We have this unit and LOVE IT! Plenty of storage. Added 4 large decorative baskets above kitchen cabinets for lesser used items. Still haven’t filled up the storage under the dinette seats! Love the table being movable too. We’ve used it outside and as an island for the kitchen once. Our tall son had plenty of room sleeping in the booth. Opted for the sofa instead of the recliners so both boys have a place to sleep. Very very rarely are both with us but the option suited our family. We purchased a cheap storage ottoman at Walmart for in front of it and it works and looks great. This is our first RV and we feel like we hit the motherload. I’ll post pictures later

This is a great 5th wheel! The size doesn’t take away from any interior amenities except maybe w/d and a large pantry, neither of which would stop me from wanting this. And at my age this is the only Cougar I can get! 😂
LOVE this one! The colors are beautiful and I really like the "wood" wall behind the U-dinette and bed. Great counter space, nice bathroom, I'm impressed!
Really nice, if I'm nit picking, two things come to mind, one is the slide closes off the bathroom in travel mode, and two, whisper ducted AC would be a bonus. I think the size and the layout more than outweigh the two things I mentioned, so this one is a winner for those of us who don't want to pull a mobile home size rig around.
We've asked Cougar about whisper ducting. They feel their Coleman Whisper Air is doing pretty much the same thing. I 100% acknowledge those Coleman airs are quieter, but the whisper ducting like on an Eagle is quieter still -- no question. Still.. the Cougar's air doesn't operate at what I consider an "offensive" or "distracting" volume by any means.
My husband and I have been trying to upgrade our camping experience with a new camper for a little over a year now. We have looked at many units. Loved a lot of units but through all we have looked at . Didnt find everything we want in just one unit until we came up on this beautiful smaller 5th wheel Cougar. It surely is a very Hot good looking Cougar .When I say we fell in love with it . We both were so excited because it had everything we had been looking . We need less to say we are purchasing one just like this very one . Saturday we will be taking our new baby home. The backup lights on that 5th wheel are no joke. Those lights {I rewired my boat trailer, converting them to 100% LED} and the ones on my boat trailer are the same lumen rating {I researched it}. My driveway is 350 foot long, but its narrow, so I have to back in from the road. My garage gets lit up by the backup lights from my boat trailer from the road!!!
If and when we upgrade to a 3/4 Ton truck, this will be our unit. Love this unit for a couples RV. I like this bedroom with the queen better than the travel trailer version of this unit with a king. Much easier to walk around and great side table setup. I do wish however that the nice subway tile backsplash wrapped around the entire kitchen area.
I was watching one of your Arctic Wolf 5th wheel videos earlier and I liked how they gave customers the option of whether they wanted a TV from the factory or not. I've got two TVs in my 5th wheel and I hardly ever use them. Would be a nice option to save money and some people want to put their own TV in anyways. Really like these short but still full-time rated RVs. If they could manage to fit a washer/dryer prep in there somewhere, it would be perfect.
This is a really nice looking unit that we may look at in a few years when we are ready to go full time. Wish is had a convection microwave as well as at least a prep for a combo washer/dryer unit in the closet.
This is high on our list for camp hosting as we do now, but we would need to figure out how to put a live outlet from the inverter in the dinette such that we can power our computers & external monitors, etc. It looks like we might squeeze in 3 BB batteries, if not four, knowing they can stack or be sideways as needed & the solar controller be upgraded such that 3-400 watts also be on the ground should tbe camp host site shading require on the ground augmentation so that 12-volt compressor fridge can hum along. Food for thought as we use our current hosting experiences to design our next setup. How sturdy is the rear ladder, will it hold our 25' telescoping mast holding our 4G high gain yagi WeBoost antenna velcroed to it, etc. Camp Hosts camp in USFS areas far from utilities & in the mountains the fine to nickel sized hail most afternoons demands vent covers with some protection from those elements as well as plumbing stack venturi upgrades to better survive the hail also. But the fishing is stellar the ATV or dude by side to be towed as doubles exciting too, lol. Food for thought, see you in the fall.
Your videos are the best thanks to you we knew what to look at, saw the Grand Design version of this at RV show, loved it, DW likes the larger shower and fireplace in this one, at the top of our list in the near future, just a suggestion but people seem to be wider these days so a comment or measurement on the length and width of the shower would be greatly appreciated, even at the manufacture level.
Josh, you put up this unit weighs (+/-) 8360 lbs. It has no second A/C, no slide toppers, no dual-pane windows yet it weighs 1000 lbs more than the advertised weight (which I thought was an average of multiple units). Surely the optional theater seating and fireplace don’t account for 1000 lbs. Hope you can clarify.
I'm with you Josh,I wish it was travel friendly,like the 25res is.if we could get to the upper level without the slide out.us fluffy people can't just bump the slide out.....lol I love the camp side space of this and the 23mls for sitting under the awning listening to the jukebox with an adult beverage.

