Oh my gosh… The floodgates have been opened in chapter 2.
Looks like I was right about this volume in the sense that it was going to hurt the entire time.
The volume thus far is so good and I’m grateful that it’s back.
Poor Ruby…. CAN SOMEONE JUST HUG HER PLEASE?!?!?

Notice Ruby's tone is quite deep and serious as compared to other volumes? She is taking the loss very hard and the way Ruby speaks to her teammates at end reminds me of this quote from God of War Ragnarok, "Do what is necessary not because it is written".
That's the thing. Notice that every time someone tries to show concern for Ruby she doesn't respond to it like in Ch 1 when Yang asked her if she was all right. She just ignored the question.
Baby girl has things going on that a hug ain't gonna fix.
Weiss having a mental breakdown and swimming in denial is the best part of this episode. Kara sells it perfectly. Not to mention all the amazing character animation.
Blake using puns to flirt with Yang is everything. And that cute little hand graze! Ugh! I’m dead.
The fact that Penny’s sword turned into a green doll… ow! Even in death Penny is being seen as a puppet. And the shot where the doll looks like it’s in the jar?! And then Little?! The directing of this episode is great.
Lindsey continues to kill the voice work for Ruby. I’ve never heard someone sound so serious when saying “we want to go to the birthday party.” This poor girl, someone give her a hug.
8:32 wonderful little detail but Yang realizes before the rest of them that Little is actually a child, and one they are now responsible for, you can see her eyes widening in shock while the others don't react till Little's next sentence XD
She took a message of hope to the stars one of the saddest lines in the show I tear up every time

Semantics
Honestly I really like the detail that last episode, Yang tried to reach out to Ruby and got shut down, Weiss tried early this episode and Ruby just turned away, Blake tried near the end and got dismissed. Like, they want to help her, but Ruby's shutting down any attempt to reach out to her and they are all still stuck in problem solving mode too, as far as they're concerned they're all still on the clock to go home and continue the fight, they don't know, narratively, that this area is one they can actually use to decompress and process their trauma.

Weiss using cold logic but getting tied up in philosophical knots.....while Blake is more attuned to the way storytelling works as the huge book nerd she is....and Ruby trusts Blake's judgement.

I have said in a few comments to reactors that I think Weiss is the only one of the girls who does not know this story inside and out. I do not see her family as the type to read fairy tails at bedtime so she knows it from picking up the outline as other kids around her talked about it, it would defiantly explain why she is the most stressed out by the nonlogic of how the place works.
Blake's matured so much since Volume 1. Blake was always my favorite character for how much I relate to her, and it's so nice to see how much she's grown.
- I love Weiss in the background going off cause she's mentally been broken xD
- Love the different art style used for the flashback, then again I've always loved any time they did a shift like that as a new different thing added to the mix.
- The BEES god I love how blatant flirty they're being, like legit canon xD Also Weiss being happy as the #1 bee wingwoman since v2, like "About time" after all the work she's put into helping them get together xD
- Blake picking up puns and jokes to flirt; Yang in the v4-5 comics wanting to write stories together with Blake; the two are walking gay messes picking up each other's things xD
- Little's dance is too adorable T.T Plz let them live writers, I can even manage with a goodbye over a death.
- The prices asked for Ruby (hope to fill a jar) and Yang (giving up what it's like be loved) are so pointed, the girls need therapy big time
- Love that you picked up on the vibes from the marionette figure, it's like an "emotional pain instinct" xD
- The way they did the heavy emotional scene with Penny to Weiss knocking herself out with a rock back to emotional is just >chef's kiss< xD
- I definitely relate to Ruby in being able to "shut off" certain emotions and lean into "what is the task I should be doing right now" type of thing. Not sure if dissociation fits but something akin to it at least.
God I've already seen the scene but Ruby's entire reaction to anything Penny still gets me right in the feels, especially as a Nuts and Dolts shippers. inb4 anyone gets irked: seeing them as just friends is fine too, *I* see them as being either but do ship them. To me it's like Jaune towards Pyrrha, Penny's blade and Pyrrha's sash; including the speeches give for each as warriors. I'm ngl part of would love to see Ruby using Penny's blade for at least v9 as her main weapon, while Crescent Rose is MIA. Also the score in the background when she's giving the speech just hits something in me, like the small score back in v8 during Penny's gaining a human body T.T
I still want a full transcript of Weiss's rambling as she looses her mind trying to figure this out. I can relate to Ruby's coping method as well, all her life she has been able to just put whatever stress or grief she has in a mental box and move on. Later when you have time you unpack and process it on your own time, the problem is she has been hit with too much too fast and the dam is creaking.

I love how Ruby shows the ties to Yang, cause v1-3 Yang had the same style of unhealthy pushing things down to her. I'd assume that like Yang, Ruby is going to hit a point where that gets balanced out in a healthier manner. Though I do think that mentality is something prevalent in society, cause people are pushed to keep working to gain money to pay bills; not to examine themselves and see that they're potentially not well. But that's a whole can of irl worms xD
At least Lindsay is going to get their wish, a broken Ruby for a time at least; at this rate anyway.

I did notice that last episode there was a light that showed up right when Blake turned the topic towards a positive direction so I believe it is reacting to emotions from all the girls, it is just that Ruby is the strongest signal being sent out.
It's been straight up confirmed by RT in a discussion that it rains when you're sad. Also by the soldiers this episode. Technically that's all that's been confirmed but why not other weather effects. I'm with you there that emotions can dictate the weather.

This was a fun, sorrowful, and perfect episode. This made me think that this will be a great volume.

