The Hollander's a SWEET ride. A quick Light class carrying a large, long-range gun. I'd like to see the original Coventry model design or multiple attempted alterations, if given the necessary increases in resources and potential/likely reclassification.
As a walking gun boom, this looks like THE long nose BattleMech of all of the many, many which I've seen displayed and Narrated. While the great thumbnail image gives this model the look of hoisting a power arm, the third image of the video after 2:28 lends the Hollander a Hellboy-fist aspect. No doubt that's artistic perspective, however this design could use that extreme close-range additional compensation of pugilistic defense versus adversary 'Mechs (if it endured that long to get that close-up). Admittedly, the single-weapon armament can be perceived as a heavy disadvantage, although this unit was specialization-built for specific mission applications for which the Hollander's reputation reflects its repeated successes. SkyNET hasn't got the monopoly on effective, cool-designed Hunter-Killers.
I really like this 'Mech, GDN. It looks and sounds like the Hollander is one of the prime examples of an HK 'Mechs across the entire universe's history. How else could a giant Gauss/sniper rifle of great effectiveness be mounted upon a chassis capable of high speed, after all? Whether version I through III, it remains a Light 'bot. Thank you very much for assembling a clarified and interesting vid record on the more-complicated-than-usual backstory to this one, Narrator. 'Til your next BattleMech sign-on, have an awesome week.
The Hollander's ridiculous look, and single big gun setup, made it an incredibly memorable mech! This is why I like it.
It's literally a Metal Gear Rex.
@@bombomos I now need a dancing Rex and dancing Hollander side by side

Hello Grim.
The Hollander, as originally designed, was a 'wake-up call' to a lot of players when first released into the tabletop game. And even though a bit 'limited' by its single weapon, it was a force to be considered as it sniped other Mechs from very long range.
The Later Hollander II designs were much more palatable to players overall. Although my favorite design, the Hollander II MC-W was 'ripe' for a bit of refitting.
Although expensive in C-Bills, such a conversion was something I felt made the design even more lethal.
The Hollander II MC-W comes with the Gauss Rifle, a medium laser in the right arm, and a Large laser in the left arm. It has 8.5 tons of standard armoring, and has a 225 XL Fusion Engine (IS).
By replacing the standard Gyro, with an XL Gyro, one frees up enough weight to add an Anti-Missile system into the Head, and a ton of ammo into the left torso. There is just enough space to add TSM to the Mech as well... improving the Mech's speed a bit, as well as making any close combat attacks more dangerous due to the 45 ton nature of the Mech. 4 damage per punch, doubled up to 9 damage. Kicking attacks also double as well, from 9 damage, up to 18 damage per kick.
Although NOT intended to engage in close combat, the ability to do so effectively, increases the danger presented by fielding this 'altered' design. The boost in speed from 5/8/0 up to 6/9/0 does not hurt at all, when needing to relocate to another firing position during combat. Such a 'minor' speed boost is unexpected for this design, and thus can be a surprise to opponents faced in battle. Also, that little 'boost' in speed can often spell the difference in whether or not, the Hollander can relocate to that better firing position in an 'optimal' period of time.
The addition of the Anti-Missile system enables this variant of the Hollander to weather incoming LRM fire fairly easily, and the generally thicker armor of the Hollander II MC-W gives the Mech more 'endurance' on the battlefield.
The Hollanders, all of them, at least to me, seem to be a case of attempting to put as big of a gun onto the smallest chassis as possible, just to make use of new weapons technology. But, as you can see from above, one can improve upon the design.
So, in conclusion... I feel the original Hollander was a bit of a 'flawed' design, but worthwhile for a 'sniper' Mech. The Hollander II and the later Hollander III designs were 'better' in some aspects, and yet could be further improved, as I've shown above.
God's I hated & respected this mech when it came out at first I thought it was a bad joke of a mech until my head disappeared one turn later
lol
Anything with a gauss rifle, you gotta show respect.
I'm a sucker for the Hollander. I used to use to so much in MechCommander.
Yo, I heard you like guns and mechs, so I made this mech into a gun... Or did I make a gun into a mech?
Either way, I hope you like it!
Hello... Yeah, sort of like the A-10 'Warthog' aircraft... a gun you build a plane around. With the original Hollander design, you have a gun you built a Mech around. Similar concept. But, if you look at my comment here, you will find my re-design of the Hollander II Mech, which I think is a more 'mature' design of the Hollander II MC-W design. Mature, as in an upgraded design, making use of even more high-tech to improve its combat effectiveness.
That made me laugh more than it should've.
Excellent little 'Mech, if a bit ridiculous looking, but that's BattleTech. Asymetical 'Mechs Rule!!!
One of the most perfect sniper mechs ever designed. I have run two Hollanders in my homegrown Merc Battalion since this design came out. I always used a high low approach when using the Hollander. Station on uo high and out of sight for sniping and one running around the peripheral of the battlefield taking shots at a distance. I named one of them Calamity Jane and the other one Annie Oakley.
Bascially a light mech with a VERY big gun mount.
