Clapton has a natural ability to flow intuitively with just about any song. Something that I think earns him a place on the all time greatest guitarists list.
Clapton is throwing off the timing most of the time. Instead of laying back on to the 2, he is phrasing off the 1, which is completely the wrong feel for this music. And then he plays thru the the end of the measure and spills into the next. Clumsy, but then he was never known for being deft or funky. On the other hand, this song doesnt lend itself to constant guitar fills and IDK, something with the drums. Its not fast, but it sounds rushed.
I am so glad I was born in the 50's! I remember all these Rock/Funk/Jazz/Blues Legends! I saw these two awesome Men in concert back in 1970! They still can make awesome Blues Music together! Love them both. Dr. John & Eric Clapton!
Can't imagine what it's like to be the guy who writes the song a guy like Eric Clapton wants to play along with. Just discovering Dr John today and I'm going out to get his music ASAP.
His talent & charisma fills out that Big Black Suit like David Byrne's magically inhabits his Big [White] Suit! ua-cam.com/video/av3j4WStj2A/v-deo.html Cheers!
rumor has it he was a pimp at some point. he was playing the guitar at the time, but then got his finger shot of in a shootout with the cops. So now he is doctor john
Dr. J, your music never gets old. From the days of the Night Trippers till now you still are tooo funky for us mortals. That song is never in the wrong place and its always at the right time!
This is beautiful I like Dr john I always love this song came out in the late 70 I was a teenager WOW you don't out grow good music and talented singer like my Eric clapton and Dr John💜😍❤️💙
This song came back to me out of nowhere and I found this gem. I been in the right place! Only thing missing is Buddy Miles thumping a double base kit with that bass.
Clapton has lived quite the life, most of it full of loss and pain. Catch the documentary “Life in 12 bars”. Music has kept him alive. Dr. John is simply a legend. I’ve loved this song since the 70s.
This is a great groove and musicianship and a completely different feel from the original . I like the original version better but, I can appreciate the groove that they lay down here.
Thanks for the clarification...I didn't look it up...but I guess I remembered the song so well because 1973 would have been my high school years. I did, however recall Dr. John as a sixties performer...and a lot of the sixties people around me regard him quite highly. A gift to us all...whatever the decade.
When this song came out it, I went crazy for it ... it just had something that always created a bouncy rhythm, even if you were 20 feet from where it was playin' you'd find yourself bouncing around to it.
The Night-Tripper, and Slowhand... ...how sublime. I'd almost forgotten that being a sideman was what put EC on the map, and he proves here that he can still be an excellent one. I watch Dr. John in this, and I have to wonder how much of Leon Russell's stage persona is owed to him. (EC playing a 335... How cool is that?)
+tuxguys He played the 335 at the end of the Cream era, on his one off show with the Dirty Mac, and even really early Blind Faith before he went to the Tele. Great tone, about even with the SG, and second to his Les Paul days with John Mayall.
I read somewhere that he played the Gibson ES335 with John Mayall and the Blues Breakers. He's reading the Beano comic magazine on the album cover to be exact.
after seeing Blind Faith at Madison Square Garden in 1969, I drove past Ungano's where Dr. John was playing. I opted to go out to Queens to see the Grateful Dead. Since they played long sets, I still got to enjoy a few hours of their music. The next day I found out that Clapton and Ginger Baker had sat in with Dr. John.
Dr John's speaking voice is music on its own
he sucks
u knw it
Like Wolfman Jack’s with a little more funk
Pretty sure he forgot the words. Lol cute thou.
@@SIGMAMAN69 Wolfman Jack
Dr. John, you made life richer for all of us. Thank you for the memories that will last forever.
Dr John, story of my life. From the first time, until my 63 year old self. Love it. The Best.
Veramente un grandissimo saluti da Milano
💕 💞 💓 💗 💖 Rest in Peace, Dr. John... The Night Tripper... Thanks for everything!! 💔 😥
I'm so sorry to hear we've lost the legendary Dr.John today
Clapton has a natural ability to flow intuitively with just about any song. Something that I think earns him a place on the all time greatest guitarists list.
ok captain obvious
Clapton should be more sensitive to sharing the stage.....
No way. Clapton is grossly overrated. Give me Beck, Page, Taylor, Richards and /or Woods any day over Clapton.
You're probably right about that, but he's too much in front when the vocals are going on.
Clapton is throwing off the timing most of the time. Instead of laying back on to the 2, he is phrasing off the 1, which is completely the wrong feel for this music. I met Dr John when I volunteered at WWOZ...He was a really nice guy...a sweet bad boy.
RIP Dr. You will be sorely missed. Thank you for being you
At this skill level you don’t have to think, the groove just flows naturally from fingers to instrument.
Dr John has that Wolf man jack thang going on.
I am so glad I was born in the 50's! I remember all these Rock/Funk/Jazz/Blues Legends! I saw these two awesome Men in concert back in 1970! They still can make awesome Blues Music together! Love them both. Dr. John & Eric Clapton!
Me to!! I'm still Rocking N Rolling!!!

R.I.P Dr. John. Loved your music.
The way Dr John strolls on in like a true pimpin player!
His talent & charisma fills out that Big Black Suit like David Byrne's magically inhabits his Big [White] Suit!

Dr. John was a master.
I'll never get over his passing.
Clapton wanted to play with him, not vice versa.
The Night-Tripper, and Slowhand...
...how sublime.

Dr. John used to run an illegal radio station that was located in Mexixo, and he ramped up those transmitters. He called himself the Night Tripper.

Elton John Bio highly lauds our fallen night tripper, and we are bow to you Dr. J!
Who hasn't Clapton play with holyshit
Eric Clapton, Dr. John, a couple shots of good whiskey and turn it up. Now that would make for a night of the good stuff, no matter what!
Thank you! I was getting tired of being the only one here who DOESNT want to blow Eric Clapton. Crimeny!
