Something you didn’t mention is the existence of Porsche’s extended warranty. I think it goes out to eight years for an annual premium of about $2,500 for say a 2014 Cayenne Turbo S. A good option if you can find one. The catch is you need to service it with an authorised dealer. Still worth it though for big ticket items like diffs etc.

Owned a Macan GTS since new for just over 4 years. Loved every bit of the car. Superb performance handling and sound.
Great reliability never had any problem with it. Servicing with Porsche aren’t that expensive compare to other prestige brand either.
Unfortunately we needed to upgrade to a 7 seater otherwise would definitely keep it or upgrade to the facelift Macan GTS

We see a lot of first gen Macan S/Turbo V6s with timing cover oil leaks, it requires an engine out repair and runs close to $10k. Make sure you look at the underside at the front to make sure its not leaking before you purchase a used one.

    • @scottlasater4658
      @scottlasater4658 2 роки тому +27

The oil leak can generally be fixed by replacing the top 4 timing cover bolts. They are almost always broken. That doesn't require engine out. Maybe an hour.

So true! Purchased 2016 Macan S less than 2 years ago with useless 3rd party warranty. Dealer didn’t realize Porsche extended warranty to 7 years for transfer case. My engine out repair is looking at $10k to replace brittle plastic lines under intake manifold after major coolant dump & replacing cover bolts. This after spending $5k out of pocket to replace transfer case. Now approaching 4 months without car. Porsche will not offer goodwill assistance, so now I’m lawyering up. This lemon is a beautiful shiny apple with a worm in it.

I didn't own my Macan S for very long but for the time I did own it, there were zero issues. For a used vehicle, it drove like new. Both exterior and the interior materials aged very well, appearing new on each model I viewed and tested. I plan on purchasing another as I have nothing I recall disliking. Very nicely put together product.

As I’ve only recently found your channel, I have been going through your back catalogue and lo and behold you’ve been using Castle Cove for your “money shots” for a while. It must have been a sweet trip in the Macan from Newcastle to Sydney. I detail a Macan Turbo (2 yrs old) weekly for another Castle Cove resident and he buys the Porsche 10 Year Warranty for his cars. Paid dividends for the Cayenne Turbo his Macan replaced because it needed an engine replacement just out of this 10 year warranty and Porsche still honoured it! That made up his mind to buy another one. Keep up the great reviews and interesting content (and humour), Lloyd.

Only gripe, massive Turbo front wheels hop and skip on full lock and you live with it. Btw, tyre wear isn't always dickhead drivers. My Macan steering tracked often and needed regular alignments yearly. A tip for owners with Turbo wheels to conserve your $500 a tyre. Keep up the great work mate.

I have a slight leak on the front cam cover but its like smugging not dripping very minut but my nephew and Porsche and me are working with ARP to make the Bolts that do not break instead of using the dumb Aluminum ones that stretch and break over time causing those oil leaks. You can also have or use the stainless steel Zinc coated AUDi bolts if you need the part # number I can get that for you guys. The Transfer case is warrantied for life on the Macan and you can swap it out yourself in less then an 25 minutes to do. That is really it.

Great review! I’ve had my Gen 2 Macan since Nov 21. Love my Macan and you feel special everytime you drive it. I bought the 2L, as coming out of a Golf R, I was a big fan of the EA888 engine. For daily duties in Canberra and the regular trip to Sydney, it’s close to perfect.
A lot of the gripes of motoring journalists in daily life are actually really functional - for example the 2/3 screen apple carplay… where you can still have multiple car based functions available (I.e. radio or nav)
Some earlier models did develop small cracks on the top surface of the door handles.
    Love the channel :)

Hello from Singapore, awesome review! This is the first video I've watched on this channel, am now a subscriber 😃
My family's had our Macan since 2015 and we're still very satisfied with it. The base 2.0 engine is generally good enough for our city use but driving in sport really solves the problem of the small engine. We love the driving dynamics and it's a wonderful car to take road tripping. Tech is unfortunately pretty basic but then again I can't expect too much from a 2015 car and it isn't a deal-breaker for me.
As you pointed out the parking sensors have gone off in traffic but that is pretty rare and it isn't annoying to me, you can turn off the sensors with a button where the overhead interior lights are. I've heard of issues with the electronic mirrors but so far that has not been a problem for me. Thankfully, we've had no problems with the engine or the transmission and there hasn't been any oil leaks so far. However, it is true that the brakes tend to wear and are expensive to replace. Overall, the car is generally very well built but replacement parts from Porsche are indeed expensive.
The only recent problems have included a shock absorber issue, as well as sagging rooflining. I'm not sure if this package is offered in Australia or the rest of the world but extended warranty can be useful if you intend to keep the car long. Do read the fine print as it does not cover all repairs. This has helped us offset SOME of the costs of the above issues.
    Looking forward to more videos!

