I only have Small Batch and Full Proof to join in with in the tasting. I didn’t do mine blind but would rate them Full Proof over the Small Batch but that’s just my profile preference right now. I’ve been really enjoying the higher spiciness lately. The Small Batch is absolutely no slouch IMO.
This weekend I found my first FP bottle and it was mis-labeled for $40. Great timing.

Early Times comes in a full liter (still better value), so I'm very grateful that you guys raved about it because it's now my daily drinker... However, That 1792 small batch may have to be thrown into the rotation a little more often. Love the content.

Convinced me to order Small Batch over here in UK, as it seems to do well in all your episodes. Wow, so easy to drink, well balanced. In the £30 price bracket, only Eagle Rare comes close.

Just did the blind test myself, came up with the exact same order: SmB, FP, BIB, SiB. And I'm no tasting expert by any means.

They are, in fact, VERY different.
CANARY IN A COAL MINE: An allusion to caged canaries (birds) that miners would carry down into the mine tunnels with them. If dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide collected in the mine, the gases would kill the canary before killing the miners, thus providing a warning to exit the tunnels immediately.
Pretty sure that does not apply here.

It’s March 2024 and I have never had any 1792. I am in a raffle Saturday and they will have the following 1792 offerings: Full Proof, Single Barrel, Sweet Wheat, Aged Twelve Year, and Bottled in Bond. I’m hoping for the Aged Twelve Year, then Full Proof, then BiB. 🤞🏻
1792 small batch is excellent for the price point. Buffalo trace is overrated. Wild turkey 101 is the goat of bargain whiskeys. Elijah Craig is dull. Woodford reserve is thick and full. 1792 small batch might be the best 30 dollar bottle.
New York City food critics - when presented with different types of water (tap, purified, distilled, spring, etc) will notoriously pick tap water. Sometimes the taste of home just wins out... (I promise you I cannot find the video of this online so just file this as anecdotal evidence).
I just blinded small batch and a single barrel. The single barrel won but honestly I thought they were reversed and I was bummed since I spent more on the single. I was delighted when I saw the results.
I honestly have a hard time telling the difference in 1792 small batch and VOB 86 proof. Wouldn’t surprise me if they were the same stuff, I mean after all, they are both Barton’s Whiskeys. But VOB is WAY cheaper!

What about Bottled in Bond Single Barrel? I've got a store pick that is killer. Had to go back and get a second bottle. Very heavily ethanol forward on the neck pour. A little SJ and it opens up like a $20 escort.

Do not like the SB as much as the Full Proof. Just got a BIB but haven’t tried it yet.

is single barrel and small batch the same exact mash bill and ageing? just one is sold as a "single" barrel? Clearly our brain, visualizations, and perceptions have a huge impact on what we taste when drinking, drinking blinds almost is starting to seem like a wasted endeavor unless that is how people drink booze weekly.
Found some real inexpensive full proof while on vacay. When I got back home all I could find was a small batch. While it lack that punch of full proof, it still beats your run of the mill whiskey especially at that price point. Best bang for your buck hands down. But if you can find it and have the cash, full proof is definitely the way to go.

Man, that’s disappointing. I don’t really like anything I’ve had from 1792 and if Small Batch is the best, then the whole brand is relegated to Basil Hayden “never touch it” status for me.
Well I mean at least you know that it doesn't line up for you. I would say if you haven't try the BiB, it's the most different of these 4, and the aged 12 year is very nice as well.

every single barrel i have had sucks too. i had a lot of store picks of this and they dramatically differ almost to the point some of them dont even seam to be the same product. had a few amazing full proofs and a few not so good.

The twelve year is also really good but I do like the single. I got nothing extra from the full proof. No more depth then the single barrel just more proof.
Small batch is too syrupy for my taste. I love the oak note in BiB though, comes through like a champ.
Since nobody else said it - canary in a coal mine is a sign shit is going to hell. (it's a no tech early warning system that the air is not breathable). You were looking for "sticks out like a sore thumb" --- or canary, whatever

@@plr985 it is overlooked. And even when it does get attention, it's very polarizing. Plenty of people don't like 1792 at all (🙋🏼♂️) and I am one of them.
@@trackvol To each its own... I find it interesting those that don't like it and then realize pours like Sam Houston 14 is sourced from them. They actually do a lot of sourcing nowadays
@@plr985 Good to know. I haven't had a bottle of Sam Houston yet. Almost bought a bottle in NYC recently for $125 but decided to pass. Glad I did! I would have been so angry if I bought it, didn't like it, and later found out it was 1792/Barton juice inside.
