I totally second the cover of Hozier's "Take Me To Church" - nuance, power and emotion. But I suggest you react to the official one with Scott Bradley. ua-cam.com/video/9C0xGB73Uuc/v-deo.html
Thanks for taking this one on Travis. Morgan is a class Act, now with a substantial catalogue of original material, and covers, since her days touring with PMJ and Haley. She even ran a project featuring female vocalists for songs from Jesus Christ Superstar, and sings through the entire Beatle's White Album in one sitting. Some personal favourite covers to listen to are "Dear Prudence" (duet with Haley), "I'm Not the Only One", "Take Me To Church", and "Sledgehammer". And _any_ of her Aretha Franklin covers.
As mentioned earlier she is Juliard trained and got her start in musical theater (Godspell). She’s one of three vocalists in PMJs version of All About That Bass. She also teams up with Haley for a beautiful version of the Beatle’s “Dear Prudence”.
Morgan does an acoustics version of Dear Prudence by The Beatles. She sings with her fellow PMJ genius Haley Reinhardt accompanied by Morgan's husband on the guitar. It's out of this world. Keep up the awesome reactions.
Several people have mentioned "Take Me to Church". For something a little faster in tempo, she does "Maps", and I believe she is the singer on "Barbie Girl" (it's been a long time since I've seen that one). Don't neglect the fellas of PMJ. "Not the Only One " and "Stacy's Mom" featuring Casey Abrams are fun, and since it's spooky season, "Thriller" featuring Wayne Brady is worth checking out.
PMJ is the creation of Scott Bradlee, pianist/arranger His idea is to take current hits and place them into another era Morgan did Broadway - Motown the Musical Her casual duets are fantastic - with Haley and Marc Broussard PLEASE PLEASE react to her and Marc singing Aretha's "Do right woman , Do right man" BOTH KILL IT!!!!
Morgan is a completely under apperciated ( not to PMJ fans ) vocal dynamo !! She spent 10 yrs pounding the streets of NYC trying to make an impression on Broadway, it didn't work out. She's been doing her own thing ever since.😎👌
I highly recommend her doing Maps by Maroon 5 with PMJ . There is also a great version of the Beatles Dear Prudence with her and Haley sitting on a couch .
Great reaction, Travis! As others have mentioned, PMJ's All About the Bass is awesome, and has both Morgan and Haley, as well as Ariana Savalas and Casey Abrams - super fun! Other great ones are PMJ with Morgan doing Maps, and PMJ with Haley doing - well, anything with Haley, really! Another amazing singer you might want to check out is Eva Cassidy. The live recording of her singing Over the Rainbow is both beautiful and heartbreaking. Thanks for the great reactions!
Anything she does is great, as usual I'm a day late so you may not see this, but in case you do, try Morgan along with Marc Broussard singing Aretha's "Do Right Woman" that is a side of her in a much different light. I loved the the casual setting & just a guitar for backing the vocals of two of my favorite artists, hope you enjoy also.
Love PMJ & Morgan! You can go down a rabbit hole with them as easily as PTX. Proceed with caution!!!! (As we all shove you over the edge and down the hole!)
Morgan’s ”Take me to Church” live with PMJ, the audience reacting is precious. ua-cam.com/video/bwHVmgJXdoo/v-deo.html Morgan’s smile lights up the whole concert hall ❤️
Nice reaction.. And congratulations (as it is known) to you first Morgasm. All the comments have laid out your Morgan James journey and i look forward to see where it takes you!!
You did it! Thank you thank you thank you! I have been requesting that you react to Morgan James since you started doing reactions. I know you’re going to love it, and I can’t wait to see this. Thank you! P.s. after seeing your reaction: I admit to yelling “I told you so!“ at the screen while watching you react. So glad you like her voice as much as I thought you would! I suggest that you watch her “ain’t no way“ and the duet she did of “ do right woman“. And everything everyone else suggests as well. Also, I think you would love Shoshana Bean singing “she used to be mine“, and Chris Stapleton singing “sometimes I cry“ live at the Bing lounge.
eat your heart out Aerosmith and Steven Tyler........I'd sign over the rights to this tune to PMJ and Morgan right now..........girl knows how to make an entrance, huh?....hat's off to the band.....the cellist's solo was FIRE !
