Thanks, we've been testing and coming closer n closer. Actually got it right with 1 but the monkeys got to it before I could pick it. So excited I've got about 20 coming out in the next night or 2 at the most. Will definately cross pollinate.

great explanation. Do all pitaya varieties whether pollinated or self-fertile produce fruit or are there some varieties that only produce flowers?
I normally put a rubber band around the end of the flower to close it up

1.if it is self sterile, i have to pollinate from a different flower. (either different variety or same variety or from the same stem but different flower)
2.if it is not self sterile, then i can use its own pollen to pollinate the flower?

Yes, I had to cross pollenate all of my flowers this season to set fruit. I tried one with it's own pollen and it failed.

Thanks, you want to grow 2+ varieties to use the pollen from another variety to cross pollenate. You will get bigger fruits in my experience.
I'm curious if you cut off all the pollen so the bees can't get to it why do you need to bag it up?
So if a moth or bee comes with pollen from a foreign source it won’t contact the stigma

Yes, You can refrigerate the pollen from another variety's flower.
How long does fresh pollen last not in the refrigerator? Or how long does pollen last in the refrigerator but not frozen?
I leave it on the counter for 8 hours to dry and put it in little air tight plastic containers. It stores in the fridge for 2 weeks.

Usually whatever else is flowring that night. I like Paul Thomson's hybrid pollen, American Beauty or similar, and Sugar Dragon or similar.

Yes, using pollen from a different source
It looks like you are brushing the pollen on the stigma of the pistil. Would it help to use some kind of compressed air similar to a computer keyboard air cleaner to blow the pollen down the style closer to the ovary?
This has been 100 successful for me so far. I bet it would work.

Yes, most likely. Sugar Dragon and American Beauty tend to be one of the first varieties to bloom and are self fertile.

Don't give up, get some pollen from another variety! Anyone else grow near you?
If you know the name of your dragon fruit, you can google or ask dragon fruit forums for self fertility or not.
True, but there are some errors in the group posts and online. Try to cross pollinate everything you can.

Condor has been reported to be self fertile, but I have not tested it yet myself.
