  • Grünerløkka is one of the most interesting neighborhoods in Oslo, a hipster paradise a 10 minute walk from Central Station. Surprisingly few tourists visit Grünerløkka, and that's really a pity. Some of the nicest cafes and bars in Oslo are located in Grünerløkka, and it's a foodies paradise.
    The main street of Grünerløkka is Thorvald Meyers gate. Thorvald Meyers gate starts where Ankerbrua brigde crosses Akerselva river, and ends at Birkelunden park in the north. Tram lines 11, 12 and 13 have three stops along Thorvald Meyers gate. From south to north:
    Schous plass
    Olaf Ryes plass
    Birkelunden
    Most of the shops, bars, restaurants and cafes on Grünerløkka are located around the Birkelunden and Olaf Ryes plass parks, and in the segment of Thorvald Meyers gate that is connecting them.
    The street parallel to Thorvald Meyers gate, closer to Akerselva river, is Markveien. The lower parts of Markveien houses many quirky shops and vintage boutiques. There are also a few cafes and bars, like Espresso House and the Brewdog pub.
    The area by Akerselva around Blå is a particularly beautiful part of the river. It is known for it's grafitti and industrial style. There are a few bars/cafes here, and Blå is also one of the best nightclubs in Oslo.
    Also by Akerselva river is the Oslo Food Court (Mathallen). Unlike other shops in Oslo which must remain closed on Sundays, Mathallen is allowed to stay open.
    Other options for Sunday shopping in Oslo are the flee markets at Birkelunden, and the smaller flee market outside of Blå, by the river. They are open mostly every Sunday, all year around.

    You possibly already do, but would be nice if you had your own in-person tours. You are very articulate and I get the feeling I’m not the only one who would buy a ticket. You’re getting lots of attention through youtube. Take it live, babe.

    Hey Jonas we love your videos! We are staying in Brugata in May and wondered what your thoughts are on the area or if you cover Brugata on any of your videos? Taak skal du ha!

    • @OsloProJonas
      @OsloProJonas  5 років тому +1

      Well, thank you :)
      Unfortunately, Brugata is the hangout of a lot of junkies. In the evenings, there may be 50 drug addicts settled in Brugata and around the Brugata bus stop. But it's very central, and it takes 2 minutes to walk to somewhere nicer, like Youngstorget. So, I wouldn't change the hotel booking for that reason. There are two bars which I like in Brugata. One is "Brewgata", they have craft beer from around the Oslo area. The other is "Vaterland Bar", a good metal pub, if you're into that sort of thing.
      I haven't been in Oslo since Christmas, so my information might be a little outdated.

    Sjukt stilig! Tenkte "hva pokker?!" når eg først klikket inn, men ein god blanding av fakta, litt humor, og overraskande god formidling av informasjon fekk meg til å sjå heile, og lyst å sjå vidare! Passe kjent på løkka, så det var gøy å sjå ein slags guide på det, og kunne følge med utan å gå meg "vill". Gode anbefalinger på plassar eg endå ikkje har besøkt :)

      It's legal to park facing the opposite direction in Norway. But I know it's illegal in many countries, including Sweden.

    Hi Jonas, I'm coming to Oslo this weekend for the first time and I really like underground places so I enjoyed your videos about bars, alternative areas etc. I am also looking for gigs so it's perfect! Thanks for all the tips!

      I guess you have already seen my video about underground bars? Be aware that the bars "Taxi Take Away" and "Maxitaxi" featured in the underground bars video have since closed.

      Annabelle Pineapple Great! Maybe you would enjoy Cafe Hærverk too if you like those kind of places (kafe-haerverk.com). It's a popular underground venue close to Blå for "noise" music and other electronica.
      Also, this Saturday is Musikkfest. Hundreds of free concerts in Oslo. Check musikkfest.no to find out where a music genre you like is playing. On Saturday, get some beer from the shop and head over to one of the parks!

    Du har en herlig tørr humor, abonnerte umiddelbart. Ingen tvil om hvilken landsdel du kommer fra når jeg så Karl Johan-videoen din og du skulle prøve forklare Scotsman XD
    Men et teknisk spørsmål: hva slags mygg/mic opplegg er det du bruker? Veldig god lyd, er på leting etter noe enkelt liknende som ikke trenger koste en formue.

      Hehe, takk! Jeg bruker en Zoom H1 opptaker og Sony ECM-CS3 mic fra bhphotovideo.com. De fleste mikrofoner til over 200 kroner vil nok funke. Trikset er å komme nær nok lydkilden (meg).

    i dont understand why Norwegians dont use their lompe to create their own street food:)? i dont want kebab and whatever other things, i want Norwegian fast food:). tourists also would want Norwegian options when they one day again come to visit. Norwegians should hustle more and create your own fast and street foods!!!:)

    Is it true that norwegians hate small talks?

    • @OsloProJonas
      @OsloProJonas  8 років тому +2

      We small talk all the time. Popular subjects include: the weather, ski wax, Trump. We don't talk to strangers, at least that's what I heard. But don't worry about that, it's just a stereotype, and Norway is made up of 5 million individuals.
