This song has been with me since its release 1990 - so special, unique! I am 55 years of age now. I will continue to carry it with me, not trying to comparing it to anything - it is simply Queensryche. ;-) And darn good!
Same here bro..
This is a Queensryche ballad, and they have a few, but they usually incorporate edgy, maybe slightly ominous tones as well.
They are very diverse in the music they write. Please listen to "TAKE HOLD OF THE FLAME" Live in Tokyo ,1984 to hear the other side of QR. In their earlier releases Geoff sang primarily in his higher register, for which he's famous. He hits three E5's in Take Hold. Beautiful tone, vibrato, expression, power, and intensity. You can run out of adjectives with a guy like Geoff!
Original lineup Queensryche is my favorite band in the universe! And they KILL it live!
"Silent Lucidity" was an early 90"s release, but yeah, coming out of the 80's. Love the 80's!
They are a band that makes you FEEL. Not all bands can achieve that.
All right, here is your assignment ( which you will thank me for later):
The entire, in sequence, highly acclaimed "OPERATION: MINDCRIME". It is a concept album of theirs that tells one long, intriguing, story in flashback. Spectacular music and lyrics..1988. They have live footage of the full album too.
I've been listening to it for over three decades, and it never gets old!
(I'll be looking forward to your thank you card in the mail.) 😊
YES, GO ROGUE ON QR! So MANY GREAT songs!!
I love your reaction to them! Chills don't lie! I can tell you're going to appreciate them .
Can't wait for you to do another QR reaction! I'll be watching.
(The middle section is instructions on how to achieve dream control.) Definitely always have lyrics handy with QR. They're worth hearing.
Your comment sounds as if you compare QR with David GILMOR in Pink Floyd. You wouldn’t be wrong- he gets you to think dream- imagine, get to know your mind.
I ADORE Queensryche. My mom got me into them since she grew up listening to them. Their Album Empire is my favorite rock album of all time
I don't think anyone else sounds like Geoff Tate. This is one of my favorite songs ever, depending on what's going on in my life it can bring me to tears. But my favorite album by them is Rage for Order. I love the darkness in it all.
Someone may have already commented on this but... the reason it reminds you on Floyd is because Michael Kamen produced this song. The song is flawless. A stunning MASTERPEICE! Ryche on for sure
Here's what the voice around 9:40 is saying:
"I can't do this
Visualize your dream, record it in the present tense
Put it into a permanent form
If you persist in your efforts, you can achieve dream control
How's that then, better?
Dream control, dream control
Help me"
Nice, thanks for that!!!!
That song is a masterpiece. The Brahms lullaby at the final is the cherry on top of cake.
This song, the voice are magnificent...❤
Queensryche has their own sound. They came from Seattle so didn’t come from the LA scene like most 80’s bands. Another Rainy Night (Without You), Jet City Woman, Best I Can, Anybody Listening?, and Empire are all great songs. Empire is my favorite album though most consider Operation Mind Crime, which is a concept album, their best. Empire came out on August 20, 1990.
I own Empire, the album that this song is on. Some great tracks on that album including Jet City Woman and the title track as mentioned by others. This song is probably their most well known but they have been around for a long time. Well worth a catalog exploration. Their sound trends more towards 80s rock/metal.
Edit
Silent Lucidity was written after (I think it was the lead guitarist) read a book on lucid dreaming.
I forgot to mention one of my favorites off the album. Another Rainy Night (Without You).
Edit2 Spoken part, The help mes are whispered and the "feeling today" line is done in a voice that makes me think of a doctor or researcher.
Visualize your dream
record it in the present tense
put it into permanent form
if you persist in your efforts
you can achieve dream control
(help me) Dream control
how are we feeling today, better?
Dream control (help me)
Dream control (help me)
Dream control (help me)
Dream control (help me)
It was SO wonderful to hear this again! Thank you! I love that you’ve through this you tube that you do has given YOU the chance to hear this also!!!
I love this song. It’s absolutely mesmerizing. Singer’s voice is an absolute surprise every time I hear it.
Visualize your dream, record it in the present tense, put into a permanent form, if you persist in your efforts you can achieve dream control
Geoff Tate is unreal. So unique and very clear and strong vocals. A little theatrical like David Draiman versus David Bowie. On my playlist for years. When you get the "chill factor" we know its a getting in deep.
I have my Bose quiet comfort earbuds in at night. Total noise canceling. I have many playlists for sleep.
React to Steelheart I’ll Never Let You Go (angel eyes). Talk about a range.

Dream control, dream control, dream control...
