I think people think that all their spiritual problems go away instantly just by believing in Christ. Usually it’s more of a process that God himself will complete. Just trust in him. We might still struggle with it until we go to heaven but that draws us closer to him. Just keep on praising the Lord and it might go away in his timing.

YES, AMEN!! I been feeling this way for a year now. I am a woman that has struggled with many additions, depression and so forth. I feel that once I pray for God to remove these thing He would do it istantly and there are times when God will. But there are times that He teaches us how to keep giving it over to Him, God knows it hard but if we make excusses or say it it is not really in the Bible we never allow God to really help us in times when we are weak.

This is where the work of God really really amazes me.
I was a slave for this addiction for over 2 decades. First I thought it was because I needed to be with someone with the physical attraction that I desire. Then I thought maybe I had to be with someone that had the same drive. Nope! Lastly I thought maybe I just had to be with someone that gives me the love and affection I might need. Wasn't it either. This addiction messed me up bad and people around me that I truly love was not enough to help me stop. One day I couldn't deal with it anymore and finally had a sincere talk with God. On my knees crying and begging for help. Took God literally just a couple of minutes to send his help. Changed my life. Desire is a lot less but when they do come, immediately and easily stopped. The answer? GOD'S LOVE. Once I learned and realized how much he loves me, no desire out there is more important than my love for him. And it's going to be the same way when or if God puts me in a situation where he uses me to share my heart with someone again. God is amazing.
Amen. From personal experience, this very common addiction today is very dangerous and harmful to your relationship with God. I am so glad you are overcoming this addition, remember to always put on the armor of God never give up the fight. This addition makes me think of Romans where Paul speaks of the sinful flesh waging ware against the spirit: "So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!". In Timothy he says: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” So here we see a man who truly realized what Jesus really meant when he said "Anyone who wishes to follow me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me" where "If you love me, keep my commands." or "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments.” Therefore, "...Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” God bless you. I don't consider it addiction as long as it doesn't stand in the way of you taking care of important matters. Now if you feel the need to do it several times per day then you have a masturbation problem. I consider real addictions to be smoking , alcoholism and gambling. Simply find other things to and you will be alright.

@@carlosmarcial6144 Yes and no, I'll say it's very much implied that it is a sin, but the exact word for word reference of it being a sin is not in the Bible. I will explain more later on in this response as to why it is implied. Think of the sin of masturbation like this: If your parents were upset with you and made a statement for you to never bully Jimmy at school ever again, so you decide that your going to wait until he is not at school to bully him, did you really respect your parents? No, you just worked your way around their words very well knowing that they didn't want you to bully Jimmy at all. This analogy can be applied to masturbation, where we, including myself, have tried to work ourselves around God's word to find the 'path of least resistance' when reading his Word. Where instead we should use all of his Word for "teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness's that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work".
Just want you to know that I say all this out of Love and pray that God causes me to TRULY mean that. In that being said this is not written to address you alone, because I don't know your thoughts or what you do in secret, only God does. So I am not accusing you of participating in such actions, but to more so address my own past sins and others past/present and future sins in this specific topic.
Jesus Christ makes it very clear that Christianity is more about a relationship with God, also the bible is very clear that Sexual Immorality is a sin, same with lusting after another woman is a sin. When Jesus talks about how lusting after another woman is adultery he is also talking about a much deeper way in which we are to conduct ourselves. I am going to relate this also to when Jesus talks about hating another is murder, these are all aspects of how God is calling us to live in a true relationship with him. As a result, God through Jesus is calling us to strive for higher standards of Godliness, where we are not only judged by our actions but by our desires and thoughts. with all this being said and that we are supposed to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind" and we are to "present [our] bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing to God, which is your reasonable service", I find it very hard to justify that any means of masturbation is acceptable. I read 1 Corinthians 6 where Paul says "Don't be immoral in matters of sex. That is a sin against your own body in a way no other sin is. You surely know that your body is a temple where the Holy Spirit lives. The Spirit is in you and is a gift from God. You are no longer your own. God paid a great price for you. So use your body to honor God" and find it very difficult to justify any actions of maturation. I think we as Christians all got to ask ourselves. Is masturbation honoring God, where "marriage [is] held in honor among all, and the marriage bed [is] undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous"?. Is doing the act of masturbation presenting ourselves as holy and living sacrifices to God by doing his will in following his purpose for sex, stated by Paul: “Each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control”? Is masturbation going against what the bible says in 1 Corinthians 7:9 or 1 Corinthians 7:36, where Paul talks about how one should marry instead of burring with passion and/or committing sexual immorality?
As a result, it is hard to justify any type or reason for masturbation unless it glorifies God, honors marriage, does not involve any amount of lustful desires and doesn't demonstrate any lack of self-control. I would say that masturbation violates them all.
Lastly, I just want to say that a relationship with God doesn't mean by any means that we are given any more of a right to peruse sin, on the contrary, we are judged more strictly because we are filled with the Holy Spirit and are aware of Gods mercy in saving us from our former way of living, so we should have to mindset of rather dying than continuing to sin (just know I am not speaking of complete sinless perfection in Christ, as he is there ready to forgive when we do sin). I know how a lot of human relationships work, where once we think we are close to someone we can take advantage of them. Let me give you an example and I am as guilty of this a anyone else: many times I have neglected the responsibility of my family, where I would abuse my close relationship with them, by not doing certain things to help them out, though I would readily do it for a friend who isn't as close to me because of the selfish reason of not wanting to seem like a bad person or bad Christian. Instead, how I should conduct myself in a Godly manner is to first treat my family right then go and do likewise to the world. If I don't, I may seem to be loving and a good person to the world, but considered a fake to myself and ultimately God. For how can we say we love God but not love others, likewise how can we say we love others but not our own flesh and blood, and how can we say we love others but not God. Therefore, we are to TRULY Love God first, giving up our lives to him just as he gave up his life for us.

