- Year 6 Season 1 Target 1 || Story / Lore || The Division 2
Following on from last season, we learned that the original first wave Rogue agent, Aaron Keener, was still alive.
On top of this, Kelso has decided to turn rogue, and join up with him.
The line between good and bad, agent and rogue, continues to blur, as we found out that Keener was working with Faye Lau to take down the Black Tusk, and eliminate the Hunters.
Once again, Keener has reached out to us, extending an invite to join him.
Is an alliance with him the key to stopping Natalya and the Black Tusk?
Can Keener be trusted?
Regardless, we need to prove our worth, and pass his trials, before we’re given that choice to make.

Based on the names of the trials, I find it fitting. Greek tragedies and such. The success won’t come without great cost. Suffering, retribution, legion, etc.
Yeah, something tells me there will be heavy consequences by the end of this.
Don't forget the Alice in Wonderland references. Also the texts on each bounty were weird.
@acgearsandarms1343 I'm wondering if the great cost isn't all the cells we've "taken down" so to speak. If keener and theo were able to convince us that they were "dead" who's to say the other cells apart from the black tusk agents, aren't still kicking it
Keener calling us Hercules could be in reference to the Labor’s of Hercules a series of trials the Greek Goddess Queen Hera made Hercules do before becoming a god.
So now we’re being tested by the guy we were supposed to hunt down to determine our worth. What a turn of events that I don’t know how to feel about.
Long time coming
Can’t imagine how Kelso felt doing these trials. They’re annoying but made sense why it took so long to find her.
Moreover we've been eliminating comrades.
Well after what we been doing dirty work for Cal & Natalia post WONY for 4 years after the latest manhunt, can u really trust the SHD at this point? Nah if Keener has the info to put a final blow against those two leaders, even if it means going Rogue, so be it
Idk either I still want to know about Shafer and how we Division gonna get back! Since attack onda Whitehouse
Keener: I don't just let anyone join my organization. Had to learn that the hard way.
Me: Not surprised considering the fact that we took down your most vital rogue cells, including your own.
You didn't take down anyone, it's just a show created by Keener to distract everyone.
Kajika, Drakov and Conley are just waiting in Brooklyn
Tbf our "Kill first, ask questions later" methods really fucked us when we killed Lau and put Schaffer in a coma
@@T0anto True but the other side also has same blame for being too secretive.
@@Amell_Wesker A shade of grey over a battle against things that seem to be black and white
@@jackthorton10 It all adds up eventually. The only questions is how dark the shade of grey is.
The fact that he's chosen various names from the Greek tragedies and based each codename around the names of each god, demi-god and hero should give us a hint as to what he's planning.
Echo: cursed by Hera for distracting her from try to catch Zeus in his affairs and thus could only repeat the last words spoken.
Hercules: The son of Zeus and mortal woman Alcmene. Killed his own family in a fit of madness caused by Hera and was given 12 labors by King Eurystheus in order to find redemption and would be granted a place among gods upon his death.
Leto: Had a relationship with Zeus that resulted in her getting pregnant with twins by Zeus. When Hera found out she was Furious and cursed Leto to never find solid ground or island to give birth to her children that would later named Apollo and Artemis.
Nyx: a primordial deity with more power than Zeus. The story for Nyx crosses with Hercules's when Hera has Nyx's son, Hypnos, put Zeus into a deep sleep so that she can whip up a storm that destroys Hercules's ship on his way home from Troy. Zeus awakens and finds out what has happened and attempts to throw Hypnos off Olympus. Hypnos runs to Nyx for protection knowing that Zeus wouldn't dare cross Nyx. Nyx resides in the deepest parts of the underworld known as Tartarus.
