I loved that it was Weiss who was the first to point out that they'd been relying on Ruby without making sure she knew she could rely on them in return. Ruby's struggling with feelings that she "isn't enough", that she can't "measure up", and Weiss, back in volume 1, was the first person to tell her that.
Those two really need a heart-to-heart, if they can get it.
Im not sure if you watched the Ice Queendom but there Weiss told Ruby "I never met someone who's more lonelier than me."
Ruby and Weiss are different but so similar. Or more so.
@TalkaboutRandon Blake and Yang being about contrast while Ruby and Weiss are built on different approaches to their similarities is one of my favorite things about RWBY.
I understand but Weiss was in her "posh, stuck-up bitch" phase and she obviously doesn't think that now. However, it might be that Ruby had always had that in her back of her mind after Weiss said that and it came to the fore in this volume.
@@bluejays25 Oh, I'm sure she did. That and Ozpin's thing right afterwards about "If you're not at your best, how can you expect it from your teammates?" Regardless of what they meant then or would think now, I don't think Ruby's ever forgotten.
Torchwic in this episode was voiced by billy kamets. Who unfortunately died to cancer. He was a great voice actor and it was great hearing him one last time
He got the voice down perfectly. Sad to hear that he passed away.
I was kinda hoping she wouldn’t watch this one 😥 but incase ur reading this, please take care! People love and look forward to ur reactions and talks so much, at least I do! Best episode so far. Depression, in all of its beautiful ugliness. Ruby completely tearing herself down, being filled with doubt and dread, almost as if she's going through the 5 stages of grief (not in its proper order of course.) And Neo!! Using Ruby's past failures to torment her even further, seeing Pyrrha again, the very same person who DIED right in front of her. Penny, who died TWICE, and her 2nd death hit Ruby like a freight train. Those were low blows. Everyone ganging up on Ruby, that's what depression feels like; all your mistakes and shortcoming, beating you to a pulp. And then the "suicide trigger:" Little getting squashed, another innocent being Ruby couldn't save. Roosterteeth really did their homework when it comes to displaying mental health. If you got friends of family with depression, be mindful of what you do, and especially what you say. After experiencing it myself, I would never wish depression on anyone, not even my worst enemy. It's the most dreadful thing..... EVER!!
And Depression a major killer of people.

So much pressure for poor Ruby. Especially bearing in mind that in their eyes, it's been a week at most since Ironwood went insane and ordered their arrests.
And on Ruby letting out her feelings, there were a couple of times she was about to, but something always got in the way.
0:55 The trauma train officially entered the station. This episode, the crew got off, grabbed you by the collar, and tossed you into a wagon.
This is one of the most emotional episodes in RWBY thus far, and it has had an impact on the people watching it too. I hope that you feel alright too.
The saddest part is Neo didnt even know ruby was responsible, she went for cinder first and got persuaded to target Ruby.
She was nothing but vengeance, she didnt even have the presence of mind to grasp that and or let herself pick it apart.
Torchwick's death is more Cinder's fault than Ruby's. Course... It's also more his own fault than anyone else's...
Ive noticed ruby ever so slowly breaking ever since vol6. When her emotions started taking center stage this volume... when i noticed it start to rain as she started crying in the first episode, i knew this was a scary possibility. I knew she would snap, didnt think much it leading to attempting, but it did. Under no disillusions, ruby was hoping to die when she drank the tea.
Next, i want to comment on your own strength. When i first watched this episode, when i watched ruby "die", i broke into full on sobbing, me, 21 year old man bawling his eyes out over a fictional girl attempting suicide, all because i remember "drinking the tea" myself. I couldnt finish this episode. Each ledge, each evenning i pulled my blade out, i flashed right back to it all. You, remained strong and finished the episode. I commend you for that.
"Its not your fault, it never was your fault. You were just there" - a friend, calling me off a ledge.
Stay strong, ruby's renewal is around the corner.