I can't begin how much I loved our 2015 Macan S diesel with in white with spyder rims it looked amazing, the car drove the best for a suv and was comfortable when you wanted it to be. Build quality and fit and finish were impeccable as it was a Porsche product. Surprisingly what was rare fitted to macans' where the optional 18 way adjustable seats, which I optioned for only 690 at the time and rear air conditioning for about the same which was a total rip off; some other mentionable options for me are interior lighting package, compass, and glazed privacy glass. We only had it for 4 years and 33000kms that we sold it purely for the reasons for maintenance costs, with a major service, out of warranty, needing to replace tires, brake pads and discs the costs of keeping the car for a couple of extra years did not make sense. But for someone looking for a macan it is truly one of my favourites, don't look past it

I've owned a 2015 Macan S since new and it's at 48K now. The transfer case was replaced under warranty and the oil leak problem was fixed afterwards, with Porsche picking up a portion of the labor as well as providing parts at a huge discount (the cost to me was almost halved but was still significant because this repair involves 29 hours of shop time). The high pressure fuel pump was also replaced under warranty because the ticking (that is characteristic of these things) had become quite loud.

Well covered, excellent work. I’m from Israel Tel Aviv and I own one now for 6 years and I just love it, and that’s right that the AC gas is leaking, happened to me too and the seats are quiet harsh so it makes long journeys not so comfy. I will buy the new one in march 2022 because I don’t see any car that can compete with it for the money you pay and what you get (it costs here staggering amounts of money 230,000$ US dollars for the Macan S but Israel is very pricey country to live in, my R8 cost me 460,000$ and I could make it much more expensive with the options same goes for the Macan S I almost took it naked from the dealership and still very expensive). I really recommend the car to others but prepared to buy lots of engine oil and not maintaining it at the dealership garage.

Bought a 2016 S in Mahogany. Have put about 120,000 km in heavy winter and summer. Lovely. Great to have a bit of oversteer to play with. The twin turbo 6 barks nicely. Easy to maintain. Oil changes and transfer case fluids aren’t bad at all. Definitely do the transfer case every 2-3 oil changes. Weak point. Brakes are easy if you get a device to reset the parking brake. Other than that the aluminum block means there will be some oil weeping. Not dripping. Just some areas that are damp.

I had the 1st 2014 Macan S. Pros: The diesel engine was excellent, and it was great to drive. Cons: The driver seat auto positioning system was faulty - took Porsche 3 years to ultimately fix, power steering plus is critical to have or too hard to turn at slow speeds, dark interior (no sun roof) and smallish rear seats that my teenage kids didn’t like entering or exiting. Overall I enjoyed the car while I had it, even recommend it to anyone who wants a cheaper Porsche, but I’d never buy another Porsche. Good accurate review, well done.

Stumbled across the Macan, when looking for a smaller SUV for the lady. I had been planning to buy a Porsche for over 10 years(Timing was right, and so was the pricing) and was planning on buying a 911, or Cayman, but started driving the Macan S, and loved the practicality, styling and handling. Bought a 2016 Macan S in Mahogany with beige interior and love it. Also got the extended warranty. So far so good. I always research my cars, and know the common issues, before I buy. I determine, if I am willing and can pay for the maintenance before I lay down my cash. Oh, I bought this one for me. I think the lady will get the SQ5 or Infiniti QX50. Still waiting for her to make time to drive them both.

110,000 miles on my 2019. Maintenance is expensive, but when done on schedule (every 10k miles) the car still feels new (as compared to the nearly new loaners I get while service is being done). I wish the Base Model suspension erred ever so slightly more on the side of sporting. But other than that and the cost to do regular maintenance, I could not be happier.

Waiting for my 2024 Macan GTS. This will be our third Macan. Bought a 2015 Macan S with 58k miles and sold it with 178k miles. Barely any issues and drove great! Bought a 2017 Macan GTS with 23k miles now at 80k miles. Looking forward to the 2024 Macan GTS.

Purchased a 2019 Base (new),LOVE IT. No stranger to Porsche, I have owned 4 911s. Currently l have a 911 Carrera 4S. with performance and handling upgrades as well . My wife and I enjoy driving in a Sportingly Manner!!! I guess one could say we have a Front and Back Porsche!! LOL These vehicles are almost bullet proof. A bit pricey when it comes to maintenance but worth every penny. BUY ONE or TWO for that matter.

