I just picked this up 2 weeks ago, it's been quite a while, but for the price, the age in the barrel, one of the few, high quality bourbons that didn't shoot up the price like so many other brands did. With 2 small ice cubes or 2 small splashes of water, for me this bourbon is perfect 👍🏼
wow so picked this up yesterday and sipped on it last night for the 1st time. Absolutely loved it. The nose was warm buttered toast with sugar and cinnamon and the taste was fantastic. This one really appealed to me well exceeded my expectations
This was the first bourbon that the Total Wine guy recommended when I started my bourbon journey last January. Really enjoyed it (and have purchased the 1792 Full Proof), but have not replaced it, yet. Probably will buy another.
Need to give this another chance by the sounds. I had a bottle and just didn't get on with it. Maybe a bad bottle, maybe just me at the time. Next time I'm back over in the US I'll give it another go
Another nice review. I agree with you on the less interesting as you keep drinking. Usually I will only have a small amount occasionally in between other brands! Cheers!
Thanks for a great review. My local grocery store had these discounted (with a club card) to $26 so I picked some up and I now consider 1792 Small Batch to be the best cheap bourbon in my collection. We don’t exactly agree on the summary, but I really like this stuff.
I just discovered this Bourbon and I think it will become one of my favorites. I like it, I also drink JD, and WT101, and also Knob Creek 9. I'm still finding different Bourbons I really enjoy. So it's a nice Journey. Thanks for the video
This was one of the first bourbons I tried when I decided to get more "serious" about sipping whiskey, and what stood out to me was the cinnamon scent and flavor. Later on I tried a sample of Blanton's and I swear to this day that it was basically just like this, but I remember liking 1792 more. If Blanton's were readily available, I'd do a side-by-side but alas, finding most Buffalo Trace products in Florida is like asking for snow during the summer.
So I love rye's. I find 1792 a little too brash. My favorite (so far) high rye bourbon is Redemption High Rye bourbon. I ALWAYS keep a bottle on hand to introduce friends to the rye aspect. Great bourbon! Nt daily sipper.
I had the same inclinations with regards to the rye spice. I basically got the same overall impression that you did. I am a fan of wild turkey 101, but don't like Bulleit Rye. On the nose I thought I wouldn't like it because of the Rye, but it's more balanced on the palette. Definitely sippable for me, but not the flavour profile I look for in bourbons. No regrets on trying it though.
This was so spicy that I did not enjoy it very much. Fast forward 2 months and went back to it and the spicy was much less and it was absolutely delicious. Tried it three more times after that with same results. Flavors exploding in my mouth with a fantastic aftertaste. Now it is always on shelf with backups
Was given a bottle for my birthday a couple of weeks ago ,love just sipping it when the kids and wife have gone to bed .The after taste reminds me a bit of Big red gum .I'm from the UK so my bourbon choice is a bit limited videos like this I find very helpful, I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense I'm on me third shot 😅
Had this for the first time last night. I'm usually not a high rye fan, but I thought this was delicious. I think it had enough sweetness too. I initially thought of Big Red cinnamon gum. I totally agree with you that it gets less interesting as you sip it, but pretty solid for the $28.00 I paid.
This is fifty bucks in Canada. I think taxes on alcohol and tobacco here are some of, if not the highest in the world. I actually don't drink, been sober since January, 2011 but I still have some things I want to try. Like an old fashioned. Never did get around to trying one. What is your opinion on the bottled old fashioned? When I do eventually try one should I just have one made to drink or get a bottle of it pre-made like by Wisers or On The Rocks?
