I've fished for bass (white bass, striped bass, and of course largemouth) all my life. After being introduced to crappie fishing by my brother-in-law, I bought a small bass tracker, 12in garmin, two 9in garmin and livescope. Bass will always be second to crappie for me now! Great video! Definitely enjoyed it!

Hey Brandon great crappie dock fishing videos. I am trying to learn to read side scan for finding crappie under docks using 7” Lowrance. If you don’t mind in your next video explain a bit what you look for when scanning docks with side scan. We fish Tim’s Ford as well. Thanks for making great content!
If you are using a 7 inch screen you need to make sure to reduce your side imaging range so you can see better on the smaller screen. When I had a smaller Humminbird unit I would only scan to one side at times which helped see in more detail. You usually see the wad of crappie and “shadows” from them on your side scan. Then if you have livescope or similar you can really dial it in

Your correct sorta of in stating that they will almost never feed down. But I have caught tons off the bottom. Crappie are the funnest fish to chase in my opinion. I fish for them year round and at least 4 -5 days week so I know crappie. I've seen them last on the bottom and strike your bait. Yes I use panoptix

Great video! I love me some dock shooting! I used to think the same thing about them feeding up but they will definitely chase down and hit too. I’m in Texas and have been finding lots of fish sitting on bottom and I catch them dragging bottom through them. I think they feed down more than most realize.
Interesting! Are the fish you're catching just single roamers or are they schooled up on cover?
Man I was just about to comment my thoughts and theres Kid crappie! I knew you were gonna say everything I wanted to say. Id also say im a Texas crappie guy and this dock shooting video was very relatable. Both roaming and brush/timber fish will actively chase a bait down. You will also see crappie feeding on the bottom or even down when you fish dams and ledges

I got videos of me catching them one ft off the bottom this past summer, one round off the bottom, done it many times in 15 to 25 ft of water. a strong high pressure will put them close to the bottom.

Hey Brandon love the videos. I’m new to crappie fishing. Where do you look in 50 degree or less water? Deep main creek docks or main lake docks? I fish large reservoir in SC mostly.
Thanks for the great video Brandon !! Man that was awesome to see ya only take 6 to eat and they do taste better out of cold water . Here on Ky. Lake not like it was 5 yrs ago and it's not just because of the dang Asian Carp . We got plenty of bait and all but lost grass and like clock work every spring TVA draw water out of bushes laydowns ect. and fry just doesn't have anywhere to hide , cover sorta speak and ever since grass gone it's been downhill . We need some sanctuary's or off limit spawning areas a few yrs or something , I myself want keep any egg filled females anymore as yrs past . If all would only take 5 or 6 to eat and release females the lake and fish be better off for it . If ya will . about what depth do ya typically find your Crappie when water temps in low 50's ??? Man sorry to hear that about KY Lake, a lot of people don’t realize how much damage keeping too many fish can do. With today’s electronics the fish never get a break and it’s very important to not keep more than you need. I can take 7 nice slabs and feed 4 adults and have fish left over most of the time. To answer your question the crappie I fish for are typically always suspended 5-15ft over 25-60ft of water. They will either be suspended under a dock or in a laydown tree. Thanks for watching!
yup. If a crappie is on the dive and sees your bait on their way down they may see it and attack it, but yup! They see up and stay suspended most of the time.

Bridge fishing windy days in shallower waters about 10-15 feet deep sometimes the Crappie will feed off the bottom because there's usually less current there.
i have always been a bass fisherman and did the tournaments and all that. But now I like catching crappie more than anything. could be wrong but that sure looks like wagner creek

Heres a tip, early morning fish around the dock first, before u shoot under. fish will move under the docks as the sun comes up. crappie dont like bright sun light, .also the water temp under a dock is the same temp as in the main lake. water is not stagnant it moves and mixes.

He Brandon , is that micro lite rod you use for skipping a 6 ft medium light action ?
That’s the exact rod I use for dock shooting. It’s paired up with a size 30 Pflueger President XT limited edition and 6# hi viz line. Works very well. I used to run a size 25 President on it but the bigger spool of the 30 allows more distance when shooting.
Can you elaborate on your technique of covering the reel with your hand while the line plays out? Dennis on Lake Austin
Not exactly sure what you are referring to but I think you are talking about me flipping the bail on the reel over by hand instead of using the reel to engage it. I will discuss this in my next video. Thanks for the question
I recently subscribed and I enjoy your channel I've got two questions, how do you keep your vicious 4 lb test from getting all twisted up. I've tried it and Mr crappy in the past and it about drove me crazy. Secondly could you show us how you tie your loop knots I've seen several variations and I'd be curious as to how you tie yours. I haven't been to Tim's Ford for about 20 years but when I was there they had a bunch of landlocked stripers. Are they still in there, we've been thinking about vacationing down there next spring?
Yes sir still plenty of Stripers in the lake. Rarely ever see one over 20lbs any more but I'm sure they are still in there. Thanks for watching!

Crappie, Walleye, and Perch have eyes which are oriented more towards the top of their heads, therefore their visual orientation is more biased upward than downward.
Do you find that spot lock spooks those fish all up close and personal?

That looks like crappie water. Water dirty here up north. We are still catching them but last fall was way better. Too much rain and winds.

lots of myths in crappie fishing that have been repeated over the years, water temp and affect on location and spawn is another big myth.

You are doing what is called "cheating fishing."
Question, wonder why fisherman with boats that cost lots of $$$, has 6 are seven high $$$ real ,launch the boat at the boatdock ... take off and go back to a boat dock right next to the bank ?