I live in Savannah, now, but if I can buy one of these, I'll drive the 1k+ miles up there to do business with your company because you're a goofball. I do love this 5th wheel. I've always wanted a toyhauler because I ride motorcycles (street & touring). I'm looking for a "base camp" trailer to live in and use my bikes to explore American on...this one fits the bill completely.
Josh, very impressive for it’s size! My only negative is not specific to this unit- whose idea was it to move the controls on the theater seats to the center? They used to be like a love seat- I think this design is terrible.
My dually wouldn’t even know this is there lol. I like the floorplan on this one 👍 Could I pull a small 2 door Jeep behind this since the length is only 28 feet?
Hopefully they do something about medicine cabinet being so low. Bang your head on it trying to brush your teeth or wash you face also the loud squeal where the shower door squeegee scrapes the door. Also need the recirculating hot water to save water and tank space.
A *LOT* of brands actually include them, but ship them loose so you can install them where you please. You'd be similarly surprised to see how many people will claim a towel bar is in the "wrong spot" regardless of where it's installed. Bathrooms/bedrooms are really personal and specific like that it seems
My first mod will be to change the towel rack to hooks. Keystone is not alone with this, but I do not understand how they figure a single towel rack will suffice. I've seen bunk room units that sleep 10 and still only have a single place to hang a towel. So far, the KZ Durango is the only one I've see that uses hooks.
There is so, so much to like about this unit. As you noted, they Need Struts on all 6 flip up overhead doors. The ones over the dinette and especially over the bed are difficult to reach with structs and even more so when reaching over something needing both hands - one to oven and the other to access. Keystone does so many customer friendly things - why skimp on a few dollars worth of struts? An other small dislike - OSB instead of plywood under the bed. It looks and feels bad and cheap. It does not matter how much you sand the edge it will never feel good on your hands when opening.
I know it's fair feedback when I have a hard time disagreeing lol. Thanks for joining us on another video :) Something I've seen people do is use copper piping tubing around underbed decking to smooth that edge out. A little glue and you're good to go! The struts are one of those things that irk me too. I could add them. I don't necessarily feel I should need to. But I could still swallow it. Overall wouldn't be deal breakers for me personally But that's why we carry all these things. They're all "fine tuned" a little differently
Cougar has gained a little weight and cost the past few years, but they've done things like bulked up on their framing, Cargo capacity, and holding tank capacities as a result. I don't think Cougar gets the credit for a *lot* of what they do

