** FAQ ** Hi everyone! It’s been a year since I made this video and I’ve been fortunate enough to receive such overwhelmingly positive feedback along with many follow up questions on the build process. I figured it best to address some of these frequently asked questions so you don’t have to go looking for the answer in the comments below ☺️ * What thickness are the acrylic panels? * 1/8th inch for each panel all around. It’s worth mentioning that I’ve built 2 additional cabinets and used 1/8th inch panels for the front to maintain rigidity but used 1/16th inch panels for the sides since they were a bit cheaper. Heads up they are flimsy / less rigid but they get the job done since I never remove the side panels. * How did you fit the light bars into the cabinet? * I fully inserted the connectors as much as possible into each end of the light bar then folded / bent the wire-connector 90 degrees to fit into the cabinet. It’s a tight squeeze but you can briefly see it around the 5:55 mark. Alternatively if you can buy the 3-foot light bars instead for better clearance without the need to forcefully bend any connectors. * Did you wrap both sides of the shelves in black cloth or just the top side? * I wrapped both sides of each shelf in black cloth for the sake of uniformity. It requires more material but was worth the final outcome in my opinion. * How is the magnetic tape holding up? * Some parts of the adhesive magnetic tape did indeed wear off after uploading this video possibly due to weather / climate or just cheap materials. An easy solution was buying this pack of small circular neodymium magnets. I just super-glued a few of them around the corners & edges of acrylic borders for a much stronger magnetic hold to the metal frame. Non-affiliate link: a.co/d/3TnxNvw * How did you join the cabinets together? * Just inserted black zip ties through the holes of the vertical metal frames where the 2 cabinets meet in the center. That’s all for now but I’ll add more to this list if it comes to mind 😅 As always thanks so much all your kindness and support. Best of luck on your custom builds, and until next time, stay safe and take care! ❤️
When are u gonna make a new video if u don't mind me saying I have a video idea.could u do if u want to.but can u make a video with like the cat miles morales suit or cat bodega idk how spell it lol😂 if not could u do some more pose showcases with miles morales?
@PosingwithPeter - Question about wrapping both sides of the shelves... Could you elaborate a bit on how / where exactly you folded + tacked on the fabric for the other sides? (To keep the cloth as clean & taut as possible on both surfaces.) I would guess the surface you cover last becomes the top-side so the visible fold+tacks are hidden under by the frame.
Peter. This is a great video! I'm happy I could help you out. You're posing skills are on another level. Congrats on building a display case worthy of your talents!
The man, the myth, the legend himself! 🤩 Seriously thanks again Costa, building this has been dream of mine for quite a long time and it simply would not have come to fruition were it not for your super helpful videos & friendly/inviting attitude. The collecting community is undoubtedly a better place thanks to you, and I for one am forever grateful for all that you do for us 😊🙏
I e been looking at this video for probably the last 18 months. Then finally over the last 8 days I finally started and now finished. Thank you so much for the inspiration. I am super pleased with the results.
Ok, after a few days work, my cabinet is finally done! A massive thank you to 3 youtube channels without which i would not have been able to even attempt such a project. Costa, you were my main inspiration... you are truly a genius! Posing with peter, i used many of your tips, you were extremely helpful. Sixth scale hero, my fellow aussie, helped me source materials in Oz and i used manyof your tips also. I highly recommend watching the videos that these 3 pioneers put up before starting a project like this. Thank you so much again!
This design is exactly what I’m looking for! I’ve been looking at display solutions for my collection of Gundam and Star Wars models, but I also need one continuous shelf for my model railroad (something that standard bookshelves cannot accommodate). Your design allows for this, and because it’s modular, it can easily be expanded to wrap around a room.
This is incredible display. In my opinion displaying your collection is as important as collecting. I learn a lot from visiting museums etc. They are the masters of displays. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much for your kind word Steve! I agree, sometimes we bite off more than we chew and end up cramming too many figures into a limited shelf space so I’m really glad you appreciate the effort I put into how I display them 😁 Thanks for watching & sharing your positive feedback!
Dude, you just blew my mind with this great idea! I have been suffering for a long time from not being able to acquire a decent display for my collectibles and you've gave me a light in this dark tunnel! Thanks for sharing!
Dang I’m really glad to hear this video was the light at the end of your tunnel 😮 Thanks so much for watching & sharing your positive feedback, means a lot! 🙏
Pop Culture Living Room did an amazing job creating step by step video on these Moducases. Peter fantastic work to as well creating this moducase I look amazing they you pose your figures in there. I can't wait to start building mine, already bought a few items. But thanks to you both and can't wait to see more posing videos.
Thanks so much for your kind words and support! I’m really excited that you’re already in the early stages of acquiring materials for your own custom cabinets 🤩 Best of luck on your build, and thanks for watching!
This is great!! Love the fact of helping others rather than being selfish on the hobby. Definitely gave me ideas to make this at a lower cost than both of you. Give the fact that I don’t have to buy tools! This is awesome
Nice! I’m really glad our cabinet videos gave ya some ideas for the project - indeed it’s a lot more fun producing content that others can learn from & enjoy. Best of luck on your custom build, and thanks so much for watching/commenting!
@@PosingwithPeter hopefully you see this but what did you do for the bottoms of the inside? Pop culture put a 2nd board under the all the mains shelves and yours looks like its black. But at 4:28, it looks stapled but you can still see the cardboard texture. but at 5:58 you can see its covered and i didnt see anything in the video covering that.
@dukeroy6724 Hey there ☺️ Great observation with the video clips, and thanks for providing the time stamps as reference. As it happens, I did mention in the video that I wrapped the brown particleboard shelves using the black fabric bed sheets, but you are correct that I didn’t exactly show this. As you pointed out at 4:28, I only stapled the fabric to one side of the shelf when I recorded this part. But off-camera, I wrapped both sides of each shelf using the black fabric and then stapled again which is what you end up seeing at 5:58. I hope that helps, and thanks so much for watching!
Right?? When he posted the list of items and costs I was like,”ITS EVEN CHEAPER CUZ I HAVE TOOLS!!” 😂 You don’t know how excited I was seeing that bottom line. A great DIY compared to an expensive prebuilt item or even those cheap cubbies made my heart sing!! Now the only thing I need to do is kind of girl it up so that it blends in since it’ll be in my she room and not in the rest of the house.
This randomly popped up in my feed and it's perfect. It's exactly what I need for displaying my transformers and model kits. My thanks to both PopCultureLivingRoom for the original idea, and you for the alternative style.
I do have to ask though, do you have to individually plug in each set of light bars into a power board? Cause I wanna minimise the amount of plugs for a display cabinet.
I’m really glad this video popped up in your feed! As for the lights bars, they connect to each other via daisy-chain and the necessary wires are all included, so this massive cabinet only took up 2 wall plugs. Hope that helps, and thanks so much for your positive feedback! 😁
Holy crap. I've got two of these shelves in my work room and I've never considered using them to display my collection. I'm going to have to check out Costa now. Thank you for sharing yours. Just to let others know, if your going to put anything heavier on these shelves you should go ahead and change out the shelf boards for plywood cut to the same size. You can get Lowes or Home Depot to cut the boards for you (call their lumber department ahead of time and make sure the saw is operational, ours was often broke). Fair warning though, the associates are all trained differently so check the boards to make sure they are correct. Also FYI, my shelves are from Lowes and were cheaper than Amazon. They're the same style though just a different name. Every store, even Walmart, sales these. Keep an eye out for deals at Lowes/HD for deals around Black Friday.