I had the mistake of buying a pristine 2017 s model with all the trimmings , 85k valued new . It only had 26k miles on it but had three owners . That should have been enough of a red flag. One week after purchasing it a light bulb was shorting on the front light, 500.00 repair. Within the month I could smell an oil leak but I couldn’t accept it . I was like no way this car that has barely been driven in 4 years has an oil leak . The cost was estimated at 5000.00 to fix . That’s when I sold it back to the people I bought it from . No sooner did I sell that they turned around and sold it for 5 k more than I bought ( thank you chip shortage ) . This means someone else inherited the problem which sucks . They didn’t repair the leak either because it was going to take 2 weeks with parts they needed , so I assumed they cleaned it up and then sold it right away, like they did with me. Worst car buying experience ever . For a beautiful car with all the bells and whistles it is terrible for costly repairs at low miles . I went on the forums afterwards and my problem was not unique unfortunately. Shame on Porsche for ripping off the consumer with these gorgeous but horribly made cars.

Oil leaks are caused by having low oil on the car the seals begin to crack, unless its burning oil which seems to be most likely your case because of how low miles your car is. The burning of your oil is caused by the carbon residue burning at the piston rings due to the minerals in a normal "full synthetic" based oil. I would recommend a 100% synthetic based oil which has 0 minerals unlike full synthetics which only have to be 25% synthetic to be considered "full synthetic". An awesome brand i would recommend is Amsoil 100% synthetic.

    • @extremedrivr
      @extremedrivr Рік тому

@@andywu8558 Amsoil is the only Oil I use also because it's 100% Synthetic.
      But..
It wont stop bad engine designs from failing on you.
Gotta know your engines and how they're designed, otherwise you could have one giant paperweight of a lawn ornament down the road!!
Engines that burn oil are on their way out and it's 95% always due to a bad engine design if the miles are low.
Old worn out engines will burn oil because the seals are worn, but engines with few miles on them should NEVER EVER do that.

My 2015 Macan S started creaking like an old house after 1 year of ownership. I took it to the dealership multiple times to have them look at it but they pretty much flat out refuse to help me with it now. It's rather annoying and embarrassing for a Porsche.
I've had all the different possible leaks happen, but luckily covered under warranty at the time. Transfer case seems to be ok for now.
My front radiator grills no longer function properly and make loud whirring noises.

Aussie vehicles are a similar spec to the UK/Irish vehicle . Though we do tend to get stuff that's either optional or not available In other markets. The cost of vehicles here compared to the US etc is due to different spec levels, import duties, taxes , currency exchange & conversion rates/fees etc .

I have a 2015 Macan S with 110k miles. I put 40k of those miles on it. It’s honesty been a great car for most of those miles.
The brakes are very expensive to service.
The oil leaks can happen so watch out for them.
Find a nicely sorted one that has been taken care of. This car shouldn’t bankrupt you but if you do not take care of it, it will do exactly that.

Have a 2015 mecan s and it's eating itself up! It's had gearbox, front suspension, 2 sets of brake disks, steering rack, and currently steering belt replacement. All service done by Porsche South Africa. It's a bit excessive for 60 000km. Unfortunately my adoration for the brand and its service here will not see my money again...

When my 718 GTS was in for warranty work I was lent several Macans. The base model is a giant piece of shit. I’d spend that money on a cheaper brand that has more punch than a couple of drunk snails. The Turbo was quite nice. Reasonably quick, handled well, sounded kinda cool too. I’d definitely consider the Turbo over a M3 or C63 as a practical fun car. I was surprised at how small the back seats are. I really liked the PSCB brakes (I think that’s the acronym) on the Turbo. No brake dust and not scary expensive and overkill like carbons.

Great cars, have owned two of them. Both bought used, both had oil leaks, a 2017s and 2018s. I guess Porsche has figured out a reasonable cost fix, but, not good to see in cars with under 40,000 miles. Terrific ride and handling. I am looking at a used 2020 now, will sell off a Cayenne that is not nearly as fun to drive. You do pay a lot for the badge.

Love the honesty of your reviews. I have been watching for a while and somehow missed this one. I have a diesel Macan and for potential buyers, look for a car where they've spent money on decent options and check service history. They're the cars bought by people who wanted the car and looked after them not just bought what they could just afford. Chances are they'll be in better condition and well maintained. Just a few thoughts from someone who bought 2nd hand. Absolutely love my car.