One thing nobody seems to mention is if there is storage under the u dinette, I assume there is, I love this RV but they could have put a drawer at either end of the dinette and also there is no where to put your shoes and hang coats.
Jayco actually has phased out the 25.5REOK after the 24RE really overtook it in popularity Cougar still makes the 25RES however if you're seeking a camp kitchen
In watching this for the second time, I noticed a dump valve at the 19:45 mark. I thought there were only the two valves located at the docking center. Not that having the third valve is a deal breaker, just surprised at seeing one there. Good job on the walk through though. Appreciate the information.
The attic vent and it’s cooling capacity for the summer is great. But what about the shoulder season when Maoist would be best to have it closed to retain that extra heat?
Maintaining cabin temps is not usually an issue given the furnace sizes vs. cubic foot of space in these RVs. There's likely a loss there, but in a sense a little heat-bleed also helps keep an over-abundance of snow off the roofing
I appreciate the constructive input and suggestion. I often will but cannot overtly cover every item in every video. I've also put out content for viewers to help them identify slides themselves since most are plainly visible when touring the exterior of the RV Main slide on this is a cable system. The upper deck slide is a schwintek Though this is also aged 2021 footage and systems may change on more current offerings.
A little late on my part but the wife and I really like this cougar and was wondering if there was another brand of RV with the same interior layout and size in a fifth wheel for feature comparison ?
A few brands have attempted to build a copy of this, but they keep discontinuing them. Arctic Wolf for instance was going to build it, then just... didn't. Cougar seems to have a solid grasp on this one Eagle/Rockwood both make some smaller FWs of their own, but nothing quite like this layout
This is the only decor offered currently from cougar. Jayco does two interiors, but they don’t make this exact layout A 2500 should work here in most cases with this one
I have a question, probably because I am not from the states, you usually say you "don't do dealer fees" I have no idea what that means, maybe you can explain that for us, your subscribers outside of United States...
Not all, but *A LOT* of dealerships will advertise an amazing and too-good-to-be-true price tag. Then, when you get there you find out you also have to add hundreds more dollars for things like "Prep" and "readiness" among other things. I've seen $2,000 up to $5,200 of "mandatory add-ons" before. We just put everything right up front. It means our "price tag" is higher. But our out the door costs are usually lower.
That's always a tough balance. Cougar/Eagle are heavier on the nose than something like an arctic wolf, but usually have extra storage/construction reinforncement up front It's tricky like that...
That's a very nice small fifth wheel that tries to have camp side windows. Was comparing with Jayco 24RE and looks like this one beats it in that regard quite easily (except Jayco has that new massive pantrytainment). Does that new ceiling AC ducting help at all with the noise compared to Jayco's quiet system? Thanks for sharing Josh.
Cougar uses a Coleman Quiet A/C that runs quieter vs something like a Dometic Eagle HT uses both a Coleman Quiet A/C and a Whisper Ducting system. It will run more quietly I don't know if these little swirlygig air ducts will reduce noise though

I LOVE this model! It’s just my husband and I and one dog and we are retired. We just bought a 2021 F150, 5.5’ bed, with 3.5L eco boost V6 and maximum towing package. On the door it states 1851# cargo capacity but the manual states 2300# cargo capacity. Can our truck pull this? Also, love your videos!
Josh- what thickness and insulation does this model have in the side walls, rear wall (u mentioned an improvement there but didn’t say what), the front cap and roof? Also besides the enclosed underbelly and radiant reflective layer is there any other insulation in the flooring?
They added a 1" laminated wall atop the previous structure of the RV. Walls of anything in this class are pretty much all an R7 or R9 if 2" thick Laminated walls cannot have higher R-Value artificially since their R-Value is based exclusively on thickness. The floor construction itself is independently insulated apart from the radiant barrier and belly enclosure Again - that's normal in the industry

Really always has been. It's just becoming more obvious the past few seasons I think. There's a very logical progression from Cougar HT to Cougar to Montana HC to Montana I think
@@JoshtheRVNerd If were to buy a fifth wheel, it'd probably be the half ton version of either the Cougar or the Eagle, both have nice couples camping floorplans in coaches sized right for me.
Most half tons only have about a 1400 ib payload would this be adequate to pull this fifth wheel? You also have to take in account cargo and passenger weight. Probably still need a 3/4 or 1 ton truck to play it safe.
Yeah I only completed about half of the comparisons I wanted to, but we haven’t been able to keep enough campers on hand where I can jump between them side-by-side. Once the weather warms back up I’ll continue with the series of comparisons
Answer here kind of depends on how you plan to use the RV. For shorter distances & more modest terrain a PROPERLY EQUIPPED 1/2 ton (specifically with a *heavy payload package*) could get the job done But if you had any significant amount of traveling possible I would start with a 3/4 ton Our team at 800-256-5196 is always happy to assist you as well!

I have a 2021 Ram 1500 with the 5.7l eTorque motor and the 3.92 axle. It’s the Crew Cab with 5.7’ box. Specs say 2300 lbs max payload and 11,600 towing capacity. Can I tow this rig safely?

