  • This is the final part of my 3-part series on fixing (replacing) the bad ABS roof on my 1998 Coleman Cheyenne pop-up. In the first 2 videos, I removed the ABS that had been delaminating, and then prepped the roof. Here I show you how I applied the Grizzly Grip, what materials and techniques I used, and what could have been done better after all was said and done. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Now let's hope it lasts as long as everybody says it lasts! I do hope my videos have helped you all in your research. Feel free to leave comments and enjoy!
*For the new seal, I followed the instructions in this video: • How to replace an ABS ... . However, it's been 9 months since the project, and the seal has come loose in one area. So I have to glue it back on and I may end up caulking it as well. FYI I don't think that one layer of tape on the new seal is enough for when you are adding it to a project like this where you remove the ABS altogether. I think the roof is slightly less thick now so more reinforcement with the seal is needed. In my experience, anyway.

Stumbled on your videos and glad I did. 2000 Coleman SunValley and the roof, though it doesn't leak looks horrible. Looks like I have a fall project now!

Still holding up well a year and a half later? Considering buying a 2001 myself but all the stories of these roofs going bad had me worried!

Thank you so much for documenting your process in doing this repair. I have a 1999 Sante Fe that has needed this repair since we bought it in 2021. I've been avoiding taking it on because of a lack other info on how to do.
A few questions: (A) how long for each stage did it take you vs total project length? (I obviously understand that everyone's ABS removal stage will differ depending on how much adherence there is)
    (B) How much odor was there from the Grizzly Grip material? Did you end up needing to use a respirator? I am considering backing my trailer into my garage to complete this repair and am concerned about the ventilation.
Appreciate your time and effort to share your knowledge!

Great trio of videos. I have a 96 Coleman I will be doing same in the next month. Thank you for paving the way. Has any one reinstalled the track for the owning after applying the Grizzly Grip? or is everyone just removing and living without the awning? or leave track on and cut off ABS around the track and apply GG . Any help is greatly appreciated

Cheryle, GREAT video. We have a 96 Colman that I need to do the same thing as you did. I have a few questions if you don't mind. How did you decide to use Grizzly Grip versus one of the other bed liners?? I appreciate you showing the can of Bondo and how you applied it. I see there must be close attention to multiple layers and smoothing it out like doing dry wall sealing. How much of the gallon did you actually use? I see you took off the awning mounting hardware. Have you been able to re-apply your awning? Also thank you for the price breakdown also.
Again thank you very much, Kalani

      Hi there! Sure.
I decided on Grizzly Grip mostly because 90% of people on a Coleman facebook page I'm part of suggested it. I used two containers of Bondo on my project, but that is going to vary depending on your project. I did not re-apply the awning, but I'm sure it could be done.

Hi there. Thank you so much. It's holding up great. Been 9 months so far, and no complaints yet! I did not put the awning back on the roof, but if you wanted to, I'm sure you could! You'd just want to order one, glue it on with a good glue, and then add your final coat of grizzly grip around it to make it blend in really nice.

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that! That's why I did these videos was because I couldn't find quite what I needed so I figured others were having the same problem. Clearly, I'm a novice, but that means anyone can do it, right? Ha!

Hello, Did you attempt to remove the adhesive residue that’s left on the top after removal of ABS shell? I have tried every chemical I can think of, and nothing touches it. Hard to believe Grizzly Grip will adhere well to a sticky mess.

I can't say hold long it holds up. This is our first camper and first time doing this. But, it's been 9 months and it's looking good and holding up great! I hope it's a permanent fix and lasts for a very long time, as it was a semi-expensive and very time consuming project.

You are using the wrong type of roller. You should use a stiff foam roller not a puffy foam roller.