Thanks so much for the heads up! Yeah I saw that some of these racks can vary in pricing pretty drastically depending on where people buy (Amazon, Costco, Home Depot, Lowes etc) and I think I got lucky with my racks being $98 each since a lot of other ones average $150+. Great point you make about the associates being trained differently - some employees will always be more skilled or detail oriented than others in any field but it’s definitely a great point to bring up when shopping for custom cut plywood. But yeah, be sure to check out Costa’s video playlist on custom cabinets - I and many others could not have built our cabinets if it weren’t for his awesome blueprint. I hope it helps, and thanks again for watching & commenting!
This is the absolute greatest video I've seen yet on how to do this. I can't wait to try it! I have a ton of nendoroids and 1/6 scale figures from my favorite video games to display and this seems so doable with my finances help to cut things! He has so so many Lego sets as well and has always taken them apart after building because we don't have anywhere to put them. I'm thinking it would be a great thing to make after we also move!
Oh wow, thanks so much for sharing your story and positive feedback! I’m really glad you found this video helpful/informative - I too think these large DIY cabinets would fit Nendoroids & Lego sets quite nicely 😁 Best of luck with your move! 🤩🙌
Great job Peter! Looks so finished and professional. Poses are amazing as usual. Costa has also inspired me and therefore I have purchased my shelf and am slowly putting mine together too. Can't wait until it's done. Costa, yourself and others alike are great. I watch you guys all the time. Thank you all!!
Thanks so much! Really glad to hear you’re currently in the midst of building your own custom cabinet 🤩🙌 Indeed it required a bit of time & dedication but the final result is so worth the effort. Thanks again for your support! 🥰🙏
awesome vid and build man, i also really appreciate the transparency with how much it cost you, I often get really annoyed when there's any sort of person showcasing a project then having this weird ass obsession with hiding information.
Aw thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback! Yeah transparency was key since my goal here was to inform & inspire, and I also can’t stand it when various content creators act like gatekeepers on whatever it is that they’re trying to demonstrate 😂
Hell yeah Peter! I love what you did here! Costa's videos were amazing! Thanks to his videos I got the same lights you did and it worked wonders for lighting up the shelves! I would love to build up my garage shelves like this, but my Prime 1 1/3 scale statues take priority over anything else and they are not easy to build around 🤣 I'm definitely excited to see some live streams from you in the future, but for now take care and have fun with your new shelves!
Always a pleasure to see ya in the comments Dylan 🥰 I agree man, Costa's are complete game-changers not only for 1:6 collectors but for the collecting community as a whole. I envy ya though, even in the new apartment I still don't have the space for larger collectibles like quarter scale or status 😂 And likewise I'm excited to see ya in the live chat of a future livestream! Till next time my friend ☺️🙏
Nice! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and final outcome of the custom display 😊 Thanks for watching and best of luck on your build when you get around to it! 🙌
Haha thanks so much! I’m really glad you enjoy the poses and video 😊 Yeah I tried to keep that reveal wide-shot of the cabinets on the screen for like 30 seconds while I transitioned into the next topic, but I suppose pausing the video works too! 😁🙌 Thanks again for your kind words and support, I appreciate you 🥰🙏
Thanks Christian! I'm lucky enough to own just the right amount of figures for them to be spaced out a bit. I'm sure they'll be posed more neutral as the shelves become more crowded overtime 😂
I too followed Costa's vid and am about halfway through this build. Ran into a few road bumps (shattered one of my glass shelves and had issues with my choice of lighting) The extra tips you shared are much appreciated and seeing the wonderful finished product will give me the motivation to jump back in and knock this project out. Great content as always "Pose Master Pete." 😎👍
Aw damn, sorry to hear that you hit a few bumps along the way but I’m really glad my video is giving ya the extra boost of inspiration to get back on the horse! The feeling of accomplishment will definitely be worth it in the end once you’ve completed the build and have your figures displayed - you got this 🤩🙌 As always thanks for watching and for stopping by to share your story & positive feedback 😊🙏
Aww thanks so much for checking in Alan, that’s very thoughtful of you - truly heartwarming 🥰🙏 I’m alive and kickin’ 😂 Very fortunate to still be employed and collecting as well, just been super busy with work and some recent medical stuff. Nothing serious or life-threatening thankfully, just been focusing what little free time I have on my health, wellness, and road to recovery. I haven’t really kept track of the FB Groups or livestreams lately so I’m a bit out of the loop in the hobby but I’m hoping to return to normal in the coming months 🤞😁 And thanks for rewatching if even just for the poses! Really glad ya enjoy them that much, huge praise coming from one of the best figure/portrait photographers in the community! Hope all is well with you and your family old friend 😊❤️
@@PosingwithPeter you’re very welcome Peter! I was talking with Brandon salad the other day and we were lamenting your absence!! You’re definitely missed mate, but I’m really glad you’re doing ok. Don’t worry about keeping up to date with the latest in the groups and livestreams etc.- nothing much has changed 😄 Yeh man this video in particular… the shelves you made, they look sleek AF and seeing the panning shots of the figures all lined up is just magical mate. I was watching it with my little boy earlier, as I wanted to remind myself of your JL batman pose for inspiration, and he was like “daddy! Are you jealous of this?” And I was like yes! very much so! 😅 And thank you for your kind words man, you really are too kind. Hope to see you back in action soon bud. The hobby really has a Peter sized hole in it.
Thank you so much for sharing your video with us here on UA-cam. I think we can all agree that this is the best cost effective way display our collection if we are on a budget. Once just want to thank you for inspiring those of us whom aren't very handy with tools, im a bit more willing to give this a try
Aw you’re too kind 😊 It’s my pleasure sharing these kinds of tips with fellow collectors especially if it’ll help with our budgets 😅 Indeed I myself am not very handy with tools so I’m really glad this gave you a little spark of inspiration as well. Thanks so much for watching & sharing your positive feedback 😊🙏
I used to have a job building stages for plays, this might give me a chance to dust off those old skills. Gives me something to do. Thanks for the advice 😊
Oh damn that’s awesome, sounds like it was quite the handy work - a project like this would be a walk in the park for ya then 😁 As always it’s my pleasure, thanks for watching!
Ayy so great to see ya in the comments! Thanks so much for your kind words and for always saying hi whenever I can join a livestream chat - I appreciate ya more than you know! 🥰🙏
What a great idea! I've been playing around with several ideas on how to build closed display shelves, but this might be my favorite! Sam's Club has several comparable options including a one similar to yours in the 24" depth with black laminate shelves and hidden connectors for $95. There's also a silver one that's taller (7'), has 6 metal shelves at 18" deep for $75, though people complain about this one being too flimsy.
Ayy Kunjiklub! Great to see ya in the comments as always 😁 My pleasure, always happy to help share any tips/info that could help fellow collectors. Thanks again for always watching & supporting! 🥰🙏
Wow Peter, I am blown away and very inspired by your video. I have 6 Detolfs but need a better way to display my collectibles and don't want the wait or cost of Moducases, and I think your solution is just what I need! Question about your acrylic panels, what is the thickness? I have scoured Amz and can't find the right product and will try glass/plastics stores in my area, but am not sure if I should be pricing 1/16", 1/8", or something else. The project seems daunting yet very exciting, thanks for the inspiration! (Edit... I see now it's written 1/8")