We have a a Ford-f150 with eco boost...2018. Would this work for us? Or would we be better off with a smaller travel trailer? We are in the South and want to travel to WY, SD, and Montana this summer. Or the Jayco Eagle 24 RE?
There is nothing about this that I don't like. I don't even care that I don't have av truck. I'd have it delivered to my destination camp site where I can hopefully retire to soon. I think this is my new favorite!! Just WOW!!

I would like to use the Springdale as a trade in for this new beautiful Cougar but it is in Annapolis, MO and it was towed to that spot for me and will need to be towed to you to do the trade for the new one which will then need to be towed to its new home... LOL did you follow that? The distance from Haylett to Annapolis is like 533 miles but ONLY 8 and a half hours. ;)
PROPER half-tons? Yes. The biggest hiccup here for a half ton is not the dry weight -- most tow package half tons can handle that no sweat. It's the hitch weight on this vs. the payload rating of a half-ton. MOST half tons, even with tow packages, do not have the proper payload ratings for even a small FW like this.

Love the driftwood decor look. Does this unit come with the option for a king bed? If so, could the large dinette be swapped out for 2 Heat/massage theatre chairs (and maybe install 1 end table between the 2 chairs or small countertop cabinets (w/wall plugins and USB ports on both) on either side of the chairs fastened to the walls) and could we put a table and chair set where the existing theatre sofa is located? Cougars are not currently offering king beds in their "Half Ton" branded fifth wheels, though Eagle HT now does (which you'll be finding at Haylett's moving forward) The seating swaps you're seeking are not factory-offered, though I'm sure we could work something out here. That faucet in the bathroom sink is off to the right, instead of centered over the sink. I wonder if that orientation feels weird to use, or if it's no big deal?
@@JoshtheRVNerd I disagree :) The extra space would be better to have behind the sink. That said I understand why they did it this way and I would rather have the drawers then better situated counter storage.
The part of the bathroom that baffles me is the open storage area at the bottom of the linen closet next to the toilet. I don't know of any male that has perfect aim 100% of the time and I wish they would have done this differently. The best solution would have been to put the linen on the other end of the shower allow linen access to the top half. Then the bottom half would provide space for 2-3 shallow drawers in the bedroom.
@@soccerdad8374 There are different benefits to different features and methods of course. Putting the faucet behind the sink means the entire cabinet and counter would need to be made deeper -- tricky in a small confined space like that where every inch matters. I can also advise most RV builders expect men to sit upon the toilet for "splash control," though obviously each user's method may vary lol :)
@@JoshtheRVNerd I got that. When I married over 40 years ago my wife said, "You stand, you clean!". I got her message (and yours) and have not yet cleaned a toilet. I do love to do laundry and dust and I hired a Roomba to vacuum.
Cougar makes a lot of very different models. They do it to standardize the location for production simplicity Plus it keeps the tire protected from weathering
Josh how deep is the dinette, from back wall to front edge of cushion? What happens to the corner cushions in sleeping mode? Lastly, shower dimensions?
I don't have measurements to that degree of specificity available to me. It's currently going on midnight and I'm working from home else I'd try to hit it up with the tape measure for you. If you were willing to let our folks work with you, then they can get whatever you need! (Corner Cushions just sit on the floor/counter/wherever in sleeper mode)
Josh you mentioned partially opening the slide...is this something that isn't normally recommended? I don't want to damage anything in my trailer by doing that.

@@soccerdad8374 No slide should be left partially extended for any longer than absolutely required. Could you theoretically sit in it and have a quick bite to eat? Sure. You need to make sure you're moving carefully in it though and it's really not recommended.

Listed hitch weights are *always* unloaded on any of our videos or any MFG spec listings. We cannot predict how someone will load cargo, so there's no way to know a loaded pin weight until you have the RV, load it with your cargo, then scale it.

