My 15 year old daughter catches me listening to this. She loves it. It has made a bond between us like nothing else. She said when I’m gone & she feels sad she is going to listen to it & cry “happy tears” thinking of me. I told her I will be standing next to her smiling.

Man, this song has been with me since its release 1990. I am born 1968 and now 55 years old. For me - one of the best I have heard, still! I am glad you like it! 🙂

Geoff Tate is one of the greatest singers, of any genre, of all time. Absolutely insane levels of talent and skill. Check out all of the Queensryche catalog - I HIGHLY recommend anything from the albums 'Rage for Order' and 'Operation: Mindcrime'. Both are *amazing* albums, every song a banger.

Nice reaction! It IS a beautiful song, lyrically, musically, and vocally!
Geoff ( pronounced Jeff), is my favorite singer on the planet! Original lineup Queensryche cannot be topped IMO!
Queensryche is pronounced: Queens-rike ( like bike). Not to worry, everyone has trouble with it at first. 😜
As others have suggested, listen to " TAKE HOLD OF THE FLAME" Live in Tokyo 1984. It will show you another side of what this amazing band can do! And Geoff hits three E5's that are beautifuly sung, not screamed. The whole band is tight and awesome!
The entire concept album called "OPERATION: MINDCRIME". is a must. Beginning to end, one long story told in flashback. Fantastic!
I enjoyed hearing your thoughts about the band and this song! I agree with everything you said!
Dive in a little deeper, you won't be sorry. This is an exceptionally talented band!

Saw Geoff Tate/Queensryche open for Dio in 1984/85 in Evansville, IN two of the best vocalists to ever live...along with Steve Perry, Rik Emmett, Steve Walsh, Robin Zander, Paul Rodgers, Ian Gillan, etc...

In the period from the 80s to the 90s, Queensryche had songs with powerful lyrics whose writing was very thoughtful,
    My favorite of them:
    - Someone Else
    - Take Hold Of The Flame
    - Anybody Listening?
    - Roads To Madness
    - Child Of Fire
    - Best I Can

Geoff Tate lead singer, Chris DeGarmo guitar, Michael Wilton guitar, Scott Rockenfield drums, and Eddie Jackson, the great bass player. And that's the original lineup for Queensryche. One of the most influential bands ever. There's a ton of great songs from Queensryche. This song was up for a couple of grammies the year it came out. This is one of their tame songs, Take Hold Of The Flame and Queen of the Reich, which are just the opposite.

Lyric back in the day could be offensive from our perspective, but not in the same way so much. Plenty of old songs talked about the 'virtues' of underage girls for example.
