Without spoilers, Weiss's dad doesn't seem the best just off these first 3 volumes. Back in volume 1, Weiss mentions a difficult childhood, volume 2 she practices her smile before calling Schnee headquarters, likely in case he appeared and him cutting her off so she calls all show a strained relationship.
Man… The dynamic between those two is very serious and I am yearning to hear more about it
“What’s your favourite fairytale?”
Perhaps one of the most famous (or infamous) lines of the show. As could be expected from a world that takes a lot of inspiration from real world ones, Remnant’s fairytales are not just mere stories.
As for Summer and Winter, unless they purposefully changed their names or their parents knew they would one day be Maidens, chances are it’s just a coincidence. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were named after the fairytale but the actual existence and presumably, the identities of the Maidens are supposed to be a secret for their own protection.
However, let me give you something else to ponder, there are 4 Maidens. The number 4 does pop up a lot, hmmm.
After some thought, I think Team FNKI were matched with Weiss and Yang to make sure Yang would be moved to the finals instead of Weiss. The fight would have at least gone a lot smoother if Yang didn’t allow herself to be baited like that and stuck with Weiss or at least switch targets.
That brings us to the final fight. If Mercury was able to manipulate the whole fight with Yang being none the wiser, then he is on a whole other level compared to her. He had to keep the fight going without it being too one-side, then bring her aura down just enough to make her desperate enough to use her semblance. Then he’d have to allow her to dominate and shatter his aura all while making it look believable enough to fool the spectators, which include some of the best fighters in the world.
As for what exactly happened, you probably already have a pretty good idea by now, especially after rewatching these episodes during editing. Fortunately, you won’t have to wait long to get your answers.

I did piece together that emerald most likely used her semblance to trick yang hence what happened after the fight. I was so immersed into the show that I couldn’t think of that offhand but it does make sense. The show is quite amazing…

You already know the answer regarding Yang and Mercury, here is something for you to think about to help you understand that moment, remember the fight between Emerald and Mercury against Coco and Yatsuhashi? Coco's partner was down but she saw him in the woods. Otherwise enjoying seeing how you connect some things together so well. Just buckle up and maybe grab a first aid kit and tissue box cause the fairy tail is over. XD
I kind of pieced that together during the editing but I wasn’t entirely sure if that was the case. Since that’s the case… Wow… This show really did get dark like y’all said…

Something I think it noteworthy about the fight between Emerald/Mercury and Cocoa/Yatsuhashi is that it's the first time that Emerald and Mercury show just how much they're holding back pretending to be students. Team CFVY are 2nd year Beacon students and acknowledged as the best in their year (in the book After the Fall, which talks about what happened during the mission they were on during volume 2), but against Emerald and Mercury they may as well have been standing still.
The best/worst part of this? Emerald and Mercury are still very much henchmen level on the bad guy's side.
A scary thought
So i think the best part that i was recently informed about, is that right after Mercury hit her with the bullet tornado but before she gets up you can see mercury mouth something, and alot of people speculate he was saying "showtime" which is just great

Remember how in an earlier fight between Coco and Yatsuhashi against Emerald and Mercury, Coco saw Yats when Yats was on the other side of the field and fighting Merc while Coco was fighting Em. For the sake of no spoilers, just remember that and what that can possibly mean in other situations... **ominous ending**

Good to see you reacting to multiple episodes while you can this volume. Your becoming a good favorite reactor of these for most! One BIG thing to keep in mind is that MOST ending of each volume will have a end credit scene.
As for team CVFY, again, can’t stress enough about the books. They are the focus and they’re are a lot of moments that tackle the tournament and how they felt about everything, from the teams and their lose like that. Just PLEASE if your gonna read/listen to the first book, do it AFTER THIS VOLUME.
Oh, the 6th episode is your FIRST “Welcome to RWBY” moment. Your basically NOT a full on RWBY fan until……specific moments in this volume happen. This is the 1st. This is your warning.

One of the things this show does so very well, one of Monty's great talents that fair warning, it takes the team a little to get into shape to recreate for future volumes. They do get good though, but v4 can be a little more stilted. Then again that's also because they're getting used to a new animation engine.

Taiyang Xiao Long is the father of Ruby and Yang. (Lucky man married half of his team XD)
Raven Branwen is Yang's mother.
Qrow Branwen is Raven's younger twin brother.
(I really wish they make a series one day that would focus on this team)
One thing I can say for sure is that Winter Schnee is not a maiden. She's really proficient at using her hereditary Schnee semblance: Glyphs. There's even a theory that Glynda is one of the seasonal maidens. But we'll have to wait and see how it'll turn out.
And about Professor Ozpin, I must say your speculations are really good. I'm not gonna spoil it XD. You'll get your answers in V6.

I've been rewatching RWBY like A LOT to get all the foreshadowing and connect all the dots. I suddenly thought of "The Man With Two Souls." Ironwood & Qrow said they've found a way to capture aura and cramp it into something else. Then Ozpin said Amber's life will be intertwined with Pyrrha. It took me SO MANY YEARS to figure out what that mean, but does that mean Pyrrha would not only have her own soul but Amber's as well? Two souls in one body...and they said that she won't be able to inherit the maiden's powers naturally, but only give what that powers were bound to. That means if she did successfully got part of Amber's powers, she would be like Oscar then. Two souls eventually merge to become one; then Pyrrha would no longer exist, her body would still be there but her soul would no longer be hers. Just like Oscar, who would eventually fade then slowly becoming Ozpin.