I have the BiB 1792 and think it compares to John J Bowman and Blantons are far as smooth basic bourbon. Nothing fancy but a little less rye heat than typical bourbons. Little more caramel.
1792 is one I haven’t been able to get into. I got a sample of a store pick and guess I was wanting more. I will probably stick the the OGD line over these myself. But I may give it another go at a bar.
@@TheMashandDrum Was always sold on your reviews, the thoroughness and that you always include comparisons, have purchased bottles from your recommendations without disappointment... but the Mets hat..fan for life :)
Always love these videos even if I'm not a fan of the whiskey being reviewed. 1792 just isn't a brand I have been able to get into... I think it's because I was so disappointed with the BiB store pick that ran $40. So much more bib for far less out there that I enjoy more. Also, I really do not care for the bottle top design... that gold is gaudy and also chips off.
That's been my opinion of 1792 Small Batch. It is a one-note bourbon that drinks much "hotter" than its proof. I liked the Single Barrel much more than this, at least the one I've tried. I haven't seen any of the other 1792's on the shelves in NC unfortunately.
I get that banana note alot on the bottled in bond and some of the full proof picks. The small batch not so much for me. It's like the higher the proof the more banana candle comes out. Lol
It's interesting how you threw Wild Turkey 101 into the mix!.... Earlier today I bought a 1792 small batch bottle and a WT 101 bottle, and have compared them. ONE THING YOU FORGOT to mention was the fruit profile of 1792, it is almost like drinking cherry caugh syrrup!! SIDE BY SIDE drinking 1792 alongside with WT 101, 1792 has more spice and more of the FIRE profile than WT 101 does at a higher proof, WT 101 is also drier tasting while 1792 is very fruity and very spicy also at the same time.
Other than the 12 year, i think these all drink hot - think that's part of why they aren't my favorite - even though I generally like higher rye bourbons
I've been spoiled since drinking Blanton's. We can't get it in CT yet except for some at $125.. :(. I did try your recommendation of Michter's Small Batch last week and enjoy that. Typically drink Elijah Craig Small batch for a basic Bourbon. Still learning but I do appreciate your help. Thanks again.
Hey, you have to blind this against the new Costco Kirkland Barton Small Batch….. As good of a value that 1792 SB is, I think the Costco bottle might beat it out. Couple it with the ~$20ish price tag and 1L bottle, the Kirkland bottle smashes!,
Happened to pick this up today at Costco for $22. Haven’t opened it yet, sounds like this might happily end up next to the Rittenhouse on the cocktail side of the shelf.
This is one bourbon I'd always see on lists of the best budget bourbons but never tried for some reason. Saw a bottle for 27 last week and bought it. I get nothing from it, it's so flat and boring.
1792 SB was awarded top small batch bourbon in the 2024 International Whisky Competition. Super good value considering the lower price tag
This was my very first bourbon. Still as delicious as ever and still at such a great price! Would love to try the other years and batches one day.
Good review! And nice Mets hat. I am a fan since 1962 and attended game four of the 1969 World Series. A legendary game.
One of my favorites. Your nose and palate are spot on. It drinks hot for 93 proof. I'd say it tastes as hot as WT 101 but I think I prefer the 1792.
Thanks for that history, Jason. I'm a Barton fan but didn't know much of their past. Most Barton offerings stand up to ice very well. Cheers!
I tried this on vacation at the distillery last year and really liked it. The Very Old Barton was good too.
It’s okay
Brought a bottle of this stuff up to my cabin in mn drinking it by the fire place made for a good experience