So here's what can be taken from each of these stories since Keener is using them as a code names for the following people or locations:
Hera is Natalya Sokolova
Zeus is Calvin McManus
Echo is Bridgette Douglas
Hercules maybe Unknown agent OR possibly Keener himself OR our agent
Leto: Unknown agent OR Vivian Conley
Apollo: Alexander Ortiz
Artemis: Claire Ortiz
Nyx: Unknown agent
Tartarus is referring to Black Tusk's secret bunker
More than likely "Hera" and "Zeus" are trying to establish a new world order where they are at the top of it all, however Zeus's "affairs" are causing problems for Hera and thus she is activating hunters that are loyal to her to remove the issues from the board entirely. And Keener, Theo and Kelso are working on a way to put a stop to "Hera" and "Zeus" by rescuing "Apollo" and "Artemis" from Tartarus and shutting down all access to the SHD servers that both "Hera" and "Zeus" have access too.
The fall of Olympus as it were?
There's also the fact that in this week's Descent comm where Keener attempts to convince agent Melanie Hoskins to defect and asks her to be his Ajax
@Krisars yep. And the fact that he was basically saying he was wanting HER to be his second in command. This season is gonna be interesting to say the least
This thread contains some pretty impressive detective work! ✅
Will also add that Hercules is probably our agent at this point in time since we are doing trials that we need to do for keener. And the lore of Hercules is he had 12 trials to do. Seems fitting.
What i just noticed is that manny is surprisingly absent youd think that he will have something to say after kelso turned rogue
Considering how Brooklyn DLC was supposed to release this year, I wouldn't be surprised if this season and the one after it are gonna be rather light in having dialogue while doing the sub targets
In the cutscene with us interacting with the SHD crate, ANNA flagged us as rogue (I believe). Once we entered the center of Stranded Tanker, ANNA activated the Rogue Network along with changing our agent status. Although idk, we are still welcome in the BOO, Campus, theater and yada yada.
TBF, Manny has Maira and a baby on the way now...maybe he's stepping (or already has stepped) down as Division Coordinator?
@@rogue_operator5565 ISAC still has us flagged as an active Agent and not rogue. The watch never turned red. It was Keener’s cloned watch that was red.
@@maverick_cw true....even though I don't like how they played that out. The romance was wayyyy out of character and he played a big part in early game and manhuts to be ripped off like that
I appreciate how you wove commentary and context into the gameplay to develop such an engaging storyline. It was fun watching a story unfold, rather than just a gaming session. Well done.
Rather interesting that the audio logs reveal that Keener had his eye on us since the start of Division 2 and he has been the person "leaking" and providing intel to us for almost every story mission but Manny never figure it out since Keneer made it look like a different person.
I really hope and the end of the season we are given a choice to go Rogue and Join Keener or stay with SHD
So we really are the last Agent then. Everyone else has gone Rogue or are dead.
...Man we're in the shit now.
Well there is agent sanders and del La Cruz where ever he is
I'm starting to get the feeling we might lose the white house this season
Don't worry. I'm used to being in the shit. I come bearing shovels are all of us. lol
more than half the player base sympathize with keener, we have all turned rogue at this point

I can’t believe I’ve followed this series for so long now
I took a year off this game...decided to hop back in it this past weekend and talk about a kick to the nuts with steel toe boots. Im back at it like a crack addict. Lets rock.
I still don't believe Kelso has betrayed in the long term
I see us joining the Rogue Agent Network (RAN) with Anna on the comms and Keener at the Helm. Its a matter of time before the SHD is officially declared rogue
Damn, I didn't even know the new season started.

Just back Into this game, been like 2 years and a lot has changed I was surprised on how the game changed a lot. Used to watch this channel so much and glad to be back into the game!? Awesome video now I got a lot to catch up on!
Kudos to you bro for sticking around this long with the story. I used to enjoy the direction this story was taking but I now find it's become too narrow and lacks vision. Coupled with the lack of content I've sadly walked away. Hopefully one day someone creative will pick this franchise up
Hell yeah I always look forward to NGN's videos. By far the best
Thanks once again for putting the comms in one place and making them easy to listen to
I do enjoy your reading and study of the story
'Proving your worth' by mowing down more of the same enemies, despite having mown down thousands upon thousands in the past.
Things are getting spicy and starting to make more and more sense
really hope the division and keener's rogues form an alliance to take down black tusk.
that doesn't seem to happen unless it's just DC who does it and would explain some things in hunted and compromised
That.. Can't really happen. Rogues, and agents, Can't work together without the agents being flagged as rogue.