This is my first time hearing this band. You’re right that they have a Pink Floyd sound; it feels like everything is floating. So glad you chose this today. Great reaction!
My interpretation: he's my spirit guide comforting me. Helping me through my intense grief.
You kept pausing it and missed the " hush"
I will be getting a tattoo on my left shoulder " I'm smiling next to you" I look over my left shoulder and see my deceased parents, who I miss terribly, smiling at me .
I listen to this song often. I'm reduced to a puddle of tears everytime I listen. I'm just so heartbroken. :(
*PLEASE* listen to their *Unplugged* session, songs like *I Will Remember, Della Brown* and *The Killing Words* 🙏🏻
You need to dig deep into Queensryche Operation: Mindcrime!
One of the greatest concept albums you'll ever listen to.
The album was written back in 87...but the subject matter is eerily relevant to today's world!
Another great one from these guys is "Anybody Listening?"
Me, 09/13/24, tagaytay phillippines..
A song about lucid dreaming, among other things. I can't remember which reactor pointed it out, but the cellos at the end of the song play the melody of the "go to sleep my baby" lullaby.
Nice catch!!!!!
I have always loved this song! It’s one of my all time favorites. We are about the same age and I am shocked you never heard it. It was played so much.
The live version from the mtv music awards is a must see.
Great reaction!! What a beautiful song from these guys.
Amazing song that was nominated for a Grammy in 1992. As far as his voice is concerned, it has a hint of opera in it as you will see in other songs of theirs. The band is pretty hard, though, so if you're going into more songs imagining a Pink Floyd sound, I think they will change that narrative pretty quickly. Lol.
Nice to see you got goose bumps out of it! :)Listen to QR: Rage from Order.
It's Dream "control." A Dad teaching his daughter how to change it.
This song was from 91 Empire album. Definitely progressive rock. Operation Mincdrime is REQUIRED listening. Get ready for a road trip.
David Bowie mixed with Pink Floyd.
Excellent analogy!
Great song, great reaction.
To check out his unbelievable vocal range, check out "Take hold of the flame", live in Japan.
It. Is. FIRE!
I just stumbled upon you. Wow you’re ere is great! Im just amazed as songwriter and producer that you have ever enjoyed this band!
Thanks so much for your kind words! Welcome to the Rabbit Hole!
Released in 1991. I love the sound bites from Hellraiser 2.
This is my dad’s favorite song. Growing up in the 90s this is the kind of music my mom and dad loved. Brings back good memories thank you Larry ❤
Nice!
How can you say that you were listening to rock back then and never heard this song?
I get it if your in uour20’s but come on this song was on radio probably more than any other song for about a year
@@richardtrevino5516 I’m 32 idk what you’re talking about lol
@@richardtrevino5516back then was when I was younger growing up. My dads loved this band and played them all the time as a child and even an adult. And also heard it on the radio a lot too
Saw them open for Dio in '84, I believe, in Evansville, IN...fantastic show with two world class vocalist!
Bruuh... would you forgive me for falling asleep in the middle of your reaction? Lol 😅 because that's exactly what happened. I started watching it, and now here I am 5hrs later watching it again. Guess my body really needed to rest after working for 17h straight again and this time I got cut out. Next time I'm gonna watch your video standing to not let it happen again, lol 😅 Really loved to see you enjoy the song so much! Your smile is contagious my friend!
And of course I loved the reaction!
Great song 👍👍 love Queensryche.
You should really listen to their other songs as well..."Empire" or "Jet City Woman" just to start. 😎
You have a super 👂 ear because you can hear greatness 🙌 check out Take hold of the flame live in Tokyo 84 simply a 10 of 10 LIVE!!!!!!!!
He is saying "Dream Control"
I am pretty sure the song is about how sad it is to lose a loved one, but if you can control your dreams, you can always be with them even in the afterlife. So it makes it less stressful and painful if you can see them in your dreams. I could be wrong though
From all the artists you named and threw in Top Gun! You can’t give this a 10 or decide it’s so great it spills over to an 11. It’s a multi-10!
If you like this version of Queensryche then you should listen to I will Remember
Also i grew up floyd and fearless off of meddle has always been my favorite song.
Record your dreams in present tense, and turn to a permanent flow. If we persist in our efforts, we can achieve dream control.
I agree with you Larry. The music and background vocals kind of give me Kansas vibes.
Right? It fits in that genre like a glove.
Geoff Tate still has it after all these years. His vocals are just pure perfection!