So, I needed to mentally prepare myself for this episode. Had to make sure I was in a somewhat comfortable mental place to rewatch it, and it's still a challenging experience.
"I don't want to be me anymore" was the line that broke me down the first time. I didn't even remember it until Ruby said it again, I literally blacked it out.. or maybe that scene meshed with my own experience when I've been in that same exact spot of laying on the floor of my room in the dark with my face leaking and saying that same exact thing.. I don't know. Whatever the case may be, the writers perfectly personified what it feels like to be in that mental state, and it doesn't even have to be for the same reason Ruby felt, where she didn't feel good enough or worthy of herself. I have my own version, but regardless these feelings are the same.
This episode was violating. Absolutely emotionally violating and I hate how it makes me feel, but at the same time I also feel that it is necessary because representation matters! Being acknowledged matters, being heard when you're being silenced by your own unsaid words means everything.
It's the validation of kindred emotions that brings all of us together and let's us help each other through media such as this, which we can pass on to others that need it as we did.
As I commented on the previous episode, it's nobody's fault Ruby did what she did. Yang isn't a bad sister, her, Blake and Weiss didn't do anything wrong and they ARE sister's to Ruby just as much as Yang is, and Juane was just trying to cope with what he's been through alone for all these years. Ruby's frustration was even justified, but her blame was misplaced. Life is just like that sometimes. Life is like a house of cards. If you balance them correctly, it can remain fairly stable but you can also be the Queen of a castle that's precariously balanced together. The more responsibilities you give yourself, the more you stack and just a small gust of wind could cause everything to collapse.
It's all about balance. This is one of Vol. 9, messages. It's about achieving equilibrium by balancing the good and the bad. To accept your failures, but also gain wisdom from them and to celebrate your victories. Celebrate yourself, and those around you because that what it means to truly live. It's the value of suffering that puts into perspective how truly dazzling life can become. This is why the final two episodes mean so much to us who have suffered. There is hope. There is a way forward. Even if you return to who you were before, if you gained something from that experience, are you the really same person you were before?
In the lyrics to Inside, the message for Neo was balance. "We must live with balance but balance is blind" was Neo being blinded by her vengeance from losing Torchwick and needing to blame someone. When she succeeded, that precarious balance was completely lost.
In Roman Holiday, it was how to achieve beauty by harmonizing through thirds. She took over the Jabberwalker, the Cat took over her, the Jabberwalker(s) took over the Cat. That's balance. This is what was missing.
I have a theory that Neo will become the Queen of Balance of the Ever After, accepting both roles of the Jabberwalker & Cat. It's fitting, that after the Brother's created the Cat & Jabberwalker they left the Ever After and created humans together capable to choosing either light or darkness. Humanity being their third creation. Neo being the piece that was missing.
You should never apologize for how you are dealing with this episode. It is not an easy episode to watch and I think you are very brave for watching both the previous episode and this episode when you are dealing with your own mental health. We haven't met and probably will never meet but you are an amazing bright lovely person with a fantastic singing voice! and i'm certain you have people around you who do care and love you for who you are
There's so much you said here that I'm nowhere near knowledgeable enough to respond to, but there's one thing I had to say. Even if you don't have your own mental health sorted out, even if you don't have answers to the problems you talk about, you still have experience with them. What you have to say is still valid, valuable, and valued.
(But don't think you owe us that. Share as little or as much as you want, and if it's too hard to keep with this then take a break or step away from reacting. We like your reactions (that's why we're here) but your first responsibility is to yourself.)
I'm not new to RWBY, but I'm new to your channel. I gotta say you got a great voice singing along and Casey's vocals are tough. Also, this was the most difficult episode for me because I related to Ruby too much. I was on a dark path myself when it came to thoughts of suicide and watching the one person from this show become so broken that she was pushed that far, how did I have any hope? But like Ruby in the last few episodes, she found her path, had her friends, she made it. This episode was heartbreaking for sure

I knew based on your reaction to ep7, that this one was going to hurt as well. I really was worried that this one was going to be worse for you and was dreading the scenes with pyra, penny, little and oz along with the tea drinking. It did seem, at least to me, that you handled the stress much better this go around maybe due to your prep before watching (brilliant idea having people close to you close by)
As for the episode itself.. with all the sadness aside my absolute favorite part was your jump scare reaction to torchwick in the painting which was so adorable and entertaining.
I’ve had a theory for awhile that little’s “purpose” in the everafter is to save Ruby.
Anyway. Glad you are doing better after back to back traumatic episodes…. I believe the next two won’t be as dark and some closure/renewal is coming around the corner…

Has anyone noticed that neo kind of has the same semblance as Ruby the only difference between the two are Ruby's comes and kind of like a rose petal form while neo kind of has like a stardust form

No. When the god of light unleashed his silver eyes in 6-3, it didn't affect the god of darkness at all.

Thank you for explaining at 36:05; the Paper Pleasers played too close to suicide while just *barely* not with their context (they know how they'll ascend, they're a part of a world that doesn't make sense, etc.) whereas Ruby's suicide... is played up realistically. I'm sorry, it's just that a lot of suicidal people (and sick people supporting it) look for justifications for that sort of thing; I hope Rooster Teeth didn't give anyone any.
I talk about it more in episode 9 but I don’t think Ruby wanted to die, she wanted the Ruby Rose she was to disappear. She wanted to be literally anyone else. She looked terrified at the prospect of death, but she still doesn’t want to be herself anymore.

It took me almost a full month to sit down and watch the whole episode. I watched ep 9 and 10 when they came out.. but ep 8 was a different beast. As someone who spent YEARS dealing with PTSD, and the suffocating belief that I had done everything wrong in life, and thinking the people that weren't with me were constantly judging me was just too much. The moment I saw Ruby take the cup I was shouting and shouting at my computer for her to not do it, screaming at WBY and Jaune for doing nothing, and when she drank the cup I ended up smashing down on my desk causing my computer to tip over and shut my system off.
This is only the 2nd episode that truly truly got under me. Vol 8 finale did it too, but not cause of Penny.. It was watching qrow panicking calling out to Ruby and Yang and getting no reply. As a Father, my single greatest fear is that I call out for my children and hear nothing and no not knowing why.