Aw wow thanks so much for sharing your kind words and positive feedback 🥰 I’m really glad you found this video helpful & inspiring 😁 As for the acrylic thickness, I went with 1/8” panels since I was worried that 1/16” might be too thin and fragile especially since I wasn’t planning on cutting them into individual pieces. I wanted them to be thick & sturdy since they would be covering the entire front-side of the cabinets. However it’s worth mentioning that they’re a bit heavy at full size. I’ve actually gotten rid of my detolfs recently to build another pair of garage cabinets in the living room - I plan on trying 1/16” acrylic sheets this time so I’ll try to put out a video update whenever I get around to finishing the build in the coming months. I hope that helps. Indeed the project may seem daunting but after owning detolfs for several years, I can honestly say that I wish I had converted to garage shelves sooner. Posing & displaying figures is much more fun because they’re no longer restricted to a tiny cube space. Plus, you can sell your detolfs locally for some quick cash to fund the garage shelves - that’s what I did 😁
@@PosingwithPeter Thanks for the great info. I might be biting off more than I can chew on my project, but I am eyeing 77" x 72" x 48" garage shelves. I mocked up my vision in photoshop and conceptually, it would be a great long display for all my Hot Toy and NBA Enterbay one-sixth figures, Star Wars helmets, 1:4 scale statues and 1:1 scale prop replicas. However, now that you've cautioned me about the weight, I'm nervous that 77" x 72" at 1/8" thickness may be way too heavy and I may be delusional about the magnets being able to support the panel. I'd love to hear how 1/16" acrylic sheets work out for your new project. Best of luck on them, can't wait to see your video on it!
There you are! ALWAYS a pleasure seeing ya in the comments 🤩🙌 Indeed settling into to a new place takes WAY longer than I imagined 😂 Thanks for always watching & commenting 🥰 I appreciate you so much and I can’t wait to see ya in future live chats! ❤️
Thanks so much! Aw dang I was just a whee-bit too late putting this video out 😂 Well in case you ever decide to convert to this type of display, this video will be here to help guide ya with the process 😊
what i used for the shelves is Acrylic felt fabric. I believe it's what moducase uses as well. It's not pure wool felt, its thinner and it looks just like felt. You couldn't tell. It's very affordable too. And for the backboard pvc foam boards is the way to go. Its another thing moducase uses.. Sleek looking, lightweight & easy to cut. These display cases came out great!!! A lot of options out there.
Thanks for making this video, it’s a great supplement to Costa’s the o.g. I needed the black bedsheet tip! Also good to see the one big acrylic front panel is a workable option. Scoring/cutting that stuff is brutal.
Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback! 😊 I’m really glad you found the tips on the black bedsheet and large acrylic sheet helpful - yeah when I saw Costa manually cutting/scoring the acrylics into smaller pieces in his video, my lower back screamed “nope, ain’t happening” 😂
Turned out great. That’s funny, basically built what are you guys see on my background three years ago doing something very similar. I guess I should’ve made a video lol. Only difference for me is I use Phillips hue strip lights, and spotlights, and I used full white acrylic for the back rather than wood with sheets. So much better than detolfs though and it’s fun to build!
Anthony! Great to see ya in the comments 🤩🙌 Haha yeah man you definitely should’ve shared the knowledge with everyone a few years ago! Would’ve helped save fellow collectors a ton of money by switching to Geico, err I mean custom display cabinets 😂 But yeah man it definitely looks way more premium and sleek than detolfs. If Hot Toys reissues the 89 Batmobile then I’m DEFINITELY building a separate 24” cabinet to house that beauty🤞 And thanks for stopping by! Always a pleasure seeing ya on the streams with Lael / Will / Jay / Dante and the gang. Would love to have ya on a future posing livestream at some point if you’re ever down (I really gotta jump start that show lol)
@@PosingwithPeter yessir anytime. Hit me up on FB or IG! And yeah lol I planned on doing a video but I finished it before I decided to and would rather record it AS I’m building it. But you’re right, so much better than detolfs and so much more creativity with posing :) Keep up those posing!
AWESOME VIDEO, Peter! I too came across Costa's ingenious videos first, and they really inspired me to make my own DIY Display Case for my dinosaur figures collection. I love how he goes in depth with his step by step process on the whole build, as well as sharing exactly what he used and where he bought everything from. I then found your video where you've taken Costa's ideas and added to them with a few great ideas of your own! And I appreciate that you've shared what you'd bought and from where as well. It helps tremendously in gathering all the supplies I'll need to build my own. :) I also like how you used one long sheet of acrylic on the front, so that you can change the shelf heights in the future if you want to. I think that was brilliant! And I really loved your idea of using the microfiber bed sheets to cover the backs and shelves. Your idea sparked my imagination and led me to discover a way to help bring my display to life. Since I'm going for realism in my build, I'm planning to use a cloth rainforest photography backdrop to attach to the background of my shelf unit, and a grass photography backdrop cloth for the shelves themselves that the dinosaurs will stand on. I think it's going to look so cool! :oD I only have one question for you: at 6:25 you state that you applied two layers of magnetic tape around the edges for each panel. Since you didn't add the weather strips like Costa did, I was wondering what your reasoning was for using 2 layers of the magnetic tape instead of just one layer? Thank you so much for making this video and sharing it, Peter! It really adds to the awesome tips that Costa shared, and helps make the build even better! And your collection is AMAZING! I LOVE how very REAL all of your figures look! Just fantastic all the way around!!!! :) ~ Danalynn
Hi Danalynn! Wow thanks SO much for your incredibly positive feedback! I’m so glad you enjoyed both my and Costa’s cabinet tutorials, and I LOVE how you’ll be using rainforest backdrop & grass as flooring for your dinosaur diorama display! That’s gonna be so EPIC! To answer your question, I double-layered the magnetic tape since there would still be a small gap for dust to seep through if I had only used a single layer of magnetic tape… additionally a single layer wasn’t strong enough to hold the large acrylic panel to the metal rack, so using double layer magnetic tape not only added some thickness as dust-prevention but also allowed the magnetic tape to make contact with the metal frame. It’s worth mentioning that I’m currently building 2 more cabinets just like this in my living room right now but instead of using double layer magnetic tape, I’m trying out small circular neodymium magnets. They’re much stronger and cheaper too, so I may end up reverting back to using normal pile/foam weather stripping to dust proof. We shall see 😁 I hope that helps clarify, and thanks again so much for your kind words and support 😊 Best of luck on your custom cabinet build! If you end up making a video/collection tour after everything is all setup then please be sure to drop me the link! 🤩🙏
Aw thanks man! 🥰 Haha how coincidental -- I was literally just watching your epic posing video for Pennywise and had just left a comment over there at the same time you were writing this 😂 I gotta get you, John, and Lael on a posing livestream in the near future. I'll reach out to ya guys when I'm ready to launch that show in the coming weeks!
Oh wow that’s so awesome! I’m really glad you enjoyed my video and you found inspiration from it 😁 Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback - Happy Collecting! 😊🙏
@@lI-tm2pn I actually still have a Billy book case! it was the very first cabinet that I used when I began collecting 1/6 figures (prior to owning detolfs). Indeed Billy bookcases are less expensive, but unfortunately they don’t provide nearly as much shelf space compared to storage these racks. $89 Billy bookcase: 31.5” wide x 11” deep $99 Shelf Rack: 48” wide x 18” deep Pretty significant increase in surface area for $11. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference. Billy bookcases are definitely a budget-friendly solution, no doubt. This video was simply meant to compare & contrast the popular Moducase design & prices.
VERY very good video my man!! I saw the original video that you did and I’m guessing that’s why yours popped up on my feed. You did an awesome job. Love what both you guys did and I’m looking forward to doing the same for my collection. Thanks for taking the time in making this video. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Ayy thanks so much for your kind words and awesome feedback! I’m really glad you enjoyed both our videos and that you also plan on making a custom cabinet 😁Best of luck with the build! 🙌
