Honest question: As someone trying to be a serious filmmaker, why do you jump on the UA-cam vlogger trend of holding transmitters or microphones? Why not just rig up good audio in a professional way if you're going to talk all about the film industry and gear and expect to be taken seriously? Such a lame ass trend.

It’s quick and easy and gets the job done. It’s just a simple raw vlog in his van, no fancy lighting or anything. It’s all about context, this video is just about the value of what he is saying, as long as he is well audible and visible that’s all that matters in this context.

UA-cam is not that serious. This video isn't a short film, it's a quick piece to camera that doesn't need to "mask" that it's a video. Also, why bother rigging up mics in a van, when this works and sounds fine for the platform?

“Rigging up mics”? It’s literally a 3 minute lav mic through the shirt. I shoot a lot of interviews and to me this is just people trying to be cool and trendy. Guess what though, I bet you he spent 20 minutes lighting it.

@@JedCamara But that doesn’t explain the other videos holding the rode transmitter or people holding their headphone cord near their face. I’ll give a pass to influencer vlogger types but anyone who considers themselves a filmmaker should not get this lazy. It’s such a bad look.

@@phoenixprjct thing is when it’s a simple UA-cam video who cares? I guess you do, but most people including my self really don’t care, if I’m watching a UA-cam video it’s for the information or entertainment. You’re right though it’s a trendy look for social media sometimes like when Peter McKinnon does it, but it’s also perfectly functional for UA-cam so why not. Most people aren’t using their UA-cam vlogs as a portfolio of their professional work. Obviously if you are creating a video for a client then of course mic them up properly, which I’m sure most people do when they aren’t just creating a UA-cam vlog.