I too have struggled with my mental health since the Lockdowns in the uk made me feel Isolated and alone for 3 years that’ll do anyone but I’ve been finding myself in a better place now a days. But I will say this to anyone who’s been struggling don’t bottle up your emotions reach out to your friends and family for support it’s never easy to do I know but it dose trust me bin the done that more times than I can count. Sorry about what you went through in the past Ave_r_e I hope your well and happy by the way you have a Lovely Singing Voice ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I saw your last video and I was almost crying 😢 myself you see I have Autism and I seriously can’t stand seeing someone in distress like that not your fault at all I have compassion for one’s around me and I can’t stand by while anyone cry’s like that I was going to ask you were ok but I didn’t want to seem Condescending I was more concerned if anything. But I do understand where you’re coming from life is hard crap & definitely sucks 😑😑. I wanted to comment here... Because... I was afraid of many things... Like toxic fans attacking me...
I'm gonna be frank. I was meant to comment under your BB Episode video, because I thought that episode for me was the dropout. No offense to the BB Shippers, who are decent. Through the past weeks, I met with some decent people and I discussed it. And after seeing Yang and Blake kiss, I had very mixed feels... This is my honest opinion. Please, don't hate me for it.
But then... I watched Chapter 7 and Chapter 8. Oh man... They came out too offensive for me... 😔😔 I felt terrible for Ruby, and ultimately blamed the others, for not helping her... I know how depression feels in the first place... 😢 And when Ruby was about to drink the tea... I was literally shouting for someone... To save her... And when V9 ended and I brought up that suicide shouldn't be treated as a joke, I unintentially ended up hurting someone... 🥺
Overall: V9 had many wasted potential... Many certain elements... That was crossing the line...

Danger of FALSE positivity. Ruby clearly has been suffering depression and been torn apart from when her mother went MIA. Red like Roses clearly is Ruby. So even before being made a leader Ruby has played the up person when she's not. Ruby's Asexuality likely from depression she finds no desire for romance and sex because she's depressed. Asexuality has many causes it's not like being Gay/Lesbian/Trans a genetic only status. And many causes of Asexuality can be hidden physical or repressed abuse.
It is likely that Ruby lifted from her depresion will shift back to a up cheary person a lot of the time but she's not the True Always Positive person for whom being always up is their nature and not bad for them. (not me it seams I share a lot of mental conditions with our host)
Around 20 percent of population cannot ever get depressed even if sent to Nazi death camp to die. Many of these people survived having more mental thus physical energy they were picked out to be trustees to handle the dead bodies and other horrible tasks. Although the mental strength they were born with handles I'm sure the attacks by the rest of us on them as fake it still bad that Truly Always Positive people get attacked by the rest of us for being who they are.
In the death camps of course they would not be happy but they would try to lift others as much as they could.
I cannot stress this enough: Asexuality is merely another sexual orientation, like homosexuality, heterosexuality, etc.; it has *nothing* to do with depression. (Yes, depression can dampen one's libido, but that's a completely different thing from asexuality.) Also, while I know that I am not alone in headcanoning Ruby as ace, it is just that - a headcanon. It's not been confirmed by Rooster Teeth at any point. Nor is it by any means clear that Ruby's current mental health problems stem from the disappearance of her mother, or if they were brought on more recently (i.e. with the Fall of Beacon), as we never get any indication of any mental struggles during the Beacon arc.
As for the idea of people who cannot ever get depressed...it _may_ be true, but there are some dangerous assumptions going on there. One is, of course, that depression stems solely from having to deal with difficult or traumatic events, which has never been proven to be the case; relatedly, we can never know if that's true, because it's up to the detainees to _report_ feelings of depression, which the dead can't and which the survivors faced a cultural stigma against doing. But most importantly, even if the whole "Truly Always Happy" people exist, what they have is mental _resilience,_ *not* _strength._ Framing it as "mental strength" that the rest of us lack is just another way of blaming the mentally ill for their own condition, which is untrue and unfair. And the idea that _we're_ attacking _them_ for "being who they are" is just utterly ridiculous, given that we live in a culture that treats them (whether or not they exist) as the ideal and us as the aberration.
Homosexuality isn't genetic. A developing baby is default female, but then gets converted to male if y chromosome is present. Same for the brain. There are multiple neural structures that together make up sexual identity, and they grow at different times, and are female by default. They will be flipped to male if exposed to adrenal hormones during growth. And so there is a lot of variation in how every individual grows. It is definitely not just hetero or homo, we are not digital, we are analog, a spectrum. And we are born that way.
All of it is Ruby's fault she was the leader. And her actions in many places were very poor.
So you have to take a different tact. You have to take the tack you did your best Ruby that is all anyone can ask of you. Leadership is your skill along with your Silver eyes the world needs you still you must accept even great leaders can make many mistakes get thousands unnecessarily killed yet it their duty to go on. You have not been give the breaks and rest you needed to recover that not your fault. We value and love you and we will try harder to listen to you and you will try harder to open up and talk.
We can't promise any future result but we love you and we will support you going forward. Simply getting some time off this will look better than it is.
The brother gods don't seam like type to make Ever After but maybe they were creations in Ever After who have escaped.