Man this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I’ve been looking for something like this. I love the way you can customize the build. I will check the other videos out to see what the more details you are referring to.
Sweet! I’m really glad my video was able to help provide you some insight into what you were looking for - and definitely check out Costa’s videos! They really helped me prepare for this project 😁 Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback! 🙏
Do you think we could get a "Year Later" update on these? I built my own after following along with Costa and you. I found that 1.) the tape on the back that secures the hardboard starts failing and coming off over time and 2.) the magnetic tape I used on the acrylic actually started peeling off and just sticking to the metal shelves on it's own - so any time I wanted to take the front acrylic sheet off, most of the magnetic strips were left behind on the shelf itself. In your video you mention using "2 layers of magnetic tape" - are you saying you actually stacked the tape on top of itself? Because when you're showing it in the video, it seems to only be a single layer. Just curious!
Gosh!!! you always surprise me not only for the video but also for the pose of the dx08 that I will have to take as a reference for mine. Excellent video
Haha you’re not too far from the truth! I think I released my last video in March, then went apartment hunting in April, packed & moved in May, been gradually setting up the new place and began ordering the parts/materials for this build in June, and now we’re pretty much in August 😂 Alas, thanks so much for the warm welcome back! 🥰🙏
Very interesting DIY project you have done there. All collector faces the same problem, the dreaded free display space, and this is quite a interesting and affordable solution. Might personaly change a few things but it gives me ideas how to tackle my own future DIY project!
Yep yep, shelf space is definitely one of the biggest challenges for fellow collectors but I’m happy to hear that you may borrow from this video with some personal tweaks here and there - that’s the beauty of customization 😁 Best of luck if you go this route, and thanks for watching!
Awesome work Peter and it looks amazing ! Nice to see you use a power tool they'll be no stopping you now 😁 enjoy your new home you crazy kids, stay safe and have fun 😎
Ayy John great to see ya in the comments! Thanks man, indeed the jig-saw cutter scared the crap outta me at first especially since I've never cut any wood before, so it was definitely a confidence booster even if it was just the tiny corners 😂 Likewise my friend stay safe and have a great weekend!
I used black felt to tape to cover the shelve and led wires, everything else was really close to this love it! So much cheaper and faster than moducase!
Peter! So great to see another video from you mate, and what a video! The new display looks amazing, you’ve done a great job! And the posing… my god 👌🏻😙
Hahaha thanks so much Al! Likewise my friend it's been really great seeing ya in a some livestreams with Lael here and there -- I'm usually unable to catch them live but I try to go back and watch the replays when I can. Would love to have ya on a future Posing Livestreams at some point if you're ever down! 😊
@@PosingwithPeter oh man! Thank you so much!! I’d love to be on more streams but you know what it’s like, family and life in general keeps getting in the way 😆 I’m still a rookie when it comes to being on camera 😆 but I’m getting better each time I think! I’d love to join you on a stream sometime Peter! What an absolute honour 🙌🏻
Haha oh for sure man, I can barely make a new video once every few months and I don't even have kids so I totally understand how life can get in the way 😵💫😂 And yeah man, my goal for the posing livestreams is to be a pretty chill vibe -- doesn't matter whether you're experienced vs rookie, just wanna have a fun time with the guests & live chat. We'll connect more on FB or IG once I actually launch Pose Academy Live 👍
@@PosingwithPeter life is just so busy lately isn’t it! It’s frightening how quickly the fun stuff can get overtaken by the responsibilities of being an adult! That’s just life I guess! Ohhh man that sounds so awesome, definitely let me know when you’re up and running with it all! I’m 100% in 😄 (adult responsibilities be damned 😂)
Hey Peter welcome back 😁 congrats to the both of you on your new apartment, and loving your new display case as well and the fact you built it from scratch is bloody awesome and the figure displays superb as always until next time Peter 🤟
Hey James! Always a pleasure seeing ya in the comments 😊 Thanks so much for the warm welcome back and happy wishes on the new apartment 🥰 I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and new display cabinets! It was a fun project that I’d been yearning to do for a while and I’m really glad others can enjoy & appreciate it from afar vicariously 😁 Thanks for stopping by! Stay safe my friend 🙏
Peter thank you and excellent display 👍🏽. I'm using your tutorial to do my own case. I'm in the research process before starting to acquire the items. I have a question , when laying down the vinyl tape on the acrylic, when you do the 1-1/2 side, what do you do with the excess since you are using a 2in roll? Do you wrap around the excess and place the magnetic tape on top of the excess acrylic tape or do you cut the excess vinyl tape? Has anyone tried screwing the side acrylic panels to the frame?? Since those wont move , is it possible to uses screws, washers and bolts? Thank you for this video and your poses are jaw dropping
This is incredible and looks super premium. This is something I definitely will love to try when I get a new place. Thanks for the video with so much info
My pleasure! It brings me joy being able to help fellow collectors in any way that I can so I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful/informative enough to possibly try yourself in the future 🤩🙌 Thanks so much for watching & for sharing your positive feedback! 🙏
Thanks a lot Peter for sharing this video. I live in France and I'm gonna try to do something similar to yours, hope I can get all the materials. I have a question concerning the panels. How do you cover each side of the panels? I know you used bedsheets for the upper part, but I did not get what did you do with the other part. Paint? More bedsheets? Thanks a lot, cheers!
Thank you so freaking much for this. Especially for it being straight to the point instead of an hour+ long video I have to dig through to find what I need. I'm going to use what you've done and try to modify it a tiny bit to make a sort of "Geenhouse Cabinet". (Just one, not two). I don't need it it to be air tight, enough to keep dust out will be enough to keep the humidity a little higher. I'm going to attempt to use acrylic or glass shelves depending on how much I can afford because I'll need it a little thicker. Maybe I could modify it to only be glass/acrylic for the very center portions of the shelves... I'll have to think on it. I also want to add thin wood framing around the front and sides so I can add opening doors to the front (for watering). Ugh, this is going to be a big project lol. If you have any suggestions let me know! But again THANK YOU. I've been trying to figure out how to build something like this that's at least 16-18" deep for about 3yrs now. And YOU are the only one who has made a video that makes me think it's possible.
@@PosingwithPeter definitely I appreciate it I’m a lucky man and happy with everything going on with me and my wife to be come October big things haha now I can put my whole collection out finally with this video 🔥
This is such a great video! I use the same type of shelving units but qill have to consider the backing and led in the future! The size customizability of the shelves is a huge plus. Thanks for posting!
Nice! Indeed adding the backing & LED lighting definitely elevates it to a more premium aesthetic so I highly recommend adding it to your shelving units as well 😁 And of course, it’s my pleasure to share these tips! Conversely, thanks so much for watching & commenting 🥰🙏
Thanks! And they’re still holding up really well! Dust hasn’t gotten into the cabinets per se, and I just use one of the acrylic wipes/clothes to clean off the frontside maybe once a month. I will say that these lights do generate some warmth though, and now that’s it’s in the summer months it can get a bit warm in this room if I’m not running the fan or air conditioner. Other than that, I’m still really glad I went this route 😁
Great video Peter, that's what I'm gonna do for my Batmobile display cabinet, I already have 2 racks, obviously bigger than yours, but they are still in their boxes, first my wife and I need to repaint the TV/collectibles room, then your guide will come handy
Thanks for this video. Definitely helpful. I was thinking Moducase but the waiting is to long. Plexiglass is getting expensive as well but this is the best way to get a display case faster.
