Always start with left side cup like suggested by SRAM. Why? Cause inner tube slides for sealing when the right side cup comes with the clicked in inner tube. Some high performane grease applied thoroughly before helps to keep everything inside the BB clean and tight...
I have a creak in my dub bsa axle, I cleaned and greased, I tested bearings without cranks but it doesn't sound very smooth. It only sounds when I use a lot of force with the cranks like crack crack with each revolution. Sram GX
Hello. I have exact same bottom bracket on my mtb. I have a few questions and I hope you could help me. The bottom bracket after a year or so started to have a little play no matter how hard I tight it. So I was wondering do you know can I maybe change ONLY the bearings inside this BB and the second question is if I can do you know maybe inner and outter diameter of those bearings. cheers
Unfortunately I've never tried to change the bearings since it is always easier and cheaper for me to just buy a new bottom bracket when it goes bad. I'm sure it can probably be done though, but I don't know the dimensions... Good luck though and hope you figure it out!
Very nicely done, my creaky bottom bracket has been plaguing me for the longest time until i discovered the teflon tape trick so thanks a lot for the demonstration as i was wondering how much i should use and exactly how to do it, now i dont have to experiment as you've done it for me, rock on!!!
A nice video shows the trick of applying tape on threads. I learned it and will do it on my new bike frame. Good job! And I guess you play guitar, because you have longer nails on your right hand and short ones on the left. 😄😄😄
Anyone can install BB but Very few people and mechanics know the secret understandings. Certainly you are one of them. I was really happy to see you not to go towards srams way of tightening those cups with 50nm torque! That was ridiculously high for a external cup BB! Sram should re evaluate their methodology. Old school Square tapered BB may be needed a bit more torque but going at this level is simply torturing your frame! Where Aluminium with excessive torque is the volatile mixture for a disastrous outcome. Shimano even provide plastic adapter for regular hollowtec 2 BB wrench as they've already estimated the torque value for that cup should be so low that even a plastic material would be sufficient enough to bear that low level torque.
Yes! I totally agree! Never had a bb come loose even though I don’t crank it tight! Titanium is one thing, but if you were to do that in an aluminum frame, it would definitely be a disaster LOL
@Mary neff Yes! The direction of the arrows is the direction that they turn to thread in. You want the tape wound in the opposite direction do that when you thread it in, the tape doesn't come loose.
Teflon tape is for stopping leaks from threads. You use anti sieze for metal on metal threads, some people use grease but I only use grease on bearings and moving metal on metal parts. It's easier to cross thread when you put Teflon tape on, depending on how much you put on.
Very informative and good info on cross threading. I’ll be using the plumber’s tape trick too!
Thanks! Yah it works very well!
bro, this was amazing tutorial. Thank you
Yes, very satisfying feeling.

I also noticed that SRAM always installs the left side first, thanks for the tip.
That frame🤤
I’ll be selling them soon! Working on some beautiful full suspension frames right now as well!

Thanks for the teflon-tape tip!
Awesome info! So with this method, there's no need to torque it all the way? Also, would lithium grease be ok for this? Cheers!
Yah I find that about 20nm is just fine, definitely don’t need to go all the way to 50 haha. And yah lithium grease should work fine!

Glad this helps! yah since the teflon tape i have never had a problem with creaking
Must be a guitar player. Nice video. Thanks.
Yep haha finally someone found out lol. Glad you liked the video!
I thought you smoked joints and grew the thumb and fingernail for Roach clips lol
Must be a weirdo

I was thinking drugs, but guitar sounds much more likely 🤣

On some dub BB its marked 35-50nm and I tightened to 35nm and no problem. PTFE trick its godsend for creek.
Sram is a manufacturer, they have top engineers. I'm sure they know what they're doing lol
Aren’t you supposed to use one spacer when you’re bottom bracket is 73mm?and use all the spacers when it’s 68mm?
Really depends on the width of the cranks, that'll be the factor for how many spacers to use
Geared maybe. SS on a boost frame, no.
... when your* (you're = you are) bb is 73 mm* and use all spacers when it's 68 mm?
Is this same size or compatible to shimano SM bb52, hollowtech 2?
To be honest i'm not 100% sure on that, look up the thread pitch of each and if they are the same than it is
Could you put any size sprocket on the cranks you use on this BB?
Yes I believe it is changeable
Most common is a 30-34 tooth
@@BenCarano Can you go down to 28 or 26?
@@hulkster4374 probably as long as it’s not too low because if you go lower than 20 the derailleur might have trouble
Never heard of teflon tape on the threads
Yah! I was a great trick I learned that has worked out so well for me! Never had a problem with creaking since, and it goes in pretty smooth

What width is your frame
If I'm understanding you correctly, the bottom bracket width on this frame is 73mm
@@BenCarano thank you I have recently got a dub bb and can’t find anything that tells me what’s spacers to use
The shell goes inside also??? Oooops😂
Yes lol, it will probably be fine the way you have it, but yes the shell goes in to help keep dirt and water out!
With all due respect that was miles away from a 50nm turn. Guess the torque spec is just for jollies from the factory
Yah it was closer to 30, I just don’t like going as tight and with the tape I’ve never had a problem with one coming loose
You only taking dubs!
😂
At least it is not Chevrolet grease.😁
😂
@@BenCarano Thank you for the video. Very helpful for upgrading my BB.
Hey man do you think this bb will work on a fixed gear? Im trying to build my dream bike and its a bsa compatible frame
Definitely! just use the right combination of spacers and whatever bottom bracket you go with should work!