Therein lies THE problem** Usually, the man who teaches this is a married man who has access to his wife who is willing to submit to him for HIS SEXUAL NEEDS. However, what about the UNMARRIED person who has no mate, but is highly passionate and in NEED of sexual release?
They must apply that which is said to Timothy. Sure the guy is a pastor. Pastors are firstly orators not teachers.
They must keep the attention, interest of the audience not to offend, hence loosing numbers.
He avoids mentioning the verse that Paul instructed Timothy: “Flee Sexual Immorality, Flee youthful lusts desires, desires of the flesh!”
Ok if you read this far in my opinion his audience is not mature enough to receive the above verse I quoted.

and if no one would share it with you? i'm not going to live 800 years as some in the bible did, waiting for a wife. the nursing home years draw nearer. it does become easier to resist as you get older, and things just break down on their own, like an old worn out car. problem will solve itself by default come to think of it. I recall in the one section in the bible where the eunuch was saved. from this perspective, that guy was one that didnt have to deal with this problem. he didnt have the mental torment of right and wrong. he was free by default.
Ok, I just have to say this first thing. The fact he is EVEN addressing this from the pulpit in such a candid manner is a miracle in my opinion. WOW, it is ABOUT TIME the church got real. Aside from that, his approach was very interesting, I thought, in terms of marriage and it removing the desire to connect. That was very powerful, meets people where they are and he used appropriate humor to put the congregation at ease. Can we all be honest here? It's a thing folks and we ALL know it, if the church does not address it in truth then his flock will look elsewhere. I like it when a pastor is keeping his flock protected by addressing difficult issues no matter how uncomfortable, if Christians cannot be honest with one another there is no hope for this world.

I appreciate this video very much. Masturbation is something I've struggled with from childhood. But this year especially God asked me to confess this sin, stop hiding it away and struggling. He's working on me now. But this is happening as I finally submit and make God the centre. This has meant getting back to reading and studying his word more deeply than before.
I've fallen several times on this journey over the last months but I know there is hope. I will prevail because Jesus already overcame sin for us all.

Hi. The thing that helped me give up porn, was hearing about how it affects the church. Even Pastors and elders, wives and Christian husbands are watching porn regularly. I don't know why, maybe God spoke to me, but it set me free. I didn't want to be another statistic. Good luck. Try giving up porn first, and then masturbation down the track a bit. Back when I was a kid there was only magazines and usually my imagination was enough anyway.
Yes this is tough, and its probably made worse because we don't discuss it and try to hold each other accountable. We should talk about it more and try to encourage each other.
Time to start thinking for yourself. Religion is just ubiquitous brainwashing done by parents to their children and based on man's fears, desires and beliefs. If you're a Christian, you could have easily been born into a Buddhist or Atheist family so who is right at that point? Also, if god has a Divine Plan then why do followers pray for good things to happen? Wouldn't granting those prayers change the Plan? And if good things are prayed for then why isn't god condemned for all the BAD things in this world (e.g. Holocaust) - turnaround is fair play. I can relate with what you are going through. I was once a pornography addict. I was so tired and fed up yet I couldn't stop myself. I would cry and cry but I couldn't stop. Today I am free and it's two years now I haven't gone back to it.
This is how I got delivered.
I was a sin living Christain, so FIRSTLY I had to rededicate my life to CHRIST. I realized I couldn't stop by my own strength so I asked the Lord to please help me. I got rid of materials ( movies,books, musics) that would make me want to indulge. I started reading my Bible constantly. I got a shepherd that I can be accountable to. I got rid of friends that would notbhelp me grow, I surrounded myself with brethrens. I started watching Christain movies and books.
My brother truthfully I haven't gone back to it since two years now.
* The point is allow Jesus to help you and surrounded yourself with godly content and godly people*

