The word "fuck" is the most versatile word in the English language. Verb, noun, adjective. It lends itself to any and every situation. Fucking awesome.
And adverb!
That little Irish "are you sure you want to lend us money?" is gold.
Pot of gold.
The thing with Al, he is intelligent and he wont dumb down. He wants to do 10 minutes of his act in German and trusts his audiences to get it. It's brave but works.
Yes! Not just pretend or joke German, but actual German and it just works!
I saw one of his small village shows that he does to test his jokes and there was clearly a fair amount he figured out would go over most peoples heads so he needed to change it or remove the joke because only like 10% of the 80 or so people in the room would laugh
Dude, as an Englishman, he did half a bit of pure English jokes, in German. the fact that any of you understood them at all is impressive. It's Coming Home came out 30 years ago.
The thing about the dog with the name you cannot say (the black labrador), is there was a very famous British war film (1955) with a black labrador with that name. The film was called The Dam Busters - it's about the RAF raids against German dams with "bouncing bombs". When they remade the film they renamed the dog "digger". But when I was a child the movie was played without cuts or censorship.
As a kid , at the time of that films release. I was gifted a box of paints, made by a famous make of that tme, which included a shade of Brown, called '''igger.
What makes this special is the fact that Al Murray speaks German very well. So what ever he is saying , could well be translated and a funny joke will emerge from it. I was never a fan of Al growing up. But that’s only because I didn’t get him. He was way ahead of his time personally
Yes he clearly does have a good command of German!
German and English are quite similar, English being a germanic language, there's a few changes that make it different. S and Z for Instance. Germans use z'ds where English would use an S
@@davidrowan3853 v and w too.
He says in German:
And how about that World Cup? We are the champions of the world!
England out in the first round! Out in the first round!
🎶you’re sh*t and you know you are. You’re sh*t and you know you are…🎶
🎶it’s coming home it’s coming home. Football’s coming home🎶
And in the final we had Argentina and we gave them a good assf*cking - very nice assf*cking.
And how about Brazil? 7-1! That’s unbelievable! That was also a nice assf*cking! Goodbye Pele!
Ciao ciao ciao..Germany, Germany, the best at football
@@goldboy150 😆😆😆 thank you for translating that. I heard certain words but had no idea what was being said otherwise. When I watch it back now I’ll be cracking up even more haha. Thanks again mate :)
Watching you guys react comes only second to Al Murray himself. I'm just glad to see his humour translates across the water.
Al Murray is also a serious historian, a clever man.
I think New Yorkers along with Aussies get our sense of humour more than anyone else. If people from the West coast of America watched some of these clips it would go right over their heads.
New Yorkers don't get our sarcasm
They take things too literally
Aussie here
Pom living in Oz...we much prefer English comedy. We just have to pretend to not always get it or our "special" kiwi cousins start spinning plates and rocking 😂😂😂😂😂
@tamamalosi just don't get us started on Pavlova and it'll be sweet! Lol
Why not? Every Kiwi knows Pavlova comes from the Dutch, not the Russians.@@1lighthorse
This one and "All jobs are terrible" are my favourites.
Yeah I think he did New york proud there lol! Had a good laugh watchin that one with y'all!
Gotta say as I Brit, New York is so true....I only asked where a certain Deli was & got the full session off a office guy on his lunch break...More Fu....than was ever possible 🤣🤣🤣
As a Brit, I/we're familiar with Al Murray's 'outrageous' persona, which may be mistaken at times from those outside our shores. I was pissing myself with laughter all the more by seeing how much fun our New York boys found in the mockery of New Yorkers, an d that is the clue to where his character is at aiming shots at our own selves in the UK. He's many things himself to the least a very skilled drummer. Humour keeps us sane, if not sane, then happy.
I was laughing so much on the NY part, the polo I was sucking flew across the room.
"Fuck you a thoid time" had me dying 😂
He's one of my favourite comedians. Being here in the UK I saw this a while back. When I saw you guys were watching it I knew it was going to be good. I couldn't wait for him to get to the NY part. 😁
listen, I bin to NY. The people all around the bars are great. Real characters. The toughness is a survival instinct. Tough on the outside - beautiful on the inside. I love it there.
Kills me every time when he dubs the word “master” 😆
The bit where he’s talking to the Germans is a parody of old British World War 2 movies, particularly The Dam Busters (1955) where Germans are all very shouty and sound like Adolf Hitler. The Messerschmitt Bf109 was one of the more prolific fighter plane models in the Luftwaffe during the earlier part of WW2, especially around the time of the Battle of Britain. A lot of the other names of the Germans he mentions later in the sketch are also references to German WW2 planes, military equipment, etc.
Whilst I believe that Al Murray is, himself, pretty-much fluent in German, what he's speaking here is actually what we'd call "Dinglish", which is a comedic, semi-nonsense mix of mostly German and some English, aimed at an English audience, and so most of the grammar and phrasing is English, just using predominantly German vocabulary (much of which he gets pretty spot-on here).