Geoff Tate is 1 of my favorite vocalists of all time across all genres
Listen to "Operation Mindcrime." QueensRyche is a progressive rock band...considered in the top 3 albums ever. Listen to it in order...its a rock opera and it is amazing...especially on the tracks Operation Mindcrime, Suite Sister Mary, i don't believe in Love, and Eyes of a Stranger....you will NOT be disappointed. Geoff Tates voice will take you along and grab you tight! Do it!! Please!!!
The instructions
Are hard to hear- I get it’s telling you how to ready your mind and let your soul take it
Way (?) in your head.
ITS READY- set your soul to fly.
It’s deep for sure stuff. Love ❤️ it
Dream control.
If you haven't checked them out before, I would like to suggest Sisters of Mercy.
"More", "Ribbons", "Detonation Boulevard" or "Vision Thing".
it says dream control they do have a lyric video.
I hope you like Home Free enough to listen to the real Austin Brown with his solo of "Bring Him Home". He sings all types of music but this is the Real Austin Brown!!!!
Check out the album "Operation Mindcrime 1&2 by Queensryche! Geoff Tate is the vocalist.
I second this recommendation; it's an anthology, in that the songs tell a story.
It's like a movie in your head.
Chill city.. excellence.
And 🙋♂️ another one who went to sleep with Floyd in their ears.
It's a shame Geoff Tate isn't with them anymore. It has to be different now. Not in the good way. He has amazing pipes.
If I feel like a cry I sometimes go here.😢
Thank you for letting me take this ride again.
I have a reaction request. The entire album "Dimensionaut" by Sound of Contact. That band features Kelly Nordstrom (guitars), Matt Dorsey (guitars), Dave Kerzner (synths) and Simon Collins (lead vocals and drums). Simon is the eldest son of singer, songwriter and Genesis drummer Phil Collins. Dave played with a prog rock band called Giraffe, who did an abridged version of Genesis' "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" at Progfest 1994. Stunning!!!
Try the song "Real World" by queensryche. Its amazing
Id love to hear you talk about pink floyd final cut or peter gabriel come talk to me
Okay you need to go down this road. I have seen this band live 4 or 5 times, first in 91, last in 2002 I think only because I stopped going to concerts. I have seen legendary acts live and not one of them matched the quality of this band, not even close.
I'd suggest listening to their concept album called operation Mindcrime which tells a story as tge album goes along.
The singer Geoff Tate has a top 5 rock voice of all time but this song does not highlight that at all...try "queen of the Reich " to get that experience, especially the live in Tokyo version
They split in like 2008 or so and the band has a new singer but it's nit the same since the two biggest contributing song writers(DeGarmo and Tate) are gone.
I'm kinda shocked this is your first time as this song was very, very, very popular in 90 or 91.
You can achieve “dream control “
Full Floyd I really thought this was a new pink floyd song first time I heard it. This is strait out of rodger waters playbook. Listen to the underlying voices and the music.
Did you happen to catch Braham's Lullaby at the end with the double bass strings?
good jam queens fur sure
Day 2 asking for Kanye family business. Pls Larry you’ll love it 🙏
something bout intense thats only word i caught outside of mumble
Sir michael kaymen conducted both this song comfortably numb
sounds r kinda before time here but this reactor knows i feel great react
Been listening to a lot of your reactions for a while now, this is an amazing channel! Very fun and insightful.
I would like to suggest a group you might not know at all yet, but I think you will enjoy:
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score (Live at Wacken) here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/v-deo.html
I'm really curious about how you might feel about this band. :D
The single greatest “slow” song by a rock band. Def not a rock balled…that distinction goes to Scorpions (still loving you) Queensryche was heavily influenced by Pink Floyd. They dipped their toes a lot into Prog Rock
Psst... hey... it's me again...
I got a little something for you! Unfortunately I can't afford anything fancy yet, and the cost of shipping to the other side of the globe alone is probably ten times more than this little gift but heck it... I saw it today and I had to buy it. I think you may like it. I'll try to send it next week 😉
Awww man, you don't have to do that! Your friendship is more than enough for me!
@@larryshair Thanks! I'm really flattered to hear that. But hey, it's a little gift to (I hope...) make you smile. You know I'm still gonna repay you one day, right? I promised you that! 😉
Thete's no synth - it's an orchestra
Sounds like Queensryche
You have to listen without interruption to get the full impact of this beautiful song❤
Sorry but Bowie never sounded this good.
lost me after visualize your dream
get something small but couple things just so spread out the pain til u used to it detailed is more painful on tats least on me
Can’t ….. take……. the……. pauses……. 😳
Buena reacción
Queensryche es una de las bandas subestimadas de la historia del rock
Saludos