There is a serious distinction that I don’t think I’ve ever heard when discussing masturbation and sin. There is a difference between lust and natural sexual desire. Sexual desire in and of itself is not lust. You can be married and still lust after your own wife. This subject is more complex than we give it credit for. Lusting includes themes such as inappropriate, obsessive, and extreme desire for something. There are fine lines involved. Again, all sexual desire is not lust, or there wouldn’t be a distinction.
Exactly ! I wish ppl start realizing it’s a huge difference what the intentions aren’t. Don’t matter if it’s with a wife. It can still be dirty and lustful and wasted seed if there’s negative intentions or negativity involved .
Exactly! My pastor just spoke about this. Having a natural sexual desire is something God created in us, therefore it cannot be sinful. Lust involves a choice and act of the will. Admittedly there will be gray areas. It is not wrong to admire someone of the opposite sex. It is wrong if you start obsessively desiring intimacy with that person.

As a more mature woman who never married, and has issues with physical boundaries, yes, I have and yes, I still do. Not often, it comes in waves, and the only real guilt I have felt is the times I do look upon things I shouldn't, however, seeing people IN the church, and of the church even, living together without marriage, sleeping with this one or that, I kind of feel there is a huge amount of hypocrisy over this. For me, it's more a matter of hormonal balance, and keeping my body in tune with what nature says it needs. I have tried to work on the intimacy issues I have, but maybe God made me that way, who knows. But it is hard, because there is always guilt.

but he give wrong advice, According to what you just said, masturbation is not wrong; if I am looking at a woman and desire it in my mind, this could be wrong. But if I am looking at an image that might not even exist, it is not wrong, or virtually.
People might dream and Masturbate while dreaming. I think you interpret this fact wrong. Masturbation's like feeling hungry; you need to eat. Otherwise, we should fight hunger.
However, masturbation in an excessive way could damage the body physically, so that is wrong. But not normally masturbation.
It is wrong to tell people. Masturbation is wrong, as I am sure you do. Masturbation, in fact, if you don't do this, affects your body and damages your body scientifically.
This is a fact, if you do not do masturbation, the sperm in your body might die, and your ability to produce good sperm become weaker. So telling masturbation is wrong itself is wrong.

First, thank you for your attitude and approach here - it always helps to be candid. Second, I come from a generation where some Christian sex manuals speak about the use of self pleasuring as a useful method of assistance to married couples in various circumstances, so I wouldn't have placed the matter in the realm of absolutely never to begin with. That brings us to the field of using this outside of marriage. In his really helpful book, "Sexy - the quest for erotic virtue in perplexing times", Professor of theology and philosophy Jeff Mallinson makes one of the best examinations of the issues in respects to the scriptures and historical theology and unpacks why we make such a mess of this matter. He highlights how its all to easy for us to become 'theologians of glory' (i.e. the world yet to come - as in Romans 8) before passing through the pain and actual reality of our struggles right now (Paul in Romans 7), This matter needs to understood in that context. It's certainly easy for aspects of our sexuality to become a problem (if it causes withdrawal from actual life and engagement with others), but that does not have to be so. The Apostles teaching regarding our inherent sinfulness is imperative to all we determine on such matters and how we then unpack our own behaviour to seek to do what is best in our particular circumstances.

Sexual desire is good if directed toward a spouse or potential spouse. Lust towards someone who is not a potential spouse is wrong. Masturbation is neutral. The issue is if you can control where your mind goes during the act.