Awesome! It’s my pleasure to help spread the knowledge & tips with everyone so I’m really glad you found this video helpful ☺️ Thanks for watching & for sharing your positive feedback!
Looks great! I am working on my own display cabinets based on this video and Costa's display case build. One of my acrylic sheets is holding great, while the other is not staying very well. All the magnetic tape is doubled up and nothing is obstructed, but the magnetic force is extremely weak on some of the strips that it isn't holding. Any advice? I am considering buying some stronger magnetic tape from somewhere other than Amazon or Wal Mart to ensure I get quality magnetic tape.
Honestly…..this is one of the most realistic DIY builds and that spreadsheet at the end…..Chefs kiss my dude. Even for a chic like me, I wanted to find an adultish display for my WW stuff and other collectibles even though yours are next level. Nevertheless I didn’t want those stupid expensive for no reason cubbies. It was great that you still mentioned and linked the inspo project. Sometimes doing something for the first time is what sets others out on the same journey to find shortcuts or other ways that will suit them. Thanks for being of great character and integrity.
Aw wow Rebecca, seriously thanks so much for taking the time to share such kind words and positive feedback - it truly means a lot to me 😊🙏 I’m also glad you really enjoyed the itemized spreadsheet too 😂 Indeed, although Costa had already made an incredibly detailed tutorial that inspired me for this project, my goal for making my own video was to also help inspire others by sharing my build process along with all the parts / tools / prices in order to hopefully make it less daunting and more accessible to anyone who’s willing to try ☺️ If you do end up building these for your WW Collection then I wish ya the best of luck on your project! Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, and thanks again for your compliments & support! You got this 🤩🙌
Aw thanks for the warm welcome back 🥰 Now that I've got a dedicated workspace I'll be gearing up to kick off posing livestreams in the coming weeks/months so stay tuned, and thanks for watching!
Thanks KeCo! I think I recall you mentioning on someone's livestream that you didn't consider yourself a very handy person with this kind of custom-build stuff, so hopefully this video helps give ya the same kind of boost that I needed to get started 😁
Great guide my man, I plan to build one of these some time in the future, only issue is I'd have to make mine lockable...maybe I'd get a tool that could drill on acrylic without breaking it and run that through the shelf's holes. If you ever mod it to be lockable please do update us!
Oh that’s a good point, I’ve never had to lock my cabinets since I don’t really have parties or guests but I’m sure there are other videos that cover how to carefully drill holes into acrylic. That’s the beauty of UA-cam - there’s always a tutorial for something 😂 Either way I hope ya find a way to lock them up if you end up building cabinets like this ☺️ And thanks for watching!
I did the same for my shelving. But instead of black. I did mine white. Thx for the vid. But how thick was your acrylic panels. And where did u buy them
Thanks a lot for the inspiring video! Are your acrylic panels standing on the floor and only use magnets to not diverge from the rack or are they hanging completely by magnetic force? If first, do you think latter might work, or are they too heavy and will just slide down to the floor anyway (especially front panel, which is 16 lbs in your case I think)?
Aw thanks so much for your kind words, I’m really glad my videos help inspire ya with ideas for your collection ☺️ I’m not exactly sure when I’ll be able to upload new videos - I’m still collecting new figures and was hoping to put out a Collection Tour 2023 video sometime but I haven’t filmed anything new since I had to step away from the hobby for a bit. I truly do appreciate your patience and support though, and thanks so much for watching! 🙏
What a great idea for a cabinet!,been thinking when i get to it,about moducases & should i just go for them over the detolf option, this looks like a fab option that hopefully should give great results, thanks for highlighting this & the video 👍
Nice! Yeah it’s a bit of a dilemma choosing detolfs vs Moducase vs custom display since they each have pros and cons. I’m glad this video helped provide some insight 😁 Thanks for watching & sharing your positive feedback!
Hi, really appreciate your video. This has been super helpful. Can I ask how you made the bottom of the shelving black as well? Did you also use the bed sheet on the bottom?
Sweet I'm excited to hear you'll be getting started on your own custom cabinet soon! Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions / concerns, and thanks again for your continued support! 🙏
@@PosingwithPeterwill do! Thanks again and when you get the chance, check out this quick comparison video I did for the 3rd party Shockwaves! ua-cam.com/video/kDd8n1pZaGA/v-deo.html
Hi Peter, great build! Did you ever look into adding skinny drawers at the bottom to store accessories for ease of swap out accessories for your display? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts! If I was going to follow your build, I would personally consider a way to hide the interior metal frame at the back as well. But very well done! Also Do you find the natural light in the room is a bit cut off due to the shelf blocking the window?
As it happens I did consider using smaller drawers / cubbies on the bottom for accessories n stuff, but upon building the cabinets I realized they’re waaaaayy too heavy for anything to be placed underneath. Fortunately the boxes & accessories for each figure are all within reach in the closet across the room. As for hiding the metal frame at the back, a quick & easy solution could be to either cover those holes using black vinyl tape or simply buy a black poster board then cut out individual rectangles that match the size in height & width. And lastly, I deliberately placed the cabinets in front of the window since I didn’t want natural light entering that room. It can get hot kinda in the summer, and also natural light tends to cause more unsightly reflections on the front acrylic panels of the cabinet which distracts from the figures, so I wanted to limit the amount of natural light by placing the cabinets in front of the windows with the blinds closed. I hope that helps, and thanks so much for watching / commenting! 😁🙏
** FAQ **
Hi everyone!
It’s been a year since I made this video and I’ve been fortunate enough to receive such overwhelmingly positive feedback along with many follow up questions on the build process. I figured it best to address some of these frequently asked questions so you don’t have to go looking for the answer in the comments below ☺️
* What thickness are the acrylic panels? *
1/8th inch for each panel all around.
I fully inserted the connectors as much as possible into each end of the light bar then folded / bent the wire-connector 90 degrees to fit into the cabinet. It’s a tight squeeze but you can briefly see it around the 5:55 mark. Alternatively if you can buy the 3-foot light bars instead for better clearance without the need to forcefully bend any connectors.
* Did you wrap both sides of the shelves in black cloth or just the top side? *
I wrapped both sides of each shelf in black cloth for the sake of uniformity. It requires more material but was worth the final outcome in my opinion.
* How is the magnetic tape holding up? *
Some parts of the adhesive magnetic tape did indeed wear off after uploading this video possibly due to weather / climate or just cheap materials. An easy solution was buying this pack of small circular neodymium magnets. I just super-glued a few of them around the corners & edges of acrylic borders for a much stronger magnetic hold to the metal frame.
Non-affiliate link: a.co/d/3TnxNvw
* How did you join the cabinets together? *
Just inserted black zip ties through the holes of the vertical metal frames where the 2 cabinets meet in the center.
(To keep the cloth as clean & taut as possible on both surfaces.)
I would guess the surface you cover last becomes the top-side so the visible fold+tacks are hidden under by the frame.
I'm curious to how you wrapped the black sheet all around the shelfs and how you stapled it to look so perfect. Could you make video?
Peter. This is a great video! I'm happy I could help you out. You're posing skills are on another level. Congrats on building a display case worthy of your talents!
The man, the myth, the legend himself! 🤩
Seriously thanks again Costa, building this has been dream of mine for quite a long time and it simply would not have come to fruition were it not for your super helpful videos & friendly/inviting attitude. The collecting community is undoubtedly a better place thanks to you, and I for one am forever grateful for all that you do for us 😊🙏

