-coloured Daleks?

    As a paradigm lover, I think the paradigms were extremely underused and had a ton of potential, look at City Of The Daleks, that was brilliant!

      Exactly, it's pretty clear these were to replace the existing bronze Daleks. They were never intended as an officer class until certain fans took a dislike to them.
      It's a shame the BBC just gave in and pushed them aside to continue using the same old same old bronze again. It would have been good to try something new.

      I remember City of the Daleks... probably the best Dalek story of the 11th Doctor's tenure. (and I don't just say that because the adventure games were created in my home of Sheffield)... Such a lot of pointless hate they got. I LOVED the Paradigm Daleks to the point where I'd go into my local Forbidden Planet week after week to see whether the Eternal and Supreme figures were in stock to no avail... I was hooked on those colourful Daleks, sure they looked like Smarties but they had an actual intricate hierarchy compared to the predecessors which made them interesting. Anything Dalek with variants is interesting. Especially when each one is a different livery.

      No, as they are, they were still overused, considering how absolutely hideous they look.
      Cheap plastic toys. Power Rangers. That's what they are. Just like the whole of 10-13 seasons, they are willfully forgotten and kept away from headcanon.

    One thing I can praise the Paradigm Daleks for to no end is that it meant we finally had a persistent Dalek Empire in the Universe again. They couldn't keep coming back, being wiped out, and just one or two escaping conveniently.
    I like to think that "Dalek Command" that was mentioned in Eve of the Daleks was made up of lesser commanders and generals who took over when the Paradigm leadership was destroyed, although I like the idea that the Eternal survived.

    I like to imagine what to the Paradigm in canon is that another Dalek Civil War broke out. This has always been my dream storyline, seeing a Dalek Civil War with the Paradigm ever since I was 7, after visiting the Doctor Who Experience. In that version of the experience, the Paradigm Daleks were attacked by faction of Daleks that called themselves The Children Of Davros (using existing footage of The Cult of Skaro from Daleks In Manhattan).
    A story idea I’ve had since I was 7 is that The Children Of Davros were other survivors from Journey’s End who viewed themselves as being Pure Daleks as they were grown from Davros, the last Kaled (from which the Daleks originally mutated from) and that after seeing the Paradigm, they saw them as impure. How they survived, I don’t know. Maybe the same way Davros survived as we never got an answer to how Davros survived. Maybe Davros built more of them after his escape from The Crucible, maybe they came from somewhere else & rescued him?
    All I know is, judging by the sudden disappearance of the Paradigm Daleks & the more caring nature the Daleks have for Davros in The Witches Familiar, I think The Children of Davros won…

    • @darkhumour741
      @darkhumour741 Рік тому +1

      Not necessarily. Losing the war doesn’t have to mean they were all wiped out.
      Davros faction may not have even needed to fight for Skaro…
      According to expanded media (Dalek: The Astounding Untold History) the Paradigm “spurned Skaro” once the parliament was established

    • @ItsButterBean1020
      @ItsButterBean1020 Рік тому +2

      I like the idea that after the Paradigm ditched Skaro and the loss of the flagship on Trenzalore, the Children lead a rag tag army to establish a beachhead on Skaro, with Davros seeking the Regeneratioj energy as an advantage against the “Paradigm Remnant” 😊

    I'd like to think the Eternal is still knocking around in some corner of the universe. If any Dalek can truly understand the overwhelming threat posed by the Doctor's standard pulling-a-rabbit-out-of-a-hat strategy, it'd be the Eternal. The boi probably stepped out a side door right before the final fight over Trenzalore.

    • @dalekbumps

      I think you're absolutely right, and that's exactly how I'd characterize the Dalek Eternal if I was writing its follow-up story. I think the Paradigm Daleks and the Eternal specifically would be great villains for a cartoon-style spinoff aimed specifically at kids, as the colourful Paradigm Daleks could do their own thing and not interfere with the stuff the actual Dalek Empire is doing in the main show and its other potential spinoffs. It makes sense that the Eternal would have the inexplicable ability to always show up again next episode regardless of what happened, sort of like how the Anthony Ainley Master did in 80s Who.
      By the way, love the name/pfp, I also adore the Ambassador-class, it deserves more recognition!
      It's the perfect blend of the Constitution-class and the Galaxy-class, two of Starfleet's best ship designs.

    I have a great idea if they ever decide to return! This starts with the Eternal Dalek being the only survivor of the original paradigm and was tasked to rebuild it but as a separate faction far away from the other daleks.
    It took control of an entire planet and rebuilt the new paradigm. Though this the entire paradigm return as they were meant to be, their ultimate goal is to unify the entire dalek race under one paradigm.
    This would be a great source of content for another dalek civil war, imagine two dalek races battling it out over who is more pure instead of the usual pure daleks destroying impure daleks.

