The naming scheme is most likely because the ICE Macan will still be sold. Base Macan (ICE). Macan 4 (EV). Macan S (ICE). Macan GTS (ICE). Macan Turbo (EV).
Thanks for your video, Nick! As a 992 owner, and also EV owner, I agree with your analysis and option choices. I would add rear-wheel steering, as it does make low speed maneuvering easier (my BMW iX has it, and it does help). I think the Macan 4 EV would be an excellent replacement for my BMW i4 as a daily driver. If all is OK, I will wait until 2026 or 27 before switching, though; namely to give Porsche a chance to iron bugs out, and for it to switch to NACS connector. One piece of advice: own an EV while the battery is on warranty; it is expensive to replace. I had an HV battery fail on a Tesla, and thank god it was under warranty. Change the car before the warranty expires. But… Porsches are built like tanks; hopefully that extends to the EV powertrain as well.
I'd like to know what is expected for maintenance. That narrows the cost, I would hope. If you've owned a Porsche you know how much it costs to get a "simple" oil change.
@@russwright Electric vehicles in general are way less maintenance compared to regular engine ones. You could look up statistics for VW and Audi electric cars, and then maybe add a certain percentage extra to it for being a Porsche.

Excellent review Nick, thank you. Enjoyed your no-nonsense review of the crazy Porsche options list too. Shame the car looks like a generic Asian electric vehicle from the front. I have the sport chrono option on my Macan S and find it very useful; quick and easy to use and configure, and beats the pants off trying to find/operate hapless push buttons when one's eyes should be on the road!
Thanks, Nick. Can you please find out what it would cost to replace the battery on the new Macan EV. I've seen UA-cam videos where, on other makes and models, such replacement can cost up to $50,000 USD. At the end of the day, to own any EV, it's very expensive on repairs, insurance & maintenance. If Donald Trump is elected in November, say goodbye to the EV production in the US. Like to know your thoughts above. Many thanks, Kon Melbourne Australia.
What would be the point. The battery is warranted for 8 years at a minimum of 80% of original capacity. It is bit asking to Nick to find out the cost of replacing the engine in an ICE car. Yes, on rare occasions an ICE engine fails to the point of needing to be replaced
I'm not an EV guy, but my brother in law is. His research shows around $10K-$12K on average to replace batteries in most EVs (he looked at Tesla, GM, Nissan, Ford, and BMW, but not Porsche) at roughly 10 years of age, depending on how you drive the car and where you live (cold weather will shorten overall battery life some). Hence the typical 8 year warranty.
OK, Nick. I have a number of questions about the information you presented. First of all, I'm not aware that LED-matrix headlights have become "full featured" in the U.S. A recognized authority in the vehicle lighting industry recently told me that this has not and is not going to happen and that the U.S. NHTSA is going quite a different direction with their headlight standards. But that still doesn't mean that the adaptive features of LED-matrix can't be enabled. I had someone enable full adaptive functionality of the LED-matrix headlights on my Cayenne last summer and they now work like those in Europe which is pretty wonderful. Second, is the rear wiper really not available with the Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass option? It has been that way on the 911 but are you certain it is that way on the Macan? (Edit: Yes, Nick is correct. Unlike the Cayenne, one must choose between the rear wiper and the Insulated Glass option.) For example, my 2022 Cayenne has both a rear wiper and the Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass option. The Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass option provides a noticeable reduction in traffic noise. I notice every time I get a loaner Macan without it how loud surrounding traffic is. Thirdly, does the Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass really reduce phone reception? Do you know why there has never been a caution about this for Europe but there has been for the U.S.? Could it be that CDMA cell phones haven't been used in Europe but have been in the U.S. (e.g. Verizon, Sprint, U.S. Cellular and some smaller companies) - at least until the end of 2022 when CDMA was supposedly discontinued in the U.S. although there could still be some small podunk rural cell phone companies still using it. There is absolutely no reduction in cell phone reception in my Cayenne with Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass. Also, on windshields with Thermally & Noise Insulated Glass and on heated windshields, there is a fairly large area at the top center for mounting electronic devices. My toll road transponder works fine when stuck to the inside of the windshield in this area. I can't imagine buying a Macan EV. We don't have space for a limited use city car. Even the longest range, most expensive Lucid doesn't begin to cut it here in middle America unless one plans his life around it.
