2019 Macan S owner here. A couple of additions to some things glossed over: 1. The Surround view not only does a top down view, it adds fisheye lens view for front and rear if you have tall vehicles parked on either side. If you are trying to back out of a parking lot and can't see if any cars are coming, the Surround Panorama rear (or front) view, will allow you to see around the cars. Awesome capability and I use it every time. 2. The Lane Keep Assist button adds a steering wheel symbol on the button in the right column to distinguish it from LDW so it is different. 3. The Roof Rails are a great option and can NOT be added after the fact. Even if you don't think you will ever use them, get them. The cargo area is smaller than most SUVs. If you are going to load 4 or 5 people for a long trip, you won't have enough cargo area. Easy to slap the transport system and a box on top but only if you have the cargo rails. 4. Wheels in 18/19 inch are narrower in width then the 20/21. Also 21 inch wheels come standard with summer performance tires, not all-season like the 18/19/20. You will need to specify all-seasons, or buy another set of wheels with winter tires if you live in a cold climate. 5. PDLS not only turns the brights off with oncoming traffic, when it sees the red tail lights of a car in front of you, it will automatically dim the headlights when it gets close enough to someone in front of you. 6. Thermal/noise insulated glass is a very good option in a hot environment. Our Macan stays cool in the Alabama heat. Also, it is very quiet which is nice. 7. Cargo Management System is a very good option and inexpensive. Adds movable restraints, cargo net, and a reversible floor load space mat. 8. Roof lining - Alcantara was available in the 2019s. We skipped the panoramic roof and optioned the roof-lining in alcantara. It looks absolutely amazing. If we would have gotten the panoramic roof, we would not have specified the roof lining in alcantara, because you pay a lot for it, and don't get much for it since the panoramic roof takes up most of the roof. Also, more headroom without the pano roof. 9. Note there are only tow 12V cigarette plug in for electronic equipment. They ports are in the center console and the rear cargo area. Also, there are two built-in USB ports for the rear seats built into the rear of the center console.

Trying to understand: Why are the roof rails a “great option” if you are not going to use the roof for cargo, especially if you have the sunroof?
@@mikebrinda they are a great option if you intend to put stuff on the roof because they cannot be added after the fact. May increase resale value. If you don't intend to put stuff on the roof, it is not a great option. YMMV.

Thanks for sharing that detailed feedback, it was quite interesting. Nick’s 70 minute option video seemed quite comprehensive so I almost skipped reading the user comments. Now I’m glad I didn’t, because you pointed out quite a few valuable option aspects that Nick missed.

It was very helpful for me. I'm new to Porsches and I'm considering a Macan. I was playing with the configurator and had no idea what some of these options were and how they related to the vehicle. This was a very informative video for me and I was able to configure the exact Macan I want thanks to Nick.

Not if the side mirrors are set properly. Most drivers aim them to show too much of the rear view.

Thank you so much for doing this! I'm in the process of putting together a spec for a 2020 and was on the fence for the PTV torque vectoring option. My salesman recommended against it because you won't feel the difference unless you're really going at it on the turns and you don't want to do that public roads for many reasons. Your firsthand experience in a controlled environment has basically confirmed what he said. Now to look for more options to make up for that $1500 I had already spent in my head!
Excellent advice ! Nick I award you a Golden Medal for being the only tester to notice the disgraceful tachometer that is in need of a cataract surgery. The speedometer lives in a biblical valley of shadows and to see these gauges properly illuminated you have to drive at NIGHT. This from a famous sports car manufacturer.

In a situation when the vehicle is reversing, the driver can choose the rear camera wide angle view mode which allows the driver to see oncoming traffic from both sides of the road in case the view is blocked by garage walls or cars. It's always useful to have cameras around the car as it helps you become more aware of any person/child within close vicinity of the vehicle.
Wow - the first real review of all of the options. I have been looking for this for a long time as when I go to the Macan forums, the Fanboi's say you must have launch control and active differentials and all of these nonsense options (including 21" wheels that destroy the ride). I pretty much got every option that Nicko said on my 2017 Macan S and it is perfect. I love it when he gets to the performance options and says " lots of nonsense in here" - just so true. The twin turbo 3.0 litre S has more than enough power to - go for the luxury options to spruce it up if you need to. My favourite option is Air Suspension - we get PASM std in Aus, and Air is just great.