Not to mention, the entire point of this is that the Agents are controlled by Cal and Natalya, basically. They know their every move.
If they worked with the Rogues, they'd also know the Rogues' every move.
Perhaps not just Black Tusk, but also Calvin McManus and his illegitimate ascension to presidency.
@@scootaloo9491This is where ANNA enters the picture. Or at least Theo’s version of ANNA. ANNA hasn’t tripped ISAC rouge status, since we took Keener’s watch. Currently, we’re talking to him via ANNA.
@biz0586 I'm pretty sure we're talking to him via Pre recorded messages. Not directly to him.
Not to mention, Anna is entirely separate from Isac, and so, doesn't trigger any flags.
Not to mention, she's only fully accessible if you get flagged as Rogue.
Feeling I get is that these trials are Keener getting us to do some dirty work for him via a retrieval of SHD tech from each of the factions that was either stolen from killed agents or given by Cal/Nat. Maybe...like Nat has that ring of Hunter captured Agent watches to link her to the SHD network, Keener is probably using us to get tech that he and Theo can use to link into Natalia's network. Something I'm wondering though - follower on Twitter reminded me about a comm that talks about installing a beacon atop the Statue of Liberty as a signal (or booster for a signal); wonder if that's a big reason why Keener and crew are in DC atm. Maybe to install a signal (or booster) on one of the tall monuments? Maybe The Washington Monument? But, why are they taking up space at Jefferson Memorial...there's gotta be better, more well hidden and secure locations in DC than something so open and public... Mean, yeah. Test us, try to recruit us...we'd be a huge asset to Keener's crew. But seems, and would make sense, that getting the Rogue Network up and stable would be priority #1. Turning one Grey Rogue red versus how many Rogues there maybe nationwide? We're (player agent) important. But the latter is invaluable. Cause taking down a madwoman and her army...is gonna take a madman and his own army.
Enemy of my Enemy and all that, though does make the saying in this context the reverse?
the trials of hercules bro
I think that at the end of this season we will be rogue that is why we will need a seasonal character anyway that’s what I think
Read my mind. I was wondering, after the announcement of seasonal characters, how exactly are they going to progress the story *without* our agents?
Last trial, we complete it successfully, cutscene begins with Keener or Kelso coming up to our agent. Some dialog along the lines of "ready to fight?" or something and we see our agent's ring go red, then fly off to Brooklyn.
Season 2 starts with Manny in our ear again and either it's an entirely new objective or, and this is me just being silly, we begin a new hunt: ourselves! Lol
Honestly buddy that's a solid theory. I mean feel like we're on the edge atm anyway. Potentially at the end of season two after were done the seasonal stuff we our main agent gets flagged as rogue and then we have a target on our head. And the only safe haven is to go to Brooklyn and connect up with kelso keener and theo. Well lose issac but gain Anna and then keener says to us 'welcome to the rogue network agent' 😅. Probably never happen but that'll be cool
Great vid! I think the trials that keener is leading us down is going to reveal something we havent thought of that, may just be a minor polt point we shrugged over 4-5 years ago. I am interested to see how/where things go after this season and the next. We, as a community, have ALOT to discuss and find out about for the game going forward. I am hoping that cooler heads prevail as we continue to get more information for everything.
Is Keener calling us Hercules? Isn't it just the next challenge?
The note from the first set of comms calls us Echo, which is pretty apt considering the Greek Mythology link
12 labors of Hercules
Wouldn’t it technically be Heracles or is it because Hercules is more mainstream?
@@acgearsandarms1343 actually a few ways to spell it and your not wrong. I’ve seen the name spelled Herakles as well. 🤷♂️
@@acgearsandarms1343 the Greek name is Ηρακλής pronounced Heracles (the H in front is silent)
I'd rather trust Keener than stay the course at this point, besides he has a more fun and sassy AI imho, and i'm all for it
I think it be really funny if Keener asked "you and what army?" And it's the entire Division 2 player base. In frame
One of the biggest weaknesses of the storyline part of the Division franchise, is they way they tell it through these comms. Most of the time I have no idea who's talking to who (unless it's Keener or Faye) and they are so disjointed I forget what's been said previously anyway. I rely on your videos to piece this together in a coherent form. Also, I can pause the video and search for who the heck is speaking.
