My dog goes to Tufts tomorrow to see if he is a candidate for their new clinical study, amputation with an immune gel inserted in the amputation site before closing the site followed by 4 chemo sessions. I am nervous shout the amputation but after watching your videos I feel greatly relieved. I know he has so much spirit and life and will left in him. Even with the pain just starting he still wants to play ball. You made me hopeful. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing Doc! Very helpful information, we are fighting this through with our lab (amputation + chemo) post a year and a half and no sign of metastasis
Hi everyone, my 10 year old male Akita Inu was found with Osteosaroma in his front left foor. We amputated and the doctors did already the first chemotherapy to my dog....but i am worried about my health living together with a dog during his chemo. My Vet never warned me about taking precautions and measures for my personal health... Thank god the dog neither vomited nor had diarrhea and i always bag his poop But he should tell me to wear gloves too and most important he should tell me to avoid kissing him near his mouth and muzzle and not let him lick me !!! Now i am trying to remember the first three days after his first chemo, what kind of contact i had with my dog and i am freaking out because i learned that the chemo could be cancerous for the people .....I let him lick my leg a little and i kissed him on the muzzle near the mouth right after his first chemo when the Vet brought him to me.... Could any suspicious contact that i had with my dog with his saliva and poop be fatal for my health ?
My 1 year old golden retriever has osteosarcoma, we amputated and did chemo but sadly it has already metastasized to his lungs. The frustrating thing is, I have asked my vets repeatedly about this immunotherapy vaccine and they all say they've "never heard of it" or "that's not something you can use for osteosarcoma." But I know that it is! It's so sad that they won't let him have it
I wish you would have addressed the treatments for dogs that are older. My Akita is over 12 years and deciding what is best for her age is quite difficult at this point. This breed seems to be prone to developing back end issues, so I don’t think amputation would be good in the long term. We are treating her pain, which is keeping her very happy so far. Tough decisions😢
Thank you so much for your videos! We just got my labs diagnosis two days ago. I feel I have some good questions to ask our vet and an feeling more optimistic! ❤️
Amputation 4-5 months Amputation + Chemo (carpoplatin) (2 weeks after surgery) 1 year 10-12 months 15 percent 2 years Immunotherapy (osterocoma vaccine) go to oncologist 78 one year 67 2 year
My vet thinks my 9 year old German/Husky has osteosarcoma but is not 100% sure nor does he know what stage it is, there were 4 X-Rays taken because he wants to compare the left side to the right one. I was wondering I'm in the north Dallas area and was wondering if you have any specialist you recommend to go to. As far as I can see we do have a VCA here but was wondering if there're more options. Im fully committed to help my dog to fight this but also at the same time I need the trust of a good vet so there's no time wasted. Thanks in the advance!
Would you recommend chemotherapy for a dog with chondrosarcoma? He have his leg amputated results of histopathology are most likely chondrosarcoma with small chance of chondroblasto osteosarcoma, unfortunately they are not able to see a grade of the tumor that's why they recommended carboplatin 4 sessions. Thank you very much for answer! I love your vlog!
My Akita has bone cancer now for a yr with only pain meds the entire time, it has now spread to the lungs as of 3 months ago, is chemo still an option with amputation . She is still pushing air very well and blood work is still perfect as of last week if July 2022
Mine had osteosarcoma of the spine. Fast growing and very painful but our boy never showed us any hostility. He never made a mess even when we had him in a special harness to help him walk. From initial diagnosis to euthanasia was two weeks. We tried it all acupuncture ,pain meds ,CBC oil ,and still the spiny growth increased. We were fearful it would eat through the spine and break the bone which our vet agreed was the prognosis if allowed to grow.So with heavy hearts we made the decision to allow Kelly freedom from the pain. Best dog ever and we only got nine years with him.
My dog was diagnosed with osteosarcoma about 3 weeks ago and we have already amputated and started chemo today. He just only turned 5 and I want to do whatever will help him the most! No signs of spreading to the lungs yet but hopefully we can keep it that way! I want to try immunotherapy for him! Any other recommendations?
good luck wish you best and for your dog too! My dog had osteosarcoma for 8 months WITHOUT any treatment and survived that much before 1 week ago when he was a baloon swallen by cancer and he couldn't even move, he was destroyed by the cancer....we telled him goodbye and vet gave him injection to end his pain... but he held out 8 months holy shit without any amputation, or radio, or chemio... nothing... he survived I think a lot considering he didn't receive any help? He was 12 years old so he was pretty old
question! I have scoured the internet and cant really find an answer. Cancer on pelvis. With treatment as removal of half of pelvis with entire leg + chemo. How does this surgery effect the dogs "movement" and function/daily life? is it still possible to me decently mobile? and with Pelvis being the main spot, is that more likely to be metastatic to other areas? survival rate for pelvic bone tumors?
My 9 year old poodle just got diagnosed with a tumor on his pelvic region. It has already spread to his lungs. About two weeks ago he started limping and hasn’t stopped :( the vet gave us no options but I feel like there has to be one! How was your buddy?
My 12 year old Old English Bulldog was just diagnosed with Osteosarcoma of prox humerus after he's been not wanting to much weight on it for the past week or so. They are going to start with Caprofen (already on) and Gabapentin. I have been reading up on benefits of biophosphonate infusion. Can anyone give me recommendations on if this would be worth pursuing as well? Given his age we will not be doing chemo/radiation. Thanks for any help!
can you please talk to us about tumors in the mouth - we found a tumor in my dog's mouth on Feb 11 by the time we saw an oncologist and got an appointment for surgery the tumor had grown significantly, to the point that clean margins were not possible, by March 10 ~ the prognosis was poor but CT scan showed no evidence of metastasis. My dog was an 11 year old BullMastiff , i still opted for the surgery but the surgeon said its a big procedure and due to the mass being so big most of the lower right jaw must be taken. so then we decided to euthanize my pup. could i have done something different given that he was a bullmastiff and already 11
Our Dr thinks our 7 year old shepherd mix has bone cancer in her leg. They done a blastomyces test on her so we are waiting to see if it's a fungal infection. He said all her blood work is good and good health in general. 2 weeks ago she had a slight limp and then 2 days ago she couldnt walk and swelling in the wrist part of her foot. We are still shocked and really dont know what to do. We want to do all we can to have more time with her and so the kids can as well.
@@DrSueCancerVet Thank you. The test was negative. So they are saying cancer and for us to just do pain management. I've been looking at her xrays and I have a feeling it could be a bone cyst which I said something to the Dr and she said no because repo is 7. Repos xrays look exactly like an xray of a bone cyst and look nothing like the ones of bone cancer. I'm no dr tho but I just have that feeling. She was diagnosed Nov. 21 and as of today she is walking on it still with a slight limp tho and acting like herself. She is on gabapentin and we just started CBD oil. Is there a way I could send u Repos xray and get your opinion?
@@MsSirAndy She was diagnosed in November with Bone Cancer and the vet treated her with Gabapentin and we done CBD oil but unfortunately the meds quit working in February and she was in so much pain so we made the hardest decision and put her down.

Great discussion of treatment options.
I so appreciate your support. Thanks for watching!
That new immunotherapy sounds cool. I wish it was available now for all dogs.
It is. I am excited for the clinical trial to finish and it will hopefully show to be beneficial and then available to more dogs!