It's interesting this video was the first on my feed today. Ever since becoming a follower of Jesus, I have always felt that masturbating is a sin. Even the mindless version of it. And that scripture that our bodies are our temple and to flee from sexual immorality are always on my mind. As a single 40 year old man, that, by the grace of God, has been delivered from pornography and sex addiction issues just over 3 years ago when I gave my life to Jesus. I still struggle with the lust of the eye and thoughts from time to time and I LITERALLY just said a prayer about this very thing on the way home from work, in my mind, for God to deliver me from this evil. The urge went away almost immediately. Then boom, here I am 2 hours later seeing a video about this very thing, confirming my personal thoughts and beliefs on this topic. God always finds a way to speak to me even when my ears and mind aren't fully focused on Him. It's hard being a single follower of Christ when sexual immorality has basically become a cornerstone in our USA society. Women wearing skimpy clothing, it's on almost everything you watch these days, people proudly talking about all the sex they have with numerous partners, etc. Steel your heart and mind on God, and HE WILL FIGHT FOR YOU, AND GIVE YOU VICTORY!

you might want to go with whats in the bible and not just what you've always felt. Masturbation isnt sex and because we are Gods temple, then we need to take care of ourselves. That doesnt mean going through pain and deleting all pleasure. It means not to allow anything to overtake us and become our God. for example, addiction, money, sex, exercise, work, ........ These things arent bad alone, but let them overtake you and they do become bad for you and your relationship with God.
But if you "feel" it is a sin, (even if the bible says it is not) then it does become a sin for you. So yes, stay away from it at this point.

Thank you for addressing a topic which many pastors bypass. I know it's not God's best and when I have done it, I feel empty inside afterwards. I don't try and "hide" it from God, I admit I have done it, ask for forgiveness and carry on. Having said that, when God created Adam and Eve it was with the intention of them being led by the spirit, through the mind and body (flesh) would follow. We are born with a sin nature into a fallen world. We are bombarded from all angles to satisfy the flesh first, not to live from spirit and control the flesh. (King David was a prime example of how things can go wrong). We are all work in progress, so I think if you do it, admit it to God, carry on and eventually it will subside. The Holy Spirit convicts us, without condemnation when we fall short.

The key for your grandson would be to daily meet with fellow Soldiers for reading His Holy Word together, even if only 15-30 min, trusting that God’s Word is powerful enough to keep us and protect us. I was born and raised Catholic. I went to a Catholic elementary and high school, and attended DePaul University in Chicago. With all of the challenges in the church - too many to list, why are we still talking about masturbation? Doesn’t this seem to be among the least important of questions in the early 21st century for the church with its own much more serious and in some cases vile problems as an institution? There is no condemnation for believers . I too would go thru bouts of guilt when I would succumb to lustful desires , but KNOWING that Jesus died for all my sins … past , present , and future … made me realize that God understands all will fail , but the sacrifice of his Son paid the price ONCE AND FOR ALL . You are the closest to understanding that God created us as sexual beings, and does not condemn us for that. He helps us manage sexual issues without condemnation. Guilt regarding these things is mostly self inflicted. Even if a sexual sin was committed there is forgiveness at the cross for it. God understands us perfectly well!

When I read the passages in Scripture that says to deny ourselves, for me, that pretty much said it all for me, as much as I don't want to admit it. Living for Christ isn't going to be easy, but I believe that there is a purpose for all that He commands us to do (and not do).
I believe the Bible does talk about masturbation. It comes under the heading of purity, holiness and learning to control ones body in away that is honorable.

Pastors that talk about singles masturbating never seem to understand what it's like to be a single person without a spouse to get sex from. My advice for single women is to stay extremely busy so that you just don't have time for it. I have a job, 2 poodle puppies, and a Betta fish that help take up my time. I also keep my house clean and learn how to do fix-it-myself stuff in my home and car. Also, Bible reading, praying, volunteer work, and of course... shopping!

That’s baloney. It’s not ‘hard to find a wife.’ There are plenty of Christian women out there.
What’s hard is to better yourself and conform to the image of God. What’s hard is understanding that maybe your masturbation is the very reason that God is withholding a spouse from you (this is not always the case but I’m trying to make a point).
What’s hard is being intentional in your walk and being honest enough to say to yourself- “until I become a man worthy of my Godly wife, God is going to withhold her from me.” And that day just might NEVER come, not matter how Godly you become. But it is not our will, but he will be done.
TLDR: no excuse for masturbating. If you get the urge, that’s a good reminder to read the Bible, or go for a run.

Not sure about sharing here. But my husband and I have had a very healthy sexual marriage for many years. Until frontotemporal dementia (FTD) took my husband’s feelings. He was diagnosed at 55 now 58. I’m still a sexual being who craves sex from my husband. But because of his apathy I don’t get that. I love him, I touch his arm, his back, hold his hand, hug, etc. Touch is an incredible area of intimacy. After hearing your 6 minute talk I feel that God is saying it’s ok for me.