    When they first introduced the Paradigm Daleks, I wasn't a fan... I liked they were taller, I liked the more menacing look, The idea of Ranks was good as well... But they were underdeveloped!
    And what makes it worse... There is SO MUCH THAT IS GOOD WITH THEM! Like many, I bemoaned the Big A$$ on them... But if the BBC had not wanted to be so secretive about them, I don't think anyone would have moaned as we would have known WHY it was there! Something MANY have bemoaned for DECADES... The Plunger Arm... The Paradigm Have SPARE ARMS that they can switch out... Stored in the Rear Casing! Claws, Blowtorches, Extra Weapons, and such... WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA! Just a shame it was NEVER BLOODY SHOWN!
    No, The only Dalek I have HATED so far has been the Recon Dalek from that New Year Special... Not that it was bad... Oh no, The idea a Dalek Mutant build s anew Tank Body... GREAT! I loved everything about that! That is what a Dalek would do... Not, It was the Dalek Mutant being THE SIZE OF A BLOODY KAIJU!
    How the Sam Hell would a Recon Dalek be essentially MORE BLOODY POWERFUL THAN EVEN THE PARADIGM???
    I have to concede that the Paradigm were wasted... There was so much potential and they blew it!

    I get Moffat was probably trying to get the status quo of the how back to how it was in classic, but I always found it messed up that the Doctor just... doesn't seem to care that the daleks have an empire and are free to roam the universe presumably killing millions of people.
    Remember what a big deal it was in the RTD era that even one dalek was allowed to roam free? How it would wipe out entire cities. Supposedly the Moffat Doctors still hate the daleks and recognize how dangerous they are, so why aren't they taking any proactive action against this?

    So, while the New Paradigm Daleks did not get to experience a lot of on-screen airtime as their predecessors did, it could at least be said that they rejuvenated the crippled Dalek Empire from behind the scenes, playing the long game to make sure they wouldn't be wiped out as they almost were at the Medusa Cascade.
    While I was not a fan of their designs for a long time, these designs could work if given a few tweaks and a setting appropriate to their appearance, such as if Doctor Who crossed over with another sci-fi or adventure series.

    According to Doctor Who: The Visual Dictionary, metallic red Daleks are called drone commanders, which I assume is the same rank as Dalek leader, Dalek commander, command Dalek and blue Dalek leader. I believe the bronze Dalek officer in "The Time of the Doctor" is a rank called squad leader.

    I think the Paradigm Daleks could have been decent if they where shorter cuz the operators / drivers said the extra bulk made them hard to work with, or just not moved about too much.
    Their colours could be made more palatable, like they all have a unifying colour and their rank colours as a secondary colouring for things like the ear bulbs, eye colour, the hemispheres and maybe some other highlighted areas,
    Would mean that they would need to change some of the colours cuz red, orange and yellow could be too similar, make Eternal Purple and Scientist Green that way nobody gets mistaken for anyone else.
    Either that it could be that the different ranks had unique casings but that would be too expensive.

    • @Phoenix2312
      @Phoenix2312 Рік тому +1

      Back in Classic Who, That is EXACTLY what they used to do... Simple Case Repaints! The idea of making them taller was because - Well, Daleks are a bit short! but much of the extra bulk was that ASS... But that Ass had a function... Never shown on screen but the idea was that they had Extra Arms and Weapons stored in the casing that could be switched out...
      ... Now if the BBC had not been so secretive about that - I think fans may have taken to them better!
      Though I do agree, The casings could have been Better Designed, Or at least Lighter for the people having to operate the damn things!

There's the Supreme Dalek who's coloured pure Gold with Silver and Bronze Adornments and large slates like the Red Supreme from The Stolen Earth and a light up eyestalk like from Planet of the Daleks, The General who has the Supreme Dalek colour scheme from Resurrection of the Daleks and is Female, The Elite who is white, the Engineer that's the Asylum of the Daleks Strategist Blue, The Inquisitor who is also Dark Red like the Drones from Asylum of the Daleks, the Time Controller who is purple, with rings around the grate section and has a time isolator counseled inside his sucker-claw. The Strategist who is the same from Victory of the Daleks, The Geneticist who is green and also female, the Scientist who is the same, The Eternal the same as well, and the Drone Commander who is like the Steward and officer of the all the Dalek Drones and their Troopers.

    Ultra spicy take, but I really liked the Paradigm designs. Yeah they felt a bit power-ranger-y, but maybe a more metallic coat of paint, and them only being relegated to high-ranking positions I think is best. I never really understood the hate for the little hump on the back. I feel it didn't really take away from the Dalek design that much. One of my complaints of New Who is how monotonous Daleks are. It's always the same bronze color, and while they look great, it gets a bit tiring when they've been using them consistently for almost 20 years now. Old Who had them in slightly different colors throughout the series depending on the story. I'm not suggesting a total re-design of them, but just some different colors every now and then would be nice.

    I think it could have been handeled better. Maybe keep them but change them into renegade grey/black colours like you did in one of your short videos of a toy Paradigm Dalek and they deploy them in situations were normal bronze drone units can't handle, and pherhaps introduce a new Paradigm Special Weapons Dalek. Or like in Rememberance, have a Dalek story were there are two factions, Bronze and Paradigm factions fighting each other and either the bronze Daleks can also have a SWD too. Introduce New Who fans to a classic story.
