Great vid mate. I do lots of content on car leasing deals, buying used cars, and car finance but recently did a video on buying a Cat S or Cat N. For me, I'd definitely consider a Cat N after doing a lot of checks etc but I just don't fancy Cat S. There are a ton of them on the market at very low prices but something that has had structural damage just raises too many question marks for me.
Good video. Totally put me off buying a car I was looking at so cheers 🤣. I have zero time available to try and fix a family wagon.
Good video, I bought a repaired cat N. 320 xdrive, it was from a reputable independent BMW specialist. It had a new engine rebuild turbo, flywheel and the dreaded cam chain. Obviously it will be worth less when I sell it on, but I plan to keep it for the long haul. Main thing is if it's been repaired make sure it's from a rated garage. My experience was positive.

What about cat n cats that are back on road running and being sold? I checked insurance for a cat n 1 series and insurance was very cheap
Insurance written off a van I bumped into. And I've seen vans on the road in worse condition :)
In reality all it needed was a new wheel and slide door.

True, but lots of people not even reporting accidents to the insurer because the premium sky rockets after, even if its non fault. Also you most likely loose your NCB too. Insurance companies in the UK are more mafia than mafia it self... Once someone reversed in to my parked car, without me being there. I reported it without making a claim, I fixed the dent from my own pocket because it was cheaper than the 250 excess. They put up my premium from 660 to 3200. And they couldn't explain why. Also I still had my NCB from them... MAFIA
@@Mark__A Now, I had my NCB insured. So I did not loose it. But yes, Insurance did go up afterwards.
And yes, I've heard about cases where person's premium went up despite them being passenger in a parked car that someone crashed into.
Bearing in mind 'approved repairer' rates, the damage as described should align with the 'market value' of the car. Q: does cat N mean that in the event of another accident, only the other party will be covered by your insurance?
I’m looking at cat n or s Jaguar Xe from private seller, is it worth me booking it in at a garage if the seller is okay with that and paying them to check it over before I buy?
Hi I want buy a car I really like at a good price and the hpi check seems all good but it does look like it's had some spray work done? The private owner says it's not been in any smashes that he knows off and he's owned it for the past 4 years. But it obviously has had some spray work🤷 what do you think I should do I really like it and it's for my wife's 50th in 2 weeks, the spray paint may be to cover rust or something more untoward. please advise before I part with 4000. Thanks
You should use a hpi check that go through salvage history to make sure that the car hasn’t gone through auctions unrecorded because some insurance companies don’t write off cars until they are sold to make maximum profits even if they are damaged
Also alot of insurance companies don't insure insurance right offs and the ones that do will charge alot more to insure,many hundreds more.make sure the repairs have been done by a reperable company and keep the car for a long time as they will be very hard to sell on.
When looking at insurance quotes online for a Cat N car, does the quote give you a Cat N price for insurance?
Or do you have to phone the insurance company and tell them it is Cat N before they quote you?
They will know by checking your number plate.and quote for Cat N will be more expensive too.
Short answer: No, insurance is higher and resell value is lower. Also 90%-of the peoples not interested to buy it. Damage repair standards, quality, how safe is after the accident? There is a chance the 4 wheel geometry never will be factory spec. Like uneven tyre wear you not going to be able to realize during a test drive even if its very badly doing it.
Also you can still test my S80 V8 some point :D
Great points! You do have to be rather... Bold... To buy one, and if you do you will need to be incredibly thorough.
