My favorite tofu right now, is to freeze extra firm, thaw it, press it, then soak it in pickle juice. Toss it in poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. Then air fry. Girl, you got you some chic-fil-a! 😂
I just used shredded tofu to make my “meaty” pasta sauce. Combined it with chopped mushrooms, chopped red bell pepper, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Then I added my favorite seasonings and pasta sauce and OMG…it was so good. ❤❤❤
Yessss I eat soy almost every day too. I make a copycat chipotle sofritas often! Dr Greger’s videos on soy and protein changed how I view this topic. Asian communities have eaten soy for centuries and are some of the healthiest people in the world 🌱
You really made me a tofu beliver. I'm a texture person and I never like the feel of it on my tongue. Now I'm enjoying because of you. Thanks Shakayla keep the recipes coming ❤
🎉😅Oh Shakayla!! Thank you so much for this, girl. You rock the VEGAN, PLANT BASED, VEGETARIAN, ALL THE VEGGIES, BOAT!! I really appreciate this as I try to become more plant based. As with my illness and my blood type, which is type A+, a plant based nutrition is better for me and less inflammatory. I do not know how to thank you, but I hope and pray the best for you and your family!!🎉❤😅😊
This was super informative and I definitely appreciate this video. Now I need to try shredding tofu. And thank you for giving that disclaimer about tofu being safe. People love to come to the comment section and police other people’s diet, exercise routines, cooking styles, make-up routines, etc because apparently they know everything lol 🤦🏾♀️
Thank you for breaking this all down for me. Now I truly understand what Tofu is and the difference types of Tofu. I am starting to take notes. LOL!!! One step at a time for me. Thank you for sharing.
Shakayla, have you tried a tofu pot pie sauté in a skillet in a little olive oil to lightly brown then continue as to make a chicken pot pie I use poultry season and a little ground sage add a top crust of your choice. It is so delicious you will love love it! You’re welcome 😜
Found your channel last week when looking for raw vegan recipes & you did you raw vegan challenge. I'm not doing that yet it's just something I've been exploring off and on. As someone who doesn't enjoy cooking much I SO appreciate your practical recipes and videos. Thank you!
Just tried your tofu scramble recipe for the first time, and OMG! So good! I added what I had on hand- sun dried tomatoes, Swiss chard and plant based mozzarella. I have a weird thing about textures so I put mine in a burrito with some guac and honeyyyy 🤌🏾 chefs kiss! I’m struggling with the crispy tofu though 😅 haven’t frozen and thawed yet, wanted to see how I felt about it right out the package. It’s not for me so I’m excited to see how it goes with the thawed tofu
Thank you so much for this video! I just found you and am so happy! Not only are u plant based I like how u read the labels and try to cook as clean as possible! I’m transitioning and it helps to see someone do the same as me! Will definitely try the shredded tofu! Thank you
This video was GREAT! I’ve been trying meatless Mondays lately and have found myself on the struggle bus with what to eat. I did a tofu scramble this week that came out pretty good despite not having the kala namak. I’ll be trying all of these recipes! Thanks so much for this, you blessed my spirit!
I REALLY NEEDED THIS VIDEO ABIUT TOFU. Im 7 mos Plant Base and havent cooked any because I wasn't sure how to go about buying and understanding the differences of Tofu. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH
This was great, Shakayla. So many awesome tips. I've been using tofu a lot more, and I usually freeze it. Recently I discovered a "fried chicken" sandwich recipe using super firm tofu. It was my first time buying it. I absolutely love the recipe. I make several, flash freeze them and pull them out of the freezer and air fry them whenever I want one. Delicious!
You're SOOOOOO beautiful and SOOOOOO convincing. I think i'll your recipes on extra & super firm tofu. Thanks for sharing your recipes. Blessings sister.❤❤❤😋🇯🇲
Thanks so much for this video!! I tried tofu once and it was really gummy ! I have a thing about certain textures, so I said tofu wasn’t for me lol. I’m going to give it another try with your suggestions! Praying I like it! 🙏🏽🙏🏽😅
Thank you 🙏🏾 for this video my eyes are NOW opened.. can you do a video for jack fruit. I really want to start using it for chicken. Lately I only buy the curried one from Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods 😊
I love tofu but have never tried shredding it. I do a tofu scramble fairly often but I'm interested in trying your version (I use all the same seasonings but never added black salt and curry). The other two recipes also look delicious. 😋
The protein question from people that insist on eating animal corpses is so irritating. As soon as someone finds out you don't eat animal products all of a sudden they become a nutritionist. 🙄I act like I didn't hear them or walk away. After 12 years I just became tired of explaining myself.
I’m soooooo over “Where do you get your protein?” People who say that are probably eating too much fat, sugar, etc. and where we get our protein from should be the last of their worries
I just don't know what to eat anymore. All I seem to eat is plain tofu and fruit. I have a tiny kitchen live on disability and live in Wisconsin. I am bored with food right now and feel like giving up. Oh plus I'm on w.w.
I am always amazed by the view that tofu and other minimally processed soy products are so bad for us here in the US. There are literally billions of people who consume such products regularly in other places on this planet. And most have a longer average lifespan than Americans.
I’m using extra firm tofu…I grate it but when I cook it…sticks together and looks more like flat tofu scramble …it gets dried out but it’s not crispy like yours…what I doing wrong????
If you get a chance, try it out with super firm Tofu! I normally get mine at Walmart, Kroger, or wholefoods. That tends to work better for the shredded tofu in my opinion
My favorite tofu right now, is to freeze extra firm, thaw it, press it, then soak it in pickle juice. Toss it in poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. Then air fry. Girl, you got you some chic-fil-a! 😂
I have to try this! Do you slice it up before you soak it in pickle juice?
@@shetaz905 I actually tear it into chunks. I feel like it gets crispier and more like chick’n.
@@veggielovinaccountant Thank you!
Dill pickle juice?
@@riverbilly64 yep. Dill. Not sweet! That is what is in the chic-fil-a chicken. They drench the chicken in dill pickle juice before breading it.
I just used shredded tofu to make my “meaty” pasta sauce. Combined it with chopped mushrooms, chopped red bell pepper, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Then I added my favorite seasonings and pasta sauce and OMG…it was so good. ❤❤❤
That sounds delicious!
Do you freeze the tofu first, and then shred after thawing? What seasonings do you use? Sounds great!
Have you ever tried it with cauliflower pasta?
I want to follow you around in your kitchen! Need your "recipes, desperately!
Yessss I eat soy almost every day too. I make a copycat chipotle sofritas often! Dr Greger’s videos on soy and protein changed how I view this topic. Asian communities have eaten soy for centuries and are some of the healthiest people in the world 🌱
This is true.
Tofu is life lol crispy tofu crumple with Korean barbecue sauce has me in a choke hold right now! With some rice and sautéed cabbage 😋
That sounds like a great meal. I’m writing that down.
Do you crisp it in the oven or stovetop?
That sounds amazing
You really made me a tofu beliver. I'm a texture person and I never like the feel of it on my tongue. Now I'm enjoying because of you. Thanks Shakayla keep the recipes coming ❤