You did an amazing job my brother. The video is definitely a helpful one of making these.
I agree, sometimes we bite off more than we chew and end up cramming too many figures into a limited shelf space so I’m really glad you appreciate the effort I put into how I display them 😁
Thanks for watching & sharing your positive feedback!
As a long time wargammer, all I can say is "This is the way." Excellent work, great design and awesome modularity. Fantastic
Thanks so much! Appreciate your compliments & support ☺️
That Qui-Gonn getting the blade is FAN-TASTIC! Great video

awesome vid and build man, i also really appreciate the transparency with how much it cost you, I often get really annoyed when there's any sort of person showcasing a project then having this weird ass obsession with hiding information.
Aw thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback! Yeah transparency was key since my goal here was to inform & inspire, and I also can’t stand it when various content creators act like gatekeepers on whatever it is that they’re trying to demonstrate 😂
Well done Peter! This turned out so good!

Hell yeah Peter! I love what you did here! Costa's videos were amazing! Thanks to his videos I got the same lights you did and it worked wonders for lighting up the shelves! I'm definitely excited to see some live streams from you in the future, but for now take care and have fun with your new shelves!
Always a pleasure to see ya in the comments Dylan 🥰 I agree man, Costa's are complete game-changers not only for 1:6 collectors but for the collecting community as a whole. I envy ya though, even in the new apartment I still don't have the space for larger collectibles like quarter scale or status 😂

