Also....the Hound was a faunus. If you look at the ears I'm 99% they are fox ears. And remember every important character is a fairy tale character. So if I'm doing the calculations right that person turned grim was the Fox and the Hound!

I want to point out that Blake has been the first one to side with Ruby on MULTIPLE occasions (she was the first to say they’d join Ruby in the tunnels in Volume 6 when Ruby dropped the Lamp, Blake was the one who said “We’ll follow your lead” to Ruby in Volume 7, AND Blake sided AGAINST Yang at the start of this Volume in order to help Ruby)
when Ozpin demanded that Ruby hand over the lamp, Blake immediately questioned him, coming to Ruby's defense.
Salem: *_"And I can't wait to watch you burn."_* 😈
Also Salem: **violent screams of agony as she burns** 🔥😱🔥
It was the conversation between Blake and Ruby I realized Blake's always had Ruby's back. Even after leading the Menagerie troops she still automatically followed Ruby's lead and trusted her judgment once she was were part of the team again. She challenged Weiss's biases and questioned Yang's sanity but she's never been anything but supportive of Ruby and her decisions. Weiss challenges Ruby's leadership and Yang challenges Ruby's morals but Blake? Blake will follow her to hell and back.
She was also the first person to help Ruby back in season 1 besides Yang. Those two have always had a special friendship and it's little moments like those that remind you of it
I love team RWBY so much they all just work so well together not just in combat but in their relationships (romantic and otherwise) with each other
It's literally they're only meaningful moment in 8 volumes, it's not that deep

Fyi Hazel didnt need to hear the truth from Jinn, because he was able to confirm that Oscar told him the actual password, which goes a long way of corroborating many of his other claims. There's no reason to give him the password unless he's sure that he's telling the truth.
Episode 8: The crew truly does shine when they go for the horror aesthetic and tone.
Less than 24 hours away from Jacques and Whitley starts proving what a good kid he is.
We finally get a good Blake and Ruby scene. Admittedly they’re the ones that have the least screen time together so this scene was so sorely needed. And it’s so sweet.
The way Willow was able to throw away the alcohol to help her kids. Be right back, feeling emotions.
The reveal of the Silver Eyed individual inside the Hound. The implications are so many. Geez Salem is messed up.
Episode 9: Probably my favorite episode of the volume.
Barb (Yang) has some great deliveries this episode. Some comedic and some dramatic. I love the acknowledgment that Summer was Yang’s mom too.
Yang really punched Salem in the chest, exploded her, sassed her, and lived to tell the tale. Queen.
Burning the Witch at the stake. How fitting.
And then we had a two week hiatus due to extreme and horrible weather conditions in Texas.

lol I remember watching the next episode after the break (without watching episode 9 again to refresh) and did not understand what was happening in the opening. Threw me for a loop until I asked my friends who also watch and they reminded me.

so the bird at the beginning is Qrow's bird form, not Raven's. Raven is more a standard bird, while this bird has a crest of feathers on its head mimicking his hairstyle, and feathers on the back mimicking his cape
To be fair, it faked out about half of FNDM when this chapter first aired.....

I like the detail of the faunus in the Hound looking foxy, as the original text of The Fox & the Hound is very appropriately dark and messed up.
They handle the Horror elements so well. Between stalking through the house here and the Apathy a few volumes ago, I agree that I'd be interested to see Rooster Teeth do a straight Horror project.
Your self-control and willpower to not keep going is very admirable. I wouldn't have minded a third episode, but good on you sticking to your schedule.

Interesting you didn’t notice the person inside of The Hounds eyes. Fun Fact: the person inside was a Fox Faunus, and alluded “The Fox and The Hound” fairytale
Also quick note about the fight with Salem. Although she wasn’t even REALLY registering the kids as threats, all of their attacks and Hazels that landed we can say we’re not only “kill attacks” but what would happen if a person with no Aura were on the receiving end of those attacks.
We’re so use to seeing everyone bounce back from attacks and blows, we don’t really see how lethal their attacks are against a “normal” joe until now.

1. I really enjoyed Blakes moment with Ruby, over the course of the show they haven't had a whole lot of 1 on 1 time so its nice when it does happen~
2. So fun thing to think about now is whenever you heard the Hound moving bones around it was doing so with the body inside. Your welcome for the body horror imagery~
3. Wonder when Willow killed the boar grimm? Maybe a expedition with her Dad or something? Would be a neat bit of lore to sprinkle somewhere.
4. Ah yes the infamous cliffhanger that If I remember was just before a long break due to covid. I remember a long wait regardless.
Think I will keep it there again gotta be ready for the future. Nice session I look forward to next time when ALL OF A SUDDEN- *cliffhanger fade to black*

When the truth behind the Hound became known the fandom went absolutely insane; people had been (mostly jokingly) saying stuff like 'bet the Hound is Summer Rose' and then the reveal happened and people absolutely FLIPPED upon realizing maybe something like that happening later in the series wasn't so unlikely after all.
I think I ended up listening to the 'lament of corruption' (that latin-esc singing bit post Hound reveal) on repeat for like the entire week afterwards too. Just so gripping

Interesting, I just noticed that after Yang's pallets go off, Salem regenerates. SInce Salem is from the old world, she doesn't have Aura to protect herself. She just tanks the damage or dies and gets put back together. I wonder if she's just used to the pain or literally doesn't feel it anymore.
She feels it, because Oscar magic made her groan, and fire made her scream.
Maybe damages that would outright kill someone does not make her scream. Like, a chest explosion or a bigass rock on the face
I don't know if she doesn't have aura due to being from the old world. They may have had aura then too. I think the main reason she doesn't have aura is because she like 100% grim. Raven told Cinder back at the end of Vol 5 that Cinder's arm doesn't have aura because it's grim.

