I'm fascinated at your ability to hone in on the smallest details in the arrangements and instrumentation, not just the vocals. I've listened to many of these songs for years and watching your videos makes me feel like I'm hearing these songs again for the first time. That's a beautiful thing.
I’ve long thought this is one of the most well-composed, arranged and beautiful power ballads of all time, a triumph of songwriting. And kudos for catching the drum fill that is intended to match “the walls you built… come tumbling down”. I caught that some time ago but most seem to miss it. It’s ultimately another reason why this song is a tremendous composition.
And at the very end, the low strings play a lullaby: "go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep little baby..." There's just so much to listen to and listen for in this song.
This is another song that is hard for me to hear. Not long after it's release, my girl friend passed away from breast cancer. I spent weeks with this song on repeat. So, while I love to see your reactions and hearing your analysis, I don't promise I won't cry a little.
This song really surprises people... when they realize Geoff Tate is actually a bass-baritone and not the tenor he pretends to be on a lot of songs. The dude has such awesome control up into tenor range for someone who has such a deep voice naturally.
He sang a question without a raised eyebrow?! Jesus.. I have loved this song for 33 years and never noticed that. Bloody hell. My eye brow raises now everytime i sing along. Love Queensryche. Thank You for another spectacular review.
Lolli! Ive been waiting to hear you react to this song since Julia suggested it!! And you didn't disappoint! Your observations and little bits of information are immensely interesting, entertaining, informative, and satisfying! Geoff's ability to sing ANYTHING always thrills me! His tone and control and expression are just out of this world! (I'm gushing, aren't I ) No one conveys feelings the way he does! (and the gushing continues). I too noticed how the drums and strings "came tumbling down" in a reflection of the lyrics. As I'm sure you know, Michael Kaman did the orchestral arrangement, which was PERFECT! In an interview, Geoff said the record company wasnt very keen to include "Silent Lucidity" on the Empire album, but that he and Chris ( who wrote it) pushed for it, and when the orchestration was added, the execs got on board too. THANK YOU so much, for your delightful breakdown of my FAVORITE band and SINGER in the multiverse! PLEASE do more! If you're up for it, deep breath, a whole album reaction of "Operation: Mindcrime" which is a concept album consisting of one long, very well-told story, with excellent songs throughout! It would be spectacular if you and Julia could do another collaboration....but that may not be possible. Still, LOT'S of great QR songs to explore! "Roads to Madness" (studio version) is Geoff at his most expressive! Ive gone on too long again, thanks again for an amazing reaction! 😝
Yours is the best reaction video of many, you have such insight and clever observations. Still you maintain your own humour and personality, I really liked this!
I literally get so happy when a new video from you pops up in my subs list! Not only are you super knowledgable, but you make it so entertaining and easy to learn new things. Thank you!
I am looking forward to this one. You are one of the most fun reactors to watch and I certainly appreciate that. I am still anxiously awaiting for the day that you react to these three amazing sisters from Mexico called The Warning. I’m certain you have heard of them because I’m guessing you don’t live under a rock and they are quite an upcoming rock ‘n’ roll group. Make it a great day, peace. ✌️
They are great, but which songs to begin with? Something from the latest album to show where they are now or something older to show what they have developed from? I suppose Metallicas 'Enter Sandman' both old and new versions? That would showcase their growing abilities.
I've listened to this song thousands of times over the past few decades, and I must say that your musical and lyrical insights have helped to to hear and experience this song in a new and refreshing light. You're brilliant and oh so gorgeous!
I love how this song is so very different from Take hold of the flame. And it really helps to understand the singer and the band. The fun thing is. Silent Lucidity became a really big hit, and was on all the charts. But it almost didn't make it unto the album. Because until a few weeks before the deadline, all there was was a acoustic guitar and vocals. So the manager said that maybe they should delay it and use it for another album, because it did not sound complete. But the guitarist who wrote the song really loved it, and the band loved it. So they wanted it on the album. So they pushed to have it finished and had the backing track added shortly before release. And then the manager loved it to, and it was added to the album. And that means when you said the composition is clearly the acoustic guitar, and the voice. And the rest is just like sonic decoration. You where more right than you have any right to be. Clearly it must be that wand giving up some magical powers. Because that is in fact all the song was at first.
This song is probably my most watched on reaction channels and this one was by far the best!! She really knows what she's talking about and pointed out things that I don't think I ever noticed before. Another great vocal performance by Geoff is I Will Remember from the MTV unplugged show.