I like that you did the front clear panel as one large instead of separate per shelf ...nice job
Those poses make the display look so good
Thanks Christian!

The models are incredible and the way you have displayed look the best. 😎
Aw thanks so much! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate your support 😊
Nice! If you can get one for $95 in black with adjustable shelves then I’d say go for it if the 24” depth fits your collection! 🤩🙌
Good addendum to Costa’s build series. Your display cases look sleek and effective.
Thanks! I appreciate your compliments & support 😊
Wow, great tips Peter. Thanks for sharing this. Definitely a good and more affordable option than module
Aw wow thanks so much for sharing your kind words and positive feedback 🥰 I’m really glad you found this video helpful & inspiring 😁
As for the acrylic thickness, I went with 1/8” panels since I was worried that 1/16” might be too thin and fragile especially since I wasn’t planning on cutting them into individual pieces.
Wow! Such an amazing display! I can't wait to see some more posing videos when you finally get settled in!

This winter I plan on building my own glass door display cases on my Channel. Interesting idea using the metal racks though! 👍
Oh nice! Custom glass doors are way beyond me, much respect to ya 👊😎🔥
@@PosingwithPeter well I actually plan to use clear acrylic sheets. Lowe’s sells large sheets, and if need be; they can trim it for you there.
what i used for the shelves is Acrylic felt fabric.
😃 Fantastic cabinet. Great new poses in that video. Thank you for sharing all this.

@@PosingwithPeter yeah it’s madness cutting that plexiglass.
Excellent execution
Thanks so much!
I was really debating on spending $900 on a display case, glad I came across this video. Already ordered half the materials lol.
Dang that’s awesome! I’m really glad you decided to go this route instead 😁
Would’ve helped save fellow collectors a ton of money by switching to Geico, err I mean custom display cabinets 😂
But yeah man it definitely looks way more premium and sleek than detolfs. If Hot Toys reissues the 89 Batmobile then I’m DEFINITELY building a separate 24” cabinet to house that beauty🤞
And thanks for stopping by!
But you’re right, so much better than detolfs and so much more creativity with posing :)
Keep up those posing!
:oD
I only have one question for you: at 6:25 you state that you applied two layers of magnetic tape around the edges for each panel.
:)
~ Danalynn
We shall see 😁
I hope that helps clarify, and thanks again so much for your kind words and support 😊 Best of luck on your custom cabinet build! If you end up making a video/collection tour after everything is all setup then please be sure to drop me the link! 🤩🙏
@@PosingwithPeter did you end up going full circular magnets?
Nice. 👍 I had seen the original video already, but it was cool seeing your take on it. And it's always nice to hear your enthusiastic voice again 🤗👍
Aw thanks man! 🥰 Haha how coincidental -- I was literally just watching your epic posing video for Pennywise and had just left a comment over there at the same time you were writing this 😂
I gotta get you, John, and Lael on a posing livestream in the near future. I'll reach out to ya guys when I'm ready to launch that show in the coming weeks!