@@soccerdad8374 So just spoke with the national Cougar product manager. And I'm glad we're having this talk. It seems there's measures of truth BOTH WAYS here... So for years Cougar HT Fifth Wheels have features true queens. They felt it was getting a bit cramped in there, so they VERY recently decided to swap to camp queens to open the bedroom up while still allowing customers to swap back in a true queen at their discretion. But... as soon as they made that decision they started running into mattress shortages. Recently they've been using basically whatever queen bed they can get their hands on to keep the fires burning. They've apparently had to substitutions for SUBSTITUDED beds... and the sizing has varied. Turns out by happenstance we've only received true queens here this year *SO FAR.* Moving forward they will be moving to a camp queen. But in the mean time... sounds like it's best to measure each one as they roll in. 2020 just needs to quit with this stuff man
Likely cost & weight factors. Little details like this are why we carry multiple brands. Jayco for instance will have none of that trunk/felt stuff on the walls/flooring of an Eagle pass-thru

This is a great 5th wheel! The size doesn’t take away from any interior amenities except maybe w/d and a large pantry, neither of which would stop me from wanting this. And at my age this is the only Cougar I can get! 😂

Really nice, if I'm nit picking, two things come to mind, one is the slide closes off the bathroom in travel mode, and two, whisper ducted AC would be a bonus. I think the size and the layout more than outweigh the two things I mentioned, so this one is a winner for those of us who don't want to pull a mobile home size rig around.
We've asked Cougar about whisper ducting. They feel their Coleman Whisper Air is doing pretty much the same thing. I 100% acknowledge those Coleman airs are quieter, but the whisper ducting like on an Eagle is quieter still -- no question.
Still.. the Cougar's air doesn't operate at what I consider an "offensive" or "distracting" volume by any means.

This is exactly the kind of 5th wheel I'm looking for, not too long, or heavy, and lots of room.
My husband and I have been trying to upgrade our camping experience with a new camper for a little over a year now. We have looked at many units. Loved a lot of units but through all we have looked at . Didnt find everything we want in just one unit until we came up on this beautiful smaller 5th wheel Cougar. It surely is a very Hot good looking Cougar .When I say we fell in love with it . We both were so excited because it had everything we had been looking . We need less to say we are purchasing one just like this very one . Saturday we will be taking our new baby home. I love this! I like that the bed is an actual residential size queen bed. My husband is 6’4” so he has to have that length to be comfortable.
Quick note: Shortly after this was recorded they started using a short queen in these to open the room up, but still have the space for a true queen
The backup lights on that 5th wheel are no joke. Those lights {I rewired my boat trailer, converting them to 100% LED} and the ones on my boat trailer are the same lumen rating {I researched it}. My driveway is 350 foot long, but its narrow, so I have to back in from the road. My garage gets lit up by the backup lights from my boat trailer from the road!!!

If and when we upgrade to a 3/4 Ton truck, this will be our unit. Love this unit for a couples RV. I like this bedroom with the queen better than the travel trailer version of this unit with a king. Much easier to walk around and great side table setup. I do wish however that the nice subway tile backsplash wrapped around the entire kitchen area.
I was watching one of your Arctic Wolf 5th wheel videos earlier and I liked how they gave customers the option of whether they wanted a TV from the factory or not. I've got two TVs in my 5th wheel and I hardly ever use them. Would be a nice option to save money and some people want to put their own TV in anyways. Really like these short but still full-time rated RVs. If they could manage to fit a washer/dryer prep in there somewhere, it would be perfect.

This is a really nice looking unit that we may look at in a few years when we are ready to go full time. Wish is had a convection microwave as well as at least a prep for a combo washer/dryer unit in the closet.
Microwave is easy to swap. W/D simply requires more space than is available in here
I agree totally about the convection microwave. I'd leave out the tiny gas oven for extra counter/ cabinet space.

This is high on our list for camp hosting as we do now, but we would need to figure out how to put a live outlet from the inverter in the dinette such that we can power our computers & external monitors, etc. It looks like we might squeeze in 3 BB batteries, if not four, knowing they can stack or be sideways as needed & the solar controller be upgraded such that 3-400 watts also be on the ground should tbe camp host site shading require on the ground augmentation so that 12-volt compressor fridge can hum along. Food for thought as we use our current hosting experiences to design our next setup. How sturdy is the rear ladder, will it hold our 25' telescoping mast holding our 4G high gain yagi WeBoost antenna velcroed to it, etc. Camp Hosts camp in USFS areas far from utilities & in the mountains the fine to nickel sized hail most afternoons demands vent covers with some protection from those elements as well as plumbing stack venturi upgrades to better survive the hail also. But the fishing is stellar the ATV or dude by side to be towed as doubles exciting too, lol. Food for thought, see you in the fall.
Your videos are the best thanks to you we knew what to look at, saw the Grand Design version of this at RV show, loved it, DW likes the larger shower and fireplace in this one, at the top of our list in the near future, just a suggestion but people seem to be wider these days so a comment or measurement on the length and width of the shower would be greatly appreciated, even at the manufacture level.
Josh, you put up this unit weighs (+/-) 8360 lbs. It has no second A/C, no slide toppers, no dual-pane windows yet it weighs 1000 lbs more than the advertised weight (which I thought was an average of multiple units). Surely the optional theater seating and fireplace don’t account for 1000 lbs. Hope you can clarify.