This is why I love this kind of reaction video - it's educational. Queensryche are one of my favourite bands on the planet, I believe Rage for Order through to Promised Land is arguably the best four album stretch in rock music history. But you've made me see/hear things in this song that I didn't notice in the previous 5879 times I've listened to it (especially since I'm not a singer's left arse cheek), so thank you! Please do 'Suite Sister Mary', from Operation: Mindcrime. It's another absolute vocal tour de force from GT, but with the added bonus of the incredible contribution of the fabulous Pamela Moore.
Best live band I've ever seen (pre-breakup) and I've seen many/most of the greats of the last 30 years. For the next dive into Geoff's vocals I recommend MTV Unplugged "I Will Remember" (my favorite from this show), "Della Brown", and "The Lady Wore Black". Stripped down to mostly acoustic it really highlights his incredible vocal control and placement mastery.
Yes! I own the MTV Unplugged show uncut, which is FABULOUS! My recommendation from that show is " The Killing Words". After the guitar solo there is a part that shows how fearless a singer Geoff is. You'll know which part when you hear it. They altered that delivery from the studio version. "I Will Remember" is great too! "Della Brown" is also a bit of a bluesy song about a homeless person. They also do a cover of "Scarborough Fair" that's cool! They do it acoustically here, but also have a fully amplified version as well. I too have been fortunate enough to see the original lineup of Queensryche play live many times! Over decades of concert going, theirs were the BEST LIVE PERFORMANCES I'd ever seen!
I got to see the Empire show in Edmonton... where they threw in "Operation Livecrime" as a BONUS... was not billed, or advertised. The opening act, did 3 songs, and left... we had Queensryche for 2 straight hours.... MINDBLOWING :) Love this band :) I had front row center for that show... could have spoken with the band I was so close. My fave concert to date :)
@@walter_cdn_white I totally agree! BEST concert EVER! The first time I went to see them after discovering them (Empire/Mindcrime tour), I was so afraid of being too far away from the stage that I got my ticket from a "ticket agent" (basically scalper) and paid the enormous sum (back then) of $300. But the seat was 3rd row, center! HEAVEN! I don't regret any of the money I spent over the years to see them. Worth every cent, every time!
You are EXTREMELY good at what you do, breaking the song into parts that I wouldn't have "bothered" to notice, had you not so expertly exposed them in this way. Very well done, educational fun! Geoff Tate is definitely one of my top picks for favorite vocalist, and such a great inspiration to so many (amateur/professional) vocalists (such as the wonderful, brilliantly talented Brittney Slayes;)! Thank you, FGM, for this wonderful exploration! Take care!
Love this song, played it to death along with the rest of album in the car when it came out. So nice to see the smile on your face while listening. Spreading happiness with your reaction. Its weird, I havent heard this for many years but I still know all the little bits of the song like i only heard it yesterday. Brings back some great memories Thankyou x
Your knowledge of not just the vocals but the overall construction of the songs in these videos is that of a seasoned veteran, well beyond your years. In otherwords, I'm a new sub. You hooked me. Good job.

Criminally underrated group. Geoff and Co. made such great, artistic music. And Silent Lucidity in my mind is a symphonic song incognito in a rock song.
Been waiting for this since your introduction to Queensryche, was worth it! 😂 The entire "Queensryche Live In Tokyo" concert is on youtube and is the best live performances you will ever hear. Song after song Geof Tate is just amazing.
Geoff tate is the man that changed my whole approach to vocals. As i listened with headphones i felt my own vocal cords fall into place and my resonance unlocked. I went to a classic teacher with walk in the shadows and she laughed at me. I went to an opera trainer and I learned so much in 3 lessons just by hearing him. Take has an amazing bounce in his attack and a "Chirp" in the highs... He is the MAn

This song brought me here.. so beautiful. I love jeffs voice. Im glad you enjoyed it. I saw them in the 90s and it was the best stage show i have EVER seen. Im glad you loved them.
Beyond professional analysis, your reaction videos are so visceral and your empathy shatters the roof, I'm drunk so you know I'm being honest, I frickin LOVE your channel. Hope you're having a great day 💛
What I love about true artists is that you can’t fit them into one clear box. I love when people discover that the same group that brought you Into the Eyes of a Stranger also can switch it up entirely and level you with Silent Lucidity. That’s the power and palette of an incredible artist such as Queensryche and the vocal performance of Geoff Tate in particular! Enjoy!
This song is an absolute masterpiece and this reaction was absolutely entertaining! You should check out Roy Khan, especially from his Kamelot days, similar voice and very influenced by Tate. He was unbelievably good in his prime, anything from the Cold Winter's Night live show is worth watching, although the Elizabeth trilogy would be my first suggestion.