WOW, this is such a great creative, and budget-friendly idea! This has inspired me to take my collection out of storage and proudly display it
Oh wow that’s so awesome! I’m really glad you enjoyed my video and you found inspiration from it 😁
Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback - Happy Collecting! 😊🙏
How exactly is this budget friendly lol. Two of these cost 630 pre tax. minus light bars. You can get two billy book cases with doors for 500.
$89 Billy bookcase: 31.5” wide x 11” deep
$99 Shelf Rack: 48” wide x 18” deep
Pretty significant increase in surface area for $11.
At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference. Billy bookcases are definitely a budget-friendly solution, no doubt. This video was simply meant to compare & contrast the popular Moducase design & prices.
This is amazing. I totally want to do this to display all my lego sets. 🤩
Ohhh that would be awesome!
VERY very good video my man!!
I saw the original video that you did and I’m guessing that’s why yours popped up on my feed. You did an awesome job. Love what both you guys did and I’m looking forward to doing the same for my collection.
Thanks for taking the time in making this video.

They really helped me prepare for this project 😁
Thanks so much for watching and for sharing your positive feedback!
Aw thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoy the video & DX08 pose 😊
quite beautiful. You posed those hot toys so well.
Well done. this gives me inspiration
I'm so glad I stumbled on this video! Excellent ideas!
Thanks! I’m really glad you enjoyed the video 😁
When posing with Peter Returns because he spent months building his new display cabinet XD. All seriousness good to see you again and welcome back.
Haha you’re not too far from the truth! I think I released my last video in March, then went apartment hunting in April, packed & moved in May, been gradually setting up the new place and began ordering the parts/materials for this build in June, and now we’re pretty much in August 😂
Alas, thanks so much for the warm welcome back! 🥰🙏
Very interesting DIY project you have done there. All collector faces the same problem, the dreaded free display space, and this is quite a interesting and affordable solution. Might personaly change a few things but it gives me ideas how to tackle my own future DIY project!
Yep yep, shelf space is definitely one of the biggest challenges for fellow collectors but I’m happy to hear that you may borrow from this video with some personal tweaks here and there - that’s the beauty of customization 😁
Best of luck if you go this route, and thanks for watching!
Awesome work Peter and it looks amazing ! Nice to see you use a power tool they'll be no stopping you now 😁 enjoy your new home you crazy kids, stay safe and have fun 😎
Ayy John great to see ya in the comments! Thanks man, indeed the jig-saw cutter scared the crap outta me at first especially since I've never cut any wood before, so it was definitely a confidence booster even if it was just the tiny corners 😂

@@PosingwithPeter looking forward to your future uploads ! We always have great weekends 😁 hope yours went well 😎
I used black felt to tape to cover the shelve and led wires, everything else was really close to this love it! So much cheaper and faster than moducase!
Nice! Indeed the whole custom build really helped save us on time & money 🤑😁
Thanks for watching!
Man, those shelfs look amazing well done.
Thanks Tom!
What an awesome idea! And let me say, if you can set up the shelf, you're competent enough to use a power tool. Don't be afraid of diy stuff.
Thanks! And I agree - I held off on using power tools for so long… if only I had the courage to try sooner 😅
Peter! So great to see another video from you mate, and what a video! The new display looks amazing, you’ve done a great job! And the posing… my god 👌🏻😙

Your posing is fantastic! Love the storytelling.
Thanks so much! I’m really glad you enjoy the poses & story telling 😁🙌 I appreciate your compliments & support! 🙏
I’m so hyped for this when I buy a house in the coming months after my wedding ,

This is such a great video! I use the same type of shelving units but qill have to consider the backing and led in the future! The size customizability of the shelves is a huge plus.

Would love to see/hear an update on these as far as holding out dirt, dust, pros and cons. Well done!
@@PosingwithPeter awesome! Thanks for the update. I’m definitely going to go this way after seeing and hearing of your success. Thanks so much!

Congrats on the new home and thanks for the video. Looks amazing!
Thanks so much on both fronts! I appreciate ya 😁
Aw wow Rebecca, seriously thanks so much for taking the time to share such kind words and positive feedback - it truly means a lot to me 😊🙏
I’m also glad you really enjoyed the itemized spreadsheet too 😂 Indeed, although Costa had already made an incredibly detailed tutorial that inspired me for this project, my goal for making my own video was to also help inspire others by sharing my build process along with all the parts / tools / prices in order to hopefully make it less daunting and more accessible to anyone who’s willing to try ☺️

Thanks KeCo! I think I recall you mentioning on someone's livestream that you didn't consider yourself a very handy person with this kind of custom-build stuff, so hopefully this video helps give ya the same kind of boost that I needed to get started 😁
@@PosingwithPeter you are right! I can barely hang a photo. This look SUPER doable.
That’s the beauty of UA-cam - there’s always a tutorial for something 😂
Either way I hope ya find a way to lock them up if you end up building cabinets like this ☺️ And thanks for watching!
Your poses are incredible 👏🏻 ❤

did you have to buy extra extension cord wires for the lights or did the lights originally come with enough to complete the whole display?
Hi, really appreciate your video. This has been super helpful.

Wow this is impressive. Thanks for the inspiration and for making an enjoyable and helpful video for others.