Hello Nick! First time on your chanel, much appreciate your video. My question is, There are the 22" carbon fiber aerodynamic wheels as an option in specs. Do you think it does balance the efficiency/range the fact they're carbon fiber but are 22" wheels?
Nice review… I would definitely go for the Green or Papaya. Not sure about the sportscar thing but it definitely is a nice combination of the sportscar and SUV. I like the traditional 911 headlights myself… it looks more like a Cayenne now but I do like the circular look
I’m not seeing as big of a delta compared to the ICE macan. First, I think even the base version will be as quick or quicker than the ICE S. When I configured them similarly I ended up at 82k for the ICE and 91k for the EV. That included some features unavailable on the ICE version like massaging seats and that gorgeous oak green paint. There’s a good chance that Porsche will continue to offer the 7500 lease credit on this as they do the taycan making the prices even closer. So all in all - not so bad!
Noise insulated glass is a must have, but so is the rear wiper in a siv, must be some sort of bug, i hope... great looking car i think, will sell like hot cake. Suprised woth the choice of free colours.
Hi Nick, I had hoped that the Macan EV would be similarly priced to the petrol version so I am somewhat disappointed that Porsche have chosen to significantly hike this. I get what you're saying about a comparison with the Taycan but what they've done is price out a ton of us from what was the entry level Porsche. As for $2500 for the HUD - who are they kidding? Gees, this is a $500 option on a Golf!
Great vid as always Nick, an extra inch in the back would be great. Surely the Macan 4 is equivalent to your S? It's waaay cheaper. Not sure why you would want a 600+ bhp small suv anyway, unless you regularly drag race a neighbours model Y performance; so spec the 4 and then the price difference will surely be less? (unless the standard equipment is that bad on the 4, but I bet its still the one to get).
Most of us are going to buy either a Cayenne or a Macan as our one and only Porsche. Although I would love a 911, my wife would say that was excessively self indulgent. So we spec the car we do buy in a way that suits us, which might seem excessive to Nick I have a high spec Cayenne S, Series 3.1, which replaced a Cayenne Platinum Edition Series 2. The 3.1 is hugely more refined. A Macan 4 EV might well suit us as the next car. In New Zealand, the 4 is quite competitively priced, comparable to the current Macan S. I know some EV haters think the Macan EV is going to drop 50% in the first year. In your dreams. Much more likely to take 3 to 4 years, just as with the ICE Porsche SUV's.
Looks like we have a design pattern here with the electric Porsches. So far, all the fronts and backs look about the same across Taycan, Macan EV, and in previews with the e-Boxster coming. Not sure they’ll be as classic as their gas counterparts.
Our e-tron SUV doesn't have a heated windshield, making it very difficult to use in the winter. This is more important in EVs. I did not like inoDrive in our previous Cayenne, it slowed much more than I wanted in corners.
I like your video comments, especially when Porsche is mentioned. Please keep doing them. As a proud owner of a 718 and BMW X3 Diesel, I should confess I will never give up my 650miles range to this EV. As much as I love the Porsche products, this one somehow doesn't appeal to me.
I said it before, I'll say it again... Porsche's design is going the wrong direction. They're introducing more and more edges, more angular bits and at the same time losing curves. Which cannot work. At least not for a Porsche. Porsche designs always had that nice flow to them. The surfaces were sculpted carefully, they were rounded, the cars had an organic look. The new designs are walking that dangerous path to looking like an electric shaver. Too many cars look like that already. If Porsches end up looking like that as well it's gonna be a bummer.
Happy New Year! Color "Provence" is Lilac, the signature flower of that French region. At first look online, I hadn't noted the loss of the clamshell hood; you're right, that is a shame, a missed design opportunity. And yes, one absolutely should opt for a snazzy color. This San Francisco Giants fan would love to tool around the SF Bay Area in a Papaya Macan EV-- er, Macan 4 (!). As always, keep up the good work!