Quit the game last season because I'm very disappointed with the revival... But a man's gotta know what happened to his buddy in Div1
Good video as always ngn!
Imagine having one of your rouges revive your brother in arms only for his killers to kill you and then wake up and realise that they killed him again lmao
If Keener calling us Hercules is true, it makes some ironic sense. Look at all missions and hunts we finished, all bloodshet that brought us to present point, it reminds mythical 12 Labours of Hercules, apparently imposible tasks. Maybe our codename should be Sisyphus?
Also still haunts me fate of Schaffer, will he wake up soon, what if he is also Keener's associates or just tool?
I kinda feel Atlas fits us better with the work we do to keep the world running. Without us all the settlements would have likely experienced the castle treatment or worse and any hope for a normal or not terrible world would be gone. It’s not too much of an exaggeration to say that we carry people’s world on our backs.
Never been so fast for this! Finally
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I missed the start of the season due my vaccation, so thanks for those first few seconds. I am loking forward for the further developtment, but somehow it feels like we will loose the white house
No compromises. Not even in the face of Armageddon.
Kelso gets once chance to explain herself. I don't care if she can prove Keener is the Second Coming, he dies.
On that we agree

I have been waiting for you to make a video since Echo began! I do have to say... has anyone noticed with all the Greek themes that the season patch is a horse? Does that make anyone else nervous?

In Greek mythology, Hercules was assigned Herculean tasks, like cleaning the Augean stables.

“Let’s have a chat about Seasons 2.0..” 😂😭
Where are these extra comms coming from? Are they pickups I missed from locations or did they relegate all comms to Descent?
I did a new week of descent mode where I got comm 53 where keener is talking with an agent named Hoskins
6:28 ok After doing research about targets, a part from obviusly being conneceted to greek mithology, i found that echo (ekho) Is a nymph Who had a beautifull voice Who Zeus loved so hers cursed her by making her voice Just an echo ( #justiceforecho lol), Hercules Is Hercules im sure i dont need to explain him, leto Is a titan and goddess of motherhood and childbirth and nyx is the goddess of the night. A part from the Hercules league trophy being a Lion which was One the 12 labours of Hercules all the others seem to be random.
I have seen many games taking their lore from irl ancient mythologys. Just like Fays Callsing Cassandra was: Cassandra or Kassandra in Greek mythology was a Trojan priestess dedicated to the god Apollo and fated by him to utter true prophecies but never to be believed. In modern usage her name is employed as a rhetorical device to indicate a person whose accurate prophecies, generally of impending disaster, are not believed.
Do you think the seasonal characters will be because our mains will have joined Keener and we’ll have to play subs for a bit? Thanks for the video!
I really want to hear NGNs take on season 2.0 and the new seasonal agents tho.
When the time comes Hopefully we have the choice with siding with keener or staying loyal To SHD
This is gonna be an awesome season🎉
How were you able to change the settings to use your sniper from 3rd person view from the Division 1?
He is using a C79 scope. Anything below an 8x Scope you can toggle to 3rd person view.
Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is doing the exact same fucking thing over and over again expecting sht to change. That. Is. Crazy.
Why do we hear anna speaking now not just isac?
Who was the person that Keener referenced when he said he learned that lesson already? Also, is Viper still alive? Am i remembering correctly thunk that she was target during a manhunt?
NGN have a lot to do to give us those 72 comms full Descent video because devs added 20 more (max was 52 now its 72)
I think the only 2 questions that we can truly ask at this point in the manhunt is what kind of Rogue network is Keener trying to build and how will Bardon Schaffer be the “key” whenever he wakes up? Will the Rogue network give us an advantage against the Hunters and the Black Tusk or is Keener just trying to build his Rogue cells back up again? The “key” was mentioned a lot last season in Kelso’s notes. Too many questions right now 🤔
Ditto
I’m just waiting to see what Keener knows is coming. He wouldn’t be going through all this trouble to recruit us if it wasn’t something even worse than Black Tusk. I’m just hella curious as to what could be that big of a threat
We’ll seeing how the Black Tusk is determined to take us down no matter who or what they have to sacrifice… when it comes down to it and if it affects both sides so much that even your “enemy “ is willing to work alongside you… it has to be THAT bad…
I really hope at the last part of the manhunt we don’t have to fight or kill keener
When you’re next video talking about Hercules
thanks NGN. now that ubisoft made me quit the game, at least i can keep up with the story trough you.