Josh, very impressive for it’s size! My only negative is not specific to this unit- whose idea was it to move the controls on the theater seats to the center? They used to be like a love seat- I think this design is terrible.

Hopefully they do something about medicine cabinet being so low. Bang your head on it trying to brush your teeth or wash you face also the loud squeal where the shower door squeegee scrapes the door. Also need the recirculating hot water to save water and tank space.

I love the factory mounted towel rack in bathroom. It blows my mind how so few manufacturers install one.
A *LOT* of brands actually include them, but ship them loose so you can install them where you please. You'd be similarly surprised to see how many people will claim a towel bar is in the "wrong spot" regardless of where it's installed. Bathrooms/bedrooms are really personal and specific like that it seems
@@JoshtheRVNerd You must be talking about how the towel racks like in this trailer interfere with the cupboard door. Little more thought required.
My first mod will be to change the towel rack to hooks. Keystone is not alone with this, but I do not understand how they figure a single towel rack will suffice. I've seen bunk room units that sleep 10 and still only have a single place to hang a towel. So far, the KZ Durango is the only one I've see that uses hooks.
There is so, so much to like about this unit. As you noted, they Need Struts on all 6 flip up overhead doors. The ones over the dinette and especially over the bed are difficult to reach with structs and even more so when reaching over something needing both hands - one to oven and the other to access. Keystone does so many customer friendly things - why skimp on a few dollars worth of struts?
An other small dislike - OSB instead of plywood under the bed. It looks and feels bad and cheap. It does not matter how much you sand the edge it will never feel good on your hands when opening.

Something I've seen people do is use copper piping tubing around underbed decking to smooth that edge out. A little glue and you're good to go!
The struts are one of those things that irk me too. I could add them. I don't necessarily feel I should need to. But I could still swallow it. Overall wouldn't be deal breakers for me personally
But that's why we carry all these things. They're all "fine tuned" a little differently

2,600 is a fairly nice cargo capacity for full timing. I have a dually, so could get some boxes for the bed to hold tools, and other heavy stuff.
Cougar has gained a little weight and cost the past few years, but they've done things like bulked up on their framing, Cargo capacity, and holding tank capacities as a result. I don't think Cougar gets the credit for a *lot* of what they do

Yep yep! That's how we're ordering ALL of ours -- a few simply slipped thru either before that option went into production or (in the case of THIS RV) -- custom ordered with the standard fridge

One thing nobody seems to mention is if there is storage under the u dinette, I assume there is, I love this RV but they could have put a drawer at either end of the dinette and also there is no where to put your shoes and hang coats.

Jayco actually has phased out the 25.5REOK after the 24RE really overtook it in popularity

In watching this for the second time, I noticed a dump valve at the 19:45 mark. I thought there were only the two valves located at the docking center. Not that having the third valve is a deal breaker, just surprised at seeing one there. Good job on the walk through though. Appreciate the information.
I think it has to do with tank placement resulting from the door-side kitchen and bathroom. Likely tricky to plumb to a shared dump point
The attic vent and it’s cooling capacity for the summer is great. But what about the shoulder season when Maoist would be best to have it closed to retain that extra heat?
Maintaining cabin temps is not usually an issue given the furnace sizes vs. cubic foot of space in these RVs. There's likely a loss there, but in a sense a little heat-bleed also helps keep an over-abundance of snow off the roofing

Main slide on this is a cable system. The upper deck slide is a schwintek
Though this is also aged 2021 footage and systems may change on more current offerings.

