I am having an old tree that has split removed right now. It’s so sad. And it changes the years completely. It seems I have worked so hard this year to put new things in, and now I must rethink my beds. But, nothing lives forever and a gardener’s opportunity is someone else’s challenge. I know you and Aaron will love what you decide to do. Praise God no one was hurt. That’s really all that matters.

Something occurred to me, while watching the tree cleanup video tonight, that I didn't really notice when watching the garden tour video this morning. The change to the landscape was bad; but, could've been much worse. That's the truth! However, the change to the "skyscape," tho, gave me a chill & wet eyes.
Thankfully, none of you were physically hurt. Praise God! 🙏💜

Arborists chips make the BEST mulch. Apply directly to the garden beds 4-6" deep. Suppress weeds (or they are at least easier to pull), moderate soil temperature in all seasons, hold moisture, provide habitat for slug & snail egg eating bug life, more bug life will bring more and varied bird population, and it costs nothing.
Garden with nature in mind and give the habitat time to balance. It's science and it works.

I respect that you took your tree down but just so people know some trees can just be topped and will be fine. We have 2 poplars in our backyard. They can get very tall, but we had about the top third of them cut off. Now we just go out every fall and trim of the boughs that are getting too big or too high. They just fill out beautifully every year and are great shade threes.
