Did this system. Bubbles formed in several places. Factory said sand off and buy more grizzly grip. That did not set well with me. Any bubbles on yours!
Awesome video and great information. My wife and I are planning to do this as well but we had a question about the rubber seal. Was it hard to put on after you applied the GG? Did the rubber seal stick to the ABS plastic or to the actual fiberglass roof? I'm scit might not seal the same. Your thoughts please and thank you again.
Yes the new seal adheared well with the 3M yellow but Sika 252 would also work well and would never come off easy so be careful. The coating isn't that thick and make sure the inside surface is clean. The new seal was pricey but worth it.
I removed the bag while it was stored but the track fell off and was picked up/walked off. You may have to find one local that's the full length otherwise if you order one it will be 2 pieces to cut down on shipping charges. Not sure if I'm going to install a new track and new awning but will post up. In the process of rebuilding the interior now.
Kinda both at the same time. I was very careful with how much I wiped on. Tried to just get most of the tacky green coating off. Please wear a respirator when applying the Grizzly Grip if your doing this indoors. My house house smelled like GG for about a week. I didn't want any bugs walking thru the coating.
I have a 1998 Coleman Cheyenne camper that my parents bought new when I was younger. The roof has been a constant issue. My parents passed the camper down to me and I need to do this to it. Can you tell me what all I need to order from grizzly grip?
A gift that keeps on giving. Before you start on the roof, check the floors in each corner to see if you have any rot. My video series is very robust with all the steps I took to do the roof but I also rebuilt the entire interior. You can see my whole project on www.hybridexplorer.com Here's the link to my thread-www.hybridexplorer.com/forum/index.php?topic=129866.0 My roof was sagging and cracking. I first had to reinforce the roof from the inside. I did this using Uni-strut. I made two support beams that run side to side(perpendicular) to the roof and then fastened two beams that run front to back(parallel) and each is bolted to the front & rear support beams. Uni-strut makes fasteners that make this easy to assemble. I used a T bracket to help provide strength. Each beam is spaced so that it doesn't interfere with the roof vent. See comments below on how much material I used. Good luck with your project.
I replaced mine. You can buy a new seal from colemanpopupparts.com the one's you'll find on ebay aren't has good quality. Looks like the price for the 41' seal has come down a bit.
I used the kit for a 4 x 8 and it came with 7 qts but I ordered 2 more quarts later to do another coat on the end panels and retouching parts of the roof.
Hi there! It's been a while since anyone's asked. How's it holding up at this point? I'm about to do this to my 2000 Coleman Utah. Thanks for the upload.
Yes the title of the video is Grizzly Grip 2nd coat. I don't know if they consider it paint but yes it's a bedliner coating. I've seen other folks use Raptor as well and received similar results. Good luck with your project and be sure to wear proper eye protection and respirator/ventilation.
@@STLF1BAR if anyone is reading this now, I quite literally got off the phone with Grizzly Grips today and asked if there was a sealer to add after the GG coat dried. The woman said “no”, and that the Grizzly Grip WAS the sealer itself.
Thanks for the feedback, I still get a lot of views on these videos. I'm not aware of any sealer for the finished coat. Maybe a primer/sealer for the beginning of the project but I didn't use any. If you're doing your top, please post back results. I highly recommend this product and would use again if needed. We aren't compensated for these videos and I paid full price for the materials used. I've been tempted to coat the wheel wells on our campervan.
I coated my roof in June 2017. Its holding up well and really don't anticipate it having any problems. You be got to remove the outer layer. Otherwise you're putting a great product on a failing system.
I have read a lot of people are not putting an awning because it can still cause to much pressure cracks on ABS roof. If you do make sure its something you can remove completely after using. I may make one that comes off after camping. and just sit inside the P/U
@@mariawinzler My awning made the decision for me. Within a year of doing this roof project myself the awning bag kind of fell apart. Since a new awning would be worth more than the camper itself, I just store it inside the camper and slide it into the track whenever I setup.
I have a Coleman Bayside. The A/C doesn't leak and would like to keep the A/C. But, I think that I'm going to have to take the A/C off in order to paint it. I was thinking about not pulling all the ABS off on the vertical sides. Just pulling the ABS off on the top and just painting the top. I was worried that the rubber seal would not fit if I took all the ABS off down the side. What do you think? I also, don't have a garage or anyplace that I can pull it into. I live in a mobile home park and it's out in the open. Any suggestions? I'm a little apprehensive that I might mess it up. I have never done anything like this.
+@@STLF1BAR: I guess I used the wrong term. By paining it on, I'm talking about rolling the Grizzly Grip with a roller like you did. Yeah, I guess I won't be able to do it then, without a garage.mine doesn't look all moldy like yours did, but it is peeling off in sheets. I just had some work on it done at the R/V place and when I drove it home, la huge chunk of it blew off in the wind. So, now the fiber glass is exposed in the front section. Not sure what to do.
My a/c wasn't leaking and I didnt have any mold. Coleman ABS tops will all fail and the only way to fix correctly is to brace the sag which removing 80-100 lb air conditioner will help and remove all the abs outer skin. The ABS skin will eliminate at some point. When you remove the ABS the outer foam may have the bonding agent that could still be tacky. You'll also see that it also has a green/brown color tone on the foam skin which is normal. Any exposed foam will deteriorate in sunlight. My project took longer because I had delamination on the inside layer as well and wanted to bond it back. I didnt get into that detail in my videos but you may see spots at the front where I drilled thru the foam and injected grizzly glue. You may want to get a big tarp and work on it in phases but don't keep a tarp on too long.
STLF1BAR can you clarify if the roof seal fit well over the finished roof? I’m about to undertake this project and am unsure about stripping the ABS off at the edge as I don’t know if it will accept the seal tightly afterwards. How did yours fit?
great call on the taping knife. Made the job much easier and faster for me
Did this system. Bubbles formed in several places. Factory said sand off and buy more grizzly grip. That did not set well with me. Any bubbles on yours!
No bubbles with my application, I used their rollers and the fine texture.
Did the campers top corrected bow when you dropped it down to redo it or did you have to add the unistruts first
Without the unistrut the roof would cave in. I didn't test it but there wasn't enough glue to hold the interior abs layer at the back portion.
I purchased the kit which was a total of 2 gallons. 8qt bottles but I purchased an additional 2 qts as I need more to do my endcaps and ac shroud.

I’m confused. So did you repair the ABS roof or did you remove the ABS and use the GG on the foam itself???
Yes completely removed the outer layer of ABS and covered the foam with GG. The ABS isn't repairable and will fail.

Did you use the grizzly grip sealer as well?
Sealer? On top of the foam? No, On top of the grizzly grip? Don't think they have such material.
Yes Grizzly Grip has a sealer apparently
Must be a new product, I'd call them to see why they recommend it.

When you say paint what do you mean? You'll need to brace the inside otherwise the roof will sag. Without a garage will be tough.