I have watched Al Murray for years but this reaction video is superb! I’m crying laughing at your reactions.
At 20:26, Mr Gladstone was Prime Minister of the UK from 1868 until 1894 (non-consecutive terms). The Corn Laws were repealed in 1846 & The Crimean War was fought between 1868 and 1894!
🤣😂your reaction had me crying! ive seen this Al before but just love your reactions so just had to watch again...
his character is the pub landlord (bar owner) not a schoolteacher although his knowledge of history and geography reflects that he studied at oxford university
I'll be honest, I've always wanted to see New Yorkers react to this sketch and it's exactly as I thought. You love it! Especially the bit where he actually gets to New York (friendliest city in the world)
I love the way Murray said Japan 🇯🇵 are calling and you all went ow noooooo! Lmao 🤣
I'm glad you all just take it. And you get it for what it is. Am becoming a big fan of you channel.
Lol, couldn't wait for your reaction to the New York part 😂 so funny.
Merry Christmas to you guys from England 🌲🏴
Al Murray is an extremely intelligent man. He has a modern history degree from Oxford.
Ha, I thought I didn't like Al Murray but he is brilliant and very clever! Genius accents! I really must check out some more of his stuff!
The best joke is that Middle England don't know the joke is on them, for decades. And his understanding of City brokers is on point.
AM is one of our treasurers and the Pub Landlord stand-up priceless.
It's funny, but there is an underlying truth to it. Best kind of comedy really.
Top GEEZZZAA AL Murray...a highly interlectual aspect of comedy...Human nature....and its insane madness...and he grabs it and throws it back at us.....🇯🇲🇬🇧💯💯
Just a genius
Thank you for reacting to this fellas 🥰
I now know "You're shit and you know you are" is in German just from the tune he is singing.
Aaaaand after many (too many) years working in the City... yeah. Nailed it.
All of Al Murray is fantastic but this the best one because he puts so much effort into and gets the characters so large and interesting. I liked the whole plan of sketch and everything fitted so well. The German/British banter is deliberate and is often used in his act. The German is perfect and he makes it work in the act which takes real skill. He has a PHD in History and used to entertain his fellow students at university and built his act up from there.
Great video Fellas, Brit here, Al Murray a UK National Treasure! The black Labrador dog reference was from the 60s war film 'Battle Of Britain'. Its played everyday on some channel ;) A pilot's dog waits for his return which does not happen, the dog is called N888ga, its dubbed out these days. The NYC thing of being aggressive on the outside, soft in the centre most mirrors the London - Northerners (Manchester/Liverpool/Yorkshire/Scotland) relationship in the UK, This is a little comedy sketch: ua-cam.com/video/PT0ay9u1gg4/v-deo.html bit of a giggle ;)
Close but no cigar, the film is the Dambusters and that's Guy Gibson's dog.
The dog's name has been changed and dubbed into "Digger" And yes it was in the film Dambusters.
Guy Gibson's dog was a black Labrador called the letter after the letter M word. It got run over on the day they went out on their mission to smash up the German dams.
Actually the dog's owner did return but he was killed in a later bombing raid.
The dog was run over and killed just outside the airfield gate before his master returned from the dambusters mission.
The anticipation for the new york bit was unbearable lol
That's what i waited for class!!
It could have gone in a very different direction there
Not going out with lee mack is another great series to watch
I go see Al every year on each new tour here in the UK ..he plays loads of local venues which is really cool...also has some other strings to his bow with WW2 history podcasts and drumming
Thank you for your kind words about Al. We do like him and he researches his comedy very well.
Before it gets to the part.....I can't wait to see your reaction to New York after seeing you loosing it at Germany and Tokyo 🤣 this is gonna be a banger hahaha
Hahaha fuckin brilliant I knew you'd loose it, I couldn't of picked a better word, literally banging your hands on the table. I'm pissing myself laughing 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Glad you enjoyed the NY bit 😂
This is the Pub Landlord, a character created by Al Murray. Half the joke is he’s poking fun at British stereotypes of how the Brits see different nationalities. There are some great videos on UA-cam of Al Murray himself, he’s a passionate historian with a specialism for WW2, hence why he can speak German.
😂😂Nice one boys, great show👏👏🔥✌️
Absolutely brilliant set 👏
Brilliant lads - great f'kin vlog - love you New Yorkers by the way!!
Al Murray is fucking amazing man. I was dying with the other impressions, but New York ended my whole existence 😂😂
Great! You've finally watched it. Thought you would enjoy it. 😄👍
Aha! I have been waiting for you guys to react to this one. Great reaction!
Please do al murray what he'll is like in diffrent countries his accents in this are perfect
Sooo knew you were gonna lose your shit at the New York bit guys
I can only imagine how long a new yorker would last talking like that in London. I'd give him 10 minutes before he ends up in a dumpster. 😂😂😂
Do you think New York City is full of softies who will just get thrown in the dumpster ?
@@officialenri do you think Londoners will put up with abuse?
