Pål, as someone who can speak, read, and write Norwegian, and has visited Norway more than 40 times, I loved this video. I have been to most of the spots you featured, but you educated me further and I learned about a couple places I have to visit the next time I am in Oslo. Norway has a unique, layered, and complex history and culture, and it's important to preserve and value it. I can see that you love your culture and it's refreshing to see.
I lived in Oslo for 13 years and I've been at these places except for the Munch scream viewpoint and Vettakollen. I've been around Nordmarka and Østmarka on skis on bike and by foot. My 'secret' is not a place but about timing. In the summer I've often driven to Huk after work. at 17pm there are few people there but the water in the fjord is still nice and warm. It's a lovely place to go walking or jogging even if the temperature is low.
Ça fait quelques temps que je cherchais des idées de lieux hors des sentiers battus à visiter pour mon prochain voyage à Oslo. Et c'est exactement cette vidéo que j'avais en tête. Merci !
Great video! We've been to quite a few of these, but some of them, like the Vigeland Mausoleum and Vettakollen hike, were new to us, and we can't wait to experience them the next time we're in Oslo.
Thanks Pal for the easy going videos on Norway travels. Am planning a trip with my wife this winter to Oslo, Bergen, and the coastal cruise. Looking forward to check out the items you have shared 😁🤗😍
Hi Pal, great videos and they are really helpful in planning my trip to Norway this coming winter. Loved Norway when I visited a couple of years ago in September, and after my winter trip I will be back next June as well. Thank you!
I went on a longer hike around that area last time I was in Oslo. Starting with a walk through Roseslottet, then wandering around and up for hours until I got to the Vettakollen view point, then on the way down I stopped at Sognsvann. Absolutely wonderful day!
I've been to Norway once, and I'm thinking of heading there again for my honeymoon. Very happy to find your channel, keep the videos coming! You've got yourself another sub! :)
Glad to see some Hotdog love! My favorite Dawgs here are Nathan's bun length. Insides and toppings, brown mustard & onions and on top beanless chili and coleslaw, so good!
Hi Pal love your videos! We are planning on coming to Norway on our honeymoon next year, we would like to travel as much as possible by trains and public transport would you consider making a video about using public transport, tickets and prices etc would be really useful! Thank you! Lora x
Hi Lora! Thanks for watching my videos! I have such an episode of my "to-do" list. Unfortunately I'm short of time, and not able to keep up producing new ones... :/ I hope to be able to create one sometime soon though. Btw. When you're at Vettakollen station (where he gets off for the hike), there is a pizzeria in the station building, ran by italians. They make the best pizza I've ever eaten (and I have eaten alot of pizza throughout my life). Reccommending it so strongly!

I second the Emanuel Vigeland Mausoleum recommendation. It's a very sensory experience (the sound especially), not one that can be done justice with a video. Also, make sure you spend at least 30 minutes inside. It's dimly lit, but once your eyes adjust to the darkness the frescos come alive. In a sense it's as much of a meditation exercise as an art experience.
Ilove your video.Yhanks. I m portugues and im goiing to oslo next year to meet yours library in oslo. Can you take one video about yours libery? Thanks Thanls
I guess there are no warm places during the winter, but there are places that are less cold. Typically these are the coastal areas, from Bergen and further south towards the very south of Norway.
Due to climate change and global warming summers are hotter and dryer, whilst winters are less cold, and more wet. Coastal and inlet villages, towns and cities are usually more mild than inland. But you have the cold winds that often make it seem more cold than it is. Tbh it’s not the cold that’s bad, but all the ice. Spikes are must haves here…
As a Norwegian I didn’t even know that pølsebod was even a thing until watching these types of videos. I live in Oslo, and wouldn’t normally pay attention, but I was at the sofa company 2 weeks ago, and then looked across the street and saw that specific sausage/hotdog stand, and I was like: “omg there it is” and wondered how many of its customers were tourists🤣🤣🤣 I don’t like sausages so didn’t get any.
From a tourist's perspective, the problem with Oslo is that you need to look so hard to find the gems. Go to, say, Stockholm or Copenhagen and they're all over the place.
Well depends how you look at it, the well known and generic ones you don’t have to «look for» as they are advertised and common knowledge, and Oslo is tiny compared to both Stockholm and Copenhagen, at least the downtown it self. Was recently to Stockholm last fall, haven’t been in years, so too overwhelming, too many people, and in comparison to Oslo I couldn’t cope with all the tall buildings due to claustrophobia…
Burde ikke lage videoer om Oslo om vinter'n. Fargeløst, kaldt, dødt. Telthusbakken f.eks. som om sommeren bugner av blomster og farger ser jo ut om det gjorde i gamledager, et fattigstrøk 😂
As someone who lived in Oslo and moved out, don’t fall for this propaganda piece. The only good spot to visit is syverkiosken but forget about driving anywhere, bring your life savings and pray to god that the terrible public transport system has charged their batteries. Yeah we use EL busses in negative 30 degrees, try to guess what the big story was last winter…
Huldra is often described as a tusse, it comes from old Norse þurs eller þuss, which means troll. So I think female troll is a fairly good description to the general public, but I can understand it might not be satisfactory to a Huldra expert such as you. Btw. Nobody really knows exactly where Munch (you forgot the H) actually stood/walked when he was struck with a sudden terror. But I think for a visitor to Oslo it’s nice to see the frame art work and read the description on the plaque which is there. Again, I understand this might not be satisfactory to a Munch expert like you ✌️
I don't understand how tourist can enjoy Norway, when someone can hardly buy anything here, even with a full time job. I just bought 4 pounds of spuds and two small beers. almost $15 at the cheapest store. It's gotten so insanely expensive these last years
It has gotten very expensive, but as I said my previous reply the NOK is very weak now, so for Americans for instance it's cheaper to come here than in a long time