This is because Geoff Tate is a natural baritone able to get up to 5 octaves and drop suddenly with the bass and then raise his tonality again. Geoff uses the voice as a real instrument of which he is a skilled teacher even today. Queensryche together with Fates Warning, Savatage and Rush and then move to Dream Theater were among the precursors of progressive metal, Chris De garmo himself is not only a great guitarist singer, this band did not have after the early 90s the resonance that really deserved
The song was written by Guitarist Chris DeGarmo as a lullaby of sorts to his daughter. He developed a fascination with lucid dreaming around the time. Don't quote me on this, but I believe I heard she used to suffer nightmares (although I guess a lot of kids do. I know I did when I was very young.) The song was his way of offering comfort and assuring her he was there. Interestingly, Riley DeGarmo has since grown into a beautiful and talented songstress herself. I believe you can find some of her stuff on here. Some even featuring Chris accompanying her.
Great reaction! I really appreciate that the whole band (apart from Scott Rockenfield) worked on their background vocals together. They all went to Geoff Tate's vocal coach to help them with their harmonies. I honestly believe that's why their vocals sounded so great live. I would love to see a collaboration reaction with Julia on Queensryche's "Operation: Livecrime" video or the "Operation: Mindcrime" album in their entirety!
All I can say is it's about time and I mean that in the most respectable way hun! The man is in my eyes a siren ( yes I said that) and I'm sad that him and the band had a fallen out a few years back. I've tried to listen to the new singer and as much of a great singer he is, he's not Geoff. But I'm glad you finally got the chance to hear his masterpiece!💋🌹
i watch a lot of reaction videos, but it's nice to watch people who know what they are talking about and can actually sing. You are one of my favorites and i hope you keep doing what you are doing. Very informative and for someone my age it's nice to see someone of your generation enjoying music from mine. Queensryche was awesome.
Im gonna be honest & say hearing Voice Fairy savor all of saying,"Cl-AHHH-ssy" like a whole note in a 4/4 measure composition with that jaunty-so-posh, treat to your ears accent, hand to God did the same thing to me as those ambient swells did for her early on🫠. The candor in Voice Fairys' takes have inspired me immensely. So I'm going to come clean and say I skipped back 3 times just to hear the music in that single word☺️
That amazing string arrangement was by Michael Kamen (may he rest in peace). He has done many incredible rock n roll string arrangements, including Metallica "Nothing Else Matters". He was the best...
THIS WITHOUT A DOUBT, WAS THE BEST REACTION I HAVE EVER WITNESSED. AS AN ARTIST AND MUSICIAN, I ENJOYED EACH PARTICLE OF EVERY SECOND OF THIS. AND MAY I SAY, YOU ARE EXTREMELY BREATH TAKING, SO BEAUTIFUL AND YOUR PASSION OF MUSIC, MELTS MY SOUL. WOW!
I love what you do. When this was toured in Rochester, New York, it was the final song of the show. After all the hard hitting heavy shredding songs it was flawless.
This was originally just Geoff and acoustic and right before the album release they decided to add the rest of the music… brilliant decision. Great reaction.. new sub…Rock On 👊😎🤘
I really appreciate the great job your doing increasing the production quality of your videos--splicing in extra videos/pieces of the one your reacting to, more little effects & things, Really nice! My favorite Queensryche album is "Promised Land," which ends with a similar song called "Someone Else?" Powerful lyrics, awesome vocals, well-arranged. You'll love it too.
I know I'm far behind on the recording of this but would love for you to explore the Rage For Order album. Released before Mindcrime. Geoff is absolutely astonishing on it. The Killing Words, I Dream in Infrared, Neue Regel, London. Even if you listen to it on your own time , that would make me happy and you'll thank me!
When I saw this I was so happy to know Loli was going to get to hear it. And love it. So thanks to You Loli for your analysis and thank you, Julia for instigating. Love you both.
Loved this song. My friend Steve introduced me to the band back when the album this track was on first came out. Can't remember every track on it now, but I know that this and Empire were a couple of songs off it that I really loved. Sure there were others, but that is a lot of years ago.
WOO HOO! Been not so patiently waiting for this one. I’ve got a brisket going on the smoker and didn’t think my day could get any better but here we are. I’m so excited.

I haven’t read through all of the comments yet and I’m about halfway through the video. I love these reaction videos from vocal coaches. This song in particular is one of my favorites to watch, as well as the one you did for Take Hold of the Flame. The main guitarist in the video, Chris Degarmo, wrote this song for his daughter when she was just a baby. Queensrÿche fans know this, I’m just sharing it for those who have never been exposed to their music.