All three versions look amazing !! But I think the shredded looks the most versatile and yummy. What made you decide to go plant based ?

You make me want to try Tofu. It has been a hard pass for me since I gave up meat. We will see what the future holds. 😃
you get plenty of protein in vegetables, don't worry. I am new to channel, do you use process oils, so called healthy processed foods?
Thank you
Did you read my mind. I litterally was googling this the other day and this pops up. Lol
i love you're a savory queen, but do you think you can create some healthy desserts?

Thank you it did inspire me and encourage me cuz I thought tofu was gross
could I use these to make wings in some capacity? been in search of a plant based alternative to hot lemon pepper wings 🤭
I’m soooooo over “Where do you get your protein?” People who say that are probably eating too much fat, sugar, etc. and where we get our protein from should be the last of their worries
Hi, what kind/brand of wrap did you use? Thanks
I have the soy free fava bean tofu sitting in my fridge... do you ever freeze that or no?
I havent done it, but i heard silken tofu can be used to make mayo !
tofu is so good 🤭👌🏽
I cook with tofu twice a week. 😊
Hey Shakayla Boo ❤️❤️🌹🙏
Yay!🎉
Have you tried Burmese tofu?
I just don't know what to eat anymore. All I seem to eat is plain tofu and fruit. I have a tiny kitchen live on disability and live in Wisconsin. I am bored with food right now and feel like giving up. Oh plus I'm on w.w.
What's the difference between extra firm and super firm? I thought they were this same firmness?
No, super firm is more firm than extra firm, less water. If you see them both in the store you’ll be able to tell the difference.
I am always amazed by the view that tofu and other minimally processed soy products are so bad for us here in the US. There are literally billions of people who consume such products regularly in other places on this planet. And most have a longer average lifespan than Americans.
