Cool. Just what I needed to know: 73mm DUB BB is no spacers on the BB itself, but a 4.5mm one on the crank axle itself on the drive side. This vid clearly earns a thumbs up. 👍
I spent the entire day researching BB, castes and cranks and was going crazy trying to find bottom bracket for 68, then i found this video and stopped freaking out and got furiously angry with myself :D. Excellent video thank you mate!
Here the same. Half the day already lost, it is very frustrating. Shimano should include a simple manual on paper about those spacers, but they just don't.
Just fitted an Uber Bike BB 73mm. Really helpful tutorial, super easy to follow. I had replaced the shimano BB and never noted the spacer requirements. Thanks again.
So the spacers are just to make the BB 73mm wide. I guess my bike got some work done at the factory and they made the BB 72mm~ they had one spacer from the factory so I just added one spacer. Should be good. Thanks man
Thanks for clearing this up! I have a 73mm frame. But I'm going to use 1 spacer on each side of the BBT so in future I can easily remove the cups. Otherwise its just aluminum on aluminum tight, which after struggling with my old bottom bracket is a motherFer to get off lol.
I have 73 mm, says i need 4.5 but on the outside right side...i think...if i'm reading the sram dub chart correctly, so I'd install without spacers and add the 4.5 to the right side before i install the crank arms right?
What makes no sense to me, is that on the box the bb comes in, is a check to show what the bb is compatible with. The mt-800 shows that it is only compatible with bsa 73mm. What then, is the purpose of the spacers? It seems that they're making a bb that's only compatible with a certain type of bb shell, why not stick with that, and have a single bb for every type of shell? Seems that it would make it much simpler
Helpful video. My old bike crankset had a 52 mm chainline. Can I use my old crankset for bike with a 55mm chainline if I add 3mm spacer on the crank side
I could not clearly understand. I have a chain guide mounted on 73 mm shell. Do I need one spacer or none? My understanding is one spacer on the chain side, is that right. Thanks in advance.
If you used the DUB on a 73mm and set it up like the boost back on bike with a 148mm rear with 27.5x3" tires would that throw the throw the chainline too far off? looking to gain a little bit of space between the tire and chain.
I've put 3 spacers on the drive side but still my crank arm is close to the chain stay. What bottom bracket should I use? I am currently using a Chinese bb that came with my ixf crankset.
hey man, i dont know, but i am here for that same issue. i just put a grx crank into a fsa omega bb and there is a bit of side play. i think i need to put a hollowtech bb in with correct # of spacers.
Would you say that Sram rival (11 speed single ring crank) is a road or mtb gxp bottom bracket. I put two spacers either side of my gxp bb like it says but when i tighten it up the cranks struggle to spin? The frame is 68mm
What if you installed a shimano hollowtech II BSA bottom bracket on a 73 mm shell without the per shimano recommended driveside spacer? I had no idea I needed to install the spacer, and everything seems to work fine, but i'm wondering what the function is of that 2.5 mm driveside spacer, or why it is needed? I'm using a shimano SLX M7000 1x11 crank, so no front derailleur or anything like that.
I believe it has something to do with chainline and making sure your derailleur gets to shift as smoothly as possible, especially on the highest gears. I used to have bad shifting performance on my 3 highest gears but when I added another spacer which abides by this guide video, the issue went away.
Hi, I just bought a Sensah/RX groupset. Somitd basically DUB. 68mm BB, added a spacer each side. Added the other spacer over the axle. When tightening up, not even close to 50nm, the cranks become quite difficult to spin. They don't spin freely at all. Do you have any recommendations? I also have a wavy washer I've installed on the left side.
Nice video. I was wondering if I can use The BB-Mt800 bottom bracket with out using the spacers. I currently have shimano xt m8000 11s drivetrain. My setup work good but I notice my chain line was a little off towards the 9-10 & 11 cogs. If I go to this cogs, If I back pedal it jump the chain…
I'm installing the XTR BB93 bottom bracket with an 11 speed 1x setup on my Santa Cruz Nomad 1 Carbon and having the same issue. It has a 73mm BB shell. The shop where I bought the bottom bracket said to use a single spacer on the drive side as well. I was about to take off the single spacer on the drive side and see if it shifts more smoothly through the whole range of the cassette. Totally understand it's not "correct" but if it cleans up the shifting, maybe it's the right thing to do. Could be something with the frame being made when everything was 10 speed, or that it's full suspension?