@@coot1925 I didn’t think ya were soft. Abuse???
@@officialenri
Looking at a photo of Hillary Clinton would make me soft. 😂
Your head is in a movie.
I was just waiting for the moment he got to New York :P quality :P
Al Murray has a degree in history and the German language which just makes it perfect. The 'pub landlord' is a piss take lads. He commentates on WW2 stuff lol.
Great to see your reaction Al Murray is a legend
You guys really need to react to Garfunkel and Oates - the loophole ….. knowing your taste in music this if perfect for you and is currently very popular to react to. Look forward to your reactions.
@4:20 prices get set by the ongoing purchase and sale of a stock or other financial product. A buyer will make an offer for a block of stock at a certain price, and a seller will either take or refuse it. Opposite thing for the sellers. Those prices get ground into the price published by Dow Jones, etc. in real time.
New F~ckin' York. 😎
Thanks guys! Fantastic!
New York sounds just like Manchester when it comes to language.
this is brilliant!
Have you done "Al Murray explains the Euro crisis?" - well funny!
new york mentality is closest to British than anywhere else in states lol
Also, Boston, Philly, Baltimore
Al Murray "what hell is like in different countries" and "world war champions"
Top lads. You get it. Much love from UK boys
great review but is that all New Yak swearing ? ha ha
I was in Leeds (UK) with my Brooklyn business partner - when he was informed that any mining village in Yorkshire would knock "seven shades of shit" out of an NFL team without pads - he pondered it, then went to the "rest room"
Stocks prices are a ticker. There will always be people wanting to buy or sell stocks for any given cent prices either side of the current prices. When you buy or sell, you eat through all the people right next to the price, then the next, then the next and get progressively further away from where you were. After the trade, the new buy/sell is immediately calculated by whoever is left as new waves of buy/sell orders get produced.
So if a load of people buy a load of stocks, they communally eat through all the people selling at the current price, selling at prices cents above the current price (the next cheapest) and into the sellers selling at dollars above the current price. The next cheapest share is the new current price, which has just gone up. The inverse is true with people ever willing to automatically buy if a stock dips.
Luv you guys as always. :-)
I could hardly wait to see your reaction when he got to New York lol.
He's good at German because his mother is Austrian. So his whole super nationalistic Britisher comedy shtick is about getting other boys to leave him alone about being a bit German. It's the same with his high level of nerdy knowledge when he's doing the anti-intellectual Pub Landlord character.
Yes. At last. Great reaction.
If it hasn't been mentioned already . Al Murray's grandmother was Austrian and he learnt to speak German form her.
With the black dog he couldn’t name.. it’s in reference to Wing Commander Guy Gibson of the Royal Air Force during WW2 and his dog.
Best Al Murray is Al Murray around the world on a Sunday night at the Queensbury Theatre, with folks like you and me.
Al Murray Nations of the World.
Fuck is a universal word that just fits in to any sentence
The German is half English half German, mostly about the World Cup.
Round about 2008 isn'it
Great review
Loving your videos. You should do Kevin Bridges sleepover stand up. You've seen him on Would I Lie to You.
Before It’s coming home he was singing you’re shit, and you know you are. A hugely popular football chant sung to the tune of Go West by YMCA/ Pet Shop Boys. Hilarious.
Just spent a week in New York and only heard that F word when I used it ! Great City
The higher shares are worth obviously the more a company is worth, so to qualify for your company to sell shares it has to be a PLC in the U.K. (not sure what US equivalent is) so to sell shares on the stock market the company becomes owned by investors that could be based anywhere in the world. Major shareholders CONTROL a company is how global finance works
brilliant and true
And when things go wrong don' t you want an Irish accent giving you the bad news?
No shit... that's part of what I do for a living. 😀
Brilliant 👍🏻
That black lad knows what's going on in the world ...respect
The London traders are spot on !
I can't stop watching this
Fucking love you mugs. Favourite channel by far
The New York bit got me.
his sitcom time gentleman please is great
This never gets old 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and new york is literally the american london, you fucks 😉💪🏻👍🏻
Best New York reaction. 🤌
At 22:05.The name of the dog whose name he can’t pronounce in the workplace is also a reference to the movie The Dam Busters where they had a dog named the N word.
The German is sketch is about German winning the world cup, Germany's 7-1 win over Brazil, in the world cup Semi final. Good bye pele. And saying England is shit, as we went out in the first round (group stage), and that they gave Argentina a good f&%*ing 1-0 in the final.
Also love theway he manages to shoe-horn in about 1846 Corn Laws Repeal , the Crimean War of 1854 with PM Gladstone, in the middle of the show
The sound of wind rushing over heads is deafening.
Al Murray talking about bacon has to be done
I have done a similar routine in Spanish. Only while driving though. People crash into me by way of gratitude.
genuine question... 16:34 - which one said "oh no" like a professional ventriloquist?
Guys it aint hedge funds that put the stock prices up. It's "Market Makers" - big financial institutions which own large quantities of various stocks which they buy from or sell to brokers and others.