I agree. It's sad, but true. Thanks NGN.
I’m starting to wonder if Viper is still alive and is working with them still.
Hold on bros, Im a card carrying agent since division 1, Didnt we kill Aaron? What the HELL
He faked his death when we fought him in Liberty Island.
You must have missed quite a bit
@@dev1855 Yeah brother, but I do remember killing him, and shooting outside in his honor, because he was an agent after all.
Also what is this about multiple characters update ?
@rpd6874 the devs plans for seasons 2.0 is a seasonal characters thing where at the start of the season you get en extra character slot and play through the season from level 1 to 40 then at the end of the season all that xp and rewards transfer to your main character
Did anyone know what happened with old player character from first division? i have this mystery in my mind all time i play The Division 2, we have audio where characters tocks about him but no info what happened...😢
What is the best build for armor regeneration in pve?
Being tested by him even though we got him and his goons already? We should be testing him
So are we Echo, as ANNA keeps referring to us, or are we Hercules as Keener does at the end? And is it just me, or did ANNA feel almost a bit stilted in some of her comms this time around? Almost like words were being patched together rather than a fluid as some of the interactions that she had last season.
I figure Hercules because we're going through the trials/labours/tasks of Hercules. Although that does make Keener into King Eurystheus and not just Vanguard, as he was the one setting the tasks that Hercules had to perform. Also, perhaps, because we wear silly gear (a lion's mane?) and pick things up and put them down? (Maybe that's more analogous to the go fetch missions that we seem to spend half our time doing - or just straight up being murder hobos.)
I did find it interesting that Viper continues to play such an important role in the comms this season, especially given how minor a role she seemed to play during the Faye Lau manhunt itself. Obviously BT is EXTREMELY well informed about everything that happens in the White House, even if they don't know that information is being passed along to Keener et al almost as soon as it's received. You have to wonder who continued to pass on the information once Viper was taken down by us in our typical "shoot everything and don't give a crap about learning anything" role.
I'm surprised you didn't pick up on the timeline though. At the start of The Division 2 we're recalled to DC because ISAC is down. All of the main missions that we go on are part of working towards getting ISAC back up and running again, locally and elsewhere. This is obviously why the Warhounds aren't working. Nat, at some point between the events of The Division and TD2, engineered the takedown of ISAC as she was looking to decapitate the Division as an organization, install her puppet president, and take over the country. But she didn't know that taking down ISAC would take down DIAMOND, and BT obviously lost access to all their tech. By getting ISAC back up and running again and completing all the events through the destruction of the faction strongholds that initially spawned the BT invasion of DC and World Tier 1, we were effectively helping Nat get her own systems, and especially warhounds, drones, etc., back up and running which allowed her to be in a position to attack DC once we finished taking out the factions. So, just as we were helping Nat in a sense by rescuing Ellis, we were helping her much more comprehensively in restoring ISAC as that meant we were also restoring DIAMOND. If we'd never restored ISAC, BT wouldn't have any tech. They'd have warm bodies, but how useful would they be without anything else?
Anyway, I think you're right on the whole "this seems too clean", but we've guessed wrong on that one before. I completely agree that they're going to be leading up to the reveal of something big that happened sometime around the early part of us completing our missions in and around DC. The comms are moving fast though, as we've already advanced to the point where we attack Camp White Oak and try and capture Ellis. And that's doesn't happen until after BT roll into DC. But we can't go too much further forward or Viper will be dead. The three seasons leading up to "End of Watch" when we kill Faye Lau were Jupiter, Hornet, and Schaeffer. I'll put money on it being something about Mr Off Switch himself Bardon Schaeffer. Because that would be perfect to finally get him up and going again and potentially helping us leading into the NYC DLC in a couple of seasons.