Terrific run through the Macan options with an excellent sense of humour. Uncertain if they all apply to the UK specs but useful nonetheless for when I make my secondhand purchase and need to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Thoroughly enjoyed this Nick. Wish I had seen this prior to ordering my 2020 Macan. I mostly followed your suggestions except for the fact that I ordered the base model. The carbon build up you mentioned on the base model piqued my interest and sort of wished I ordered the S model. Loved the T shirt....thank you for helping us out with these "1st World" issues

I regularly detail a 2018 Panamera in the tan metallic color and it has held up very well, but it is also very well maintained and always hand washed by me. Seems to be solid paint.
Nick, a Macan is a very viable option for my next car to replace my MINI Cooper S DD and sit next to my Corvette. I honestly get overwhelmed at all the options from Porsche and, since I’ve already ordered two cars to my specs before, feel like this one needs to be ordered as well. This video has helped calm my fears on certain options like do I want air suspension or not. Thanks!

my mom has a macan s in dolomite silver metallic and i absolutely love it so much. because of our car, i will forever love silver cars. we don't need to clean it as often since the dirt camouflages with the paint and any scratches are barely seen or can't be seen since everything blends with the paint.

Another great video Nick, I recently got the B9 Audi S4, the video you made when it was just released kinda helped me to make up my mind. So far the car has been an awesome blast!! Now my wife has been totally in love with the latest 2020 Macaan we are looking to acquire however the list of options just drive me nuts every time i go on the Porche website. I get frustrated and curse at the myriad of options and insane prices for minutes on end. This video is a great idea, thanks for putting this out and i like that you include your pets in most all the videos, lol

Clock isn't standard/available in the UK so if you don't want a flat/boring dash it's either sports chrono or the compass option.

2018 Macan T. Nick I can’t believe you got a dark grey truck. Burbs Mom standard. Mambo Green suits you better! I agree on the Bose vs Burmeister. Also the Burmeister cars do NOT have any spare tire. Can of fix a flat instead. If you are short of leg the 18 ways seats are difficult to get in and out of as you have to clear the bolster. 14s are the ticket. Ventilated seats are great. Oftentimes you can use instead of AC. Good to see they upgraded the brakes in 2019s. In 2018 the S brakes were marginal. Turbo is massively more powerful than the S and GTS no matter what the official metrics say. Porsche design shifter has more metal and gets hotter in summertime. 20 inch wheels fine in NYC with air suspension but would not go bigger.

Hey Nick, this 70 minute option video was shockingly interesting. I was sure that I would only make it part way through, but I ended up watching the whole thing and actually learned a lot.
The ionizer option (“I can’t find anyone who can explain exactly what this does”) motivated me to google a bit, which led to a rennlist thread. It started with a bunch of glowing comments but… ended when someone posted a very detailed negative review: the majority of car ionizers are too weak to be effective, and the stronger ones produce ozone (!) which causes lung issues.
Modeling your own merchandise. Marketing 101. My brother in law already got one for his birthday. He wore it as he dropped my niece for piano lessons. Priceless.

This was a long one but enjoyed watching all the same so thank you Nick. @40min you discuss distracting tech and I couldn’t agree more, not like the old days where a rev counter was a rare thing to find.. and cars only had one side mirror. How times have changed, most noticeably the price of those options you selected. At around $19000.00/$20 000.00 its almost what I paid for my new VW Polo GTI haha.

Unless you are dripping with money pick up a used CPO Macan with low mileage and warranty. Most will come with the essential options people want and a reputable dealer will have the full service records.It is Porsche’s biggest seller so lots to choose from.
Good video for anyone considering ordering because it is quite archaic trying to make sense of some of the ridiculous options.
I wish I have watched this video before buying my porsche macan in April. So many nice options I did not go for and now I regret.

Just a wee note, the Macan’s sister car the Q5, yes the base Q5 is front driven with its “ultra” based system but the SQ5 is still a rear biased “Torsen” based.
An hour long video on Porsche options has to be one of the most Porsche things ever. That said, I'm kind of surprised you were able to squeeze it into an hour.

Another terrific video Nick. Thanks for taking the time to do the full length review of the options. This is very helpful as I am planning to by a new Porsche within the year--but which one??? (I have had a 912 and 911 in the past.) I would buy a Porsche Carrera base model but I don't think Porsche will even make that model for awhile? But then as an old guy perhaps the Panamera is a better choice. But then the Cayenne would offer more utility like pulling my boat. Decisions! Why don't you review the Panamera, would love to get your take on that model.

@@joneastelow9169 The big regret is the Burmester sound system. Don't get me wrong, it sounds fantastic - but not $5k fantastic. I would have been happy with the Bose system I think. Also, I find the sport chrono package a bit of a waste because I never use launch control and rarely use Sport +. I also regret not getting the adaptive cruise control after using on my wife's new vehicle. Hope this helps!

I just purchased a 2018 Macan with the 4 cylinder engine. It's got plenty of zip for almost any situation... including getting onto the Merritt during rush hour! (Happily, I no longer live in Greenwich, CT, so with my tax savings I was able to pay cash for my Macan!)

When you demonstrate the sport exhaust, you need to turn on the sport mode, PSE works well only when the car is on sport mode.