My first time on this channel. This girl is wonderful. A terrific reaction/analysis to an equally great song. Her knowledge is to be expected, but her ear is truly a pleasant surprise. Add to that, she's easy on the eyes and has a fun sense of humor. Well done... subscribed!
Your abilities to show all the things that make a song and how the singer is surrounded by so much that effects the total of all the parts that create the song. Also showing his vocal qualities, Total class young lady, much love & respect ❤😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
If you want to see what it looks like when someone is truly and deeply enjoying a little joy in their life, focus on her face during the first section of her listening to this song. So nice to see!
Sweet reaction. Another thing about this song is the timing with dynamics, when he sings the lyrics "come tumbling down and a new world will begin" the drummer adds a drum fill descending from the high to low tom drums mimicking something collapsing, perhaps relative to the walls in the fore mentioned line "the walls you built within".
Awesome reaction. You are one of the few reactors on UA-cam who can actually sing and understand what is going on, which is why I'm subscribed to your channel. I hope you also react to Suite Mary off Operation Mindcrime. As with all songs on that concept album, it loses some meaning when separated from the rest of the album, but it is still a good and interesting song on its own.
Really great analysis, from vocal expertise to arranging, mixing, and visual aspects of the video. Just really engaging intellectually and emotionally. Think and smile in one video. Love it.
First: We aren't gorgeous you are! Second: The Unplugged version of this is really good. Might check out I Will Remember Unplugged next. Liked this reaction though. Very detailed. Love it. Anybody Listening is another good song to check out. Enjoy some more Queensryche!
So glad you went down this road ❤ Thanks for another wonderful vid. Went to see Jeff Tate live at the Operation Mindcrime 25th anniversary tour in 2018 and can confirm 100% HE HAS STILL GOT IT. Nailed all the vocals and even included some top tracks from other albums such as Empire and Silent Lucidity. A real dream moment 😊
Yeah, I think she's the only one I've ever heard do that in a reaction to Jinjer. (Charismatic Voice explained it well, but I don't think she actually demonstrated it.)
They really hit on something that speaks to just about everyone way deep down. I have seen some of the most hardcore people I know moved to tears by this song.
Your smile while listening to this song makes me smile! This is one of my all time favorite songs and is often a go to for me at the end of a difficult day.
I already thought this song was beautiful enough but then I saw your enjoyment hearing it and reacting to it and it made it even more beautiful. I only wish I had the voice to make you react that same way to me ;)
This song is ethereal and so are you Fairy Voice Mother ;).. Your smile and attitude is electric... And ys of course your knowledge and explanation of vocals is just as deep... Love it ALL...
This song have a profound effect when I was growing up. It showed me there is another side to songs outside usual theme of love into another world of dreaming. Still as amazing as ever now that I am nearing 50. Wish more people know about this great song.
I've just watched your reaction again. What a joy! The small things you catch and explain are wonderful! I wanted to make two more comments: I love their choice to only say "silent lucidity" once during the whole song. Leaving it off at the end of the song was lovely and unexpected. Also, did you catch the cellos ( I think) giving us a whiff of Brahms Lullaby at the end? Brilliant and subtle! And GEOFF. There are no words!

This song really surprises people... when they realize Geoff Tate is actually a bass-baritone and not the tenor he pretends to be on a lot of songs. The dude has such awesome control up into tenor range for someone who has such a deep voice naturally.
As a vocalist of 30 years, you are without doubt the best vocal coach on UA-cam. Your knowledge is incredible.
That little quiver at the leap between the first and second words… that is what I’ve been waiting for.
That would be a great suggestion. I would recommend for the new version to check out the Live at the Teatro Metropolitan CDMX version.
I can't think of a better Friday then a reaction drop from this fantastic women!!! One of my favorite groups and reactors and it was awesome!! ☺👍
Agreed...they opened for Metallica and is still the best show I've seen.
@@walter_cdn_white
I totally agree!
Same... 👊
Yes! More Queensryche please!
Your knowledge of not just the vocals but the overall construction of the songs in these videos is that of a seasoned veteran, well beyond your years. In otherwords, I'm a new sub. You hooked me. Good job.
🎼⛓️🔥🔥🔥🔥⛓️🎼 .. this song is fire ! Your friend was correct , and I am so glad she talked you into it. Thanks for this one Fairy Voice Mother. This along never disappoints. 🎼⛓️🔥🔥🔥🔥⛓️🎼
He is the MAn
I have watched dozens of reaction videos of this song... working on a project, but You have the most amazing evaluation! Your knowledge is astounding. This helps me more than you will know... Instant Subscriber!