7:53 I'm just noticing this now on this rewatch, but when Weiss is like "I know that was a lot to hear, I'm sorry", Ruby doesn't reassure Weiss that she's fine. In the first episode, when Yang asks if Ruby is okay after waking up, Ruby doesn't respond either. They just keep going because they have to, and gosh dang, does that hit harder. Like, when you don't have the energy to lie even, so you just stay quiet. v.v
Ruby's eulogy to Penny always makes me cry. It's delivered so well, and the words - while obviously designed to make it seem fantastic so the guards would buy it - are true. And it reframes and reminds us just how great Penny was. Q A Q

Whenever it rains to Ruby's depression, it always reminds me of Crying in the Rain by Whitesnake. The words being "No one can see the tears when you're crying in the rain." She doesn't want the others seeing her tears.

Yeah, there's so much in this episode that hurts. The fact that at the beginning of the series Ruby would have had enough hope to fill up hundreds of those jars with plenty left over, but now she doesn't have enough hope left to fill up one - and she knows it. And then snapping at the end of the episode She's on the fast track to a mental breakdown and I'm not sure what can saver her at this point.
Blake managing to say "How disarming" italics, I love it.

Last time on RWBY: The girls woke up, there was reunion and trauma dumping, speculation of where they are, and what to do, a not so dangerous encounter followed by a brief and potentially dangerous encounter, ending on an overview of the world they've fallen into.

I really am loving the character animations this volume so far. Weiss had me rolling with just some her movements.
4:03 The Four Seasons, The Two Brothers, The Girl In The Tower, The Man With Two Souls, The Shallow Sea... all were also part of a story they all read as kids... and yet, they all turned out to be real (as far as Remnant lore is concerned, at least). Has Weiss really not been paying attention? I bet you we'll meet The Ninjas Of Love at some point, too.

I know Ruby has withdrawn into herself and is just continuing to spout the same nonsense she thinks is expected of her as a leader. That being said, taking a second to think, talking about getting home to Weiss of all people at this time was incredibly insensitive. Weiss is homeless. It’s different from before when she chose to leave Schnee Manor, at least she had the option to return if things changed or if she changed. And considering she left to find her sister, I’m sure some part of her always expected Atlas to be her home even if she couldn’t live in the manor anymore. Now, she doesn’t even know if her family is alive, or where they’ll end up living from now on, especially when they are a few amongst the thousands that have been permanently displaced.
All that said, so long as she is trapped in the Ever After, she can’t even begin to start sorting out her family and living situations, so I can understand why she has the least patience for being stranded as they are.
Agree with all of this. Weiss has lost every bit of stability she's ever had, except for her team.

You can see how the intro is playing out. Everyone is upbeat and optimistic but Ruby is taking it hard. I'm also glad that alot of the things from the preview are happening earlier so we can still be surprised later.

I'm loving the more emotional and subtle path this volume is taking. There hasn't been a single action scene yet and I'm perfectly fine with it, because it provides more time for the characters. Blake being more assertive, Ruby being neck deep in the trauma she's been holding in for many volumes, and Weiss being confronted with such an illogical world while processing the loss of her home. It's great, and it might be a contender for my favorite volume depending on how the rest goes. (As a side note, I wouldn't be surprised if Weiss becomes the source of most of this volume's memes. Some of her moments are just hysterical.)

Great reaction Ghost! I just got done watching episode two before this video. After watching this episode I noticed a few things. First was literally when the raccoon saw ruby didn’t have enough hope which sucks but more importantly have you noticed how Ruby and Alex are really similar but different. In Alex’s story she stole from the raccoon but in Ruby’s case she didn’t but instead her new friend little helped her out. Maybe that’s what’s going keep Ruby , Ruby and not lose her self by having others there to support her. Let me know what you think

Do you think the Red King might find someone named Ruby Rose intriguing? At the end of the chapter, the cadence the toy soldiers are chanting as they are riding off sound similar to the nubuck sentries at the Argus base in Vol6 C8.

The green marionette wasn't exactly subtle....puppet...like Pinnochio...Penny....I'm surprised some of the reactors I've seen don't immediately recognize it's one of Penny's swords she had to magic into existence in her fight with Cinder....as a flesh and blood meat person, she no longer had access to her remote controlled metal blades, so she improvised with Maiden Magic. It was the armed fighting style she knew best, after all. Ruby's eulogy definitely made me tear up as well.
Blake has always been my favorite, she's just great
I'm hoping for a bit of a darker Ruby this season. Specifically that the Red King kinda just tossed Penny's sword as if it's yet another of his trinkets. And that it really gets to Ruby, so much so that she takes it while he's not looking (read: steals) right before they leave his (presumably) castle.

The fairy tale has not happened yet it is a Prophecy, and Alex is the supposed/incarnation of the task the person who did the tasks Alex would be an example on how to complete it so in theory anyone can do the tasks that's my theory our at least my thoughts

I like that theory. I think the events have happened, but maybe Alyx never made it, but rather got lost somehow…or rather what if Alyx wasn’t the only girl to fall through the world and someone also did before her and someone took her place and told Ozma what they did and what really happened. And Ozma decided to change the ending cause it’s, a, well, fairy tale. Maybe in Ever After, one stays, but in order to be released needs someone to replace.
Personally hoping that the WBY get out of the Ever After, but Ruby gets stuck. The reason why? Ruby no longer knows who she is or who she wants to be. And that's what ends up trapping her.
@@RareAcnologia My theory is that team RWBY is on their way out but something or someone has got a hold of Ruby. Then Weiss, Yang and Blade help Ruby in the only way they can, as family.
