THIS is a perfect example of why I am a fan of yours.
    Fearless. Smart.
I was thinking about this issue (I have same product)....but I figured I'd lose the screws, lose the buttons...and fry something with my big soldering iron, lol

I bet it's using PWM to control the brightness of those leds, so those traces most likely go directly to the processor. It's the cheapest option to dim something... Not much can be done about it... I would have probably done the same - just added a switch in series and called it done 👍

      That would make sense.
Too bad it wasn't as simple as I had hoped.
Oh well. The switch is certainly better than covering the display with tape every night!

Do you know were the temperature sensor is located on this controller. The old ones had a little sensor inside, but on this one I can't find it. Thanks.

That's great to know. 👍 I'm interested in how you installed your diesel heater and fuel tank. I own a 2001 chevy express 2500 5.7 extended cargo van. Been debating on where to install the heater fuel tank and my batteries. My original thought was installing my 2 batteries behind my drivers seat and having my heater infront of the passenger rear wheel and mounting the heater sideways and having the air intake go through the wall and the exhaust out the floor, but doing that would probably use up more space. Curious on your thoughts, you van seems really well thought out. My van is basically just a shell, my bed frame and mattress are in and my layout I want it to be very similar to yours just mechanical placement is were I'm struggling. Your videos are so well done.

      Thanks for the comment!
**For the diesel fuel tank, I really didn’t want it outside of the van (fear of the diesel freezing) but I also didn’t want the risk of diesel leaking inside the van.
I opted for this setup and I’m really glad I did.

**For batteries - I overestimated how much I would need access to them and mounted them in a very accessible spot (in the cabinet that overhangs my sliding door entry area).
I wish I would have mounted them under the bed and saved that cabinet space for actual storage.
**For the diesel heater - The 2003+ vans have a perfectly flat portion of floor in the very back drivers' side which is where I opted to mount mine. (Not positive on the 96-02 vans!)
You should REALLY keep your intake and exhaust pipe connections on the OUTSIDE of the van in case of any leaks at those connections.
For the interior heat circulation, the heater pulls cold air off the vans floor in the very back corner of the van. The heat output is ducted towards the center of the van (blowing forwards).
Check out this portion of the van tour in regard to the diesel heater!

Surprising how bright displays are! I use just the display on my cellphone in the morning to light my way until I get out of the bedroom and switch on the other lights so as to not wake my partner.

Our smoke alarms have a constant dim green LED. But at night the bedroom is completely lit by it! Drives us crazy!

not your original idea for a solution but still great information to put out there for people!