You read my mind man, thanks for bringing us up to speed agent
I think the real threat is Cal McManus/Hunters/US Gov/Nat/Black Tusk... Rogue/SHD is two sides of the same coin.. Season 3 with Schaffer & rogues gave us clues about how Nat views rogues/shd agents.. as well as Season 4 with Faye Lau... Nat: Their not team players; Cal: They were never suppose to be. Cal maintains his power by having agents fight each other/ distract them from the actual threat or enemy.. I call it "The Enemy Within".
Damn I was expecting you to include the latest comm that was in Descent cause it's the only one that doesn't have Sokolova, The Ortizs and Cal in it.
Yeah, the fact that Melanie Hoskins who was the protagonist of Hearts on Fire audiobook is featured in that Descent comm can't be a coincidence l

frst question why can rouge division anget sill use division gaer if there rouge why that ai just dnt disable there gear number 2 dose your watch color really make you rouge who make that decision who's rouge or not 3rd question what if that ai we be hearing is gone rouge it self 4th question o remember seeing a video one of the hunters he said they work for the same guy who bossing division around so are tge hunters actually division there to keep us in line so in ending there some sus with the division leaders and maybe we been lied to and a red watch is not really rouge
1. A division agent was killed in the early days of the Green Poison outbreak because ISAC flagged her as Rogue after she broke into a pharmacy for medical supplies. The Rogue Protocol disabled her SHD tech and left her defenseless and she was killed by her assailants. Calvin McManus was outraged and demanded that Claire Ortiz revise the Rogue Protocol so that something like that couldn't happen again , with the side effect being that properly identified Rogue Agents could still use their tech.
2. ISAC flags agents as Rogue when they violate the Division's operation parameters. The Division also has an internal oversight committee, so presumably they, the President, or another official the President put in charge of the Division could also assign or rescind Rogue status.
3. ANNA is the original AI that was developed by Claire Otriz for the Division program but her brother Alex decided that they should go with a dumbed down version instead, which became ISAC. Theo Parnell was able to get access to ANNA through an unavoidable design flaw since ISAC and ANNA are based off of the same system and built the Rogue Network based on her. So while ANNA isn't a "rogue AI" she is the AI of Keener's Rogue Network.
4. Hunter's are members of a black ops created by Calvin McManus as an insurance policy to deal with rogue agents. After of Year 5 Season 2, we learned that many of the Hunters are also Division Agents and that they view other agents not serving the goals and interests of McManus as traitors.
As of last season, we learned that many Rogue Agents actually went rogue because they believed that McManus and Natalya Sokolova had compromised the Division, those being Aaron Keener, Theo Parnell, Brigitte Douglas (aka Viper), Faye Lau, and Alani Kelso. While some Rogues definitely went off the deep end (Jupiter, Hornet, Vivian Conley, etc.), it seems not all of them have completely abandoned the cause and Keener has even managed to get an orange watch again.
Being "rogue" doesn't really mean anything anymore, what matters is what you're fighting for.
@grantgooch5834 you did a gd job with your reply it's going to be interesting to see what ubisoft do because the division needs some rework

Killing Keener in Warlords and bringing him back is a poor choice and lacks imagination. Between poor story choices, ignoring the players, devs who can’t or don’t play this game and lack of new meaningful content, Ubisoft is destroying this franchise.
This game is not set up to be seasonal. It’s taken me years to collect the weapons, gear and mods necessary to make the builds I have. Time, effort and resources I spent to max my expertise will be for nothing? Hard pass on season 2.0. This story is beyond silly. All the people you've eliminated are not dead and the guy you've defeated is making sure you're good enough? Bad writing.
Just two have returned from the dead
@@KiwiSpartan01 Lau, Keener, Parnell and Hornet up till now. Who knows who they'll ressurect next.
@RevanBartus but Lau has only died once
Pathetic...

This storyline went off the rails
Went off its normal rails as soon as Hornet came back. D1 has aperfect story but it's an unextendable story. There's no way to continue that one.
I'll be very happy if we end the whole Black Tusk storyline by the end of D2
