The challenge with traditionally designed trellises are wood rot or metal corrosion; your finely executed solution is brilliant. This DIY dragon fruit trellis is exactly what I was looking for, an added bonus is its affordability. I cannot wait to start this project. Thank you.
Where do you live? Here in California the schedule 40 pipes and fittings are not that cheap in fact you can build a wooden one for less money…another thing why put so many pipes at the bottom there is no room for the plant and the mix….maybe just put two pipes crisscrossing and secure them with zip ties to the bottom of the pot….apparently this guy has so many of them specially the big ones…
Luckily i accidentally saw you video since i am looking for long time for diy dragon fruit trellis and i admire it for clean, sturdy and easy to built now i can started my planting hobby thanks..
Glad to here, your the first one that said that you followed every step. Did you see my comments for replacing the tie wrap to stainless steel wires. If you don’t have stainless wires, you can use steel coat hangers.
You’re a genius🤙🏼🤣 I started planting Dragon fruit but I haven’t built the proper stand. This one looks sturdy, very clean and secure. Thanx for your tips and for this great video.🏆🤙🏼💪🏼
Just finished building my first dragon fruit trellis using your design, I added some concrete dobies to anchor it down more since I couldn't find the concrete cylinders at my local home depot. But most likely I'll attached to the second dragon fruit trellis for added support like what you did on your other videos. Thank you for sharing this!
With this design it has endless possibilities, just use your imagination and change adapters as needed. Please watch ua-cam.com/video/-4CQYRYmkPg/v-deo.html.
Thank you for the sharing the excellent design. I am getting components for the first trial unit. However, I will go for schedule 80 PVC pipes and connectors. The vinyl fence post will last for very long time because it is UV protected. The PVC pipes and connectors are not meant for above ground and exposed to the sun. They will degraded faster than the post. Hopefully, schedule 80 will have a longer life.
Great stuff, thanks for sharing. I was able to save a bit of $ using 4" drain pipe vs the the square fence post. I just had to trim a bit off the 4 way connector to allow it to fit in the pipe.
After seeing your comment, I went with round drain pipe as well because they cost so much less than the fence posts. They even come with 2 rows of precut holes as a bonus. Just finished building my 1st one last night. Got them at Home Depot and cut the 10' in half. Thanks so much to both you and Tung
Very clever idea and great use of PVC pipes and fittings. Thanks for the sharing this brilliant design. Since this is built once and use forever, would it be more permanent to screw down the connection points with stainless steel self-tapping screws? zip ties will break down due to UV.
You can always replace the zip tie. If you want to use stainless steel wire. You also have to realize that the dragon fruit will grow and cover the sun from the zip tied too
You are genius to think ang figure out how to make PVC pipe. You can make a great business doing that. Make a set of that and sale it to the public. It's pre cut ready to assemble. Most Dragon fruit lovers Ara women. We don't want to hassles to measure drills holes. I will buy just to have fun to grow dragon fruits plants and watch it climb up and bears flowers into fruits.. PVC pipe is more durable with woods. I love your invention. Think it seriously!!! Good luck!!
Desighned to last… most DF growers have no idea … how long dragon fruit can grow or how large they can get… may I suggest to use at least a 25 gallon tube … if you can find a 30 gallon I’d use it … They will get top heavy and topple over in a strong wind… the height of the trellis is perfect at 5 feet. As they grow and the top becomes harder to manage … just use an old tee shirt cut in strips … attach a larger flat washer 2” to one end of the tee shit strip wit one overhand knot … do the same on a DF branch and train it to hand downward… watch some UA-cam videos by: Kim Phan Dragon Fruit For great self pollinating varieties…
If you are going to mass produce this. I recommend that you find a drill bit that can drill to fit perfectly to the outside diameter of the PVC tubing. That will save you lots of time.
Also would you suggest adding gravel or rocks to maybe the first 6-10" inside just the column for drainage and base support? I just purchased the pvc so building soon.
What kind of PVC is safe for food grade since par to it will be buried in soil? I think this PVC setup is cheaper and easier than Cedar or Redwood for posts and boxes.
@@chrinarai I have mine right now at 14 inches right now. These are custom size depend on your how big your dragon fruit tree is and how much shade you want to cover. The longer the more shade.
@@TungPham-sv3yw sorry to bother you again, but do you fill the big post with soil when you do these? I'd assume yes, up to the level of the pot soil, it would be great to hear what you do though. Thank you!
This is great, I built mine 4" round drain pipe but forgot to fill up the dirt inside. I like your top but I don't think I'll do the extension for shade since I can always move it to the shade area to keep thing simple. I think if the 4" round drain PVC pipe is strong enough it will cut your cost by half since it's only $10.
@@TungPham-sv3yw just wondering how long have you been using your PVC trellis whether it can support it when the plant is mature since most commercial growers use concrete post.
The cost for one each 8 foot long post is $23 in which you can make 2 post out of it. The post life span is over 20 years. Production is depends on what type of dragon fruit and how well you take care of it.
The post is very sturdy. I don’t see any issue. You can also change the top cross member from a 45 degree to a Tee fittings like in my video (ua-cam.com/video/-4CQYRYmkPg/v-deo.html) and add four more tubing for support. With this support, you can turn it into a greenhouse or protection from the cold weather.

Harbor Freight sells stainless steel zip ties in packs of 25 or you can order them online in packs of 100. Your design is good. I'm wondering if the grey pvc might be stronger and more UV resistant?
Build the base first and install in your pot. Fill the fence post with soil. Then attach the top structure. Filling in the soil after the assembly is very tedious because of the small openings. BTW, what are the endcaps for?