I’ve been waiting for this ever since take hold of the flame!!! Only way it could be better is if it was two jingers again 😁
I do miss my lovely ginger gal. We just live so far apart!
Thank you….. 😢😢you see, I learned from you another things after 33 years?
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤

You are such a great analyzer of vocals and musical sounds and your vocal chops are crazy good. Thanks for enligthening us :)
Watching you two during Take Hold of the Flame was such a treat. Thank you. Eyes of a Stranger is hopefully around the corner👍
Hope you're having a great day 💛
Youre the best reactor ive seen, absolutely loevely and intelligent commentary. Geoff is the best ever
Good choice, this song always brings a tear to my eye, beautiful.
his performance in this is impressively understated...love it...I saw them perform this album at Red Rocks in Colorado...very cool.
Julia has worked with you, she's worked with Elizabeth over at Charismatic Voice. I need my 3 redheads of the reactions to collaborate now!!!!!!
That amazing string arrangement was by Michael Kamen (may he rest in peace). He has done many incredible rock n roll string arrangements, including Metallica "Nothing Else Matters". He was the best...
As well as HIGHLANDER.
WOW!
Best review ever...great job! Finally someone gets it!
I love what you do. When this was toured in Rochester, New York, it was the final song of the show. After all the hard hitting heavy shredding songs it was flawless.
This was originally just Geoff and acoustic and right before the album release they decided to add the rest of the music… brilliant decision. Great reaction.. new sub…Rock On 👊😎🤘
His back up is mainly the band, Geoff Tate, Chris DeGarmo, Michael Wilton is most likely what you mean.(at around 11:00 mark)
If you want to hear more of Geoff's entire range, do a reaction to Eyes of a Stranger
What a great review and analysis. I've listened to this song for years, and you've helped me hear a few new things. Thx!
Oooooo can I come and eat some brisket?? I’ll bring whatever you drink.
I was thinking of you today hehe 🥰 Enjoy your brisket lovely one! Oh and the video I hope
@@TheFairyVoiceMotherloved the reaction as always. Now may I suggest something completely different? Dwight Yoakam covering Sloop John B by The Beach Boys. It’s a magical yodel fest.
@@mos63halan68 sure. I like single barrel bourbon, the older the better.
I love your experienced breakdown of this magnificent song.
I remember when this song was released, and it is one of my all-time favorite songs.
Geoff Tate is a master musical storyteller.
You have earned yourself a new subscriber.
Keep up the outstanding work.
And I hope that you consider doing a cover to this remarkable piece of musical art.
I would listen to your rendition of this classic.
Have a great week!
From the very beginning to the last second of this video I was captivated.
Isn't Lolli the best person ever to walk this planet?
Absolutely! She's simply gorgeous as well which is also captivating!
Amazing song, amazing message, ultra amazing singer
If you want to see what it looks like when someone is truly and deeply enjoying a little joy in their life, focus on her face during the first section of her listening to this song. So nice to see!
You're the first Vocal Coach that I've seen that made a comment about the drums during the "tumbling down". Well done!
Great analysis Lolli! I've heard of Queensryche before but never listened to them. I enjoyed this song and your comments.
That chorus brings me to literal tears. What a perfect song.
Fng masterpiece. Pure perfection. Goeff Tate's voice is indescribable Beautiful lullaby.
I can’t get enough of this stunning lady’s musical analysis ❤
So glad you went down this road ❤ Thanks for another wonderful vid. Went to see Jeff Tate live at the Operation Mindcrime 25th anniversary tour in 2018 and can confirm 100% HE HAS STILL GOT IT. Nailed all the vocals and even included some top tracks from other albums such as Empire and Silent Lucidity. A real dream moment 😊
It’s a nice change to see reactor actually sing parts of the song showing you how it sounds. Watched a video where she growled, very cool.
One of my favorite of all time songs! I latched onto it when it first came out. It's still got my attention! Thanks for a great reaction.
just one word for this song................perfect!
They do an unplugged version of their songs. His voice is just incredible even unedited got to check it out.Straight live with no effects of anything.
A true masterpiece that has been within me since its release! 😍Great reaction, thank you!!
Great reaction. Next up from Queensryche should be Eyes of a Stranger
Been looking forward to this one since Julia recommended it. Love this song and FVM. Great breakdown. Thanks!
I've just watched your reaction again. What a joy! The small things you catch and explain are wonderful!
I wanted to make two more comments:
I love their choice to only say "silent lucidity" once during the whole song. Leaving it off at the end of the song was lovely and unexpected.
Also, did you catch the cellos ( I think) giving us a whiff of Brahms Lullaby at the end? Brilliant and subtle!
And GEOFF. There are no words!