Whenever I see reactions like this, there is never any mention of the real star of these productions. That would be Scott Bradlee(pianist/arranger), who is the mastermind behind PMJ. He's never produced a bad cover; some of which I think are much better than the originals.
Allana Myles sang "Black Velvet". What a freaking cool reference! And yes, I'll be exploring more Morgan James now. Thanks for the tip. I think you might really like the Canadian Moroccan singer, Faouzia. I recommend starting with "Tears of Gold (Stripped)". This is seriously up your alley.
I've been obsessed with reactions to this song because it moved me SO MUCH when I heard it the first time. My face / brain was the same as yours throughout... "WHAT AM I HEARING? THIS IS.... WHAT AM I HEARING? I think that for a cover this is better than the original beause it reinvents the song in a different way while still respecting and presenting the full power of the song. The only other song that I had thoughts like "Can this be better than the original?" is the Pentatonix / Lindsey Sterling version of Radioactive." I would LOVE to see your reaction to that.
Ready for a Treat??!! There it is. She and Haley are my 2 favorites with PMJ. She has a huge catalog on her channel. Broadway (Godspell) "Take me to Church" but do the official video with Scott Bradlee and PMJ. Great reaction, it's how I reacted 1st time also OL.
As mentioned by some others below highly recommend Morgan with Haley Rhinehart on Dear Prudence, her solo take (w/PMJ’s Scott Bradlee) on Take me to Church, and also her duet with Marc Broussard on Do Right Woman
Yes, Morgan & Hayley together is a thing: PMJ All About That Bass and just them and Morgan's husband at home, Beatles' Dear Prudence. Ya gotta look at both! :)
Morgan James is one of the many talented musicians PMJ has in their catalogue. I swear her body has to be half lungs. Another one of their singers that gets ignored is Miche Braden. Check out her doing Old Town Road or Sweet Child O Mine.
As you wander through the wonderful and somewhat bizarre world of PMJ, you will find another familiar moniker - that of one Mario Jose who, outside the PMJ worked on two different Pulse tributes "Rise" and one that he led, a foursome with three of his friends singing "You Will Be Found" from Dear Evan Hansen. Isn't it wonderful how these things start coming around from the other side and reconnecting somewhere else altogether?
Haley Reinhart News: as of last night, she's got a really unusual new video out on her channel ("Off the Ground"). Its VERY different from her PMJ stuff, so might be an interesting viewing for you. She's coming up in the world, because the video was directed by Robert Rodriguez. As in the guy who did videos for Lady Gaga and Demi Lovato, as well as movies like Spy Kids, Sin City, etc.
Juilliard trained as an Opera singer. Did Broadway instead. Shifted from Broadway to Pop/Jazz type singing. Here's an interesting way to get up to speed. During the initial Pandemic lockdown last year she sat at home and put out multiple singing performances every day for over a month (it's almost 100 performances). Completely unedited aurally. In other words, stripped-back versions, live recorded (they probably did multiple takes and used the best one). Just go to her channel, look at the videos from that period, and pick your favorite songs. They'll ALL be good. 100 or so live songs, and every last one good. You'll know its the right spot in her backlog of videos, because you'll suddenly see a whole massive area of thumbnails of her singing next to one guy (her husband) with a guitar.
Thank you for this! Morgan is, imo, just waaaaay underrated. If you would, check out her duet with Eric Broussard (also, vastly underrated) of Do Right Woman. ua-cam.com/video/w_thmX_wcHs/v-deo.html

Morgan James is living proof the US music industry sucks. She should be a superstar, hands down. Check out the MPJ/MJ cover of "Maps". Stunning! She's a Julliard trained vocalist.
I've been watching a lot of reactions to this song lately, mostly watching for reactions to that first long note she does. Yours at 4:50 is the best I've seen. When you realize the note just keeps going and going.
Really enjoying your reactions! Especially to PMJ! Morgan has such easy power, just the voice of an angel. She is a star!
Morgan has a lot of music she recorded during the pandemic. She has such a soulful voice.
Morgan is Juliard trained and calls her style classical-pop.