Masturbation seems to be a hot topic these days. It does not cause any short term or long term physical harm. A make orgasm releases a huge amount of dopamine and serotonin. A well known fact, men do not identify sex as a relational connection till after the orgasm has taken place. This is where men and women are different which may be one of the reasons why sex is so important for men. It’s our way of the connection completion. I digress, as a Christian I have never found masturbation harmful except that it went against my established Christian beliefs that I have been taught and how I read the word of God. But it is possible that this simple pleasurable task meh be misinterpreted since it is indeed so common for men on our generation and I am sure in previous generations but in previous generation simply was not an issue except for Victorian times. I still struggle with what Jesus said about thoughts of lust. When I was a young Christian my hormones were off the charts as any young man, and I prayed about the issue as any Christian but were my prayers answered? I got married, have been married for many years but still masturbate. Has God forgotten about me or is it simply not the issue we make it to be in this generation?

Oftentimes we try get victory over things that we haven't repented about: things that we don't have a godly sorrow for. We can feel guilty without having a godly sorrow for our wrongdoing; for our sin.

Appreciate your honesty. I went to a Bible College many years ago, and one day our teacher said during the teaching, "Masturbation is a sin!" I don't remember anything she said before or after that statement.
Later that week I was in the car going somewhere with her husband, and I happened to mention to him that she had said that masturbation was a sin. He said, You need to pray about it. That is all that was said, period.
Unfortunately, I failed to pray about, and it came back to bite me later on. I had never repented over being lustful as a child, and having masturbated in the past, and that left the door open for Satan to do His dirty work.
Although I never lusted when I was in Bible College, (for which I am very thankful) later it came back to be a real problem . . .
Anyway, years later, when I did finally get around to earnestly praying about masturbation, God simply showed me that He made Adam and Eve.
He did not create Adam to lust after himself, or Eve to lust after herself.
For that matter, God did not create Adam and Eve to lust after each other but to love one another.
As they gave themselves to each other in love, God gave each of them pleasure.
God then reminded me that it is more blessed to give than to receive. As we give to give, we are blessed. If we give to get, that is wrong - that is not God's way, that is lust.
Love and lust are as different as night and day.
What many people call love is simply lust. For instance, you don't "make" love.
God gave us sex for two people to become one out of love for each other, not out of sexual desire or sexual drive.
Of course, He gave us a desire for sex within the context of a legitimate marriage between male and female as the Bible says.
People can get married and still lust after each other, however, after sexual pleasure for themselves, not out of true love for one another.
The reason we have guilt about masturbation is because it is wrong. It is something to talk to God about lovingly. He wants us to honour our body as His holy temple.
The Bible says that we are to honour God in our body and in our spirit which belong to God.
When a person gets married their body doesn't belong to themselves but to their mate - the Bible is very clear about this. Our whole being including sexuality, belongs to God and to our mate.
You can be sure that Jesus never lusted after Himself although He was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. He never lusted after anyone else either.🙂

Correct, if you are not married than you are expected to be chaste. Do you want sexual pleasure? Then go out into the world, find a partner, and get married. Read 1 Cor 7. Simple as that.

I'm also challenged by this idea that marriage is a cure all. We know for certain that there are countless unholy marriages. That partners routinely sin against each other and with each other. And it also gets confusing when marriage is pushed as an end goal while Catholic priests are never to be married.
Like many things, masturbation is loosely interpreted by men since the words of God never addressed it in the Bible. And it's these loose interpretations that have pushed millions of people away from the church.

I gave up alcohol, smoking cigarettes, and vaping for almost 3 years now. The two sins, I struggle with today is cursing and masturbating and I humbly admit, I need help and prayer because it is much more difficult than anything else I gave up for God. Cursing is a problem you develop from your circle of friends/family/secular music/movies/series/shows, also you need to get delivered from the demon in which the Pastor can help you, get FULLY delivered, you’re most likely possessed by a demon and it’s probably Jezebel spirit.

Perhaps my experience will help. First be convinced that it’s defiling oneself and it’s not acceptable to God.
Then one should repent of it and then ask God to help you not to do it again.
As I kept on asking God for His help I did it less and less and finally I broke free of this bondage.
It’s a weakness but God can help us overcome it.

I feel we should have faith in God as well as his Son Jesus Christ. We all struggle with something but we have to want to stop it and have God to help us with the problem. We eat, sleep, work, we stay faithful. I think since we are human beings, reducing stress without hurting someone else should be acceptable. It's their choice. Do we feel guilty for going to a spa or getting a massage? No.

Solo sex is always sin. Even if you can have your mind on nothing sexual. God requires the husband to satisfy his wife sexual need and she is to do the same.. So it should never be about satisfying yourself. The act of solo sex is self centered. Christians are supposed to be other center.