Not overly complex, but what flavor it has tastes great...
Love your reviews! You’re my go to reviewer while I’m learning to taste and appreciate whiskey. My pallet is like yours, I love the spicy whiskeys.
Just picked up this bottle . Excited to Crack it open tonight. Where I got it they said it Flys off the shelves!
1792 is great. I had the Port Finish in Portland ME. a few years back, and it’s fantastic! Great review and loved the history.
Another nice review. I agree with you on the less interesting as you keep drinking. Usually I will only have a small amount occasionally in between other brands! Cheers!

We call this the king of $30 bourbons. 👍😳👍
I just picked up a bottle of 1792 small batch on sale at my local wal-mart for $12 for a 750ml! I'm so excited!
Someone must have pissed in it
I just picked this up this past weekend. It was recommended by a guy in the abc store. I’m a big fan.

Love my 1792 (small batch), wish the other expressions were a little easier to find
Very good review, I've been drinking this since it was called Ridgewood Reserve 1792. Good stuff for under $30
What was the difference in taste between thr 8 year and this one?
This is my favorite cocktail whiskey. The flavor doesn't get buried in a Manhattan or a Boulevarier.
Two ice cubes, it's very tasty. Sorry that I didn't buy it sooner.

I’m on my 3rd bottle in 4 months absolutely love this bourbon
I really appreciate the comparisons...(If you like xyz, you may not like...) This is quite helpful. Thanks.
I always enjoy the history lesson.

It is good, definitely worth trying, I would not but it again because there are more bourbons to try.
Just got this bourbon today. Really like it. It’s one of my new favorites. Thanks for the great review.
Im picking up Pin a colada cream pudding cherry licorice with a hint of baking spice rye???

I get a lot of ripe banana from 1792 small batch, and really enjoy it
I enjoyed the review. I was sipping the same bottle along with you while trying to get educated. Thanks for the lesson!
Great review as always, the history of the distillery....excellent!!!
Subscribed because I have that same Mets hat. And your content is great!

1792 SB is an aways buy. It's become harder to find now in 2022 in Ms.
Never had small batch but I love a store pick full proof I found. I got to get the small batch and BiB
All are good...Full Proof is easily a top 5 bourbon for my palate, but the BiB and SmB are both very solid.
Appreciate the review. I dont find it spicy but a good daily sipper. It's very mild to me compared to the other brands I have.
My favorite bourbon. Like Dan from bourbon junkies says, its exactly like vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberries.
Always good to hear your opinions.
Another video 👍👍

Just stopped by the comment section to say Chop On! 😄 But for real tho solid review my man. such a under appreciated whiskey by many
Nice, easy-drinking bourbon.
Great video, I tasted along with you. I have 3 decanter and one is filled from a handle of this. The others are WT101 and early times.
I killed a bottle of 1792 Small Batch recently. It was okay ... probably good for cocktails. Not looking to replace it.
I would agree. Every now and then I love that spice.
You are spot on Jason. 👍Heaven Hill is my American favorite and 1792 and I do not get along. 😬
I didn't like it at first. Bottle went on sale again and decided to give it another try. It is growing on me.

I just bought this but anyway I love your hat are you a Mets fan if so I rock with you
it totally drinks hot. i blinded it with WT 101 and Early Times BiB and the proof difference wasn't at all noticeable
Somehow I missed this one. Only one I've tried is the BIB and REALLY liked it!

I like the ogd over this myself. This prompted me to do a high rye bourbon blind tasting video.
Just picked up the Small batch today and was surprised by how smooth it was. Has anyone had the 1792 wheater?
insightful! Thanks.
Killing the Intros recently!
thanks man!!
Great to see a fellow Met Fan doing whiskey reviews. Looking forward to taste the spice of 1792. #LGM

Thanks for the video. I'm debating on grabbing a total wine Russell reserves store pick at $62 bucks.
If its from Warehouse F...go for it

Funny, I always pickup banana on 1792, not the fruit, but like those banana candies.
I get that banana note alot on the bottled in bond and some of the full proof picks. The small batch not so much for me. It's like the higher the proof the more banana candle comes out. Lol
Some bitching B-roll brother! Love the new music. Great work Jason!
Have you ever had the Ridgemont Reserve 8 year? I wonder how that used to be compared to small batch
Had a pour once of it. It was better. lol
@@TheMashandDrum I guess I am think Elijah Craig small batch may be comparable

I've been on the fence about this for a while. $46 in Ontario. Do you think we're gonna see some ball this year? Cheers Jason 🥃🇨🇦
I hope so man. I think we will.
I see 1792 Full Proof at my liquor store for $60. is it worth it?
They drink a bit hot and spicy. Of that's your thing then you will love it.

they do!
Lets go!
So...sounds like it' delish, but not as smooth as say a Blanton's. I prefer smother and sweet bourbons so this may not be for me??
Yeah if you like sweeter and smoother, this one isn't that.

Yes because I swallow loud and chew on it. Nobody wants to hear that.