Shorter essay today. Most of the stuff from last essay is continuing, Ren, the Schnees and Marrow continuing their growth as Characters. Whitley saves the day for the city of Mantel. Willow saves her children and hopefully starts the path to sobriety. Also we now know she has some training as a huntress because that was her boarbatusk summon.
The hound!!!! A silver eyed Faunus. That's why it could speak, why it was so much smarter. Why it left remains after it's death. I wish I could find the translation of the laying singing in that scene. It's a lament and a warning to Ruby, "look at me fellow silver eyed warrior. I've been corrupted and changed, this is your fate too if you fail." Is what it basically is.
Emerald and Hazel switch sides. Since volume four opener erald has shown fear about everything Salem. And as for Hazel he speaks with Oscar and Ozpin. And also sees Emerald's fear. I wonder how much she looks like his dead sister?
I think that Willow's summon is an aplha boarbatusk, it is several times larger than Weiss'.

The 100th episode of RWBY. It's called "Dark", and it ends with the main villain: Cinder Fall. Fitting.
I love how Cinder just laughs when confronted by soldiers and a rocket launcher. She doesn't even bother to try dodging. Also, her line to Watts was a pretty amusing summary of their entire relationship: *_"You know, this may be the first time I've ever been happy to see you."_*

This is what 101 episodes of RWBY does to you. Watching your emotional spiral into madness, I can’t help but nervously chuckle.
One of my favourite things about this Volume is seeing Weiss momentarily elevated from Best Girl to Angel, for like half a second.
To borrow your phrase I’m about to do a reach of my own because nothing I say has been confirmed yet. The implications of her having a Nevermore summon are interesting. I think we all just assumed that one of the conditions for earning a summon was for the Schnee to kill the Grimm themselves. If it’s the Nevermore from Initiation, then Weiss doesn’t have to make the final blow herself, so that opens up a whole lot of possibilities. It makes sense, when you are part of a team, you share in the successes and failures, not to mention the growth. That said, Nevermores are kind of common, if she could summon something more unique like the Sphinx from the train, or even the Hound (not sure if that could work or not since it was a person), then I could confirm my hypothesis.
Oooh, good catch with the Nevermore, I hadn't thought about that. Maybe it's a sign of _her_ semblance starting to evolve further, letting her summon opponents she _helped her team_ defeat?
When chapter 9 came out, there was a blizzard in Texas and chapter 10 got delayed an extra week. (Which also being in Texas during that time I don't blame them) We just had to sit there for two weeks with that. When I was going through v8 this summer with my fiance we were doing two episodes a week so he could be caught up before RTX and he ALSO almost wanted to break our schedule
Also if I had a nickel for every time I watched someone go through these v8 emotions for the first time this year, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice 🤣
Also about Neo and the lamp! That is a fantastic question, if she can activate the lamp without verbally saying Jinn's name! Like is it the intention of wanting to activate the lamp or is it the actual word? Hell I'd burn a Jinn question on that one, to learn more about the relics like that

@@rcking1001 Also when Oscar first divulged the name, back in V6. "Her name...is Jinn. Say her name to summon her" with Ruby holding the Lamp just a few feet away. It wasn't until Ruby looked at the Lamp in her hands and said it that time stopped and Jinn appeared.
So yeah, it does seem to require intent. But does it require audible vocalization? We don't know.

Seeing the Hound reveal was an eye opener... I felt the chapter's title, "Dark," was appropriately named as it further illustrated some of the lengths that Salem would go to achieve her victory. When the Hound was defeated the Grim body dissolved away but the person underneath remained... what remained ... wasn't much.

She's an original human from the time of the gods, did they have those back then? I think she jelly. The god of darkness took their magic (and killed everybody), but the new people who popped up after somehow have aura, semblances, dust. Salem has destruction or whatever, Grimm force, from to the pools and seems to harness that as a form of magic too, but she might not have an intuition for how the new people function. Even after all this time. Since she hasn't lived it. Then again I don't know how much of her magic is destruction juice and how much is actually the same as the blessing of the gods

In the Atlas military's defense, they dont know the numbers they are facing, etc. They already tried to shoot Monstro on the outside and nothing happened. So I take the formation as one that's playing defensively. Even atlas has limited personnel and ammunition at their disposal and for all they know Salwm has an unlimited amount to just throw at Atlas. If they all fire and fail to wipe everyone...that reload time is gonna get them wiped out

Iirc witch was the last episode before the Texas freeze in 2021 so we had to wait almost a month for episode 10
RWBY turns 100 chapters with 8x9 and 10 years old last month! They grow up so fast. Yang celebrated by hitting Salem with the exploding boob punch and gets the honor of being the first main character to get a "kill" on Salem. Didn't do anything but hey, bragging rights.
She didn't get a kill, Oscar did.

And there's the same shock we felt when we saw the Silver eyed core of the "hound." Welcome to the club.
The grimm part dissolved like they always do. However, people don't dissolve like that, so they're left behind. Course, Salem's not going to be too happy that her experiment failed.
Nope. The Summer Maiden hasn't been found and identified yet.
As you saw, before she could confirm that she'd done anything to Summer Rose, Hazel interrupted. I still think that Summer's alive in hiding.
Now we see that Salem's power has limits. She had to release them or she wouldn't have the power to take on Hazel. Remember, he said he'd killed her many times but she just kept coming back. That shows he's very strong himself and she's unsure if she could hold them in place and fight him at the same time.