A few brands have attempted to build a copy of this, but they keep discontinuing them. Arctic Wolf for instance was going to build it, then just... didn't.
Cougar seems to have a solid grasp on this one
Eagle/Rockwood both make some smaller FWs of their own, but nothing quite like this layout

I have a question, probably because I am not from the states, you usually say you "don't do dealer fees" I have no idea what that means, maybe you can explain that for us, your subscribers outside of United States...
Not all, but *A LOT* of dealerships will advertise an amazing and too-good-to-be-true price tag. Then, when you get there you find out you also have to add hundreds more dollars for things like "Prep" and "readiness" among other things. I've seen $2,000 up to $5,200 of "mandatory add-ons" before.
We just put everything right up front. It means our "price tag" is higher. But our out the door costs are usually lower.

That's always a tough balance. Cougar/Eagle are heavier on the nose than something like an arctic wolf, but usually have extra storage/construction reinforncement up front

That's a very nice small fifth wheel that tries to have camp side windows. Was comparing with Jayco 24RE and looks like this one beats it in that regard quite easily (except Jayco has that new massive pantrytainment). Does that new ceiling AC ducting help at all with the noise compared to Jayco's quiet system? Thanks for sharing Josh.
Cougar uses a Coleman Quiet A/C that runs quieter vs something like a Dometic
Eagle HT uses both a Coleman Quiet A/C and a Whisper Ducting system. It will run more quietly
I don't know if these little swirlygig air ducts will reduce noise though

I LOVE this model! It’s just my husband and I and one dog and we are retired. We just bought a 2021 F150, 5.5’ bed, with 3.5L eco boost V6 and maximum towing package. On the door it states 1851# cargo capacity but the manual states 2300# cargo capacity. Can our truck pull this? Also, love your videos!
You may want to run your vin thru a Ford service center for verification
Josh- what thickness and insulation does this model have in the side walls, rear wall (u mentioned an improvement there but didn’t say what), the front cap and roof? Also besides the enclosed underbelly and radiant reflective layer is there any other insulation in the flooring?
They added a 1" laminated wall atop the previous structure of the RV.
Walls of anything in this class are pretty much all an R7 or R9 if 2" thick
Laminated walls cannot have higher R-Value artificially since their R-Value is based exclusively on thickness.
The floor construction itself is independently insulated apart from the radiant barrier and belly enclosure
Again - that's normal in the industry

Cable slides can be partially opened & closed w/o issue. Schwintek slides are one of the only types that should really be opened/closed fully.

Really always has been. It's just becoming more obvious the past few seasons I think. There's a very logical progression from Cougar HT to Cougar to Montana HC to Montana I think
@@JoshtheRVNerd If were to buy a fifth wheel, it'd probably be the half ton version of either the Cougar or the Eagle, both have nice couples camping floorplans in coaches sized right for me.
Most half tons only have about a 1400 ib payload would this be adequate to pull this fifth wheel? You also have to take in account cargo and passenger weight. Probably still need a 3/4 or 1 ton truck to play it safe.
No. That's not typically enough to handle a FW -- this one included.
These little cougars are great for gas 3/4 tons and larger.

Yeah I only completed about half of the comparisons I wanted to, but we haven’t been able to keep enough campers on hand where I can jump between them side-by-side. Once the weather warms back up I’ll continue with the series of comparisons

Answer here kind of depends on how you plan to use the RV.
For shorter distances & more modest terrain a PROPERLY EQUIPPED 1/2 ton (specifically with a *heavy payload package*) could get the job done
But if you had any significant amount of traveling possible I would start with a 3/4 ton

I have a 2021 Ram 1500 with the 5.7l eTorque motor and the 3.92 axle. It’s the Crew Cab with 5.7’ box. Specs say 2300 lbs max payload and 11,600 towing capacity. Can I tow this rig safely?

In high school I played pretty much anything brass. After that I taught myself enough guitar to make some noise, but never got really good LOL

@@musicalatv Sounds like you're doing just fine then! There's no rules on how they have to play. Playing orchestral music was always very rigid and structured. I always wanted guitar to just be loose and free. I taught myself enough to have fun and never made it feel like work.