Current owner of a 2023 Macan GTS Dolomite Silver - I could tell you that I am not dead inside. All those "interesting" colors don't age well - everybody knows that. If you are a leaser go ahead and go for the flavor of the day colors .... for the non-leasers keep it in the "dead inside" colors. When the time comes you could easily sell your car much quicker
Thanks for dropping by, Nick. Always a pleasure.

Do you think the ICE version will adopt the EV design or will Porsche just continue on with the current ICE body until they retire it?
Did you know that (On the current 911's) the pre wired dash cam is wired only to the dash. It is an additional cost to run the wire from the dash to the camera location, plus the cost of the camera is over $1,000.00. WOW!
Love Oak Green Metallic! Bring more green hues car manufacturers! Oak green metallic with Aurum Gold wheels, perfect combination!
Hi Nick! The new Macan looks so good. You should buy one!
Is the dashcam prep really worth it? In my research, I’ve concluded it’s not, so I didn’t check the box. Thoughts?
@@waynemapp6333 Flying on your wavelength, what's the cost of a new battery after 8 years? Is it more than the cost of the vehicle? That's my point.
@MrBeckPJ Thanks mate, this was very helpful.
You got the gold clock hands Casio downside up Nick!
I bought my Macan S in papaya Nick. I love it! I think it may be a bit of a Marmite colour though!
Macans are so popular and glad to see some EV options now. I feel a luxury SUV is the perfect EV vehicle.
The jury is out if the electric Macon will be popular. It doesn't look any near as nice as the ICE Macon. And demand for electric is waning.
Definitely worth considering for salary sacrifice in the UK - Company car tax very low on EV's
Nice review… I would definitely go for the Green or Papaya.
Not sure about the sportscar thing but it definitely is a nice combination of the sportscar and SUV.
I like the traditional 911 headlights myself… it looks more like a Cayenne now but I do like the circular look
"It's a goddamn bargain!" HAHAHA Great vid, Nick!
Yeah, but the EV version's value will tank much faster than the ICE car.
@@SkippyPB. maybe but I’d lease either way. No interest in owning any luxury German vehicle out of warranty
How spectacular are the explosions?
Why does it have no rear wiper as standard?? Luckily they'll still sell the petrol Macan in the UK, will test drive them
An additional 4 inches could be considered to be substantial in some cases!
It’s pronounced “Pro-Vauns” Nick, as in the region in France famous for their lavender fields. Hence the color.
Noise insulated glass is a must have, but so is the rear wiper in a siv, must be some sort of bug, i hope... great looking car i think, will sell like hot cake. Suprised woth the choice of free colours.
When you have people in the back seat Nick?
It still kills me that Porsche ever got into the SUV business.
Really, but Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin selling SUVs is fine with you?
@@MrBeckPJ - I don’t buy those manufacturers products. I only buy Porsche and Porsche should not be a soccer mom car,
Why not green seat belts?
I love your configurator videos Nick 😊
wow, it is so expensive, I paid $92K for my Taycan basic in 2020 and now $125K plus tax?
Most of us are going to buy either a Cayenne or a Macan as our one and only Porsche. Although I would love a 911, my wife would say that was excessively self indulgent. So we spec the car we do buy in a way that suits us, which might seem excessive to Nick
I have a high spec Cayenne S, Series 3.1, which replaced a Cayenne Platinum Edition Series 2.
Hello Nick and William!
Thanks for the video. What do you think about adding a wind turbine to your solar panels?
You know where you can stick that plug, right? Actually, would totally drive it
Kyle and Dave say the heads-up display is well worth it
Looks like we have a design pattern here with the electric Porsches.
A good or bad time to buy one of the last ice models?
Good time. Definitely.
They're introducing more and more edges, more angular bits
and at the same time losing curves.
Non-SUV cars sell for much more as PTS.
No no you are dead inside :)
Agreed! My impulsive SIL went refrigerator white paint AND Eddie Murphy Raw red jacket interior for her $75K Acura.
That oak green! Love it!