Thats what the manual says too. But why does it come with only a 2.5 & 10mm spacer. Think 2.5 should be enough?
The 2,5 are the inner spacers, the 4,5 a outer spacer that fits the crank arm

I know how you feel!

Thanks for the info. This is the first video that actually makes sense.

Tack!
Can't thank you enough! Cristal clear explanation ❤
Thank God for your videos for us DYIers. Cheers!
Tops .. got a new one on order .. 👍
This was a saver, that was exactly my question. Cheers mate!
Great video, I never understood the Dub BB spacers - I do now!
excelente explicación, desgraciadamente no hay videos en español que lo expliquen tan sencillamente y excelentemente, felicidades por su video

excellent work!
Awesome thanks for this! I really wasn't sure! Its work noting the new MT801 BB are a different fitting, the splines have changed!

Fantastic - thanks!!
Thank you!
Great video thank you
thank you🙏
Why not putting the spacer on the non drive side and keep chain line on the drive side?
Helpful video. My old bike crankset had a 52 mm chainline. Can I use my old crankset for bike with a 55mm chainline if I add 3mm spacer on the crank side
I could not clearly understand. I have a chain guide mounted on 73 mm shell. Do I need one spacer or none? My understanding is one spacer on the chain side, is that right. Thanks in advance.
mines a 68mm,with a bad bb,so for 68mm i would need 2 x 2.5mm spacers and a 4.5mm spacer for the crank? would that be right?
thank you

I have the same question, did you ever find out?
I've put 3 spacers on the drive side but still my crank arm is close to the chain stay. What bottom bracket should I use? I am currently using a Chinese bb that came with my ixf crankset.
Thanks. Do you need spacers on hybrid bike BBs or road bike BBs? Are spacers only for MTB BBs?
No spacers on road or hybrid bikes using road 68mm BB’s!
Hi there.. I have a question.
Can I use a Dura Ace road BB on a MTB ?
No!
is it normal to have the padel-to-frame distance non-symmetrical?
I have xc which I intend to convert it to a 3x, so I should remove one of the spacer am I right?
thx
Does putting the wrong number of spacers cause a rough feel pedaling on the highest gear?
hey man, i dont know, but i am here for that same issue. i just put a grx crank into a fsa omega bb and there is a bit of side play. i think i need to put a hollowtech bb in with correct # of spacers.
Can I use a 68mm BB in a 73mm frame shell?
Read your question again Einstein. Lol
Would you say that Sram rival (11 speed single ring crank) is a road or mtb gxp bottom bracket. I put two spacers either side of my gxp bb like it says but when i tighten it up the cranks struggle to spin? The frame is 68mm
Should be a road gxp bb!
How many spacers do I need on bb30a shell with Sram red 22 cranks with integrated spider? 🤔
Yes Mtb isn’t dead! You are good and nice video!
I subscribed to you😃 I do ride as well.
What if I have a bb30 83mm shell and want to fit a dub crank??
Did you ever find out the answer to this mate?
You cant
@@emanuelv19 actually you can. I spoke to Sram in the end and they advised what was needed to get the right fitment for the spec demo 8

I agree with what JP said. Plus, if your chainring(s) have enough clearance from the chain stay AND your rear wheel, then you're fine.
Hi,
I just bought a Sensah/RX groupset. Somitd basically DUB.
68mm BB, added a spacer each side. Added the other spacer over the axle. When tightening up, not even close to 50nm, the cranks become quite difficult to spin. They don't spin freely at all.

Remiove the spacer on the crank
You don't explain why. It's not obvious to me why you used the same combo of spacers on both the 68 and 83 mm shells.
Is it safe to put all 3 spacer on the NDS to get my desired chainline?
same question my mechanic in the bikeshop put all the spacer all on the left side
@@ancestralx2770 its my set up for 4months now and no problem so far.
@@casuallycycling9339 I see I guess its not an issue at all 😊
@@ancestralx2770 yeah we’ll see on year 1, if it still holds up.
I t will cause noise from your cranks and pedals as the spacers will prevent the crank arm tightening properly to the spindle/ axle.
You will require the correct amount of spacers otherwise the crankset won’t be spaced correctly through the BB.