I'd find a version with ERPCC mounts and a lot of heat sinks.
6 of them.
A nice radio and two Locusts to call targets.
More like a very big gun with legs at this point. That Gauss and its ammo make up literally more than half the damn tonnage of the whole thing.
@@magni5648 its kinda like an A-10 Warthog.
Two engineers saw a gun hardpoint and turned to each other and said lets buld a battlemech around it!
The Hollander is the basis for my dream light sniper a light Mech with a Long Tom.
Oh! Try a Hollander with 2 Parti-Kill PPCs in place of the gauss rifle.
The Hollander II is one of my favorite medium mechs
The Hollander in a sniper team can be quite deadly I like distract my opponent's with one Hollander then use the second one to attack from a different direction spreading my sniper team apart
And using my best heaviest mech
as bait they can be death from a distance and with two Hollander's
from two different directions resolving your enemy player to divide their forces making them easy prey for lighter force's to get
up behind and ambush them
That’s the way you do it. Get the enemy to chase the rabbit, then spring the trap.
One of the best light snipers for a budget. Even heavies and assaults fear a Guass sniper.
Last time I used one of these mech I was able to park it on top of a hill and not move it the rest of the game. Never got hit, and got 1 kill and 2 assists. Great sniper mech. 👍
Yeah, ppl sleep on this Mecha way too much. To their peril.
Nice
I never played this mech before.
Hello. I had similar results when fielding the original Hollander Mech back in the 90s. This did not stop me from 'tinkering' with the design over time, although I never got a design I really liked, until the Hollander II was released into the game. Even then, I felt it could be 'improved', and if you look for my comment in the postings here, you will see my slight redesign of the Hollander II MC-W, which I feel is a more 'mature' redesign of the 'standard' MC-W. Mature, as in, a later 'upgrade' of the design to improve its abilities, or combat potential.

Yes, I saw that comment. Excellent post. I screenshotted it for inspiration in my MechWarrior 5 playthrough, as I have a few Hollanders lying around in cold storage. I hope you don’t mind.
TF2 sniper would love this mech.
"Steady. Steady!"
"Railgun sounds" *Hits Highlander head, k*lls pilot*
"Tagged ya! You wobblin' Scot!"
Great, now I want a TF2/Battletech crossover, lol.
I love this little Mech. Devastating little heavy hitter:)
Ahh, the Hollander. Proof that, actually, there might be such a thing as TOO MUCH GUN.
Phew, finally a good-looking version of the Hollander in the thumbnail. The one in the original TRO 3055 (and the one you used as the first image in the intro) looks ugly af. :D
One of the silliest looking mechs
I've used these mechs before. Would you believe that I got a lucky shot! Yes it was in the Halo crossover. It was a Scarab.
Thumper on a light mech.
Good video! You did miss the original Hollander had a replacement built by Coventry named the Blitzkrieg. Big gun mech like Hollander but speedier.
It's my favorite mech so far.
If you can throw hands you're never defenseless
Hey, I love your content!
I've been waiting for someone to talk about the Hollander.
One note.
Debut is pronounced "day-byoo". It's French. ❤️
Noted!
One of the better units from tro 3055.
Hey GrimDark I was wondering if you'd do some less noted mechs such as the Shrike, Gyrfalcon, or Jade hawk? I personally love these mechs as I like their aggressive looks with some elegant curves. I actually just won a Solaris VII battle with my Shrike. 95 tons with 5 Insulated Medium Pulse lasers an er small and 6 jumpjets.
I'll eventually get to them. The plan is to cover all existing mechs.
I am a Hollander Fan
I'm surprised that they never built a version with a HPPC though.
Hello... You're not the only one!
you can easily put a HPPC on a panther. Still not as good as the double PPC Adder
Maybe it can be used as a frontline support mech, let the big mechs draw the fire and have the Hollander blap the enemy mech?
It's a sniper. You do NOT put a sniper up front!
Why does that Hollander have a shell casing? Isn't the Gauss a solid nickel-iron slug?
Great video merry early xmass
Likewise!
The Clan Urban Mech
it's an iS mech.
@@orionhan2431 Close enough
The Clanner comparison here is the the type A Kit Fox. At least for the Hollander's counterpart.
The Clans do have a (dumb) IIC Urbie.
@@bthsr7113
Their Urbanmech is pretty good. They didn’t change too much and it fulfills its role admirably.
The Hollander is my favorite inner sphere chassis in the light class. The Grand Titan is my favorite inner sphere in the assault class...the atlas is a 100 tons of over hyped garbage.
Dirt cheap mech with insane firepower for its weight. You can buy at least 8 hollanders for a price of a single AS7-K.
That's ridiculous.
I don't like the hollander mech
The Hollander is a silly battlemech. Replace the gauss with an ERPPC or Heavy PPC, add medium lasers, heatsinks and more armor.
it isnt an omni mech. it has 1 big ballistic hardpoint and 1 or 2 small energy hardpoints.
If you want a single PPC on a mech, use the Panther. The whole point of Hollander is its capable of carrying a big weapon like the Thumper Artillery or Gauss.