I would like to use the Springdale as a trade in for this new beautiful Cougar but it is in Annapolis, MO and it was towed to that spot for me and will need to be towed to you to do the trade for the new one which will then need to be towed to its new home... LOL did you follow that? The distance from Haylett to Annapolis is like 533 miles but ONLY 8 and a half hours. ;)

Being lightweight and "stubby", would you consider this 1/2 ton friendly?
PROPER half-tons? Yes.
The biggest hiccup here for a half ton is not the dry weight -- most tow package half tons can handle that no sweat.
It's the hitch weight on this vs. the payload rating of a half-ton.
MOST half tons, even with tow packages, do not have the proper payload ratings for even a small FW like this.

Love the driftwood decor look. Does this unit come with the option for a king bed? If so, could the large dinette be swapped out for 2 Heat/massage theatre chairs (and maybe install 1 end table between the 2 chairs or small countertop cabinets (w/wall plugins and USB ports on both) on either side of the chairs fastened to the walls) and could we put a table and chair set where the existing theatre sofa is located? That faucet in the bathroom sink is off to the right, instead of centered over the sink. I wonder if that orientation feels weird to use, or if it's no big deal?
It *LOOKS* weird, but I can say from personal experience it has zero effect on the actual use. It's a smart use of space really
@@JoshtheRVNerd I disagree :) The extra space would be better to have behind the sink. That said I understand why they did it this way and I would rather have the drawers then better situated counter storage.
The part of the bathroom that baffles me is the open storage area at the bottom of the linen closet next to the toilet. I don't know of any male that has perfect aim 100% of the time and I wish they would have done this differently. The best solution would have been to put the linen on the other end of the shower allow linen access to the top half. Then the bottom half would provide space for 2-3 shallow drawers in the bedroom.
@@soccerdad8374 There are different benefits to different features and methods of course. Putting the faucet behind the sink means the entire cabinet and counter would need to be made deeper -- tricky in a small confined space like that where every inch matters.
I can also advise most RV builders expect men to sit upon the toilet for "splash control," though obviously each user's method may vary lol :)

Cougar makes a lot of very different models. They do it to standardize the location for production simplicity
Plus it keeps the tire protected from weathering
Josh how deep is the dinette, from back wall to front edge of cushion? What happens to the corner cushions in sleeping mode? Lastly, shower dimensions?
I don't have measurements to that degree of specificity available to me. It's currently going on midnight and I'm working from home else I'd try to hit it up with the tape measure for you. If you were willing to let our folks work with you, then they can get whatever you need!
(Corner Cushions just sit on the floor/counter/wherever in sleeper mode)

@@soccerdad8374 No slide should be left partially extended for any longer than absolutely required. Could you theoretically sit in it and have a quick bite to eat? Sure. You need to make sure you're moving carefully in it though and it's really not recommended.

Our supply of trucks is currently lower than I like to see. We usually keep 2 or 3 half, 3/4, and one tons on hand with a dually sprinkled in here or there.

Is the 1430 Hitch weight dry or loaded? I have an F250 with 1900 payload.
Listed hitch weights are *always* unloaded on any of our videos or any MFG spec listings. We cannot predict how someone will load cargo, so there's no way to know a loaded pin weight until you have the RV, load it with your cargo, then scale it.

I went back to my emails from the DISTRICT SALES MANAGER COUGAR DIVISION dated October 2020 and he specifically states that the queen beds are 60 x 74. I know you are good with the facts, but I would think the rep from Keystone is also. Could you double check this for me?

@@soccerdad8374 So just spoke with the national Cougar product manager. And I'm glad we're having this talk. It seems there's measures of truth BOTH WAYS here...
So for years Cougar HT Fifth Wheels have features true queens. They felt it was getting a bit cramped in there, so they VERY recently decided to swap to camp queens to open the bedroom up while still allowing customers to swap back in a true queen at their discretion.
But... as soon as they made that decision they started running into mattress shortages. Recently they've been using basically whatever queen bed they can get their hands on to keep the fires burning. They've apparently had to substitutions for SUBSTITUDED beds... and the sizing has varied.
Turns out by happenstance we've only received true queens here this year *SO FAR.*
Moving forward they will be moving to a camp queen. But in the mean time... sounds like it's best to measure each one as they roll in.

Yes, they do. They're actually hinged just inside the door. The flip up into the door way and lock in place standing upright for transit.
